Pauline Horst
Pauline Horst, age 74, of Columbiana, OH, passed away Mon. Aug. 20, 2001 from Cancer at the Greenbriar Center in Boardman, where she had been a patient for one month. Born March 17, 1927 in Leetonia, OH, the daughter of the late Harvey and Olive Myers Martin. She lived in Columbiana all her life having spent winters for the past 12 years in Sarasota, FL. She was a Homemaker and did the bookkeeping for the family's poultry business of Columbiana for 40 years. She was an active member of Leetonia Mennonite Church. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School in 1945. Survived by her husband, Melvin Ezra Horst, whom she married Sept. 2.4, 1949; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Joanne) Lehman of Applecreek, OH, Mrs. John (Melva) Huebert of North Lima, OH, Mrs. Karen Cobb of Santa Fe, NM; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Conrad of Louisville; two brothers, Wilbur Martin and Herbert Martin, both of Columbiana, OH; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Private interment will be held on Thursday at the Midway Mennonite Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Leetonia Mennonite Church in Leetonia with Rev. Robert Yoder officiating. Friends may call Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. in the Leetonia Mennonite Church. The family suggests that material tributes may be made to Hope Lodge 11432 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland, OH 44106 or Hospice of the Valley. 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.

Raymond R. Losey
Raymond R. Losey, age 85, of Canton, died Sunday evening at his home. He retired in 1982 from Diebold after 30 years of service; was a former member and past president of the McKinley Stamp Club and the Stark County Stamp Club. During World War II he was a Cartographer for the Navy Dept. Preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Kaser Losey in 1984; a brother, Donald Losey; and a sister, Hazel Purcell. Survived by his wife, Beulah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and Robert Schenk of Louisville, KY., Darla and Robert Brumbaugh of Canton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a step-daughter and her husband, Doris and Carl Baldwin of Canton; three step-sons, Jim Medley of Canton, John and his wife, Judy Medley of Canton, Harry Medley of North Canton; 13 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Raisbeck, Helen and Forrest Fox all of Easton, PA. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Carl Baldwin officiating. Burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday (today) 6-9 p.m.

Richard L. Marker
Richard L. Marker. The family will receive friends Wednesday (TODAY) 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Reid A. Firestone officiating. Interment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Roger L. Zachary, Jr.
Roger Lee Zachary, Jr., age 34, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 20, 2001 after an extended illness.
He was born May 10, 1967 in Canton, OH. Roger, who was known to most as Junebug and as Zach to others, loved life and lived it to the fullest. He accepted Christ at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.C. Henderson. He was a faithful member who served in the angelic, young adult and Canton-Warren-Youngstown Sub-District choirs. He later moved his membership to New Bethel Baptist Church under Larry G. Hamilton, Sr., pastor. He was a 1985 graduate of McKinley Senior High School and attended Stark State College of Technology. He was employed at the Hoover Company for seven years until his illness, and served as Union Steward for Local I.B.E.W. 1985. Roger is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bennie Zachary, Grady Zachary and Johnnie L. Randle, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Arlene Zachary of the home; parents, Roger and Bernice Zachary, Sr.; grandmother, Annie P. Randle; two brothers, Jeffrey and Keith (Jennifer) Zachary, Sr.; one sister, Karla Zachary; special cousin, Luvenia Brewer, who loved him like a son; special uncle, Bonnie Glenn; best and dear family friend, Andre Hailey; and a host of dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 12 Noon at Antioch Baptist Church, 1103 7th St. NE. Calling hours will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church and Friday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at 2624 and 2621 Wood Owl St. NE. Services entrusted to Rhoden Memorial Funeral Home.
Junebug, you will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Ruth M. Burfield
Ruth Maxine Burfield, age 79, of Navarre, OH, passed away Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Canton on May 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ottie and Grace Havener. She was a member of the Market Avenue Church of Christ. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Havener and three sisters, Audrey Mahaffey, Janice Camarata and Winifred Niebel. Survivors include her husband, R. Dayton Burfield of the home to whom she had been married 51 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Cheryl Burfield of Navarre and Mark and Eloise Burfield of Bolivar, OH; four grandchildren, Clyde Burfield, Jr., Heather, Laura and Melissa Burfield; one brother, Otis Havener of Homestead, FL; and two sisters, Marguerite Miller and Joyce Humphreville, both of Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Minister Keith Kull officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Laurens Cemetery in Bolivar. Calling hours at the funeral home Thursday 6-9 p.m.

