Gerald Hilton
Gerald Hilton, 81, of Strasburg died Sunday evening, April 7, 2002, at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief illness.
Jerry was born Feb. 14, 1921, at New Athens, O., to the late Floyd A. and Emma E. Able Hilton. During World War II, he served honorably with the U.S. Army Air Force in Panama as a radar operator for the signal aircraft warning battalion. In the service, Jerry also proudly served as mess hall sergeant and remained an avid cook. From 1963 until he retired in 1983, Jerry worked as an installer for Shook’s Siding in Massillon. His sense of humor and cooking skills will be missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Margie I. Johnson Hilton, whom he married April 27, 1946; daughters, Carol (James) Baker of Strasburg and Cheryl (Eric) Leach of Canton; son, James Gregory (Nancy) Hilton of Hampton, Va.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Rex Hilton in 1995, a brother, Andrew, and a sister, Dorothy Jones. Private services will be held.

Alma A. Agnes
Alma A. Agnes, age 88, of Navarre died Sunday at Doctors Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born May 29, 1913, at Brewster, O., to Albert and Daisy Brooks and was a life resident of the area. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church at Dundee, O., and had formerly worked as a nurses’ aide at Country Lawn Nursing Home at Harmon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond “Sheik” Agnes (1954), and son, Bobby Ray Agnes.
She is survived by daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Whitmore of Dover, Lynn Clayton of Akron, Jody Nelson of Cuyahoga Falls, and son, James G. Agnes of Navarre; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Lakeview Baptist Church with Pastor David P. Carroll officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home of Massillon is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 10202 State Rt. 93, Dundee, O. 44624.

Julia E. Ankrom
Julia E. Ankrom, 86, of New Philadelphia, and a long-time resident of Fry’s Valley, was called home by God unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Union Hospital in Dover.
She was born in Lock Seventeen on May 5, 1915, to the late Samuel J. and Laura A. Shull Kohler and reared in Fry’s Valley. In 1933, she graduated from Gnadenhutten High School. Julia was married in Maryland on Dec. 25, 1947, to the late Bernie Ankrom Sr., who died April 18, 1977, and her mother served as the witness and chaperone.
A longtime member of Fry’s Valley Moravian Church, Julia was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a devoted family woman who loved sewing, flower gardening, canning, and cooking. Julia was known for her homemade pies, noodles and cinnamon rolls. During the Second World War, she worked at the Goodyear plant in Akron, which was converted to build airplanes for the war effort. She also worked at the Belmont Stamping plant in New Philadelphia as well as keeping house for several New Philadelphia residents.
She is survived by daughters, Lois Inherst and L. Diane Tristano; sons, Bernie (Susie) Ankrom, Don Ankrom and Ron Ankrom, all of New Philadelphia; sister, Vandalia “Tutz” Zeller of Fairfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Brandi and Tony Ankrom, Adam (Loretta) Ankrom, Erica and Shelby Ankrom, Dawn (Rick) Morrow, Lacy, Brad II and Chad Inherst, Terry II (Michelle) Tristano, Shavon and Cody Tristano; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, brothers Delbert, Curtis, and Albert Eugene “Butz” Kohler and sisters, Froma, Katherine and Twila Kohler and Vodean Cummings preceded Julia in death. The funeral will be Sunday, April 21, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in the Fry’s Valley Moravian Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Following the cemetery committal, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Calling hours will be on Saturday (today), April 20, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia.

J. Woods Brown
On Thursday, April 25, 2002, Mr. J. Woods Brown, a prominent citizen of the Twin Cities community, passed away in John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Fla. He was 93 years old.
Mr. Brown was born in Maxville, O., on May 23, 1908. Upon graduating from Ohio University, he accepted a teaching position at Uhrichsville High School.
In 1944, he accepted a position as general manager of Tusco Grocers in Uhrichsville. He was responsible for building the new Tusco Grocers in Dennison, O., and served as general manager until retiring after nearly 20 years. He then returned to teaching at Claymont High School and retired from that position after serving a total of 24 years. During his tenure at Tusco Grocers, Mr. Brown was a member of Shurfine Central Corp. board of directors in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Brown was a member and past master of Mystic Tie Lodge No. 194, F&AM. He was also a past district deputy grand master of the 21st Masonic District in Ohio. He was a member of the A.A. Scottish Rite in Canton, O., the Tadmor Shrine Temple in Akron, the Gold Coast Shrine Club of Mahi Temple in Deerfield, Fla., the Elks Lodge in Uhrichsville, O., a past patron of Twin City Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a member of Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Delta fraternities. He was a clerk and member of the Uhrichsville Board of Education and clerk and member of the Claymont Library Board.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Edythe Henthorne Brown of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Helen Carole Bruney, and son-in-law, Larry Bruney; three grandchildren, Larry Bruney, Laura Moon and Lyle and Kim Bruney; and three great-grandchildren, Trisha and Chelsea Moon and Ashley Bruney, all of St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Brown will be cremated, and the ashes will be deposited at a later date in his gravesite at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. All the family plan on being present for this service.

