C. Clayton Heid
C. Clayton Heid, 78, of Dundee died Monday, July 15, 2002, in Union Hospital.
Clayton was retired from U.S. Silica at Dundee where he had worked for 27 years.
Born Sept. 30, 1923, at Dover, he was son of the late Charles and Ethel Fruchey Heid. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Albert Laubscher, an infant son, Marvin, and an infant brother, Charles.
He was a member of the Dundee Church of God, loved being outdoors and fishing with his grandson.
A medic for the Army during World War II, Clayton was a member of the 45th Infantry, which included 18 months in the European Theater.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Newton Heid, whom he wed on June 5, 1959.
Other survivors include son, Mark Heid of Dundee; grandson, Kyle Heid; step-grandson, Joshua Schlegel; sister, Phyllis and Herbert Hatcher of Dover; and four stepbrothers, Lewis, Alvin, Paul and Robert Laubscher
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18, at 1 p.m. in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Robert Riston officiating. Interment will be in the Dundee Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (today) from 6 to 9 p.m.

Irvin Yutzy
Irvin Yutzy, age 63, of Millersburg, O., died Monday evening, July 22, 2002, at the Sunset Nursing Home at Millersburg, O., following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church at Millersburg, O., with Rev. Joe Hochstetler and Myron Troyer officiating. Burial will be at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
He was born Jan. 29, 1939, in Plain City, O., and was the son of John and Lovina (Miller) Yutzy. He married Fannie Troyer, and she survives.
He was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church and the Holmes County Training Center.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children and their spouses, Juanita and James Schlabach of Montana, Kenneth and Amy Yutzy of Millersburg, O., and Keith and Jonnalee Yutzy of Millersburg, O.; 11 grandchildren, Jolene, Jeremy, Julie, Derreck, Ashley, Steven, Logan, Dakota, Gage, Savannah and Hunter; three sisters and their spouses, Mary and Ray Mullet of Geauga County, Verna and Ray Yoder of Sarasota, Fla., Wilma Yutzy of Geauga County; and one brother, Freeman and wife Rosalee Yutzy of Wooster, O.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Yutzy and Orris Yutzy.
Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pleasant View Church or the Holmes County Training Center.

Kathleen Brown
Kathleen Brown, age 80, of Millersburg, O., died Monday, July 22, 2002, at the Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, O., following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fryburg Cemetery with Rev. John Wanamaker officiating. There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg, O., is handling the arrangements.
She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Benton, O., and was the daughter of Clifford and Mabel (Rottman) Snyder. She married Earl Brown, and he preceded her in death in 1981.
She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Millersburg.
Surviving are four children, Linda Brown of Benton, O., Brenda Brown of Canton, O., Mike Brown and Gary Brown, both of Benton, O., and three grandchildren, Tana, Brandon and Jeremy.
Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, 187 S. Clay St., Millersburg, O. 44654, or Gospel Haven Church, 6871 State Rt. 241, Millersburg, O. 44654.

Wilma B. Baker
Wilma B. Baker, 99, of Gnadenhutten died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in Twin City Hospital at Dennison, O.
She was born June 3, 1903, in Cadiz Junction, O., a daughter of the late Frank Arthur Liggett and Nora Dell Penn Liggett. In 1922, she married George M. Baker, now deceased.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Carol Baker, of the home; two grandsons, Rick and Melissa Baker of Bolivar and Charlie and Kathy Baker of Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Mrs. Barry (Christy) Walker of Gnadenhutten; 10 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ong of Dennison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Arthur Liggett; her mother, Nora Dell Liggett; her husband, George M. Baker; a son, Charles F. Baker; a granddaughter, Shirley I. Baker; brothers, Percy Ray. Harry Doyle, Bert Penn, George “Skeet” Wayne, Frank Arthur and William McDonald Liggett; also two sisters, Edith Marie Liggett and Winifred Irene Krebs.
She was a life resident of this area and attended the First Assembly of God at New Philadelphia. She enjoyed making beaded necklaces and ornaments and loved crocheting. Wilma had worked at the Scio Pottery for 25 years and had been a loving wife, mother and homemaker totally devoted to her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison, O., with Pastor Larry Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday (today), Oct. 14, 2002, in R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God at New Philadelphia.

