Betty Jane Glaus
Betty Jane Glaus, age 79, of Minerva, died of complications following heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on March 24, 2001. She was born September 29, 1921 in Ashtabula, OH. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel (Bliss) Kochenderfer. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Thomas.
Many people will remember Betty's easy smile and friendliness from Glaus Bros. Clothiers in Minerva. Betty and Bob operated the store for 31 years and retired in 1984. In retirement, Betty enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her close friends, enjoying family including visiting her son and his family in Arizona, playing with her great-nieces and nephews.
Betty was a long time member of Sans Souci and a devoted volunteer for the Red Cross. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Minerva.
Betty will be sadly missed by her husband of 58 years, Robert; son, Gregg; daughter-in-law, Darline; grandson, A.J. of Sierra Vista, AZ; her sister, Donna Thompson of Houston, TX; her extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church of Minerva, Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Heart Association or the Alliance Minerva Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Birdine C. Clark
Birdine C. Clark , age 97, of Canton died Saturday evening in Canton Regency. Born November 15, 1903, in Canton, to the late John A. and Leona Reemsnyder. She was a member of Lowell United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Russell Allen Clark on April 22, 1981; four sisters; seven brothers; and one grandson, Jeffery Russell Corbit. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Donald W. and Nikki L. Clark of Canton; and one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley J. and Dick Corbit of Canton; seven grandchildren, Roberta Lynn Pickens, Darlene Fleishour, Susan Mairiello, Rick Corbit, Karen Morrish, Kelly Kendrick and Christine Davis; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Ft. Laurens Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating.

Bonnie Benson
Bonnie Jean Benson, age 49, of Barnesville, OH, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at her home. Friends will be received Monday 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. till time of service at 1 p.m. at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 702 E. Main St., Barnesville, OH. Burial follows in Chestnut Level Cemetery, Belmont, OH.

Carl W. Hasseman
Carl W. Hasseman, age 81 of North Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning in the Manor Care Health Services following a brief illness. Born in Canton on October 14, 1919 he was a retired employee of the Timken Co. where he had worked and served loyally for 42 years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Hasseman; and a sister, Margaret Hasseman. Survivors include his wife, Louava Hasseman of the home, to whom he would be married 62 years on April 1, 2001; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Linda Hasseman of Gallipolis, OH, Brian and Janice Hasseman of Fairfield, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette and Todd Polen of Minerva, OH, Laura and Werner Sonntag of Brecksville, OH; there are six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Hasseman of Canton; and two sisters, Catherine Hasseman of Canton and Mildred Hubbard of Dellroy, OH. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Dana Gammill officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m.

Carol Ann Walker
Carol Ann Kosunick - Scott - Walker, tragically taken too soon will spend eternity in heaven with angels, watching over us. Survived by her son, James Scott; daughter, Stacy Scott; mother, Ruby Kosunick; brothers, Joe and Steve Kosunick; nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law and many many friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Come join us to say goodbye. Casual dress would be very appropriate. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas Dyer officiating. Dorothy J. Evans
Dorothy Jean (Greer) Evans. Nanny requested no flowers, rather, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Dueber United Methodist Church. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Tuesday (today) 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The service of Christian Resurrection will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Chester Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Earl D. Creighton. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Oliver Nealy officiating. Burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Aultman Hospice Program.

Geraldine DeVault
Geraldine E. DeVault, age 79, formerly of Carrollton, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in Canterbury Villa in Alliance after a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1921 in Byesville, OH, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Margaret Watson Clark. She had worked at the former Carrollton Graphics and she was a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary of Carrollton. She is survived by two sons, Jerome McCoy of Minerva and Douglas DeVault of Rootstown; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death in 1982 by her husband, Donald DeVault, who she married in 1951, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. David Blood officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be 11-12 on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harold E. Davis
Harold E. Davis. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Formet Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 7-9 p.m.

Irene Minnie Rollins
Irene Minnie Rollins. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Norman Dew officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., and one half hour before the services Wednesday at the Church.

Jenny Goncalves
Jenny Gomes Goncalves, age 78, passed away on March 24, 2001 at Akron General Medical Center. She was born in Wareham, MA and had lived in the Canton community since 1960. She worked and retired from Ohio Bell. She became a member of Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late Pastor Lee Nucklos. Mrs. Goncalves was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Goncalves; son, Joseph Goncalves II; brother, Jimmy; sisters, Dominga, Nanna, Mary and Lucy. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Peter Pina, Orlando (Sheilah) Goncalves, both of Canton, Michael (Kathy) Goncalves of Sandusky, OH; daughter, Darlene Curry of Canton; sister, Ida; brothers, Johnny, Tony and Manny, all of Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 1 p.m. at the Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. where Pastor Cecil Everett will be officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the time of service. Condolences may be sent to and procession will form at 707 Henrietta Ave. NE, Canton. Interment at West Lawn Cemetery.

