Anna (Serban) Nicoiu, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002. Beloved wife of the late Nick. Loving mother of Victoria Cotopolis (Pete) of Mansfield, OH, Mary Taillard (Larry) of Livonia, MI, Ann Serban (Charles, Dec) of Willoughby, OH. Grandmother of five, great-grandmother of 11, great-great-grandmother of two. Dear sister of the late Mary Cojocar, Mike Serban and Nick Serban. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 p.m. at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, OH. Funeral Mass Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church, Euclid, OH. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, OH. Charles A. Barrackman Sr.
Charles A. Barrackman Sr., age 92, of Canton died Monday in the home. Born November 9, 1909, in Morgantown, WV to the late David and Goldie Barrackman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II; and was a retired machinist. Preceded in death by his wife, Doris; and one sister, Lula Hardesty. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Judy Barrackman; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Magariette Capron of Florida and Aldine Belilie of California. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Diana M. Moretti
Diana M. Moretti, 80, of Alliance, died on Monday, August 5, 2002 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. Born in Lyra, OH on April 28, 1922, she had lived most of her life in the Alliance area. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Edward Moretti, whom she married on July 23, 1946; a daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Glen Weir of Canton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Patricia Moretti of Canfield, Michael and Kimberly Moretti of Alliance, and Robert and Katrina Moretti of Alliance; six grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters, Dora Boschini of Arkansas, and Lou Clayton of Alliance; two brothers, Lowell Collins of Alliance, and Leo Collins of Salem; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, Basil and Sarah (Middleton) Collins; and a brother, Dempsey Collins who died in November, 1991. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Leo Wehrlin as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9:00 p.m.

Donald E. Esmont
Donald E. Esmont. February 20, 1940 to August 3, 2002. On August 3, 2002, Donald E. Esmont, 62, a local attorney of Peggy Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, succumbed to a two- year bout with cancer. Mr. Esmont was born in Canton, Ohio, on February 20, 1940, of the marriage of John P. Esmont, Sr. and Violet Rostonski Miller both of whom predeceased him along with a brother, John P. Esmont, Jr.; a sister, Janet P. Snyder; and a special step-father, Robert Emanual Miller. He moved to South Bend with his family in 1943. Mr. Esmont was a 1957 graduate of Mishawaka High School. He attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with distinction in 1963 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors in 1966. From 1964 through 1968, he served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. He later resigned his commission in the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Captain after overseas service in the Republic of Vietnam and the Dominican Republic. On May 9, 1970, he married Sharon Kay McCormack who survives along with two sons, Thomas David (Lina) Esmont of Orlando, Florida, and Kenneth Scott Esmont, of South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Esmont is also survived by a brother, Richard R. Esmont, South Bend; by special in-laws, Pamela S. McCormack, Edwardsburg, Michigan; David M. (Mei) McCormack and Earl Lynn (Nancy) Snyder, South Bend. Mr. Esmont practiced law in South Bend for 34 years, as a member and partner of the law firm first styled as Manion, Boynton, Kamm Esmont and now known as Boynton, Esmont and Zawalich. Mr. Esmont served many years as a member and president of the South Bend Estate Planning Council. He served for nine years as a member of the board of directors and two years as president of the Visiting Nurses Association. He received the Agnes Carlysle Studebaker award for long and distinguished service to the association. Until his retirement, he was a member of the St. Joseph County and Indiana State Bar Associations, and was a 27-year member of the South Bend Rotary Club. He was a frequent speaker, writer and seminar presenter. For 24 years, Mr. Esmont was a Boy Scout adult volunteer serving most recently as the LaSalle Council's Training Chairman and a member of its Executive Board, Executive Committee and Advisory Board. He received the District Award of Merit and the BSA Silver Beaver Award for meritorious service to youth. He was also a junior baseball coach, High School Mock Trial Judge and Notre Dame Moot Court Judge. The last 10 years he was also on the planning committee for 1957 Class of Mishawaka High School Reunion. Mr. Esmont was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in South Bend where he served on the Church Council, Youth Board and Board of Trustees. He was also a Junior League co-sponsor, Sunday school teacher, and church treasurer. Mr. Esmont served as station volunteer for Michiana's WNIT Channel 34 PBS television station and was a member of the Station's Community Advisory Board. He was awarded the Station's 2002 CAB Extra Mile Volunteer of the Year Award. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion Mr. Esmont received during his illness from oncologist Dr. Juan P. Garcia and the staff of the Northern Indiana Oncology Associates, Memorial Hospital and Hospice of St. Joseph County. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002, in the Welsheimer North Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. A memorial service will be held at Welsheimer Funeral Home, South Bend, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2002, with Pastor Schwier officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 West Cleveland Road, Granger, Indiana. George M. Welch, Jr.
