Allen Eli Huddleston
Allen Eli Alley Cat Huddleston, age 35 of Canton, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning. Born in Akron, he was a Canton resident most of his life. Allen was a self-employed landscaper. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Eli and Gertrude Huddleston, father, Carl Huddleston. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Huddleston of Canton; grandmother, Viola Griffin; brothers and sister-in-law, Eugene and Candance Huddleston, John Huddleston, Carl E. Huddleston, Steven Comb all of Canton; sisters, Frances (Sis) Laird of Canton; fiancee, Kelly Culberston of Canton; 10 nieces and nephews and countless friends. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME and one hour before services on Friday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Ann Murphy-Henman officiating. As were his wishes, Allen will be cremated.

Armenia Talarico
Armenia Talarico, age 82, of Maple Heights in Coshocton, formerly of Canton, OH., died in Coshocton Memorial Hospital Monday, June 3, 2002. Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Talarico, February 1991. Survived by daughter, Rose Ann Talarico of Coshocton; sister, William (Mary Ann) Becker of Canton, OH. Funeral services at St. Anthony's Catholic Church Friday, June 7, 2002, 11 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Bishop officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Canton, OH. Calling hours one hour prior to services at the church. Contributions to Holy Family Outreach, 300 E. Rich St., Columbus, OH 43215

Carleton Hostetler
Carleton C. Hostetler, age 53, of North Canton, died Sunday in his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. A life resident of the Canton area, he was a graduate of Lehman High School and Mount Union College. He was a member of the Market Heights Community United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Glenn F. and Marianne Hostetler. Survived by a brother, Glenn F. Hostetler II of North Myrtle Beach, SC and two nieces, Mara Lynn Hostetler and Lisa Marie Hostetler, both of Canton. A Memorial service will be Wednesday (tonight) at 7 p.m. in the Market Heights Community United Church of Christ, 3129 Market Ave. N., Canton, with Rev. Sandra Neal officiating. Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daisy Ruth Briggs
Daisy Ruth Briggs, age 84, of Massillon, OH, passed away Tuesday morning in the Meadow Wind Health Care following an extended illness. Born in Scottsdale, PA, on April 18 1918, she was the daughter of the late, Samuel and Cora Shipley. She was a former employee at Massillon State Hospital and a retired crane operator at Republic Steel Corp. She was of Baptist Faith and a member of AARP. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, also by her husband, John T. Briggs who passed away in 1958 and a daughter, Marlene Kelly in 1994. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Merle D. and Audrey A. Briggs of Massillon; granddaughter and her husband, Kathy and Kenneth Yoder of Massillon; four great-grandchildren, Brian Weaver and Jonathan Murray both of Massillon, Doug Murray of Columbus, OH and Danielle Matheny of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday (tonight) 5-7 p.m.

David Long
David Dave M. Long, age 30, of Middletown, OH, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at his residence. Mr. Long was born November 7, 1971 in Canton, OH, the son of Michael and Mary (Loudiana) Long. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1990, Bowling Green State University in 1994, and earned his Master's Degree in 1998 from Marygrove College in Michigan. He was the president of Pigskin-Roundball Spectacular, coached football at Middletown High School from 1994 until 2000, was involved with numerous activities at Middletown High School in 2001. Mr. Long was a social studies teacher at Middletown High School, a student government advisor, and started the Spirit Squad. He was a Crystal Apple Award Winner, and was honored with the All American Weekend President's Award. He is survived by his parents, Mike and Mary Long of North Canton; a sister, Dr. Lynette Long of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandmother, Dorothy Long of Massillon; two aunts and an uncle, Julie Border, Mary Lou and Michael Loudiana, all of Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, North Canton with Rev. Msgr. James A. Clarke officiating. Friends may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m. in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the David Long Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Pigskin-Roundball Spectacular, 530 North Marshall Road, Middletown, OH 45042.

Dorothea I. Weisent
Dorothea I. Weisent, age 78, of Canton, died Tuesday morning in the home following an extended illness. Born December 25, 1923, in Zanesville, OH to the late Howard and Nellie (Hoskins) Prince. She was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, was retired from Aultman Hospital in 1985 and was a member of Order of Eastern Star Delta Chapter #539 and McKinley White Shrine #54. Preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, Donald, Howard and Kermit Prince. Survivors include her husband, Bernard, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Skip and Karen Weisent of Canton; one sister, Roma Kent of Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Patton officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours in the funeral home Wednesday 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Aultman Hospital Cancer Center, 2600 - 6th St. S.W., Canton, OH 44710.

