Paul Anthony Summers
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 37

Paul Anthony Summers, 37, of Jamestown, died Tuesday night (Jan. 28, 2003) at Hospice of Dayton. He is survived by his wife, Sherri Hamilton Summers.

Mr. Summers was born Sept. 12, 1965, in Wilmington, son of Paul R. (Laura) Summers of Wilmington and Peggy Rudduck (Michael) Faul of Jamestown. He graduated from Greeneview High School. He was a member of electrical union Local 82 of Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Brandi Elizabeth, at home; two sons, Michael Anthony and Paul Dylan, at home; his maternal grandparents, Bud and Helen Rudduck of Sabina; his paternal grandmother, Dora Summers of Wilmington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roger and Jackie Hamilton of Jamestown; three brothers, Michael Joseph Faul of Springboro, Randy Faul of Jamestown and Jeff Summers of Cincinnati; two sisters, Nikki Brown and Jodi Howard, both of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul S. Summers.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown, with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Betty Jane Kepler
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 70

Betty Jane Kepler, 70, of Greenfield, died early Tuesday morning (Jan. 28, 2003) at the home of her twin brother, Bobby D. Kepler.

She was born Oct. 22, 1932, in Fayette County, daughter of the late Emmett C. and Anna K. Kilworth Kepler. She was a housekeeper for many different families for numerous years and also mowed lawns for area residents. She graduated from McClain High School. She attended the Pure Word Mission Church in Hillsboro.

She is survived by three brothers, Eugene Kepler of Grove City, Bobby D. Kepler of Greenfield and Emmett Kepler Jr. of Las Cruces, N.M.; three nieces and a nephew, which she helped raise, Anna Jane Robinett of Greenfield, Roberta Kay Washburn of Greenfield, Pamela Sue Cook of Thomson, Ga., and Robert Eugene Kepler of Greenfield; a niece, Debra Miller of Greenfield; five nephews, Eugene Kepler Jr. of Sabina, Jon Kepler of Grove City, Emmett Kepler Jr. of Las Cruces, N.M., Mike Kepler of Las Cruces, N.M., and Jason Kepler of Las Cruces, N.M.; other nieces and nephews in Las Cruces, N.M.; two great-nieces, Sunni Jane Robinett of Greenfield and Chelsie Washburn of Greenfield; and two great-nephews, Jeremy and Johnny Washburn of Greenfield.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at MURRAY-FETTRO FUNERAL HOME, 380 Jefferson St., Greenfield, the Rev. Robert Linter officiating, with burial in Walnut Creek Cemetery, Fayette County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jean Benham French
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 87

Jean Benham French, 87, of 1122 Farmington lane, Washington Court House, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, died 7 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell C. French, who died Oct. 22, 1989. They were married Oct. 23, 1937.

Mrs. French was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Lynchburg, son of the late John and Bessie Lou Murphy Benham. She and her husband were owners of Murphy Benham Hardware in Wilmington and Triduro Supply Company in Washington Court House. She was a member of the Snow Hill Country Club, Washington Country Club, Fayette County Humane Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Conversation Club. For many years, she was involved with the Clinton County Mental Health Board. She also was active in several bridge clubs in Wilmington and Washington Court House. She was a member of the Wilmington Friends Meeting. She graduated in 1933 from Wilmington High School. She attended Wilmington College, where she was a member of the Delta Omega Theta Sorority. She graduated in 1937 from the Western College for Women.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (James) Ward of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, Douglas (Dana) Ward of Columbus, Matthew (Dawn) Ward of Washington Court House, David Ward of Columbus and Scott French of Ashland, Ky.; a great-grandchild, Katherine Benham Ward; a nephew, Dr. Charles (Helen) Claibourne; two great-nephews, David Claibourne and Mark Claibourne; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John "Jack" French, and two grandchildren, Robert French and James Ward.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wilmington Friends Meeting, 66 N. Mulberry St., Wilmington, Larry Barker and Father Jan Sullivan officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, 43017; Capital Improvement Fund of Sugar Grove Cemetery, 297 W. Truesdell St., Wilmington, 45177; or Fayette County Humane Society, 113 1/2 S. Main St., Washington Court House, 43160. Arrangements are under the direction of REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington.

Janet Loise Smithson
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 74

Janet Louise Smithson, 74, of 839 Cherry St., Blanchester, died 12:45 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at Blanchester Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Smithson, who died May 9, 1977. They were married Sept. 12, 1944.

