Age: 89

Kathryn J. Wood, 89, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Wilson, who died in 1962. She is survived by her second husband, Fred Wood of Wilmington.

Mrs. Wood was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Sabina, daughter of the late Carey and Pearl Lucas Arehart. She graduated in 1932 from Sabina High School.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Shirley McVey of Wilmington; a son, Bobby (Janet) Wilson of Nelsonville; a stepson, Thomas (Paula) Wood of Aiken, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Brenda Wood of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Aebischer of Concord, N.H.

In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Herbert and Arthur Arehart.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. today at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Sabina Cemetery.

Billy Ray Brown
Died: Monday, June 09, 2003
Age: 41

Billy Ray Brown, 41, of Sabina, died Monday (June 9, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl L. Newland Brown. They were married July 4, 1986.

Mr. Brown was born Oct. 31, 1961, in Franklin County, son of David L. and Loretta Smith Brown of Washington Court House. He was employed by Kautex-Textron. He attended Miami Trace High School and Laurel Oaks Vocational School.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three daughters, Billiejo Ann (Mike) Amos of Columbus, Brandy Kay Brown of San Francisco, Calif., and Alisha Marie Brown of Sabina; two sons, Kyle David and Dustin Ray Brown of Sabina; two grandchildren, Bradley Austin and Alex Michael Amos; five sisters, Jennifer (Alan) Bailey of Washington Court House, Angela (Chuck) Harnar of Washington Court House, Nikki Brown of Washington Court House, Wanda (Jeff) Harlan of Clarksburg and Mary Ann (Mike) Wood of Mt. Sterling; three brothers, David (Kim) Brown II of Washington Court House, Eric (Lori) Brown of Washington Court House and Donald Miller of Washington Court House; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Edna Smith and Samuel and Zelma Brown; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald Ray and Emma Newland.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in White Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Raymond Eugene Bills
Died: Sunday, June 08, 2003
Age: 63

Raymond Eugene Bills, 63, of Washington Court House, died 2:40 p.m. Sunday (June 8, 2003) at his residence. He had been ill 18 months. His wife, Joan Peters Bills, survives.

Mr. Bills was born Sept. 27, 1939, in Brown County, son of Audrey Swearingen Bills of Wilmington and the late John Bills. He lived most of his life in Washington Court House. He was a truck driver for R&L Carriers for 22 years before his retirement in 2001.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Michael (Diane) Bills; three grandchildren, Danielle, Christopher and William Bills, all of Washington Court House; four brothers, Robert (Wanda) Bills of Wilmington, John Jr. (Dora) Bills of Wilmington, Russell (Phyllis) Bills of Blanchester, and Roger (Connie) Bills of Allentown, Pa.; a sister, Helen (John) Stevens of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the KIRKPATRICK FUNERAL HOME, Washington Court House, with burial in Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Fayette County, P.O. Box 849, Washington Court House 43160.

Clarence Warren Swayne
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 86

Clarence Warren Swayne, 86, died Saturday (June 7, 2003) at Adams County Hospital. His wife, Lola Catherine Wallace Swayne, survives. They were married Oct. 7, 1936.

Mr. Swayne was born Aug. 27, 1916, at Smokey Corner, near Locust Grove, son of the late Homer Burton and Melissa Hilderbran Swayne. He worked as a Greyhound bus driver and as a guard at Westinghouse in Columbus. A member of the Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church of Columbus, he also was a member of Blue Masonic Lodge of Manchester for more than 50 years. He was a member of Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus, and Nathaniel Massie 548 Order of Eastern Star of Manchester.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jo (Richard) Rolfe of Sabina and Judy Lewis of Manchester; a brother, Omer Cleston (Edith) Swayne of McDermitt; four grandsons, Scott Douglas (Terri) Lewis of Batesville, Ind., Michael (Jacque) Coady of Canton, N.C., Mark (Lori) Lewis of Manchester and Matthew (Bridget) Coady of Crestwood, Ky.; two step-grandsons, Phillip (Karen) Rolfe of Sabina and John (Anita) Rolfe of Sabina; five great-granddaughters, Patricia, Angela, Pamela and Satrista Lewis, and Mackenzie Coady; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Chris (Terrill) Rolfe, Robyn (Tom) Shultheis, Jeremy (Melissa) Rolfe, John (Stacy) Rolfe and Jennifer Rolfe; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Glen, Ira, Gene, Forrest and Berlin Swayne; two sisters, Bertha and Ruth Swayne; a son-in-law, John Lewis; and a grandson, Timothy Lewis.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the WALLACE-THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, Peebles, Marlyn Davis officiating, with burial in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Paul E. Rainey
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 54

Paul E. Rainey, 54, of Wilmington, died early Saturday (June 7, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife, Kimberlin Kauffman Rainey of Wilmington, survives.