George M. Welch, Jr. Services will be Friday in the Canton Baptist Temple at 1 p.m. with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. and one hour before services at the church (12-1 p.m.)

George W. Jackson
George W. Jackson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Cemetery, Cairo. Calling hours in the funeral home two hours prior to services from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Harry W. Fryman
Harry W. Fryman, passed away suddenly on Aug. 6, 2002. Born in Canton, Mr. Fryman retired from Wean United in 1982, following 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Risher; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Cheryl Lee) Talkington of Canton; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also survived by stepdaughter, Mrs. Daniel (Pamela) Clymore; a stepson and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Adeline R. Mickey Fryman in 1993. An Air Force veteran of World War II, Harry was a charter member of North Canton Elks, member of McKinley Eagles and was a lifetime member of the McKinley Rifle Pistol Club. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Sunset Hills Burial Park with Rev. Laura E. Fitt officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Christian Church, 210 N. Main St., North Canton, OH 44720. The Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Feicht
John E, Feicht, 79, of Sandusky, died late Monday afternoon, August 5, 2002, at the Erie County Care Facility, Huron after a lengthy illness. He was born in Canton, OH on October 13, 1922. He was a graduate of St. John's High School, Canton, OH and a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He enjoyed traveling, sports and loved his children and grandchildren. He had taught and coached at St. Mary's High School from 1948-1956. He had been an insurance agent for Western and Southern Life Insurance Company and later he was an appraiser in Real Estate. Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #546. Survived by wife of 54 years, Marjorie G. Marg (Hosfeld) Feicht; five sons, Edward (Sylvia) Feicht, Rensselaer, IN, David (Bernice) Feicht, Morgantown, WV, Dan Feicht, Sandusky, OH, Joseph (Robin) Feicht, Federicktown, OH, Thomas (Kerry) Feicht, Groton, CT; three daughters, Mary Kay Feicht, Salt Lake City, UT, Theresa Feicht, Vestal, NY, Julia (Joe) Adams, Fremont, OH; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Leo P. Catherine (Waechter) Feicht, two brothers, Rev. Joseph Feicht Paul Feicht, sister, Rose Ringer-Egert. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, from 5-8 p.m. at the David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH. Prayers will be recited Thursday morning, August 8, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Joseph P. Mulligan
Joseph P. Mulligan, of Liverpool, NY., died July 31, 2002. Born in Canton, OH., to James and Mary (Gavaghan) Mulligan. Graduated from St. John's High School in 1939. He was the second highest scorer in basketball in Canton in 1938 and 1939. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Employed by the Sheriff's Dept. as a Court Attendant in Syracuse, NY. Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Collins and Nora Mulligan; three brothers, Thomas, Frank and James Mulligan. Survived by his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Nancy Wilson and Molly Gunsalus; two sisters, Nancy Markley and Peggy Klein; brother, John Mulligan; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held August 3, 2002, in St. John's Church, burial was in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in New York.

