Rebecca Jean Sams
Rebecca Jean Sams, 71, of Sunbury and formerly of Columbus, died Sunday at her residence.
Preceded in death by a son, Harold Russell Jr.; her husband Harold Russell Sr.; and her father Eugene W. Dwiggans. Survived by mother, Mary E. Dwiggans; daughters Becky (Calvin) Bice of Sunbury and Mary (Phil) Miller of Grove City; son Eugene Sams of Logan; daughter-in-law Vivian Sams of Logan; eight grandchildren and eight grandchildren; brother John (Juanita) Mengel of Arizona; and by many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, with Pastor Stan Kirklan officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hospice Homecare at Grady Memorial Hospital, 641 W. Central Ave., Delaware (43015) or to a charity of your choice.

Alice M. Sartin
Alice M. Sartin, 61, Sunbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 12, 1999) at her residence.
She was born in Paintsville, Ky., on July 8, 1937, to the late Clark and Maudie (Blevins) Ratliff. She was a food service service with Riverside Hospital, Columbus, for 14 years.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Don Gallion, Marengo; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Fran and Preston Fettrow, Irvine, Calif., and Mary and Paul Bosart, Mount Vernon; one brother, Harold Ratliff; two grandsons, Donald and Jeremy Gallion; and one great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Gallion.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Ratliff; and a sister, Kathleen Rice.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Yvette Hensley officiating. Burial followed in Eastview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 253 E. Church St., Marion 43302, or Hospice at Riverside and Grant, 3535 Olentangy River Road, Columbus 43214.

Robert "Bob" Easton Satterfield Sr.
Robert "Bob" Easton Satterfield Sr., a lifelong resident of Centerburg who was born on March 8, 1934, passed away on April 24, 2001.
He retired from Rockwell International in March, 1990 after 38 years as a Lead Man and Supervisor. He was well-known throughout the plant as "Red."
Satterfield was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Korean Conflict, and a charter and life member of AmVets Post 59. He was a current second Vice Commander and former trustee. He was also a previous member of The American Legion Post 740, Whitehall V.F.W., F.O.E, and a volunteer for the Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin O. and Amelia (Crooks) Satterfield; four brothers, Edgar, Dwight, Donald and Richard; and by three sisters, Faye Shepard, Dorothy Torgeson and Bessie Satterfield.
Satterfield is survived his loving wife of 43 years, Thelma (Covrett); four loving children, Cherly (Dan) Brenner of Centerburg, Joyce (Bill) Phillips of Sunbury, Robert Jr. of Centerburg and Amy (Rob) Young of Dublin; Steve Albanese and John Daniels who were like sons; five devoted grandchildren, Linda and Crystal Phillips, Megan and Drew Brenner and Ryan Young; mother-in-law, Frances Covrett; three wonderful sisters, Eileen Pilkington of Marengo, Bettie (Charles) Jackson of Centerburg and Marianne (Homer) Ball of Delaware; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was Friday at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, Centerburg where services were held Saturday with the Reverend John Alexander officiating. Interment was in Eastview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the AmVets Post 59, New Building Funds, 3894 Columbus Road, Centerburg, Ohio 43011.

Viretta Saunders
Viretta M. Saunders, 71, Ontario, Canada, died November 30, 2001, at Doctor's Hospital, Montclair.
She was born on March 2, 1930, in Delaware and was a graduate of Delaware Willis High School. A long-time resident of Sunbury, she lived in Montclair and Ontario for 38 years. She retired from Best Products.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in October of 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Paula Ganoe of Ontario and Deborah Lowry of Crestline; a sister, Jean Fisher of Mount Gilead; three brothers, James Stimmel of Delaware, Paul C. Stimmel of Richwood, and Jack Stimmel of Sunbury; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services have been held and were in the care of the Neptune Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert and Beverly Lewis Cancer Care Center, 1910 Royalty Drive, Ponoma, California 91767.

Edward D. Saver
Edward D. Saver, 79, Sunbury, died unexpectedly Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at his home.
He was born April 11, 1920, in Piney Fork to the late John and Rose Saver.
Mr. Saver moved to Sunbury 39 years ago from the Columbus area. He worked as an engineer for Curtis Wright and the sales department of Flintcote & Gemstar companys. He owned and operated Blue Door Antiques in Sunbury. He was a member of the Sunbury Golf League, Sunbury Merchants Association and a former member of the Sunbury Lions Club. He enjoyed sports, golfing and antiques.
He is survived by his second wife, Marjorie; a son, Dan Saver, Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Christine Hill, DeBoise, Pa.; two brothers Donald Saver, Canton, and Harold Saver, Wintersville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie "Mudge" Moler Saver in 1991.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. David Hill officiating. Interment was at Sunbury Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Library, 44 Burrer Drive, Sunbury 43074.