John R. Mayer Sr.
John R. Mayer Sr., age 60, of Canton, died Sunday in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Son of the late Floyd L. and Virginia K. (May) Mayer Sr. He was a life resident of the Canton area, retiring from the Timken Co. in 1991 after 31 years of service. He had served as a volunteer with the Canton Township Fire Department, Waco Station #2. He was also a life long farmer. Member of Moreland Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Trustee. A 1958 graduate of Canton South High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Stephen) Mayer, to whom he was married 40 years; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Joyce Mayer Jr. of East Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynnette and Rich McBride of Canton; four grandchildren, Nathan and Seth Mayer of East Canton, Ashley and Arieann McBride of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Eva Mayer Jr. of Canton; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jim King of East Canton; several nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Moreland Christian Church with Gene Carter officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call one hour (12-1 p.m.) before services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Mary B. Newcomb
Mary B. Newcomb, age 87, of Canton, Ohio passed away Sunday afternoon in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on January 8, 1914 she had been a resident of the Canton area for the past 55 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Newcomb who passed away November 22, 1991. Surivovrs include her son, Peter J. Newcomb of North Canton and her daughter, Patricia S. Lawrence of Las Vegas, NV; two granddaughters, Elizabeth S. Snyder of Columbus and Jennifer E. Cundiff of Reynoldsburg, OH; two great grandsons, Justin L. Sabo of Novi, MI and Joshua T. Cundiff of Reynoldsburg, OH. Private graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. There will be no calling hours and the Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary C. Moser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. James A. Clarke officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Karlo Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, 241 S. Main St., North Canton, Oh 44720.

Miriam R. Cullen. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 2:00 PM in the North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum with Rev. Glen Osborn officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Faith Community Church, 4301 Cleveland Ave., NW, Canton, OH 44709.

Phlora E. Cooper
Phlora E. Cooper, age 77, of Canton, beloved wife and mother died Monday morning March 26, 2001 at Aultman Hospital after a full life of homemaking, gardening, cam-ping and enjoying country and gospel music. Though in her last years medical problems prevented her from doing most of her activities, she still could laugh and express her love in many ways. Preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Jasper Perry and Julia (Perry) Fout of the Portsmouth, OH area. Dell had nine full and half brothers and sisters; step brothers and one step sister. All are deceased except, Minnie Strang of Wheellersburg, OH and Carol Sue Fout Kimberly of Clovis, CA. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Cecil E. (Coop) Cooper; one daughter, Judi and her husband, J. Mike Grindel; one granddaughter, Trace Grindel; one grandson, John J. Grindel; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and members of the Salt Fork Resort, Buckett Hill, who were good friends with our parents. Mom and Dad surely enjoyed camping with you. Also thanks to Aultman Hospital 5 North and 4 East for the wonderful care they gave Mom and the kindness that was shown to her. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Melcher Funeral Home, Portsmouth, OH. Burial will be in Garvin Cemetery. Calling hours in the Reed Funeral Home, Wednesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday in the Melcher Funeral Home 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Robert H. Frederick
Robert Harry Frederick, age 76, of 109 Scurrey Court, Clarkesville, GA, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, following an extended illness. Mr. Frederick was born in Stark County, OH on May 15, 1924 to the late George Casper and Rosa Amelia Vossick Frederick. He was retired from Eastern Airlines having served in a management capacity. Mr. Frederick was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie James Frederick of the home; two daughters, Sandra Fulton of Huntersville, NC, Pamela Frederick of Lathonia, GA; one son, Robert James Frederick of Cumming, GA; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece, Arleene Wharton of Canton, OH. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 1 p.m. from the Hamby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sheila Bookout-Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. Entombment will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Anderson, SC. Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia, GA is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald H. Potts, D.D.S.
Ronald H. Potts, D.D.S., of North Canton, died early Saturday morning in his home surrounded by his family. Dr. Potts practiced dentistry in Canton for over 30 years. Along with his brother, he operated and enjoyed the Potts Tree Farm in Holmes Co. Part of the legacy he leaves is an interest in the people around him and his love for nature. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Rd., Akron, OH 44313. Dr. Potts is survived by his wife, Margaret; brother, Richard (Carol); children, Ashley, Brian (Beth), Eileen; grandson, Henry. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.

Rose Marie Wooley
Rose Marie Reinhart Wooley, born in Canton to Joseph and Mildred Reinhart in 1925, died in Boulder City, NV on March 10, 2001. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Dick W. Reinhart; and sister, Betty Lightbody. Survived by husband, Jack; daughters and sons-in-law, Marina and Mick Wilcox, Luann and Barry Keeling; five grandchildren, all of Nevada; sister, Josephine Beighley; sister-in-law, Nancy Reinhart; many relatives and friends, all of Canton. Services were in Boulder City.

Verna L. Allen
Verna L. Allen, age 80, of Massillon, died Sunday morning at her home. Her death followed a brief illness. She was born on January 5, 1921 in Canton and was the daughter of the late George and Cora (Henderson) Croft. She was an area resident all of her life. She had been employed as a bank teller for various banks in the area. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist and had been a member of the McDowell Club in Canton. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles M. Allen; her daughter and son-in-law, Naomi L. and Kim Harpel of North Canton; her son and daughter-in-law, David C. and Kathi Allen of Massillon; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step grandchildren; and her sister, Grace Robinson of North Canton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Burrier. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. O.J. Thompson and Reader Perry Ballinger officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday one hour before the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Aultman Hospice.
