Anita Jo Sander
Anita Jo Sander, age 21, of Grand Island, NY, formerly of Canton, passed away suddenly on Monday. Arrangements are pending at the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home.

Beatrice I. Seiser
Beatrice I. (Schrader) Seiser, age 88, died on Mon., Feb. 4, 2002 at St. Joseph Care Center. Born in Jackson Twp., Oct. 10, 1913 to the late Mary (Violand) and Edward Schrader. Her husband, Herman E. Seiser II, died in 1970. A 1932 graduate of Louisville High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. A veteran of World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She received a special commendation while serving on detached service from the 203rd General Hospital to the 54th Field Hospital, July - Aug., 1944 in Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. She retired in 1979 from Mercy Hospital School of Practical Nursing, as an instructor in obstetrics. She was instrumental in the establishment of the School. Survived by two sons, Herman E. (Skip) Seiser III of Los Angeles, CA, Robert D. Seiser of New Jersey; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Joan) Crock of Louisville; a brother, Bernard Schrader of Richmond, CA. Preceded in death by a sister, Theodosia J. Soehnlen; five brothers, Thomas, Raymond, Joseph, Amedus and Robert. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, American Legion Post #44 and Mercy Hospital Alumni Assoc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with burial in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Church, 726 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44702 or to St. Joseph Care Center, 2308 Reno Dr. NE, Louisville, OH 44641.

Clayton F. Malone
Clayton F. Malone, age 76, died February 2, 2002 in Vero Beach, FL., at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 2, 1925 in Grosse Pointe, MI., the sixth of nine children, to the late Frank and Armonde Malone. He retired to Vero Beach in 1989 after residing in Canton, OH for over 55 years. Mr. Malone graduated from St. John's High School in Canton and attended both Ohio and Marquette Universities. He also served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Mr. Malone was employed by the M. Conley Co., retiring after 40 years in Industrial Sales where he also served as a Director and Vice-President. Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of 53 years; three children, Breen and his wife, Joan of Canton, OH., Joan of Charlotte, NC., Mark of Palm Springs, CA; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Betsy of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving is one sister, Kathleen (Mrs. John Greer) of Magnolia, OH; and one brother, Dr. Robert E. Malone of Healdsburg, CA. Mr. Malone was predeceased by three brothers, Rev. Msgr. P. Breen Malone, Diocese of Youngstown, OH., Ret. Col. Frank J. Malone of San Antonio, TX., and John J. Malone of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Marjorie Malone of Canton, OH., Betty (Mrs. H.B. Correll) Ft. Smith, AR, and Armonde (Mrs. J.H. Finke) of Dayton, OH. At the family's request there will be no repose or visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 2 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held in Canton, OH. at a later date with interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John of the Cross Building Fund, 2355 82nd Ave., Vero Beach, FL., 32966; or to a charity of one's choice. Clayton's optimism, resilience, bravery and wit bore him a rewarding life and career He's remembered as a man who adored his family, embraced the values of acceptance and inclusion, and believed in the unfailing love of God. Arrangements are being handled by Indian River Cremation, Inc.

Donna C. Rhodes
Donna C. Rhodes, age 49, of Perry Township, passed away Monday evening at the home from an apparent heart attack. Born in East Canton on Sept. 3, 1952, she was a 1970 graduate of East Canton High School. She was a 1984 graduate of the Akron School of Nursing, where she received her LPN degree. She currently was employed as a Private Duty Nurse for Favorite Nurses and the Absolute Health Services in the Canton area. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Stamm, Sr. Survivors include her husband, C. Roger Rhodes of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Carla and Heath Oeder of Chicago, IL and Annette M. Rhodes of Perry Twp.; her mother, Margaret Stamm of Perry Twp.; a brother, Donald Stamm, Jr. of East Canton. There will be calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home on Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. There will be no funeral services as her wishes were to be cremated.