Patricia Diegmiller
Patricia M. Diegmiller, 67, of New Philadelphia died Monday, July 22, 2002, in Morning View Care Center at New Philadelphia following a brief illness.
Born May 4, 1935, in Barnesville, she was a daughter of Kathryn Palmer Hoskinson of Massillon and the late William Hoskinson. Patricia was a graduate of Barnesville High School. She married Paul W. Diegmiller on May 5, 1956. Paul died in 1994. Patricia was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Bruce (Susan) Diegmiller of Uhrichsville, Brian Diegmiller of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jay (Deborah) Diegmiller and Paul Diegmiller, both of New Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dietra (Greg) Mann of Orrville; four brothers, Bill Hoskinson of Massillon, Roy (Sheila) Hoskinson of Canton, Thomas (Jamie) Hoskinson of South Carolina, and Eugene (Gloria) Hoskinson of Perry Heights; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Marian E. Rosenbery
Marian E. Rosenbery, 86, a resident of Henderson, Nev., and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at the Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born Feb. 15, 1916, in New Philadelphia, the only child to the late Carl B. and Verna M. Milliner Kratz.
She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1934. On June 26, 1937 she married George W. “Boots” Rosenbery (a former City of New Philadelphia Service Director), who preceded her in death on July 22, 1994. For many years Marian managed the Reeves Hotel and the Delphian Motor Inn. She was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Tuscarawas County Duplicate Bridge Club.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Jill Rosenbery, of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons Brad, Brian and Jeffery Bower; and great-granddaughters Colleen, Crystal and Melissa. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Luthy.
The memorial service will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Rev. Richard V. Powell II officiating. Burial will follow at East Ave. Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Larry V. Troyer
Larry V. Troyer, 48, died Sunday morning, Oct. 13, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital from complications stemming from a motorcycle accident in September 2001.
A lifelong resident of Holmes and Tuscarawas counties, he was born Jan. 9, 1954, to the (late) Vernon B. Troyer and Esther Troyer of Millersburg. He was a self-employed cabinet installer.
Larry was a member of the Tuscarawas Riders Assn.
Surviving are his son, Eric, and daughter, Michelle Troyer of New Philadelphia; his mother, Esther Troyer of Millersburg; one brother, Allen (Pam) Troyer of Millersburg; three sisters, Ruby Schlabach of Walnut Creek, Rhoda (Mervin) Yoder of Millersburg and Wilma (Steve) Miller of Berlin.
In addition to his father, two brothers, Wayne and Willis Troyer, and two sisters, Mary and Miriam Troyer, preceded Larry in death.
Friends may call Monday (today), Oct. 14, at Grace Mennonite Church on County Rd. 77 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Grace Mennonite Church, officiated by Larry Kauffman and Levi Sommers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Alexander Funeral Home at Millersburg, O., is handling the arrangements.

Kenneth W. Crowl
Kenneth Wayne (Sterling) Crowl, 42, of Waynesburg died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in the Arbors of Canton following a long illness.
Born in Canton Oct. 2, 1960, he was the son of the late Kenneth Ray Crowl Sr., who died June 28, 2001, and Doris Roush Weir of Malvern. He was a gifted artist who loved gardening. He was also a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Panama invasion.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tracy Lewis of the home; a son, Kenneth (Roseanna) W. Crowl Jr., and a daughter, Sarina (Brad) Crowl, both of West Plains, Mo.; stepsons, Kenneth Dean Wigfield and Jake Wigfield of Waynesburg; son, Lucas T. Cook, and daughter, Loreal A. Cook of Texas; and son, Casey W. Crowl of the home; sisters, Sharon K. Proudfoot of Carrollton, Dolores P. LeBeau of Kernersville, N.C., Wendyjo Kilby of Chloe, W.Va., Rebekah L. Henry of Carrollton and Leah R. Betts of Springfield, Mo.; and grandfather, Homer G. Roush of Berne, Ind. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a brother, John Wesley Crowl.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday (today), Oct. 14, 2002, in the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home at Malvern with Mr. Derrick Oesch officiating. Calling hours will be held one hour before services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

E. Helen Cecil
E. Helen Cecil, 83, of 215 Park Dr., Gnadenhutten, O., died at her home on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002.
Born at Uhrichsville (Roanoke), O., March 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Roy Allen Reed and Ethel Baltzell Reed.
Helen was an 83-year member of the First Christian Church at Uhrichsville. Her life was her church, and she received the highest honor as Elder Emeritus of the church board. Helen was also a member of the Daughters of Rebekah Lodge and for many years was a volunteer for the Twin City Hospital Coffee Bar. She graduated from Uhrichs-ville High School Class of 1937. Helen was a homemaker and lifelong area resident.
Helen was married Sept. 2, 1939, to James A. Cecil, who died March 16, 1988. Surviving are three daughters and one son, Ardath (William) Croniser of Dennison, O., Evelyn (James) Long of Gnadenhutten, O., Kathryn (Roy) Lamberton of Seaford, Del., Allen (Terri) Cecil of Dennison, O; one sister, Louise (Rev. Rayvon) Hilliard of Danville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services for Helen will be held Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church at Uhrichs-ville with Rev. Harold Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville. Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Uhrich-Hostettler Funeral Home at Uhrichsville.
Memorials may be given to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 125 N. Uhrich St., Uhrichsville, O. 44683, or Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, O. 44622.

