Hazel M. Sherman
Hazel M. Sherman, 81, Galena, died Friday (January 25, 2002).
She was born in Westerville on November 24, 1920, the daughter of the late Jesse and Crystal (Wickersham) Hall. She moved to the Galena area in 1973 from Westerville.
Hazel was a homemaker who had also worked for Otterbein College and Kilgore Manufacturing. She was a member of the Peachblow United Methodist Church, where she was also active in the United Methodist Women. She loved music, playing the piano and animals.
She is survived by three sons Don (Barbara) Sherman of Lewis Center, William (Ellen) Sherman of San Diego, California, and John (Teri) Sherman of Galena; five grandchildren, Kelly, David, Barbara, Tamara and Laura; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Allison; a brother, Bob Hall of Newark; and a sister, Jeanne Roshon of Westerville.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, George Eber Sherman on February 24, 1985, and her brother, Gerald Hall.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with Pastor Bill Byers officiating.
Interment followed in Cheshire Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Peachblow United Methodist Church, 3247 Peachblow Road, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035.

Pete Sherman
Ralph H. "Pete" Sherman, 80, Galena, died Friday (May 12, 2000) at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
He was born on April 8, 1920 on the family farm in Berlin Township to the late Eber and Edna (Snyder) Sherman. He was a graduate of Berlin High School class of 1938. He was a lifelong farmer and Berlin Township resident. He was a school bus driver for 41 years for the Olentangy School System. He enjoyed euchre and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by sons Randy of Columbus and Rodney of Galena; daughter and son-in-law Rayne and Rich Colley of Eden, NC, and granddaughters Ashley and Brittney Colley.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby E. (Talbert) Sherman in 1982; brothers Homer and George and sisters Mary Sherman and Lavinia Griffith.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with the Rev. William Byers officiating. Interment followed in Cheshire Cemetery.

Ida Shicks
Ida V. Shicks, 85, of Bradenton, Fla., and formerly of Center Village, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999).
She was a member of Sunbury Christian Church of Christ.
She is survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law, Judith and Neil Gorsuch, Jane Gross, Virginia and Rene Yandrich, Vivian and James Rice and Kimberly and Jay Geisler; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Nonata Shicks and Donald and Russell Shicks; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends in Ohio and Bradenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Delno Shicks.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Norman Gendt officiating. Burial followed at Fancher Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Society, Hospice of Riverside or a charity of the donor's choice in Ida's memory.

James T. Shidecker
James T. Shidecker, 95, of Sunbury, died Thursday morning (March 26, 1998) at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville.
He was born in Columbus on June 2, 1902, to the late James E. and Sarah B. (Fridele) Shidecker. He graduated from Ohio State University in June, 1923, with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the varsity track team and held a Big Ten championship for the high jump, which he achieved in 1922. He was a member of the Triangle Fraternity and the OSU Alumni Association. As a minor league baseball player, he played against notables including Babe Ruth and Jim Thorpe.
Mr. Shidecker was self-employed, and was involved in the construction of Interstate 71 overpasses north of Columbus. He was a 73-year member of the Ralph R. Rickly Lodge No. 670 F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and Aladdin Temple. He enjoyed sports and dedicating time to the Columbus Foundation.
He is survived by his friend Alice Van Dyke of Sunbury.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lucille (Church) Shidecker on May 21, 1989.
Services were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, with the Rev. Weldon Stockwell officiating. Masonic services also were held. Interment was in Glen Rest Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Foundation, Lucille C. and James T. Shidecker Scholarship Fund, 1234 E. Broad St., Columbus OH 43205.

Margie M. Shisler
Margie M. Shisler, 64, of Delaware died on Friday (Aug. 14, 1998) at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Born in Kenna, W.Va., on June 15, 1964 to the late Clayton and Nina (McLaughlin) Vance, she moved to Delaware from Urbana 40 years ago. She served as the Delaware 4th Ward Councilwoman from 1986 to 1995. She retired after 20 years as a supervisor with the former Haglunds-Dennison Company of Delaware, and enjoyed cooking and volunteering at the gift shop in Grady Memorial Hospital.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, on Feb. 29, 1988, and a brother, Clayton Vance Jr.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Smith of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephan E. Parker of Saylersville, Ky., and Rex and Donna Parker of Hillsboro, Ky.; three adopted grandchildren, Steven Parker and Crystal and Eric Lappie, all of Delaware; 13 grandchildren, Thomas, Aaron, Garrett, Brian, Leah, Ashley, Alisha, Joshua, Natasha, Kailum, Dakota, Emmie Jo, and Karla; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Steve; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Helen Wilson of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Judith and Arthur Huffman of Hilliard; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwight and Rosemary Hardman of Milwaukee, Wis., and Victor and Sheila Vance of Centerburg; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware, where services were held. Interment was in St. Mary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association's Columbus chapter, 1580 King Avenue, Columbus 43212-2000.

