Helen Mathes
BRYAN -- Helen M. Mathes, 85, who resided at 19260 CR C, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2000 at Harborside Health Care, where she had been a patient since June 16, 2000.
She was born on January 29, 1916 in Hicksville, the daughter of Clarence and Jane (Dorsey) Hissong. On July 29, 1933, she was united in marriage with Glen A. Mathes in Orangeville, IN, DeKalb County. He died in July 23, 1981.
She worked at Sycro Corp., Hicksville, for 15 years.
She was a past member of North Scipio United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Richard (Glenna) Gessner, Tacoma, WA, Mrs. Jerry (Janet) Fenner, Bryan, Mrs. Fred (Cathie) Schubert and Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Hohenberger, both of Sherwood, Mrs. David (Helena) Trusdale, Clyde, OH, and Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Emmelhainz, Fort Wayne, IN; two sons, Gary, Butler, OH, and Ted, Bryan; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Nola Dunmire and Rosa Hanna, both of Hicksville, Dorothy Carlisle, Paulding, Edith Shipper, South Whitley, IN, and Virginia Johnson, Traverse City, MI; and four brothers, Ernie Hissong, Hicksville, Robert Hissong, Edon, Richard Hissong, Pleasant Lake, IN, and David Hissong, Ney.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Florence, and one brother, Harold Hissong.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 23 in Brown Funeral Home, with Pastor Christopher Hintz officiating. Burial was in Scipio Cemetery, Allen County, IN.
Preferred memorials to Gideons International or the donor's choice.

Mary Toth
HICKSVILLE -- Mary Toth, 98, 113 West Edgerton Street, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Fountain Manor Care Center.
She was born on August 26, 1902 in Hungary. She came to the United States in 1924. In 1927 she was united in marriage with Nicholas Toth; he died in 1957.
She was a homemaker and worked in housekeeping at Community Memorial Hospital for 11 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Silvers, Hicksville, and Beth Barger, Dayton, IN; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Francis, who died in 1989.
Funeral services were held in Brown Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Monday, August 28, with Rev. Thomas E. Oedy officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery. A prayer service was held in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday, August 27.

Noah Yoder
HICKSVILLE -- Noah V. Yoder, 55, 07327 Hicksville-Edgerton Road, died at 1:02 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2000 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was involved in a construction accident in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, August 22.
He was born on May 30, 1945 in Allen County, IN, the son of Victor and Adel (Eicher) Yoder. On June 3, 1970 he was united in marriage with Sara Troyer in Topeka, IN.
He was a farmer and construction worker.
He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sara; two sons, Andrew, Hicksville, and Freeman, at home; four daughters, Christine Stoll, Loogotee, IN, Carolyn, Esther and Anna, all at home; four grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Yoder, Hicksville; four brothers, Louis, Woodburn, IN, Sam, Melvin and LaVern, all of Hicksville; and one sister, Verna Schmucker, Hicksville.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 28 at the family home. Burial was held in the Amish Cemetery in Hicksville.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jacqueline Smith
NEWTON, KS -- Jacqueline McCalla Smith, 76, died at her home on Friday, August 25, 2000 following a long struggle with cancer.
She was born on November 1, 1923 in Hicksville, the daughter of Forest "Mack" and Lyndall (Stahl) McCalla. She received a BS degree in 1946 and a Master's degree in 1948 from Ohio University in Athens.
She married Lt. William Judson Bowen in July 1944; he was killed in action in April 1945. On June 12, 1949 she married Lloyd Thomas Smith in Manhattan, KS. They lived in Hutchinson, KS, Mexico City and Birmingham, MI before moving to Newton in 1958.
She taught family and child development at Kansas State University.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, PEO and Ladies Reading Circle, all of Newton; a charter board member and officer of the Preservation of Kansas Landmarks, Inc; a member of the Junior League, Pi Beta Phi and Mortarboard Alumnae Clubs in Wichita, KS; and a charter board member of Botanica, the Wichita Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd; two sons, William Bowen, Dallas, TX, and Randall Thomas, San Francisco, CA; a daughter, Deborah Smith Douglas, Santa Fe, NM; five grandchildren; and a brother, William McCalla, Minneapolis, MN.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2 at the church, with Rev. James Anderson presiding.
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church Endow-ment Fund or Central Home Care and Hospice.

Wavabelle Addis
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Wavabelle Addis, 71, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born on July 17, 1929 in Hartford City, IN. Her husband, William, died in 1997.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Hall and Cindy, both of Fort Wayne; five sons, William R. III, Jeffery M. and Jeremy D., all of Fort Wayne; Gregory A., Columbus, IN, and Dennis, Cromwell, IN; a sister, Janet Wright, Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Services were held at 1 p.m. (IN time) on Friday, August 25 at C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home, Fort Wayne. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