William B. Parrish
William “Bill” B. Parrish, 71, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly Friday, October 25, 2002.
Born Sept. 21, 1931, in Kokomo, Ind., he was a son of the late Austin and Lois Sanders Parrish.
Bill graduated from Kokomo High School in 1949 and attended Ohio State University until he joined the United States Marines in 1951. During his active duty, he was a member of the Marine Band, and was stationed in Quantico, Va. until his discharge in 1954.
Bill was a member of the Whitehall Masonic Lodge No. 761, F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and the Aladdin Shrine, Columbus, O. Bill was a talented musician, having played many times for our community during the last five years in the big band Recollections. He was also a member of the Marine Corp League, the DeLorean Club of Ohio and was a supporting member of the National Corvette Museum.
Bill worked in sales and engineering for Dover Conveyor.
He is survived by his wife, Bette Jane Parrish, whom he married June 10, 1983; three daughters, Holly Stell-Mantei and Cherie (Bruce) Smith, both of Sawyer, Mich., and Stephanie Abreu of Hudson, Fla.; two sons, Todd Parrish of Katy, Texas, Kevin (Mary) Parrish of Tampa, Fla.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene (Bob) McDaniel of Redding, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Parrish of Kokomo, Ind.; and a very special cat, Miss Topaz.
In addition to his parents, a daughter Vicki Mantei, and granddaughter Morgan Stell preceded him in death.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Parrish will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 p.m. in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. A meal will be served in the Geib Family Center following the service.
Friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, anytime after 2 p.m. at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the start of the funeral service. Those unable to attend are invited to express condolences, sign an online guestbook and visit a memorial of Mr. Parrish on the funeral home’s Web site.
At a later time, cremation will be conducted locally through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.

Dave “Bub” Edwards
Dave “Bub” Edwards, 72, of Strasburg died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness.
He retired from his family business, Edward’s Trucking in Strasburg, after spending his entire life in the trucking business.
Born April 17, 1930, in Dover, he was a son of the late John and Mae Westbrook Edwards Sr.
A 1948 graduate of Dover High School, he was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg where he served on church council. He was also a member of Strasburg Lions Club and the Newcomerstown Elks, as well as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. His favorite pastimes included building and flying model airplanes, traveling, camping and boating.
Dave is survived by his wife Carol Lauber Edwards with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage on April 22, 2002.
He is also survived by three sons, Rick (Susan) Edwards of Strasburg, Steve (Renee) Edwards of Glasgow, Ky., and Bob Edwards of Strasburg; two brothers, John (Dorothy) Edwards Jr. of Dover and James “Pete” Edwards of Dover; a sister, Virginia “Tootie” Wilcoxon of Dover; and six grandchildren, Joey Godsey, Justin, Rob, Chris, Angela and Amy Edwards.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. in the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg with Rev. Gerald Schuessler officiating. Interment will be at Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Dave may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral home’s Web site.

Jeanette Jean Jenkins
Miss Jeanette Jean Jenkins, 84, of Dover died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in New Philadelphia to the late L. Charles and Elizabeth A. Wassem Jenkins.
Jeanette graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1935 and attended Kent State University, Tuscarawas campus. She took flying lessons at the New Philadelphia Airport in 1941 under the government’s Civilian Pilot Training program, which was conducted by Harry Clever. Jeanette was Tuscarawas County’s only World War II WASP (Women’s Air Force Service Pilots) and served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1944. Following the war, she worked for the Timken Co., retiring in 1978 after 24 years service.
Among her activities, she served for 14 years on the airport commission, was a life member of the “99’s” (International Women Pilot Organization), life member of the Dover Historical Society and the Tuscarawas County Historical Society and a member of the American Legion. She also served as president of the Dover-New Philadelphia BPW Club.
Jeanette is survived by two nephews, Tom (Mary) Long of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Steve (Gloria) Long of Vancouver, Wash. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Annabel Long.
The graveside service will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia with Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. Military burial rites will be presented by the New Philadelphia VFW Post No. 1445. Following the service a luncheon will be shared in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home.