Judith A. McArdle
Judith Ann McArdle, age 57, of Canton, died Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Community following a lengthy illness. She was born June 18, 1945, at Akron to Kenneth and Elizabeth (Weiler) Olinger and was a 1963 graduate of Green High School. Judith was an Officer and Office Manager with the former McArdles IGA Store and had also worked as an Office Manager for Dr. Hofacker. She attended St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at Massillon, was an honorary member of the East Central Ohio Food Dealers Assoc., she enjoyed crafts, gardening and had devoted many years to McArdles IGA and attended many seminars and conventions. In 1987 she received the Ohio Woman of the Year award for the Grocery Industry. In addition to her mother, Elizabeth Olinger, who resides in Uniontown, OH, she is survived by her husband, Stuart B. McArdle, whom she married Sept. 24, 1966; sons, Bryan M. McArdle of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel A. McArdle of New Lenox, IL; brothers and sisters, Kenneth Olinger, Jr. of Green, Mary Kay Albright of Akron, Leonard Olinger of Akron, Debra Williams of Uniontown; two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home, Massillon, with Rev. Henry G. Harris officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Stark Area Office, 925 S. Main St., North Canton, OH 44720.

Mary R. Wucinich
Mary R. Wucinich, age 85 of Canton passed away Sunday evening after a sudden illness. Mrs. Wucinich was born in Islen, PA, and had lived in Canton most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Angelo and Olivia (Livery) Penn; husband, William on March 28, 1992; three brothers, Frank, Mario and Paul Penny; and one sister, Sylvia Penny. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Donna Wucinich of North Canton; three grandchildren and their spouses, Diane and Victor Haidet, Karen and Michael Weeks and Sandra and Doug Dowers; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday (today) at 10 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Ronald M. Klingler officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 9-10 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. Rita M. Meiner
Rita M. Meiner, age 71, of North Lawrence, died Tuesday. Rita was born October 30, 1930, in Massillon, to the late Wilbur and Ethel (Higgins) Garman. She was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School. Her husband, Donald James Meiner preceded her in death in July 1990; and two brothers, James Bud Garman and Walter Garman. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Warren Daily; sisters, Anna Mary Leinenveber, Sarah Lorson, all of Massillon; grandchildren, Debbie Kinsey, Donna Daily; great-grandson, Austin Kinsey. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will be at East Greenville Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Community Hospice.

Wilda M. Wagner, age 85, of Canton, died Monday evening in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Canton, Wilda was retired from Real Estate Sales. Preceded in death by a son, A. Allan Wagner in 1966; also by her husband, August A. Wagner in 1989. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ilse Valley; three nieces, Mrs. David (Kristine) Jones, Mrs. Robert (Kathy) Walczak and Betty Hume; three nephews: Karl (Florence) Valley, Kurt (Gina) Valley and Walt Studer. Funeral service will be Thursday 1 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Frances E. Sherwood
Frances E. Sherwood, 82, of Alliance, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 6, 2002. Born in Barberton on April 30, 1920, she had lived in the Alliance area for the last 50 years. She was a graduate of Barberton High School and of the Catholic faith. Frances and her husband, Lee, would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on September 12th. They devoted their lives to their children and grandchildren; four daughters and their spouses, Geralyn (Jim) Noble of Las Vegas, Becky (Doug) Ziegler of Atwater, Laura (Mike) Florea of Alliance, and Beth (Joe) Corbi of Hartville; eight sons and their spouses, Mark Sherwood of Alliance, David (Linda) Sherwood of Lexington, KY, Tom (Aiko) Sherwood of Akron, Kevin (Linda) Sherwood of N. Canton, Gary (Cathy) Sherwood of Uniontown, Terry (Gerry) Sherwood of Gainesboro, TN, Bob (Theresa) Sherwood of Oakley, CA, and Brian (Cassie) Sherwood of Magnolia, CA; 35 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; seven sisters, Monica Krause of Canal Fulton, Zita Gavinesky of Wadsworth, Mary Hardbarger of Harrisville WV, Bernadine Weatherford of Lynchburg VA, Theresa Herchek of Akron, Helen Walter of Akron, and Lucy Sansosti of Barberton; four brothers, Joseph Thesing of Grass Valley, CA, Chuck Thesing of Barberton, John Thesing of Barberton, and Jim Thesing of Norton; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Zita (Meehan) Thesing; a daughter, Judith Sherwood Newton in 1981; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Sherwood (Mark's wife). Ruth Elizabeth Gero