Mr. Rainey was born Sept. 10, 1948, in Grafton, W.Va., son of Van E. Estep and Kathleen Rainey. He was a member of American Legion Post 49.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rodney (Jenny) Allen of Blanchester; a granddaughter; his stepfather and mother, Van and Kathleen Estep of Wilmington; six halfbrothers, Robert Estep of St. Louis, Mo., Gary Estep of Sabina, Carl Estep of Wilmington, Rickey Estep of Wilmington, Steve Estep of Wilmington and Jeff Estep of Wilmington; a halfsister, Karen Johnson of Wilmington; an aunt, Regina “Jean” (Ben) Denkenberger of Wilmington; an uncle, Carl (Betty) Guzzi of Wilmington; special friends, Lawrence and Carol Krabacher of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Milford and Bertha Rainey; an aunt, “Pat” Eleanor Ball; and a stepbrother, Larry Estep.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Gary Huffman officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 49. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ishmiel Farmer
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 64

Ishmiel Farmer, 64, of Wilmington, died Saturday (June 7, 2003) at his home following a short illness. He is survived by his first wife and companion, Cora Oletski of Wilmington.

Mr. Farmer was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Lee County, Ky., son of the late Sidney G. and Lillie Mae Conley Farmer. He lived most of his life in Richmond until he moved to Wilmington three years ago. He had retired from Swayne Robinson. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and Moose Lodge 167.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rocky Farmer of New Paris and Tim Farmer of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Lora Plumley of Richmond and Connie Steward of Wilmington; four stepsons; two stepdaughters, 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Palmer Farmer of Clay City, Ky., Bud Farmer of Greens Fork, Ind., and John Farmer of Richmond, Ind.; three sisters, Maggie Franklin and Juanita Harper of Richmond, Ind., and Jeanette Huff of Jackson, Mich.; special friends, Kenny and Brenda Farmer of Richmond, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Earl, Grant and Gene Farmer; and three sisters, Ann Denton, Letha Morris and Josephine.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. (Indiana time) Thursday at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home, 222 N. 10th St., Richmond, Ind., the Rev. Michael Harper officiating, with burial in Greens Fork South Cemetery, Greens Fork, Ind. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. (Indiana time) Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, 45420.

Maurice "Maury" P. Daniels
Died: Friday, June 06, 2003
Age: 84

Maurice P. “Maury” Daniels, 84, of Wilmington, died 7:15 p.m. Friday (June 6, 2003) at the Clinton Memorial Hospital emergency room. He had been a resident of Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence for three-and-a-half years, and had been seriously ill for over four years. His wife, Ruby Irvine Daniels, survives. They were married for 59 years.

Mr. Daniels was born June 30, 1918, in Marion, son of the late Arthur and Bertie Swisher Daniels. He was retired from General Telephone after 40 years service, including as district plant supervisor. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the Philippines, New Guineau and Japan as a corporal in the 213th Military Police. He was a 1936 graduate of Marion Harding High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dan (Chrissy) Daniels of Washington Court House; two daughters, Lee Ann (Ted) Denman of Edgewood, Ky. and Linda (Mel) Gordy of Homosassa, Fla.; a sister, Garnet Hochstetter of Marion; four grandchildren, Kelsey Daniels, Trevor Daniels, Misty (Jamie) Lawrence and Kathy Denman; a great-grandchild, Mason Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Daniels.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Pastor Harv Stricklin officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1580 King Ave., Columbus 43212.

Sadie Mildred Lilley Flora
Died: Wednesday, June 04, 2003
Age: 92

Sadie Mildred Lilley Flora, 92, of Morrow, died Wednesday (June 4, 2003). Her husband, Gaylord Flora, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Flora was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Crittendon, Ky., daughter of the late James and Anna Lipscom Lilley. She was a 1929 graduate of Morrow High School. She was a dedicated wife and parent.

She is survived by a son, Richard Flora of Blanchester; two daughters, Joyce Flora of Rehobah, Del. and Cynthia (Bob) Verville of Mason; a brother, Ira Lilley of Florida; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Ann Denehy and Deloris O’Dell; and three brothers, Leslie, Randall and Melvin Lilley.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the VALE-HOSKINS FUNERAL HOME, Morrow, with interment in Morrow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati.