Robert Sawyers
Robert Sawyers, 64, Centerburg, died Saturday (April 8, 2000).
He retired from Kelsey-Hayes Co. and was formerly employed by Galena Brick for 25 years.
He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Belvie Stacy; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Louise Sawyers, Cincinnati; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mabel and Ed Horn, Maryland, and Margaret and Robert Riley, Elizabeth and Claude Harrison and Barbara Sparks, all of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Richard, Howard, Washe Lee, Ed and Jackie Dean; and sisters, Aleen Riley and Wanda DeBoard.
Calling hours were at Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, Centerburg. Funeral services were held with Tom Booth, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Eastview Cemetery.

Goldie L. Saylor
Goldie L. Saylor, 75, Marengo, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at the OSU Medical Center, Columbus.
She was born January 31, 1926 in Lowmansville, Kentucky to the late Willie and Sarah Jane Edwards Dooley. The homemaker moved to the Marengo area in 1992 from Columbus.
Saylor is survived by her husband, Grady Saylor; two daughters, Geraldine L. (Allen) Hradek of Mount Vernon and Jane Shaffer of Marengo; two sons, John (Debbie) Shaffer of Urbana and Larry (Judy) Shaffer of Clarksville, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia Vinson of Virginia and Emma Sangillis of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Shaffer in 1968, and by nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation and services were Friday (April 6, 2001) at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Marengo.

Clarkson Wilson Sayre
Clarkson Wilson Sayre, 65, Marengo, died Tuesday (Nov. 21) morning at Heartland Nursing Center, Centerburg.
He was born June 22, 1935 in Elmwood, W.Va. to the late George and Mary (Grimes) Sayre. Wilson, who moved to Marengo 30 years ago from Columbus, was a retired carpenter with Local #105 Brotherhood of Ohio Carpenter and Joiners Union.
Sayre is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Willmina "Mina" (Warner) Sayre; a daughter Brenda (Danny) Kirk of Centerburg; sons Don W. (Vada) Sayre of Marion, Charles A. (Becky Owens) Sayre of Marengo and Paul (Tammy) Sayre of Marengo; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother Junior B. Sayre of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; and by numerous friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation and services were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

Leona M. Searles
Leona M. Searles, 86, Delaware, died Wednesday evening (March 14, 2001) at Wintersong Village, Delaware following an extended illness.
She was born on May 26, 1914 in Columbus to the late Clovis and Lucinda Hutchinson Houston. Leona moved to Delaware in 1989 from the northside of Columbus.
Searles had worked for J I Case, Highlights for Children and Capital Sales as an office worker and in the inventory control departments before retiring in 1982. She and her family also owned and operated the Sunbury Grill in the late 1940's.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
Searles is survived by her two daughters, Shirley A. (Paul) Holt and Janet L. Gallogly of Delaware; four granddaughters, Terry L. (John) Reeves, Fonda Phelps, Brenda (Bill) Kuba and Susan (David) DeVault; six great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Mary Champ of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold J. Nichols in 1959 whom she married November 12, 1930; her second husband Arlo Searles in 1977 whom she married February 4, 1972; a son-in-law, Gordon Gallogly in 1996; and a sister, Dorothy Greff.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware where funeral services were held. Interment followed in Otterbein Cemetery, Westerville.
Memorial contributions made be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Carroll Sears
Carroll A. Sears, 64, of Marengo, died Friday afternoon (October 12, 2001) at Doctors' Hospital North following surgery and a long illness.
He was born in Marengo on Oct. 22, 1936, to the late Ralph and Lucille Smothers Sears. A graduate of South Bloomfield High School's Class of 1954, he was a lifelong area resident, a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, and a retired truck driver for Carter Lumber. While in high school, he was active in football and basketball, and in 1953, along with his two brothers, Clyde and Dennis, he played a quarter of basketball with Tom and Dick Osborn for South Bloomfield High School.
An avid Cleveland Browns fan, he enjoyed golf, watching his grandchildren play sports, laughter, family, and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Carroll Sears Jr.
Surviving are his daughter, Kelly Eileen Simms of Marengo; three grandchildren, Cody, Tori, and Blake; his former wife and dear friend, Alta Eileen; for brothers and three sisters-in-law, David Sears of Apple Valley, Clyde and Sondra Sears of Centerburg, Dennis and Susan Sears of New Albany, and Robert and Debbie Sears of Sparta; a sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Phil Roush of North Canton; an uncle and aunt, Ralph and Evelyn Smothers of Tiffin; his Gram, Grace Steinhelfer; and his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Marengo, where funeral services were held. Burial will follow at a later date in Bloomfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Dialysis.