Mrs. Smithson was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Franklin, daughter of the late Roger and Alice Longacre Dunham. She was a former maid and eventually a receptionist at the General Denver Hotel. She also worked several years as a receptionist for Dr. Kraeling in Clarksville. She was a member of the Villars Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, James R. (Sandra) Smithson of Arkansas and Charles J. Smithson of Arkansas; five daughters, Patt (Jeff) Clark of Blanchester, Marilyn Carnell of Blanchester, Peggy (Fred) Cobb of Kentucky, Jacki Smithson of Wilmington and Phyllis (Dennis) Price of Clarksville; two brothers, Jerry (Doris) Dunham of Hillsboro and Jack (Cheryl) Dunham of Hillsboro; three sisters, Judy Dunham of Tennessee, Susan Jane Rust of Michigan and Barbara Joe Russell of Canton 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Carnell, and a brother, Jimmy Dunham.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Pastor John Foster officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Margene C. Vance
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 91

Margene C. Vance, 91, of Wilmington, died 2:45 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh C. Vance, who died Jan. 5, 1980. They were married June 18, 1931.

Mrs. Vance was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Highland County, daughter of the late Ira and Nannie Wilkin Cadwallader. She had been a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital and a member of the Lane Community Club, the Sunflower Sewing Band and the Clinton Memorial Hospital Guild. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Wilmington and the Mary Group. She had been a resident of Clinton County for 70 years. She was a loving mother and a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, William C. (Janet Snell) Vance of Wilmington and David C. Vance of Wilmington; a daughter, Nanetta V. (Jim) Bradley of Morrow; a brother, Hugh Cadwallader of Lynchburg; two sisters, Faye Faris of Wilmington and Nina Dunn of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren, Hugh W. (Jo Ellen) Vance of Wilmington, Jon Gale (Cheryl) Vance of Fortville, Ind., Ron Dale Vance of Cincinnati, Ray Alan (Patty) Vance of Richmond, Ind., Amy S. (John) Luttrell of Sabina, James W. (Tina) Bradley of Mason, Mary (Mike) Damron of Rochester Hills, Mich., Joe W. (Shawn) Bradley of Clarksville, Jeanetta Lynn (Mike) Cordy of Wilmington and David Mark (Elizabeth) Vance of Wilmington; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Margene Vance; four brothers, Windsor Cadwallader, Roy Cadwallader, Doyle Cadwallader and Dale Cadwallader; and two sisters, Ruth Dolphin and Mazelle Bloom.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 120 Columbus St., Wilmington, the Rev. Donald K. Mertz officiating, with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clinton County, 61 E. Leora Stratton
Died: Wednesday, March 12, 2003
Age: 88

Leora Stratton, 88, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) at the Kettering Area Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Stratton, who died in 1981.

Mrs. Stratton was born July 7, 1914, in Belfast, daughter of the late James Edward and Mae Hopkins Williamson. she was baptized in the Hillsboro Church of Christ and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge 157, Wilmington.

She is survived by four children, Chester "Chet" (Sue) Stratton of Springfield, Adrion (Myrtice) Stratton of Salt Springs, Fla., Darrell Stratton of Wilmington and Janet (Jack) Bunch of Ft. McCoy, Fla.; two brothers, Leland Williamson of Cincinnati and Thomas Robert Williamson of Wilmington; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Butler; a great-grandson, Toby Wilson; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Sunday at the TURNER & SON FUNERAL HOME, 602 N. High St., Hillsboro, Pastor Michael Wilson officiating, with burial in the Dunn's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rebecca Lodge services held at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Rebecca Lodge 157, in care of Ruth Ann Brandenburg, 4924 SR 72 North, Sabina, 45169.

Ruth L. Carver
Died: Wednesday, March 12, 2003
Age: 87

Ruth L. Carver, 87, of Washington Court House, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) at Auburn Manor, Washington Court House.

She was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Clinton county, daughter of the late George and Rosie Bauer Compton. She retired as a supervisor for the children's home in Hamilton. She was a member of the South Side Church of Christ in Washington Court House. She graduated in 1934 from the Wayne Township High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (LeRoy) Fooce of Washington Court House; a son, Roger (Debbie) Carver of Murray, Utah; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hook of Wilmington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Floyd, Everett and Harold Compton; and a sister, Alma Bentley.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Calvin W. Keith
Died: Monday, March 10, 2003
Age: 73

Calvin W. Keith, 73, of Wilmington, died 11:40 a.m. Thursday (March 6, 2003) at his residence following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois D. Randolph Keith. They were married Feb. 2, 1957, in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

Mr. Keith was born June 20, 1929, in Kentucky, daughter of the late Elbert and Leatha Slaven Keith. He retired as a diesel mechanic from Lyndons of Middletown. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the 101st Airborne Rangers Unit. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steve (Joy) Keith of Wilmington; three daughters, Darlene (Ron) Wilkin of Grove City, Dorothy (Bob) Moore of Wilmington and Janice Keith (special friend Tony Butcher) of Wilmington; two brothers, Bill (Betty) Keith of Cincinnati and Charles (Betty) Keith of Ripley; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Keith, and a sister, Marie Gabbert.

Services will be held noon Tuesday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, the Rev. Elizabeth Looney officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