Ruth Elizabeth Gero, age 84, of East Canton, died unexpectedly Monday in Aultman Hospital. She was an East Canton area resident for 50 years, retiring from Aultman Hospital in 1983 after 12 years as a SICU division assistant. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ for 53 years, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, quilter, choir member and in various other capacities. Member of the Lowell D. Oberly American Legion Auxiliary Post #667. She served as a WAC during World War II. Ruth was very dedicated to her church, her loving children and husband. She was kind to all who crossed her path, people and animals alike. If you were to ask her today How ya doin', Ruthie?. She'd reply, Oh, darling, I'm doing just fine. She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Gero, with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage on July 29, 2002; two sons, Brian Gero of Canton, Stephan Gero of East Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Mike Lahmers of Louisville; one brother, Walter Trimble of Mexico City, MX; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phoebe Gero of Cuyahoga Falls, Elizabeth and Robert Sieglitz of Bronx, New York City. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev. Jenna Meisner officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Robert Leon Arnold
Robert Leon Arnold, age 82, of Canton, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2002 in the home. Born October 22, 1919 in Canton, he was the son of the late Wade W. and Hallie F. (Clarke) Arnold. Robert was a life resident of Canton. He was retired from LTV (Republic Steel) in Canton. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, William McKinley Lodge #431 F AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and Tadmor Shrine, where he had served as treasurer of the Canton-Massillon Shrine Club Transportation Unit. Preceded in death by his wife, Vida Mae Arnold. Survived by his sons, Barry (Chris) Arnold of Sherwood, AR., Brion (Joyce) Arnold of Canal Fulton, OH; brothers, Richard C. (Su) Arnold of Columbus,OH, Dwight E. (Leigh) Arnold of Slidell, LA; six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Canton with the Reverend Daniel McKee officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Canton-Massillon Shrine Club Transportation Unit, 1124 Roslyn Avenue NW, Canton, OH 44708. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton.

Daniel Alan Nisly, age 25, passed away August 4, 2002. Born in Canton, Daniel lived in the area all of his life. He was a 1995 graduate of Central Christian High School. Daniel was employed with J.E.M. Concrete and was a member of Hartville Mennonite Church. He is survived by parents, Ken and Suellen Nisly; sister, Rebecca, all of North Canton; grandparents, Alvin and Catherine Nisly of Uniontown and Shirley Wyler of Hartville; aunts and uncles, Wanda and Lee Ressler, Randy and Phyllis Nisly, Joey and Mitzi Wyler, Scott and Diane Wyler, and Cyndi Youngman; and numerous cousins and many friends. Funeral service Friday 10 a.m. at HARTVILLE MENNONITE CHURCH, 1470 Smith-Kramer St. NE, Hartville with Pastor Kent Miller officiating. Burial at Hartville Mennonite Church Cemetery. David L. Alborn
David L. Alborn, age 49, of East Sparta, died suddenly Sunday afternoon. He was born in Canton on February 1, 1953 to Edward and June Alborn. He was employed as a mechanic and driver for Belnap Trucking. However, most importantly, he was a loving, caring and kind father and friend. David is survived by his parents; his sons and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Beth Alborn of Strasburg, OH and Jason Alborn of Magnolia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Betty Alborn III of East Sparta and Jack and Carol Alborn of Canton; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Huff of East Canton and Darla and Dennis Wickham of Canton.
