Albert J. Swad
Albert J. Swad, age 78, of Mesquite, TX, passed away March 18, 2001. Born in Martins Ferry, OH., September 1, 1922. He was a veteran of WWII from 1940 to 1945 in the 82nd Airborne Parachuting Classes in England. He received a Bronze Star in European African Middle Eastern Medal and many other medals. Preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Albert Sr. Swad; and a brother, Kenneth of Fort Myers, FL. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Verna A. Swad of Massillon, OH; his son, Antonio and his wife Bernadette of Sunnyvale, TX; a daughter, Shirley of Leesburg, FL; two step-daughters, Hala and her husband George Shearer of Massillon, OH., Susan and her husband, Larry Pitts of New Philadelphia, OH; and one step-son, Russell and his wife, Lisa K. of Grandville, OH. He leaves four grandsons; and one granddaughter; three brothers, Bill Swad of Stuart, FL, Charles Swad of Obetz, OH., and Eugene Swad of Gaffney of S.C.; one sister, Betty Heid of New Philadelphia, OH; one step granddaughter, Lisa of Grove City, OH; one step-grandson, Richard of Grandville, OH; six great grandchildren; one step-great grandson, Jason of Grove City, OH; he also leaves to cherish his memories of the last four years to his granddaughter, Vincenza (Vinni) Swad of Sunnyville, TX; many nieces and nephews. Albert was cremated in Texas on March 20, 2001.

Alice M. Cosentino
Alice M. (Brighenti) Cosentino, age 76, of Canton, passed away Thursday evening in Arbors of Canton after a brief illness. She was a life resident of Canton. Member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of TOPPS. She was a retired employee of Kroger's Supermarket, employed for 15 years as a cashier. Survived by her husband, Joseph Cosentino, to whom she was married 42 years; one brother, George Brighenti and one sister, Caroline Brighenti, both of Canton; three nephews, Denny Interliggi, Don and Joe Brighenti; two nieces, Mary Hammond and Sandy Emsweller. Preceded in death by her parents, Don and Mary Brighenti; a sister, Delores Interliggi. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop as celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rossi Funeral Home Monday 9-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.

Charles R. Bachtel
Charles R. Bachtel, age 78, of Canton, OH, passed away suddenly on Friday morning. Born in Canton on May 3, 1922, he was the son of the late, Ethel and Ray Bachtel. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired employee of Canton Drop Forge, retiring in 1984 after 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by three brothers, his sister and his wife, Edna Mae Bachtel who passed away October 10, 1989. As his hobby he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his son, Charles W. Bachtel of Canton and daughter, Sally L. Richeson of Canton; two sisters; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Tucker officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening 7-9 p.m.

Chauncey 'Chan' Young
Chauncey F.A. 'Chan' Young, age 82, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning after a brief illness. A graduate of McKinley High School, he retired from the Canton City Board of Education in 1983 after 30 years of service. A veteran of W.W. II, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Born in Fairhope, OH, he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was the son of the late Pearl and Royal Young. Also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister. Survived by his wife, Alverta, to whom he was married 54 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and James Thompson of Kentucky, Beth and James Turner of Canton; brother, Dale Young of Massillon; 9 grandchildren, Tammy, James, Alissa, Fred, Jon, Danielle, Jessica, Abigail, Jennifer; 5 great grandsons. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Monday 6-9 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials be made to Bethel Lutheran Church.

Donald E. Kee
Donald Edward Kee, age 63, of Clinton, passed away April 19, 2001. He was born in Sawyerwood, OH, and had retired from United Parcel Service, where he worked as a mechanic. Don was a member of Grace United Church of Christ of Uniontown, #770 FAM Hoover Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Akron and was an Army veteran. Preceded in death by a son, John, mother and father, Ethel and Carl Kee, sister, Eleanor. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley; son, Eddie (Diane); daughter, Tami (Chris) Clark; brothers, Dennis (Jean), Duane (Jane) and John (Victoria); sisters, Iva (Mike) McParlane, Marcella (Gerald) Monter and Judy (Jim) Jennings; grandchildren, Noah Edward Kee and Benjamin Roy, Jacob Edward and Alice Catherine Clark; and many loving nieces; nephews and friends. the family will receive friends Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown with Masonic Services beginning at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 12 Noon at the Grace Untied Church of Christ of Uniontown with Rev. Richard F. Beck officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the church.