Thomas R. Davis, Jr.
Thomas R. Davis, Jr. was born April 30, 1918 in Uniontown, PA to Thomas R. and Maryetta Davis. Tom died of natural causes on August 20, 2001 at Aultman Hospital at the age of 83. Tom was a devoted husband to Sara (Fisher) for nearly 60 years; a loving father to his children and spouses, Sandra Casey, Thomas Davis III, William and Nancy Davis; an adored grandfather by James and Kim Casey, Debra Casey, Thom and Chris Davis, Kerry Peters, Justin Peters, Michelle, Michael and Mitchell Davis. Tom will be missed by the great-grandchildren who barely got the chance to know him, Aarika, Thommy, Kayla, Anna, Ryan and Tyler. He is survived by a niece, whom he helped raise, Violet Thomas. Tom served his country in the Army for 6 1/2 years during World War II and has been a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. After serving his country Tom went about the task of supporting and raising his family here in Canton, OH while working 40 years at Union Metal. Tom is preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters as well as one grandchild, Eric S. Davis. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, his dogs and above all, his family. Late in life despite being blind, Tom continued to bowl with the Canton Blind Bowlers Association with a 130 average. Tom met each obstacle in his life with the same fierce determination and courage, which would never allow him to quit or fail. It is this trait for which he will be most remembered and will be carried forward through their lives by his progeny. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara Ross officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home Thursday 7-9 p.m.

Vance H. Rohrer
Vance H. Boo Rohrer, age 16, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly August 20, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident. Vance was born in Canton on June 24, 1985. He was a student at Timken High School. He is preceded in death by an uncle, Mike Rohrer. Survivors include his father and step-mother, Jerry and his mother and step-father, Tammy Rohrer and Joey Johnson of Canton; three brothers, Jerry, John and Samuel Rohrer; and a sister, April Rohrer all of Canton; maternal grandmother, Carol Fether of Canton; paternal grandparents, Howard Rohrer of Canton, Alice Brown of Malvern and Suzie Rohrer of Canton; numerous uncles, aunts, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9-11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Wanda J. Bordner
Wanda J. Bordner. Friends may call on Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME, and one hour before services on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sharon Carnes officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Bordner's name can be made to Trinity Gospel Temple, 1612 W. Tuscarawas St., Canton, OH 44708.

Alma Irene Elliott
Alma Irene Elliott, of Canton, OH, died on Sunday August 26, 2001, in the presence of family and friends and under the gentle and tender care of Laurels' nursing staff. Alma Irene Elliott slipped peacefully from life to death to life eternal. Born in Noble County, OH on June 2, 1917, she had been a resident of Canton since 1937. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milford who died in April of 1987; her parents, Frank and Mary Teeters; and two brothers, John and Doyle Teeters. Her absence will be mourned by those who cherished her presence, including her two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Milford and Diane Elliott of Canton and David and Sherry Elliott of Philadelphia, PA; her sister, Zola McKee of McConnelsville, OH; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Eleanor Teeters; and niece, Mary Barbara Teeters, all of Zanesville, OH; there are numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends who showered her with their attention over the course of her long illness. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call one hour before the services on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in her memory to the American Lung Association.

Anna C. Sturia
Anna C. (Martello) Sturia, age 88, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning after an extended illness. She was born in Indiana, PA, and has been a Canton resident most of her life. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a member of Order Italian Sons and Daughters of America, The Northern Italian Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Sturia in July 1984; her parents, Angelo and Francasca Martello; sister, Rose Prestier and brother, Vernon Martello. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Stella Sturia of Canton; daughter, Francis (Depetri) Crano of Bonita Springs, FL; three sisters, Mafalda Gambow of Canton, Lena Caley of Las Vegas, NV, Lucy Guynup of Canton; brother, Tony Martelli of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Claudia Martelli of Texas, Steve (Lisa) Criswell of Texas, Danny (Maryann) Sturia of Canton; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. The funeral procession will form at the church on Wednesday.

