Bonnie B. Valle
Bonnie B. Valle, age 60, of Bolivar, OH, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Massillon Community Hospital, Massillon, OH, from a long illness. She was born June 10, 1942 in Canton, OH, to her late parents, Ray and Estella (Fort) Smith. Graduate of Canton South High School, Canton, OH in 1959. Member of Canton South Community Church, Canton, OH. Survivors include husband, Reno Valle Sr.; daughter, Jeanne and husband, Chris Clark of East Canton, OH; sons, Reno Valle Jr. of East Canton, OH, Douglas and wife, Amy Valle of El Centro, CA; grandchildren, Melinda Valle, Kyle Ulrich, Erika Valle, Kiera Valle; brothers, Lawrence Smith of Vincent, OH, David Smith of Marietta, OH; sisters, Judy Borne of East Canton, OH, Janet Lieser of Bolivar, OH, and Arline Oberster of East Sparta, OH. Preceded in death by her special niece, Judy Ann Mottice. Memorial service Saturday at 2 p.m., June 15, 2002 at Indian Run Christian Church, 7455 Hill Church St., East Canton, OH with Rev. Carol Smith. At her request her body was donated to Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine.

Carlos Porter
Carlos Porter, age 78, of Dalton, passed away Thursday morning at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on Feb. 7, 1924, in Smallie, KY, to the late Charles and Martha (Workman) Porter. He lived most of his life in the Dalton area and retired as a crane operator with Union Metal. He served in the United States Marines during World War II. He was a member of the National Rifle Assoc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Porter; sons, Lawrence Porter, Roy Porter and a grandchild. He is survived by daughter, Karla Fisher of Massillon; son, Jerry Porter of Dalton; sisters, Dorothy White of North Carolina, Geneva Williamson of Toledo; brothers, Willis Porter of Reedsville, Gustus Porter of Dunlow, WV, Billy Porter of Dunlow, WV, Clifford Porter, Orvile Porter of Columbus; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral Home Friday (tonight) 6-8 p.m.

Frances Pellegrini
Frances Pellegrini, age 85 of Canton, passed away Wednesday evening in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Malvern, OH, and had lived in Canton most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pietro and Maria Louisa (Evangelist) Mammone; and step-mother, Maria (Cirelli) Mammone; her husband, Vincent Pellegrini. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony M. and Vickie Pellegrini of St. Augustine, FL, Daniel B. and Kathy Pellegrini of Canton, Frank and Tina Pellegrini of North Canton; one daughter, Luisa Ruth of Canton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Olga Mammone, James and Donna Mammone and Sylvester and Janet Mammone all of Canton; one sister, Phyllis Klemper of Melbourne, FL; ten grandchildren and spouses, John and Michael Metheney, William and Michelle Metheney, Daniel Pellegrini, Tina Pellegrini, Tonya and Jeff Bennett, Rocco Pellegrini, Danielle Black, Megan Mars and Michelle Pellegrini; eight grandchildren and also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mancini officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be made to Canton Saint Paul's Catholic Church.

Ida C. Billman. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Paul Rudy, Aultman Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home two hours prior to services from 12:00-2:00 p.m.

James T. Reese
James T. Reese. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton with Brother Dave Lombardi officiating. Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery. Friends may call Friday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333 or to the Youth Ministries, c/o Trinity Gospel Temple, 1612 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, OH 44708.

Joseph H. Rosia
Joseph Joe H. Rosia, age 80, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday June 12, 2002 in St. Joseph Care Center following an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville.

Joseph J. Gialluca
Joseph J. Gialluca, age 86, of Canton, passed away Thursday morning in Aultman Hospital after brief illness. The full obit and funeral arrangement will be published in Saturday's paper. The ROSSI Funeral Home in charge of arrangement.

Richard A. Selogy
Richard A. Selogy, age 63, of Canton, passed away Tuesday at Aultman Hospital. Dick was born August 29, 1938 in Massillon to the late John W. and Virginia (Riley) Selogy and lived all of his life in the Massillon/Canton area. He as a self employed home improvement contractor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Newbauer and Judy Define, brothers, Louis, John Jr. and Donald Selogy. He is survived by stepchildren, Jackie Howard, William (Gayle) Stages Jr., Mary (Russell) Lou, Cliford Stage Jr., Jeffrey Stage, all of Canton; sisters, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Clendenin of South Carolina, Mrs. Michael (Mary Lou) Evanovich of Maumee, OH, Mrs. Joe (Peggy) Shively of Zelienople, PA; brothers, Joe Selogy, Ronald Selogy, Danny Selogy, all of Massillon. The family will receive friends on Saturday 12-12:45 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The body has been cremated.