Elizabeth Petitto
Elizabeth Petitto, age 81, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning at Aultman Hospital. She was born in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Patsy and Lena Pingitore Ross, and had been a Canton resident since 1984, previously residing in Waynesburg most of her life. Elizabeth retired in 1980 from Crossroads Supermarket, after 20 years service, where she was in charge of the Produce Dept. She was a member of the Fellowship of the Little Country Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Petitto, on August 1, 1960. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jerry Leishman, with whom she had resided together for 60 years; one sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Dale Fuchs, of Alliance; three brothers, Joseph, Frank and John Ross, all of Waynesburg; a brother-in-law, Thomas Mancuso, of Waynesburg; two granddaughters, Vanessa Shortt and her husband, Gene, Vonda Moore and her husband, Mike; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Nathan Moore, and Jessica and Troy Shortt; two step-great-grandchildren, Natalie and Rachael Moore. Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Little Country Church with Rev. Dale Boston officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 7-9 p.m. at the Finefrock - Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia and Friday 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Gerald D. Graening
Gerald D. Graening, age 59, of Canal Winchester, Monday February 4, 2002 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Born June 29, 1942 in Canton, OH. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was retired from the Timken Co. and was currently employed at the Andersen's. Member of Canal Winchester VFW Post #10523. Survived by his wife of 34 years Carole Jean Craening; children, Marti Graening of Lancaster; Anthony Mustacchio, Gahanna, Andria Mustacchio, Hilliard, Todd (Susan) Mustacchio of Columbus, Ted (Laura) Mustacchio of Gilbert, AZ; father, Leroy Graening of Middlebranch, OH; brothers, David (Myra) Graening of Canton, Kenneth (Mary) Graening of Middlebranch; eight grandchildren; aunt, Alma Brodzenski of Middlebranch; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by mother, Lottie Graening. Friends may visit noon-2 p.m. Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORY, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.

Jane H. Kerr
Jane H. Kerr, age 81, of 844 Washington Street, Meadville, PA., passed away February 3, 2002 at his residence. Jane was born in Canton, OH., December 27, 1920, to the late Dr. Mark C. Kerr Sr., and Nellie Tyler. She served as Grand Marshall in 2000 of St. Patricks Day Parade. She was also a graduate of McKinley High School in Canton, and a member of St. Brigid Church, and attended Adult Educ. Courses, taught Sunday School for exceptional children at St. Brigid, former member Spencer Hospital Aux., held board membership at credit union and St. Brigid Church, life member retired Citizens Assoc., and member working Gals Golf League. She was a retired Lab Tech with Talon of 41 years, also Co/owned and managed a landscape business. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Rita Kerr O'Hara and Bernadette Kerr Rothermel; and a brother, Mark C. Kerr Jr. She is survived by a brother, Alfred F. Kerr of Massillon, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Brigid Church on Thursday February 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery West Mead Twp, PA. Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, PA 16335. Roofner-Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jean Louise Taylor
Jean Louise Taylor. Graveside services will be held in Bethlehem Cemetery, Malvern, OH at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2002 with Mr. Chris Davis officiating. Calling hours one hour prior to services at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home.

John A. Fink, Jr.
John A. Fink, Jr., age 58, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening at the home following an extended illness. Born in Canton, Feb. 20, 1943. He was a 1961 graduate of Timken High School. He was the owner operator of the USA Quickprint, which he had operated for the past ten years. He was a member of the Canton Eagles Lodge, Elks and Moose Lodges, Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, Shady Hollow Country Club, Canton Chamber of Commerce and Perry Rotary Club. John served for 35 years as a football official in Stark County and was co-founder of the Perry Midget Football League. Survivors include his wife, Judy (Rhodes) Fink of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Amy Fink of Canton, Craig and Terri Fink of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Russell, Jessica, Elise and Eva Marie Fink; three brothers, Donald Fink of Florida, Brad Fink and Canton and Mark Fink of Toledo, OH; a sister, Diana Fink of Canton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. and one hour before the services on Thursday 10-11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622.

Mack E. McKenzie
Mack E. McKenzie, age 83, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Marietta, OH on Dec. 24, 1918. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a former cab drivers and a retired Security Guard having worked at Burns Security and Buckeye Protective Service. He was a member of VFW Post #693 and a lifetime member of the Army/Navy Garrison #150. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McKenzie, July 20, 1995. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Denny and Judy McKenzie of California, Carol and Richard Lucas of Michigan, Mary Ann Smith of Michigan; two stepdaughters, Linda Fales and husband, William of Canton, Patricia Albaugh of Canton; stepson, Donald Keith of Canton; a sister, Bea Merrick of East Rochester, OH; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Sunset Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Friends may call Thursday 7-9 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc.