Eugene Cindea
Eugene Cindea, age 72, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Louisville he was the son of the late Stephen and Euphemia Cindea. An U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, he was retired from the Timken Company. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and Parlor Sunday School Class. An avid sportsman, he was a former member of the Canton Horseshoe Club and the Evangelical Bowling League. Preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen, Mircea, and Cornelle Cindea. He is survived by his wife, Alice to whom he was married 44 years; two sons, David Clark of Canton and Eugene C. Cindea of Gainsville, GA; two daughters, Diane Durbin of Canton and Karen Gobeli of Massillon; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Tom of Holly-in-the-Hills, FL., Virgil of Canton, Emil of Canton, Earl of North Canton, Nick of Massillon; two sisters, Melanie Branst of Parma Heights and Elizabeth Jack of Canton. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Grace United Church of Christ with Pastor Richard Ross officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. in the Earl B. Jack Funeral Home or one hour prior to services in the church.

Hazel St. Clair Garner
Hazel St. Clair Garner, of Phoenix, passed away June 1, 2002 at the age of 90. Hazel is survived by her son, Charles W. Garner and his wife, Shirley; daughter, Patricia Lou Mattingly and her husband William; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 PM, with service at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, June 5, 2002, Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix. Memorial contributions may be made to Shadow Rock Congregational Church, 12861 N. 8th Ave., Phoenix, AZ, 85029.

James M. Reich Sr.
James M. Reich Sr.. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Patton officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in his name to the Trust Fund for the college education of his grandchildren, Joshua and Chelsee Reich, c/o First Union, 14147 Walsingham Road, Largo, FL 33774.

James N. Schario
James N. Schario, age 76, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday afternoon at the home following a brief illness. Born in Canton on Jan. 21, 1926, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of the State of Ohio, Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post #44, DAV, McKinley Eagles Lodge #2370, VFW Post 693, Canton Elks Lodge #68 and Amvets Post #6. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Helen Schario of the home; his son, Michael L. Schario of Canton and his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine A. and Vincent Farina of North Canton; three grandchildren, Alenna Marie, James Vincent and Julia Nicole Farina; his brother, Leo M. Schario Jr. of San Diego, CA and his sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Rob Roberson of Woodbridge, VA. There are several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery with Msgr. John C. Finnigan officiating. There will be no calling hours. The Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julius J. Thurin
Julius J. Thurin, age 83, of Spokane, WA, died Sunday June 2, 2002. He was born Oct. 13, 1918 in Canton to Marion Viola (Maudru) Thurin. He graduated from St. John's High School in Canton and attended John Carroll University and St. Francis Xavier College in Cleveland. He joined Thurin's, the family retail furniture business in 1940 as credit manager and remained with the company until 1960 serving as President from 1954-1960. He was active in the Canton business community serving as President of the Canton Retail Credit Bureau, President of the Canton Retail Merchants Assoc. from 1952-1954 and was elected President of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in 1956. He was on the Board of Directors of the First Federal Savings and Loan Co., from 1957-1960. In 1960, he accepted a position in DesMoines, IO as President of Davidson Dept. Store. In 1964 he moved to Phoenix, AZ to manage Barrows Furniture Co., until 1972 when he became a buyer for home furnishings at The Harris Dept. Store, San Bernardino, CA. In 1978 he moved to Spokane, WA to supervise the building of the Lazy Boy Showcase Shop which he managed until his retirement in 1985. Julius was an active member of various Catholic parishes throughout his life. He helped established the new Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Peace in Canton, and was chosen as one of the first Extraordinary Ministers for Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in San Bernardino. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and James Thurin. He is survived by his wife, M. Elizabeth Polly (Grady) Thurin of Spokane, WA; a daughter, Kathy husband, Mike Hogan; grandson, Michael wife, Jill Hogan; granddaughter, Julie husband, Steven Fink; great-grandson, Michael Fink; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Fink all of Omaha, NE; three brothers, Louis Thurin of Minerva, David Thurin of Minneapolis, MN and John Thurin of South Bend, IN; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary Elizabeth) Freeman of Incline Village, Nevada and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spokane, WA Friday at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to American Lung Assoc. Funeral arrangements by the Hennessey Valley Funeral Home (509) 926-2423.