Robert S. Bowman
Robert S. Bowman, age 82, of Jackson Twp., passed away unexpectedly and peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Garnet (Ensminger); sister, Donna Bates of Virginia; sons, Ronald (Hilda), Carl (Celinda) and Mike (Mikey); daughter, Cindy Joseph (Tom); stepsons, Eric Blumensen, Glenn Black, MD (Cheryl), Douglas and Donald Ensminger; and stepdaughter, Connie (Tim) Lewis; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Chemical Dept., was a Major in the Army Air Corps in WWII where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. He was an avid flyer and was the oldest and most senior member of the Aero Fliers Club, played in two community bands and loved cooking. Friends and family will be received at the home 4580 Parkdale Ave NW, Canton, OH., from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday June 15, 2002. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Christian Ministries Church, PO BOX 80394 Canton, OH., 44708-0394 or to your favorite charity. According to his wishes, his body was donated to the NEOUCOM Body Donation Program.

Rome B. Maney
Rome B. Maney, age 86, of East Sparta, died Wednesday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Son of the late Milton and Missouri (Eller) Maney. He was an East Sparta resident for the past 48 years retiring from Republic Steel in 1978 after 30 years of service. Member of the Canton Baptist Temple, where he had served as an Usher, and Choir member. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lou Jeane (Allen), in 1997; two grandsons, David Knox Maney and Ray Charles Geckler; 13 brothers and sisters. Survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby Gail Bodin of Beach City, Roma Gardner of East Sparta, Zura Lynn and Michael Boyd of Gold Canyon, AZ, Rosella P. and Gary Tope of Waynesburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Knox E. and Joanne Maney of Lima, OH, Charles L. Maney of Akron; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Fletcher and Delores Maney of Brewster, J.B. Maney of Louisville, KY. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2-5 p.m.

Samuel R. Slates
Samuel R. Slates, 62, died June 12, 2002. Born in Canton, he lived for most of his life in Stark Co. Mr. Slates served in the United States Navy and retired from J.B. Muncer and Associates as a systems analyst in 2001. He was an active member of Maplewood Christian Church in Ravenna, and was a member of McKinley Lodge #431 F. A.M., Valley of Canton, Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Neva Dee; sons, Douglas Raymond (Davida) of Norfolk, VA, Daniel Christopher (Jeanne) of Twinsburg, Michael Jeffery of Twinsburg and Matthew Alan of Ravenna; grandchildren, Kari, Tristle, Kathryn, Lauren, Ryan, Samantha, Devin, and Jakob; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frederick Orin and Marilyn of North Canton, and Roger Edward and Judith of Port Charlotte, FL. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Maplewood Christian Church, 7300 State Route 8, Ravenna, with Rev. Bill Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian Childrens Home of Ohio, P.O. Box 765, Wooster, OH 44691.

Shirley J. Byers
Shirley J. (Coleman) Byers. The family will host a memorial reception from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday June 15, 2002 in the Beck Fellowship Hall of Zion United Church of Christ 415 S. Main St. N. Canton, OH. Interment has taken place in Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to American Association of Kidney Patients, 3505 E. Frontage Suite 315 Tampa, FL 33607 or the American Kidney Foundation of Ohio 1370 W. 6th St Suite 201, Cleveland, OH 44113. The Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Winifred J. Lee
Winifred J. Lee, age 31, of Mineral City, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning in the Aultman Hospital. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Allen and Gretchen Castor Starkey, and had been a Mineral City resident all her life. She was a 1989 graduate of Tusky Valley High School. Survived by her husband, Terry A. Lee; a step-son, Terry Adam Lee II and his wife, Tammy, and their children, Terry Adam Lee III and Taylor Jordan Lee, all of Canton; her sister, Lois Farkas of Mineral City, and her children, Shawn and Vince Farkas. Services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in Finefrock-Grodon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Jon L. Johnson officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Sunday 7-9 p.m.