Nelson N. Sutton
Nelson N. Sutton, age 74, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday afternoon February 4, 2002, in the Hanover House following an extended illness. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, August 19, 1927 to his parents the late Harley and Flossie Sutton, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of Canton Drop Forge, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Sutton and his sister, Mary Jane Loudin. Survivors include his wife, Frances Sutton of the home to whom he was married 34 years; five children and their spouses, Darlene Lucas of Pickens, WV, Violet Slagle of Canton, OH, Doris and Jay Halpin of Dayton, OH, Mark and Taonie Stead of New Philadelphia, OH, Wendy and Joe McElroy of Canton, OH; one brother, Virgil Sutton of French Creek, WV; two sisters, Viola Shriver of Canton, OH, Anna Margaret Duke of Buckhannon, WV; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Derek S. Moran officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home Thursday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society for Research.

Ralph W. Walters
Ralph W. Walters. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. W. with Rev. Dr. Darrell C. Filler officiating. Interment will be in Perrysville Cemetery, Perrysville, OH. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ, 901 Tuscarawas St., E. Canton, OH 44707.

Ruth Mary Haidet
Ruth Mary Haidet, age 91, daughter of the late John and Mary (Begue) Haidet, died Monday, February 4, 2002 while residing at Rockynol Retirement Community. Born in Marlboro Twp., Miss Haidet has been an area resident for the last 20 years. In 1974 she retired as office manager for Milk Marketing Inc. (formerly, Stark Co. Milk Producers), after 43 years of service. A member of St. Sebastian Parish, she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, and St. Sebastian Seniors. Her survivors include sister, Rita LaCroix; nieces, Gail LaCroix, Marilyn (Bob) Keith, Patricia (Mike) Harris, and Denise (Mike) Mehwald; nephews, James (Gail) LaCroix, John LaCroix; nine grand nephews and grand nieces. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church of Harrisburg, OH, followed by interment at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery. There will be a memorial Mass on Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Church (8276 Nickel Plate Ave. NE, Louisville, OH 44641-9543) or to St. Sebastian Foundation (476 Mull Ave. Akron, OH 44313).

Vickie J. Gerber
Vickie J. (Black) Gerber, 40, of Dalton, died Tuesday morning, February 5, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton following a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was born in Canton on September 21, 1961, to George J. and Carol R. Black, and had lived near Kidron for the last 20 years. She was a 1979 graduate of McKinley Senior High School; and was the owner and operator of Stoney Creek Dog Grooming and Boarding; and was a Trainer for the Canton All Breed Dog Training Club. She was a member of the Sonnenberg Mennonite Church, near Kidron, Faces of Hope cancer support group, and was a volunteer for Dog Love through Summa Health Care of Akron. She was also active in 4H with her daughters. On May 23, 1981, she married Jody M. Gerber, who survives; also surviving are three daughters, Tara, Kristen and Emily Gerber all of the home; her parents of Canton; two sisters, Brenda (Dan) Shelkofsky of North Canton and Darla (Doug) Hendricks of Canton; and a niece, Ashley Hendricks. Funeral services will be held on Saturday 11 a.m. at the Sonnenberg Mennonite Church with Revs. Mike and Mattie Marie Mast officiating. Burial will in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is in charge of arrangements.

Violet J. Freitag
Violet Jacqueline Freitag, passed away suddenly on February 5, 2002, in Ft. Myers, FL. She was born in Chicago, IL, on May 4, 1925. She was a graduate of San Bernardino, California High School. Vi served her country during World War II, assembling aircraft radios at El Toro Marine
Corps Air Base where she married Master Sergeant David F. Freitag on May 20, 1944. They made their home in Canton, OH and moved to Florida in 1985. She was a member of Ft. Myers Grace Presbyterian Church, AARP chapter 1669, San Carlos Park Estevo Senior Citizens. She was formerly a member of First Christian Church and Eastern Star Lodge #190 of Canton, OH. She was owner operator of the Stark County Legal News for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Sarah Young and sister, Shirley Rivers. Vi is survived by her loving husband, David F. Freitag of the home; and two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jeanne Freitag of Canton, OH and Eric and Jennie Freitag of Glen Dale, WV; and two grandchildren, Darrin (wife Jenn) and Emily Freitag. She is also survived by sisters, Yvonne Rios, Priscilla Young and a brother, Daniel Young all of Florida. Arrangements for a Memorial Service are pending at Grace Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers, Florida.