Elinor L. Sautters
Elinor L. Sautters, age 84, of North Canton, OH, passed away Friday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Canton on Jan. 27, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Helen Davis. She was a 1935 graduate of McKinley High School and was a former Assistant Librarian in the Canton Public School System, retiring in 1979. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Canton and for many years had been an avid tennis player. Survivors include her husband, Robert Sautters of the home and to whom she had been married for 59 years on Aug. 17, 2000; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and H.A. Rennecker of North Canton and Jane and James Meyer of Mansfield, OH; her son, Robert Sautters Jr. of Canton; her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ilene Davis of San Diego, CA; her sister, Janet Stone of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren and spouses, Chip and Kimberly Rennecker of North Canton, Kimberly and Wes Winterstein of Colorado Springs, CO, Scott and Julie Rennecker of North Canton, Jana Meyer of Columbus, OH and David Meyer of Mansfield, OH; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Zachary Winterstein; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor David Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery. Ethel J. Wideman
Ethel J. Wideman, 81, of 1011 Bachtel St. SE, North Canton, died in her home, Thursday, April 19, 2001. Her death was due to complications from strokes suffered over the past few years. Ethel was born on May 7, 1919, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late David L. and Sophia L. B. Hilliger Brain. She attended Spencerian Business College, Cleveland, and later, Malone College, Canton. Ethel married Donald H. Don Wideman on March 6, 1942, in Cleveland. The couple moved to North Canton in 1955 when they purchased the former Daryl D. Giey Funeral Home, which they operated as the Wideman Funeral Home for nearly thirty years. An antique dealer, Ethel owned and operated the former Wideman Antique Loft, North Canton. She was a member of Community Christian Church and its Friendship Sunday School Class, charter member and Past Worthy Matron of William H. Hoover Chapter 580 O.E.S., past president of the Women's Club, past president of American Legion Aux. Post 419, and a member of the Garden Club, all of North Canton. Ethel was also Past M.C.O. of Nazir Caldron, Past W.H.P. of McKinley Shrine, and past president of Mary Lincoln Council D. of A. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jane C. (Craig) Smith, Bath, and Joan A. Fisher, North Canton; son, Mark D. (Betsy) Wideman, New Philadelphia; four granddaughters, Kristen E. Smith, Chicago, IL, Laura N. Smith, Arlington, VA, Andrea J. (Gary) Eales, Alexandria, VA, and Allison M. Smith, Bath; three grandsons, Daniel H. Smith, a student at American University, Washington D.C., Stephen S. and Brett A. Smith, both of Bath; a sister, Ruth A. (Robert) Null, Tucson, AZ; a brother, David L. (Frances) Brain, Lexington, KY; four nieces and one nephew; friend and health care worker, Tanya Miller, Clinton; beloved dogs, Callie and Teddy; and her cats, Petey and Wally. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, 2001, 2-5:30 p.m., in Community Christian Church, 111 Witwer St. NE, North Canton. The funeral service will follow at 5:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Donald G. Baird will officiate. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception in the church's Community Room. Those who cannot attend the visitation or service are still welcome at the reception, as Ethel would want everyone to have something to eat. A private committal will take place Wednesday in North Canton Cemetery. Florence L. Kaser
Florence L. Kaser, age 80, of Brewster, died Friday, April 20, 2001, in Massillon Community Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born in Zanesville on Jan. 27, 1921 and had lived most of her life in Brewster. Surviving is a son, Ronald (Becky) Kaser of Brewster; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Fat Kaser in 1988 and a brother. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster with Rev. Ray Peters officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m.

George F. Shaheen
George F. Shaheen, age 88, of Canton, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001. He had been under doctor's care. He was a longtime resident of Canton. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, a founder and member of the Phoenician Club and a charter member of Canton Chapter of DeMolay. He was the retired owner and operator of Shaheen Barber Shop on 12th Street N.E. for 55 years. Survived by his wife, Rose Shaheen, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage on December 14, 2000. Also survived by son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Linda Shaheen of North Canton; daughter, Julia Bender of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Loyd and Nahe Shaheen of Canton and Nicholas and Vicki Shaheen of Abilene, TX; and sister-in-law, Aubrey Shaheen of Canton; three grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. William (Jessica) Shaheen of Rochester, NY, Daniel Shaheen and Jeffrey Bender, both of Columbus; and by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferris and Khaliak Shaheen; son-in-law, Jack Bender; and a brother, James F. Shaheen, Sr. Services will be held at noon on Tuesday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. John Nicholas and the Very Fr. Theodore Ziton officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rossi Funeral Home Monday 6-9 p.m. The Trisagion service will be held on Monday 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until noon on Tuesday at the church. The funeral procession will form at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. George Church.

