Carl W. Streb, age 81, of Massillon, died Thursday at Aultman Hospital following a sudden illness. He was a retired co-owner/operator of Streb Meats. Preceded in death by his parents, Victor G. and Erna B. (Beiter) Streb and a brother, Arnold. He is survived by wife, Joan, to whom he had been married 57 years; daughter, Carla Miller of Hartville; son, Timothy Streb of East Canton; brother, James Streb of Dalton; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park where private services will be held at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 226 Third St. SE, Massillon, OH 44646.

Emma Mohler
Emma Mohler, 86, a resident of Port Charlotte, FL, and former resident of Lake Placid, FL and Hartville, OH, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital. Born July 22, 1914, in Dixon, IL, she moved to Hartville, OH, and then to Lake Placid, FL, and recently to Port Charlotte, FL. She is survived by her husband, Archie; two daughters, Barbara Janes and husband, Dick, of Jensen Beach, FL, and Treva Bufmeyer and husband, Gary, of Southern Pines, NC; three sons, Dallas and wife, Kay of Port Charlotte, FL, Tom and wife, Jan, of Big Fork, MT, and Marlan and wife, Denise of Hartville, OH; two brothers, Roy Luthie and wife, Evelyn of Louisville, OH, and Eddie Luthie and wife, Margaret, of St. Cloud, FL; and one sister, Alice Norton of North Canton, OH; 17 grandchildren; 23 great -grandchildren. Memorial ser-vices were held Friday April 13, at Scott Funeral Home in Lake Placid, FL. Arrangements are under the care of Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid, FL.

Frank Grosschmidt
Frank W. Grosschmidt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with Msgr. Frank A. Carfagna as celebrant and Fr. Tim Huffman as concelebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 4-7 p.m. in the Don Williams Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.

Gloria A. Brown
Gloria A. (Aventino Bell) Brown, age 76, of Canton, died Friday afternoon in McKinley Health Care Center. A member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert E. Bell in 1961 and her second husband, Robert J. Brown in 1999, 14 brothers and sisters. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Rebecca Bell of Canton, Thomas and Joyce Bell of Leavenworth, KS; a stepson and his wife, Herbert A. and Jennie Bell of Canton; a sister, Mary Metzer of Marion; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Rev. Fr. Don Oser officiating. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, charity or hospice of your choice.

Gordon L. Cook, Jr.
Gordon L. Cook, Jr., age 75, of Canton, unexpectedly passed away in the early morning hours of April 13, 2001. Gordon was born in Canton on July 24, 1925. He was one of eight children in the home of Gordon Sr. and Mary Catherine Cook. His sisters, Claira and Francis (deceased), and his brothers, William, Walter, Frank (deceased), Louis (deceased), and James (deceased) were each very special to Gordon. He took great pride in his siblings as well as his many nieces and nephews. Gordon graduated from Canton Mc-Kinley High School in 1945, where he was a superior athlete. In addition to lettering in football, basketball, and baseball, Gordon made All Ohio in football his junior year. After high school, Gordon joined the Army where he was promoted to Sergeant in the Military Police. He was honored with a World War II Victory Metal. Gordon married Agnes Bagnoli in 1953 and they were together for 39 years until her passing in 1992. He retired from Republic Steel in 1992 after 30 years of hard work. Gordon's profound love for his family will always be remembered. He will be missed by his two sons; two sons-in-law; three daughters and daughter-in-law, Greg Cook, Paula Cook, Brian and Valerie Cook, Cecilia and Ted Adams, and Laurie and Scott Dale. His five grandchildren, Nathaial and Christopher Adams, Ashley, Aaron and Austin Dale will always remember his sky-blue eyes and quick laugh. We will all miss him from the coast of South Carolina to the beaches of Hawaii. If there is a seashore in heaven, Gordon and Agnes Cook are now walking it together, once again, and for always. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church with Msgr. John Finnigan as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 6-9 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to MDDR Assoc. in his memory.