Barbara A. Thomas
Barbara A. Thomas. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Rinehart officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church. Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home South Cleveland Ave. in charge of arrangements.

Bryan A. Newman
Bryan A. Newman, age 8, went home to be with Jesus, Aug. 27, 2001. A Uniontown resident and student at Lake Center Christian School, he was a member of Green Baptist Church. Bryan, a people magnet, was a boy who never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Clay and Janet; brother, Christopher; sisters, Katie and Hannah; grandparents, Cecilia Newman, Russell and Elinor Wire and countless relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kaufman Center in Hartville, where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ron Mohlmaster officiating. Burial in Mt. Peace Cemetery, Hartville. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Wishes Can Happen, PO Box 9428, Canton, OH 44711.

Carrie Ford
Carrie Ford went home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Meridian, MS, and had lived in the Canton Community most of her life. She was a member of the Salvation Army Mission. Mrs. Ford was preceded in death by her husband and several children. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Robert (Chris) Ford of Alliance and Charles Ford of Florida; daughters, Liza Mae Ford, Annie Meadows, both of Canton; grandchildren whom she reared, Trina Frazier, Timmy Ford, Keva Gantt, LaChristopher Ford, Natasha (Ronnie) McClain, Faheem Meadows; sister, Elizabeth Wilcox of Louisville, OH; seven other grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at 1 p.m. from the Shiloh Baptist Church, 700 Market Ave. South, with Pastor Ricky Lawson, Sr. officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of service. The family will be received at the home of Trina Frazier where condolences may also be sent, 1424 Willet Ave. S.E., Canton. Services entrusted to Rhoden Memorial Home.

Charles S. Gelal, Jr.
Charles S. Gelal, Jr., age 46, of Canton, passed away suddenly Saturday evening. He was a life resident of Canton, he was a graduate of McKinley High School in 1973. He also attended Northwestern University. He was the offensive back of the year in 1973, and received the Hard Nose Award. He was All Ohio Running Back Player in the Ohio All Star Game. He was elected McKinley Hall of Fame in 1996. He was a member of McKinley Senior Booster Club. He was a pilot and member of War Birds of America. He was the owner of Orchardale Building and Development, Inc. He was the loving father of two beautiful daughters, Caitlin and Cari both of the home; his parents, Charles S. Gelal, Sr. and Mary Louise (Pope) Gelal of Canton; a sister, Terri Gelal of Ponte Verda Beach, FL; uncle and aunt, Gerald and Joan Gelal of Canton; aunts, Joan Halter of Canton, Cindy Coowell of Kalamazoo, MI, Velma Gelal and uncle, Joseph Pope. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Mary Gelal; and his uncle, Sam Gelal. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church which he was member, with Msgr. John Finnigan as celebrant. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. There will be a wake service at 4:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

D. Evelyn Martin
D. Evelyn (Kline-Daniels) Martin, age 82, of Massillon, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 26, 2001 in the Hanover House following a brief illness. Born in West Salem, OH, March 6, 1919 to her parents the late John and Ruth (Steffonni) Kline, she has been a resident of the Massillon area for the past 20 years moving here from Wooster, OH. She was a retired employee of Bell and Howell in Wooster, OH, retiring in 1982. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Daniels, November, 1967; first husband, Franklin Daniels, in 1970. Survivors includes her husband of 20 years, Warren Martin of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Linda Danels of Wooster, OH; two stepsons and their spouses, Randy and Terry Martin of Canton, Bruce and Lisa Martin of Louisville, OH; six sisters; three brothers; two grandchildren, Melissa and Scott Daniels of Wooster, OH; four step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in Rittman Grace Brethren Church, 44 South First St., Rittman, OH with Rev. Bud Olszewski officating. Burial will in Lodi Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 7-9 p.m. in Reed Funeral Home, 705 Raff Rd. SW, Canton and at the Church one hour prior to the services Thursday 12 Noon-1 p.m.