Katherine L. Hoover
Katherine L. Hoover, 102, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Colonial Manor, McAllen. Katherine was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Jacob F. Kull and Anna Marie Fankhauser Kull on April 1, 1900. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hoover in 1978; brothers, Harold and Walter; and sister, Grace; granddaughter, Kathy; and great-granddaughter, Melissa. She is survived by her sons, John J. Hoover of McAllen, and H. Paul Hoover, Canoga Park, CA; and grandchildren, Judith Emsley of Harlingen, TX., Brian Hoover of Missouri, Chris Hoover of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Greg Hoover of Canoga Park, CA; and five great-grandchildren. Katherine lived in Canton, Ohio until 1959, when she moved to McAllen, TX., then to Sarasota, Florida, and returned to McAllen in 1979. She was a loving homemaker, and accomplished musician, teaching piano and organ lessons. Her life was a source of strength and courage for her family. She was loved and admired by us all. May she now have peace and rest. There will be no local services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kreidler Funeral Home, Inc. of McAllen, TX.

Leah A. Hynes
Leah A. Hynes. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. John Nentwick as celebrant. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her name to Mercy Medical Center, for the Tree of Life Donation Fund.

Margaret June Chabot McFarland
Margaret June Chabot McFarland, age 77 of North Canton, OH passed away Monday morning, June 3, 2002 in St. Luke's Lutheran Home following an extended illness. A profoundly loving nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her sweet and gentle nature combined with a fun loving way of expressing her warm genuine character made her a delight and a pleasure to know. She maintained life long loyalties to family and friends and was always ready with a soft shoulder to cry on. June was born on March 10, 1925 in Canton, OH to William and Matilda Chabot. William Chabot's second wife, Edith Chabot Davis lovingly assumed the roll of step-mother to June over 60 years ago. The love of June's life was her Canton South High School classmate and sweetheart, Arthur W. McFarland to whom she was married for 53 years. June and Art had one son, William Gary McFarland of Shell Beach, CA. June retired from Rockwell Autonetics in California after 20 years of service and returned to Canton, OH where she was employed by John Gasser and Son Jewelers. June was predeceased by her mother, father and sister, Alma Jean Gamble and her husband, Arthur W. McFarland. June is survived by her step-mother, Edith Chabot Davis, son and daughter-in-law, William Gary and Sydney McFarland; grandsons, Cameron and Wesley McFarland; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Aaron, Kelly, Hannah McFarland; sisters, Sue Elazar and Judy Daigen; nephews, Mark Gasser and Scott Fredey; nieces, Gay Gasser and Kathy Ann Gamble. June will be truly missed by everyone that knew and loved her. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Staff of St. Luke's for the many years of exceptional care giving and to Dr. Charles Smith for his unrelenting care for June. Funeral services will be conducted Friday 11:00 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Martha I. Hegnauer
Martha I. Hegnauer, age 85, of Berne, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 in Swiss Village, Berne, IN. Born August 20, 1916 in Mulberry, IN, to the late Leander A. Sigrist and Electra I. Thompson. She graduated from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH, was active in churches, served by her husband, working with you, women and church choirs, former high school English Teacher. Also served as Social Service Designee and Director of Admissions at Chapel Hill Home, Canal Fulton, OH, and worked with Habitat for Humanity, Immokalee, FL, and Canton, OH. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Fred, Paul; sister, Gretchen Gilbert. Survived by her husband, whom she married August 3, 1938, Rev. Robert Hegnauer; one daughter, Marti Pizzini, Michigan City, IN; two sons, Richard Hegnauer of Willsboro, NY, David Hegnauer of Hopkinton, NH; and two grandchildren, Amanda Hegnauer and Sarah Hixson. Funeral services at Cross United Church of Christ with Rev. Randall Luther, Rev. Anita Rediger of North Canton Cemetery, N. Canton. Graveside services are Sat. June 8th at 11 a.m. at North Canton Cemetery, 7846 Pittsburgh Rd., North Canton. Calling hours will be Friday 3-7 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer F. Home and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Walter R. Edwards
Walter R. Wally Edwards, age 51, of Canton, died Monday in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was a Canton area resident for the past six years, employed by Arch Aluminum and Glass, and was formerly employed by U.S. Ceramic Tile, East Sparta. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the Army. He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Edwards in 1966. Survived by his wife, Tina M. (Maple), to whom he was married three years; one son, Will Edwards of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Sara Welker of Canton, Mary Welker of Sandyville; two step grandchildren; father and stepmother, Richard and Nancy Edwards of Sun City West, AZ; one brother, David Edwards; and his friend, Gary Connell of Bremen, GA. Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave., with Pastor Norman Dew officiating. Friends may call two hours before services on Thursday (1-3 p.m.).