J. C. Bowling
J. C. Bowling, age 63, of Canton, passed away suddenly at work Tuesday morning. Born in Red Bird, KY, he was the son of the late Woodrow Bowling and his mother, Martha Bowling of Big Creek, KY. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked at W.L. Logan Trucking Co. for 11 years and was an independent truck driver for five years prior. He attended The Church Of The First Born. Also preceded in death by two brothers. In addition to his mother, he survived by his wife, Linda, to whom he was married 39 years; two children and their spouses, Tamara and Douglas Webb, Michael and Karri Bowling; three grandchildren, Zara Jade, Tessa Blake, Alexandra Paige and one on the way!; three brothers five sisters; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home ALL DAY Monday where the family will be present from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

John G. Karvounides
John G. Karvounides, age 71, of Canton, passed away early Saturday morning in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. A full obit and services will be published in Monday's paper. The Rossi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Reed
John Red Reed. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Deb Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home Sunday (tonight) 6-9 p.m.

Justin Wilson Laird
Justin Wilson Laird. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.

Laverta Close
Laverta Close. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Friends may call Monday (tonight) 6-8 p.m.

Margaret A. Maxin
Margaret A. Maxin, age 76, of Louisville, went home to Heaven to be with Our Lord on Saturday (April, 14,2001) morning after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, October 30, 1924 to the late Michael and Mary (Babjack) Fador. Margaret retired from Kmart and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Canton and UCT Canton Council #41. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Beloved wife and best friend of David. Also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Kramer of Canton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Daniel Elseser of Canton, Gloria Cuerbo of Louisville; grandchildren, Davey Kramer II, Augustine (Gus) Cuerbo, Tiffany Elseser, whose loving care and devotion helped make her final days easier; Laura Elseser, Jim Leonard and E.J. Pruitt; two sisters, Helen Mueller of Beaver, PA and Betty O'Leay of West Mifflin, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. John Zuzik officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville. She will lay in Peace at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton. She will be loved and missed.

Mary Louise Bauer
Mary Louise Bauer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. at the Formet - Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home.

Norma Jean Vernon
Norma Jean Sally Vernon, died at home on April 9, 2001. She was born in Canal Fulton, Ohio, the daughter of Alva and Opal Parcher Gordon. Surviving Sally is her husband, CDR Everett L. Mickey Vernon, USN Ret.; daughters, Susan Whitlow and husband, Lee, Pamela Peaks and husband Eric, residents of Durham; two grandchildren, Eric Jr. and Dawn Peaks; brothers, Marvin Gordon and wife, Marietta of Scottsdale, Arizona, Melvin Gordon and wife, Marge of Akron, Ohio. As a Navy Wife Mrs. Vernon traveled extensively and has lived in the Philippines and Japan. She and her husband came to Chapel Hill in 1971 where they became avid Carolina Fans. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 20, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. at Olin T. Binkley Memorial Baptist Church. Arrangements by Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, NC. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of North Carolina.