Helen Ann Lohr
Helen Ann Lohr, age 70, of Massillon, passed away Saturday morning at her home. Her death followed a long illness. Helen was born in Massillon on October 7, 1930, to the late Eli and Sarah (Kekich) Nezich. She was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School. Helen had worked at Superior Meats and Central States. A brother, Anthony Nezich preceded her in death. She is survived by husband, Andrew Lohr of the residence with whom she shared 45 years of marriage on October 22nd; children and spouses, Sheldon and Paula Lohr, Michael A. Lohr, Stephanie Lohr and Harvey Lohr, all of Massillon; sister and brothers, Catherine Natoli of Waverly, OH, George Nezich of Brewster, Andrew Nezich of Riverview, MI, John Nezich of Trenton, MI; seven grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, her pastor Fr. Thomas Cebula will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. On Tuesday the procession will form at the church.

Hobert B. Keatley
Hobert B. Keatley, age 78, of Canton, OH, passed away Friday at the Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Canton on January 10, 1923, he was the son of the late, Cora Jane and Edward B. Keatley of Canton. He was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church of God. He was retired having owned and operated for over 20 years the ABC Window and Floor Cleaning Company, and in more recent years had operated the Mortargun Company in Canton. He was the last surviving child out of 11 in the Keatley family. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence, Edward Jr., Henry, John and Carl Keatley; five sisters, Caroline Baker, Mary Haas, Margaret Drummond, Jane Page and Juanita Clark, his oldest son, Ronald H. Keatley in August 2000, infant triplets, Benny Rae, Jimmy Jay and Jenny Kay in 1952 and also by a granddaughter, Michelle Marie Keatley in 1980. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth (Adams) Keatley of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Danny Snyder of Canton and son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lorrie Keatley of Altamonte Springs, FL; and daughter-in-law, Pearl Keatley of Malvern; grandchildren, Ronald Keatley Jr. of Minerva, Jessie Keatley of Sebring, Steve Keatley of Malvern, Janet Keatley and Justin Keatley both of Altamonte Springs, FL, and David Hall of Miami, FL; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Audrianna Keatley of Minerva. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Webb Parson and Rev. Jesse Meese officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Katherine Moore
Katherine Moore, age 83, formerly of Canton and more recently of Sugarland, TX, passed away Thursday morning in the home of her daughter. Born May 18, 1917, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late William and Alice Little. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Kermit (Alabam) Moore on April 12, 1993. Survivors include one daughter, Mary A. Evans of Sugarland, TX and one grandson, James W. Evans; numerous nieces; and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Dooley officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Larry M. Anderson
Larry M. Anderson, age 58, of Canton, died Saturday morning, April 21, 2001, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Paris, TN and had resided in Canton since 1982. He was a self-employed independent truck driver and was employed by the Zeigler Tire Co. for four years. He served with the Tennessee National Guard during the Vietnam War and was a member of Denny and Marge Hazen's Ministry. His father, George Campbell, preceded him in death. Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy Totten Anderson, to whom he was married for four years; his sons, David and Robert Anderson of Paris and Larry Anderson Jr. of the home; daughters, Gayla Luke of Paris and Kathy Totten Anderson of Canton; mother, Roselle Campbell of Paris; grandson, Grant Lambert; sister, Georgia Lemonds of Paris; mother-in-law, Jessie Totten of Canton; sisters-in-law, Nila Dedmon of Canton and Ella Motta of Burlington, WI; nephew, Johnny Dedmon of Canton; niece, Zephyr Kobie of Canton and son-in-law, Randy Portman of Canton. Loureta A. Hobson
Loureta A. Hobby Hobson, age 90, died April 20th at the Country Club Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon. She was born April 4, 1911, in Sugarcreek, OH, a daughter of the late Amos and Ermah Froelich Hostetler, and had been a Canton resident most of her life. She was an active member of AARP and Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, where she ran the Sunday nursery program for many years. She also was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Her husband, Carl, with whom she owned and operated Hobson's Donut Shop during World War II, predeceased her on Dec. 26, 1979. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donn and Pat Hobson of East Canton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Gatschet of Canton, Jane and George Frentzel of Apple Valley, OH and Englewood, FL, and Lynda and Rob Weston of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 12 Noon in the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Charles W. Ulmer officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:30-12 Noon prior to the service. Lucille Kish
Lucille Kish, age 93, of Canton, OH, passed away Friday afternoon, April 20, 2001 in the emergency room at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Canton, OH, December 11, 1907 to her parents the late Roman and Mary Alice (Beal) Simler, she was a graduate of McKinley High School. Mrs. Kish was a member of Free Methodist church and the Women's Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben J. Kish Sr., April 7, 2001. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Francis Parker of Canton, OH, Alice and Gary Banta of Canton, OH; two sons, Robert Kish and Ben Jay Kish Jr. both of Canton, OH; one granddaughter and her spouse, Natalie and Kevin Steed; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Steed. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Luella L. Iler
Luella L. Iler, age 94, of Massillon, died Wednesday afternoon in Doctors Hospital. Born July 7, 1906, in Dennison, OH, to the late Clifford and Caroline Morrow. Preceded in death by her husband, William E. Iler on February 25, 1950 and one son, Robert L. Iler on April 14, 1996. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Thomas Jordan of Massillon; and son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Roberta Iler of Navarre; also daughter-in-law, Janet L. Iler of Canton; nine grandchildren, Sherry (Tim) Wilson of Massillon, Laurie (Mike) Jordan of California, Melanie (Todd) Oberline of Massillon, Robert II (Cathy) Iler of Parma, OH, James Iler of Canton, Barbara (Bill) Johnson of Arizona, Rhonda (George) Harders of Florida, William E. Jr. (Beth) of Massillon and Patricia (Carl) Mayle of Louisville; and seven great-grandchildren. There were no calling hours or funeral services.