Winifred P. Chaffee
Winifred P. Chaffee, age 77, of Lakeland, GA., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Louis Smith Memorial Hospital in Lakeland. She was born in Akron; a daughter of the late Charles and Violet Lenarz Swigart, and had been a Lakeland resident 26 years, previously residing in the Canton area 30 years. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Dillon, on June 9, 1990. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Dennis Dillon, of East Sparta; her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Phyllis Rittenour, of Barberton, OH; one brother, Wilbur Swigart, of Akron; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday (today) at 10 a.m. in the Melscheimer Cemetery with Pastor Todd Sovine officiating. There will be no calling hours. The Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia is in charge of arrangements.

Woodrow W. Gero
Woodrow W. Gero, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, died peacefully on June 11, 2002. He was born in Louisville, OH on June 18, 1916. Woodrow was a World II veteran and served in the European theater at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart and a medal for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. Woody married Phoebe L. Trimble on March 25, 1950. He attended Kent State University and graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Chemistry. Mr. Gero worked as a senior compounder at Goodyear for 32 years and was a member of the American Chemical Society. Woody was an active member of Bethany United Church of Christ for 48 years. His love for music was expressed through his 37 years of singing along with the Bethany Chancel Choir. Besides music, Woody enjoyed gardening and children of all ages. He believed in the inherent worth and dignity of all human beings. His acts of kindness, generosity and love set an example for others. We are thankful for his life. Woody was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phoebe L. Gero; his four children, David (Havi Echenberg), Thomas (Jennifer), Susan (Gary) Hickerson, Diane (James) Nielsen; six grandchildren, Mark, Adam, Corey, Alex, Laurie, Jacob; four sisters, Harriet Fritchley, Margaret Shaffer, Mary Love, Donna Jean Hillman; one brother, Richard L. Gero. Calling hours will be in Bethany United Church of Christ, Broad Blvd. and 13th St., Cuyahoga Falls, Saturday from 1-2 p.m. The funeral service will be immediately follow at 2 p.m. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with Appleman Post #3294 V.F.W. and Charles Faust Post #281 American Legion officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of Bethany United Church of Christ.

Raymond C. Reale
Raymond C. Reale, age 71, of Massillon, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Akron General Medical Center, Akron. He was born October 4, 1930, in Canton, and had lived in Massillon most of his life. He had worked as a tool and die designer at S.K.F. Tyson Bearing for 28 years, and was a bridge and road inspector for Stark County Engineers. He was a member of Saint Mary Parish, Massillon, and was Past Grand Knight of K Of C Council #554, where he was also a member of the 4th degree Bishop Massillon Assembly and a volunteer with the K of C Hot Lunch Program. He bowled and golfed with the K of C Bowling and Golf Leagues. He was a member of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers, VFW Post #3124, Amvets Post # 6, and Italian Club. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by wife, Florence \Dolly\(Cicchinelli) Reale of Massillon, three sons daughters-in-law, Thomas and Ela ine Reale of Anchorage, AK, Stephen and Patricia Reale of Kiana, AK, Richard and Therese Reale of Massillon, two daughters and sons-in-law , Lori and Alan Prosser of Stow, OH, Lisa and Lee Gross of Plymouth, MI, five brothers, Al Reale of CA, James Reale of Canton, Eddie Reale of Canton, Rev. Sante Reale of FL, Gus Reale of Louisville, OH, 13 Grandchildren, and nine Great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Sante and Loretta (Lombardi) Reale, daughter, Angela Reale (died 1956), grandson, Mark Reale (died 1972). Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Sante Reale officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel. Memorials may be made to K of C Hot Lunch Program 988 Cherry Rd N.W Massillon, OH 44647.

John M. Hiben
John M. Hiben, age 44, of North Canton, died Saturday evening in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Born Feb. 12, 1958 in canton. John was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Canton, the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and the Teamsters Union Local #24. He was an avid sports fan, was employed by Roadway Express, was an unpaid assistant with the Timken Trojan Baseball Team and was a former player for Doc Ferguson's Yankee Baseball Team. Most of all John was a loving husband, father, son and friend. Preceded in death by his father, John S. Hiben. Survivors include his wife, Deeann; three children, Carli Beth (10), Michael John (8), and Sarah MacRae (5), all of home; his mother, Anna Bell Hiben of Canton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vicky and Dan DeWalt and Jacky and Mike Smith, all of Canton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lyle and Nancy McGrath of Bolivar; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Petty McGrath of Beach City; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Daun and Will Cespedes of Bolivar and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. in the First Church of the Nazarene of Canton, 522 30th St. NW, Canton, OH. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services from 2-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hiben Children's Education Fund, c/o any Unizan Bank Branch.