Raymond F. Linsenbigler
Raymond F. 'Little Ray' Linsenbigler, age 82, passed away Thursday evening April 12, 2001, at Hennis Nursing Home in Bolivar. He was born in Pennsylvania on December 27, 1918 but lived most of his life in North Industry. Survived by his mother, Effie Linsenbigler and a sister, Ruth Calhoun both of Canton; one son, Charles of Berlin, OH; daughter, Candi Sparks of Canton; four granddaughters, Tasha of Cincinnati, Bobbi of Canton, Melisha of New Philadelphia, and Jennifer of Missouri; one grandson, Brock of Magnolia; three great grandchildren; and three step grandsons; three nieces; and three nephews; plus other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his father, Ralph, brother, Roy and granddaughter, Erika. He was formerly employed by Joe Joe Construction Company and Stark Security and Logan Trucking. He was a World War II Army veteran and served at Pearl Harbor. Raymond was an active member of the Sandy Valley Eagles Aerie #3228, the DAV on 17th St. in Canton, American Legion Post 44 and was an active member of the Father Son Sportsman Club in Pike Twp. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Stephen Kimbrel officiating. Burial in Melscheimer Cemetery where there will be a Military Graveside service. Friends may call Monday 11-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Robert W. Teis
Robert W. Teis, age 83, of Canton, passed away Saturday April 14, 2001, at the Doctors Hospital, after a brief illness. A lifetime resident of Canton, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. A former employee of the Timken Company, retiring in 1980. A member of Church of the Covenant, Loyal Order of the Moose Canton Lodge #233, VFW Floyd Hughes Post #693, American Legion Canton Post #44 and the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Annetta (Seikel) Teis and a sister, Romona Teis. Survived by his wife, Isabelle Teis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. and Barbara Teis Jr. of Michigan, Gerald E. and Jill Teis of New Jersey; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepdaughters, Sandra Anthony of Florida and Michelle Radtke of Massillon; one step grandchild; two step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Entombment at North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Moose Pilgrim Services Monday 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Mooseheart Children's Home of Aurora, IL.

Rudy M. Lapikas
Rudy M. Lapikas, age 85, of Massillon, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center. Services are pending at the Heitger Funeral Home Service, Massillon Chapel.

Russell B. Frank
Russell B. Frank, age 72, of Jackson Township, died Tuesday, in the home in which he was born, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. His parents were the late Leo and Edna Boron Frank. He lived his entire life on the farm which had previously been owned and farmed by his father and grandfather. Farming was his passion, having been in the Dairy Business in his younger years, and more recently had a beef and grain operation. He was also employed for 19 years at the Kent State University Stark Branch, retiring in 1986 as Building and Grounds Superintendent. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with a gentle spirit and a true love of God and his Catholic Faith. Russell and his wife enjoyed 25 years of Western Square Dancing in the area. He was a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Eugenia (Genie) Gill Frank; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Les Moor, and Melissa and Bradley Metzger, all of Jackson Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judith Frank of Dalton, OH; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Heather Moore, Jordan and Megan Metzger and Brian and Sarah Frank; a sister, Catherine Werner of Jackson Township; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Wilma Frank of Jackson Township, Leo and Wilma Frank and Donald and Elizabeth Frank all of Lawrence Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Leo Wehrlin as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Sunday (today) 5-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home and Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Sam R. Seikel
Sam R. Seikel, age 76, of 12059 Mill Race St., Canal Fulton, OH, and a former Dover resident died Friday at Aultman Hospital. Sam was retired from the US Dept. of Defense. Survivors include his wife, Colleen and two sons, Peter of Shawnee, OK and Joseph of Huntsville, AL. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover. The family will receive friends Monday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Winifred I. Swihart
Winifred I. Brownie Kannel Swihart, age 82, of North Canton, passed on Friday at Massillon Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Massillon, Oct. 9, 1918 to the late William and Emma (Getz) Kannel and had lived most of her life in Stark Co., she was a loving Mom, Grandmother and Aunt whose pain is over, but whose spirit lives on. Brownie was a member of Brookside Country Club, graduate of Massillon Washington High School and had volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry M. Swihart (1987); son, William B. McLain (1993); brothers, Ross and William Kannel; and sisters, Mabel Moore, Doris Frola and Violet Blackmer. She is survived by daughter, Mrs. Keith (Sara) Guptill of Northfield, OH; son, Tim S. Swihart of Akron, OH; grandson, Jamey Smith; sister-in-law, Virginia Kannel of Massillon; nephews, Donald Steely of Florida, William Kannel of Massillon and Gary Andears of Florida; nieces, Carol Ortiz of Massillon and Susan Kannel of Denver, CO and a godson, Craig Ortiz. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle, Massillon, with Rev. Carolyn L. Griffeth officiating. There will be one hour of calling prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Massillon. Memorial donations may be made to the Springhill Historic Home or the Salvation Army.