Margaret Au, age 70, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Aultman Hospital. She was a member of Center Church of the Brethren, A.L.S.A. and O.R.L.V.A. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1991. She is survived by a son, Tim; daughter, Cheryl of the home; granddaughter, Summer Au, all of Louisville, Wylie Butch/Pete Riggs. Margaret E. Hirst
Margaret E. Hirst, age 94, of 22284 US Rt. 30, Minerva, OH., died Friday, April 20, 2001 in Minerva Elder Care following a long illness. She was born June 14, 1906 in Magnolia, OH to William and Sarah (Long) Lewis. She was a 1924 graduate of Malvern High School, graduate of Carrollton Normal School and Kent State University, is a member of Bayard United Methodist Church, a retired School Teacher for MI Day Elementary, member of the Bayard Grange #1878, Esther Chapter #120 O.E.S. a former member of the AARP and also a former member of the Ohio and National Retired Teachers Associations. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Hirst who died June 9, 1979; two brothers, Donald and Arthur Lewis. She is survived by a daughter, Twila Pottorf of Minerva; a sister, Helen Romano of Malvern; two grandchildren, Janice McNutt of Elyria, Larry and Diane Pottorf of Minerva; a great-grandchild, Logan Pottorf of Minerva. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. James Huston officiating. Burial will be in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday (today) 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with Eastern Star Services at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Bayard United Methodist Church.

Richard Warehime
Richard W. Warehime, age 71, of Canton, died Friday in the Arbors of Canton. He was a draftsman with over 30 years of experience and retired from the Gradall Co. in New Philadelphia. He then became a driver for the Thrifty Rental Car Co., where he worked until his illness a year ago. He was a radio operator in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Shirley; a son, David of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kelley Warehime of Canton. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. Friends are invited to attend Graveside services Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m. in Sunset Hills Burial Park with the Rev. Jeffrey Shultz officiating. Vada F. Burden
Vada F. Burden, age 93, of Barberton and formerly of Canton, passed Saturday April 21, 2001 in Wyant Woods Care Center. She was born in Sistersville, WV on June 22,1907 to the late Frank W. Mary V. (Glen) White. Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Burden in 1969; a daughter, Gwendolyn Nicholas; and 2 step-sons, George and Jack Burden. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee Judy Burden of Barberton and Bert Connie Burden of Canton; 14 Grandchildren and 31 Great-grandchildren who she adored; and step-daughter, Janella Travenner of MT. Friends may call Monday 2-4 7-9 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral Services will be Tuesday 12:00 noon in the funeral home with Pastor Delaney Young officiating. Final Resting Place is Forest Hill Cemetery.

Virginia Caplea
Virginia (Himes) G. Caplea, age 82, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at home. Virginia was born in Louisville, OH, January 16, 1919, to the late Curtis and Fannie (Lesh) Himes. She was a former English and Music Teacher at North Nimishillen, Pleasant Grove, Fairhope and St. Louisville Schools and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas E. Gallagher and a brother, Jack Himes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and is survived by her husband, Nicholas G. Caplea; four daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Paul Scherrer of Indianapolis, IN, Jeanne and John Variola of Greentown, Christine and David Pfister of White Salmon, WA and Laurie and David Kolberg of Louisville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sharyn Caplea of Canton, Joseph and Ann Caplea of Greentown, James and Joanne Caplea of Louisville; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Floyd Lewis of Louisville; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Himes of Louisville; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Rev. Fr. Ken Miller officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday in Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville. Interment in St. Louis Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aultman Hospice.