Joshua Allen Watson
Joshua Allen Watson, age 6 weeks, of 8345 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg, W.Va., died at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, W.Va., at 6:25 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002. He was born March 15, 2002, at Marietta, a son of Keith McConnell and Bobbi Watson.
Surviving are his parents of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a brother and sister, Richard and Jessica Watson of Parkersburg; grandparents, Carla and Jerry Watson of Marietta and Sharon McConnell of Parkersburg, W.Va.; great-grandparents, Donna Clark of Parkersburg, W.Va., Ida Gustin of New Philadelphia, O., and Sarah Watson of Newcomerstown, O.; and great-great-grandmother, Lorinda Walker of New Philadelphia, O.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparent, Burl Watson, and great-great-grandparent, Otis Walker.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday (today) at 2 p.m. in Evergreen North Cemetery at Parkersburg, W.Va.

Warren R. Weber
Warren R. Weber, 85, of 6997 Sunset Boulevard Dundee, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at 3:15 a.m. in his residence after a brief illness.
Born May 1, 1916, in Strasburg, he was a son of the late Percy and Emma Newman Weber.
He retired in 1980 from the Hardy Coal Co. at Sugarcreek and was a member of the Barrs Mill Church of God.
Warren is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Florence “Trut” Wright Weber. Also surviving are one son, Don (Marsha) Weber of Dover; two daughters, Mrs. John (Dixie) Goettge and Dianne Barber, both of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn (Katherine) Weber of Strasburg and Donald (Twila) Weber of Bellfontaine, O.; and one sister, Mrs. Jane Harold of Beach City. In addition, he has over 200 brothers and sisters at the Barrs Mill Church of God.
One brother and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Barrs Mill Church of God. Rev. Scott Snyder will officiate and burial will follow in Dundee Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Barrs Mill Church of God and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County or the Barrs Mill Church of God.
Smith Funeral Home at Sugarcreek is handling the arrangements.

Patty Ann Riffle
Patty Ann Riffle, 64, of 860 Orange St., Coshocton, O., died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
She was born at Mount Clare, W.Va., on Nov. 10, 1937, to the late Tracy and Flora B. Bennett Greaver. She attended school in Lost Creek, W.Va., and moved to Coshocton in 1968. She was employed for over 31 years at Annin Flag Co. in Coshocton. She was an avid bowler and member of Recrette League at Coshocton Recreation and enjoyed many sports as a fan.
On June 10, 1961, she married Thomas P. Riffle, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Kay Riffle Pape of Coshocton, O., and Brenda Riffle Howell (Don) of Coshocton, O.; two grandchildren, Lance Thomas Howell and Kiesa Donn Howell; two brothers, Tracy Greaver (Betty) of Timberville, Va., and Lawrence Greaver of Timberville, Va.; two sisters, Denise Wimer of Coshocton, O., and Linda Barb of Woodstock, Va.; also several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held in Given-Dawson Funeral Home at Coshocton Wednesday, May 22, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dean Pierce officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery at Coshocton, O. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Given-Dawson Funeral Home and until service time Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Archie A. Croy Jr.
Archie A. Croy Jr., 78, of Strasburg died Saturday, May 18, 2002, in his home.
He was a longtime truck driver whose employment included the former Truck Coal Co.
Born April 8, 1924, at Dover, he was son of the late Archie A. and Jesse Burton Croy Sr.
Archie was a member of the former St. Aloysius Church at Strasburg and had been a member of the Dover Moose and Teamsters Union Local 92. He also enjoyed playing bingo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois J. Rohr Croy, who passed away on May 31, 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Susan) Mast of Baltic and Sandra “Sandy” Croy of Dover; a son, James A. and Tonja J. Croy of Strasburg; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Archie was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. with Christian Wake services being held at 8:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Logan A. Graham
Logan Aaron Graham, departed infant son of Aaron and Suzanne H. Graham of Akron, passed away July 13, 2002.
He is survived by his grandparents, Michael and Suzanne K. Graham of New Philadelphia and Michael and Lynne McNeal of Akron. He is also survived by his loving great-grandmothers, aunts, uncles and cousins. Logan will be honored at a private service for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, Aaron and Suzie ask that Logan’s short life be celebrated by remembering to cherish your loved ones and to openly share your love with children, who change the world in so many ways.
“You cannot catch a child’s spirit by running after it; you must stand still and for love it will soon itself return.” – Arthur Miller.

James Weigand
James “Jim” Weigand, 66, of Roswell, Ga., died Thursday, July 18, 2002, after a six-month illness of cancer.
Jim was born in Dover, O., a son of Norman and Edna Schupbach Weigand. He was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph High School at Dover. He moved to Roswell in 1985. He had recently retired from an outstanding 40-year career with Honeywell Inc. He was a member of the Horseshoebend Country Club and an avid golfer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by a large extended family of relatives and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jan; two daughters, Julie Hudak and Jennifer Weigand; a sister, Norma Murphy Wisintainer of Dover; a son-in-law, Charles Hudak; and two grandchildren, Caroline and Chad Hudak.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, his body was cremated. Memorial services were held in the Chapel of Roswell Funeral Home at Roswell, Ga. Those desiring may send donations to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arthur R. Senter
Arthur Ray Senter, 93, a resident of the Autumn Health Care Center at Coshocton, died July 17, 2002, at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1909, in Coshocton to the late J.H. and Eva Cooksey Senter.
He was self-employed in the construction business.
He is survived by a son, Raymond Senter of Baltic; a granddaughter, Teresa Ridgeway of Canton; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie and Nina, and a brother, John.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 22, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the South Lawn Cemetery at Coshocton with Mr. William Hopkins officiating.
The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling the arrangements.