Mardell Shultz
Mardell Shultz, 61, Sunbury, died Friday (May 25, 2001) at Grant Medical Center.
Born in Delaware County on November 2, 1939, to Ethel (Farris) Wilcox of Sunbury and the late Burnice Wilcox, she was a member of the Big Walnut High School Class of 1957. She assisted with the operation of John Shultz Stables and is described as an incredible mother who loved her children, grandchildren and horse racing.
She was a member of Sunbury First Baptist Church, Ohio Harness Horsemans Association, United States Trotting Association and was past worthy matron of OES Columbia Chapter No. 33 and a past member of OCCL.
Along with her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Williams; and a brother Wallace Wilcox.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 43 years, John W.; six daughters and sons-in-law, DellAnn and Joe Kuhn of Sunbury, Darla and Ernie Gaskin of Anderson, Ind., Melody and Scott George of Sunbury, Jona and Keith Baer of Sunbury, Kila and Ronnie Steck of Marengo, and Amber and Chad Hankins of Sunbury; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Allie Zarley of Delaware; 13 grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Roger Higgins of East Alton, Illinois; sisters-in-law Joan (Gene) Fuller and Jane (Gary) Davis; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Jim and Judy Buell.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with the Reverend Larry Griffin officiating. Interment was in Sunbury Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 394, Sunbury 43074.

Beulah Shuster
Beulah M. Ford Shuster, 83, of Sunbury, died Sunday morning (June 11, 2000) at New Albany Gardens and Care Center.
She was born in Mason County, W. Va., on Jan. 2, 1917, to the late Lewis and Rowena (Tucker) Snyder. A homemaker and member of Condit Presbyterian Church, she had lived in Sunbury for 57 years after coming from Delaware.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Ford and Everett Shuster.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Roger Foor of Reynoldsburg and Beatrice and Steve Clark of Gahanna; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Carol Shuster of Delaware; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Richard Needles of Columbus; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Ellis of Gahanna and Ryan Foor of Reynoldsburg; four brothers, Wally, Camden, Charles, and Bob Snyder, all of Delaware; and a sister, Margaret Ashbrook of Ashley.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with the Rev. Bethany Wallace officiating. Interment followed in Trenton Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at New Albany Gardens and Care Center for the care given to Beulah during her stay.

Gladys Shuter
Gladys Shuter, 88, of Sunbury, died Saturday (June 1, 2002) evening at Edgewood Manor of Westerville.
She was born in Wellston on March 7, 1914, to the late Harmon and Myrtle (Rhoades) Dew. She lived in the Sunbury area for 41 years, having come from Columbus. She was a homemaker, a member of Sunbury United Methodist Church where she served as a communion steward and Kitchen Angel, and was a member of the Eight and Ten Club, Columbus.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Gerald "Bud" Shuter, whom she married on February 28, 1936, in Columbus; a brother-in-law and wife, Arthur and Margaret Shuter of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; sisters-in-law Margaret Walters and Clara Keene, both of Sunbury; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Jim and Diana Thorpe of Sunbury.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 182039, Dept. 013, Columbus 43218-2039.

Willard E. Shutts
Willard E. Shutts, 84, Sunbury, died Saturday afternoon (January 5, 2002) at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Shutts was born on March 12, 1917 in Canton to the late Harry and Elsie Wells Shutts. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and an area resident since 1960. A retired truck driver and heavy equipment operator, he enjoyed woodworking and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dexter E. Conley Shutts; two stepdaughters, Annetta (James) Davidson of Marengo and Freda Sargent of Westerville; a stepson, Louis W. Armbrust of Columbus; five grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Shutts of Lewisville, Ohio.
Shutts was preceded in death by brother, Leonard, and a sister, Dorothy Carr.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association.

William Skaggs
William E. "Gene" Skaggs, 55, Delaware, died Friday evening (October 5, 2001) at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Born on February 26, 1946, in Union County to the late Harry Martin and Pauline Skaggs, he enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, horse racing and his grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Annett Skaggs, in 1979.
Surviving are his son, Tommy Skaggs of Mount Vernon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Tim White of Sunbury and Terra and Andrew Ellis of Mount Vernon; and three grandchildren, Rebecca and Zachary White, and Lani Skaggs.
A memorial service was held at Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Avenue. No calling hours were observed. Arrangements were in the care of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Skaggs Family, 10861 Ohio 521, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.
