Age: 65

Carl. H Smith, 65, Hillsboro, died at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, Friday, Sept. 5, 2003. He was born in Xenia, Oct. 10, 1937, the son of the later George and Lottie Brittingham Smith.

He is a retired carpet installer. He is a Korean War veteran and active for six years in the naval reserves and Marine Corps. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his former wife, Emma Lou Adams, Hillsboro; four daughters, Carla Owen of Georgia, Teresa (Arnold) Nickell of Centerville, Traci (Jim Jeffries) Williford of Dayton and Vickie (Kenny) Ruppert, Riverside; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Angie and Carolyn Owen, Jimmie and Jeremy Norman, Shannon, Brandy and Tina Williford, Jamie Allen and Tessa Ruppert; three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Carlie Miller and Logan Alexander Owen; three brothers, Bill (Janice) Smith of Beavercreek, Larry Smith of Bowersville and Melvin Smith of Xenia; sister, Maxine Stewart of Xenia and a sister-in-law, Beverly Smith of Xenia; stepchildren, Melinda (Rick) Watson of Hillsboro, Greg (Pam) Adams, Wilmington and Zack (Julie) Adams of New Vienna; nine stepgrandchildren and eighth step great-grand children. Survived by several nieces and nephews, Carla Stewart, Pamela McDonald, Penny Jarnagin and William Smith, Jr. Brothers, Alva Thomas, Clarence, Archie and Wesley Smith preceded him in death,

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina and burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

William B. Crawford
Died: Friday, September 05, 2003
Age: 81

William B. Crawford, 81, Xenia, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 5, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Xenia, the son of Grover C. and Esther Babb Crawford. He was a member of the Xenia Friends Church, a Major in the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II, member of the American Legion Post #95, Xenia Elks Lodge #668, Civil Air Patrol, Retired Officers Club, Amateur Ham Radio operator, Greene Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and longtime employee of Lang’s Chevrolet.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie L. (Sheley) Crawford, whom he married, March 11, 1944; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Dennis Crawford and Marcella, Mansfield, David A. and Lee Crawford, Beavercreek and Michael and Janice Crawford, Beavercreek; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lee and Gary Peach, Rocky Mount, N.C.; six grandchildren, Christopher Wilhem, Christina Crawford, Lissa Crawford, Kira Crawford, Bryce Millikin and Angela Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Brenna Millikin, Owin Crawford, Elijah Crawford; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert C. and Loraine Crawford, Xenia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with, Rev. Robert Warner officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, with American Legion services at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Garnet M. Turner
Died: Thursday, September 04, 2003
Age: 83

Garnet M. Turner, 83, of Xenia, friend and giving person to all, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 4, 2003, at Hospitality Home West. She was born May 5, 1920, in Salem, Ky., the daughter of Alvin and Mary Howard Davis.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lisa Turner, Mesquite, Texas, Larry Conaway, Peebles, and Junior and Connie Conaway, Peebles; stepchildren and spouses, Robert and Joyce Turner, Huber Heights, Phillip and Judy Turner, Paintersville, Louis S. Turner Jr. and Ealon, Xenia, James and Ruth Ann Turner, Xenia, Loren and Treva Turner, Xenia, Keith and Lucille Turner, Xenia, Bonnie and Deion Kiger, Cincinnati, Kathy and Ralph Hill, Xenia, Judy and Vernon Kiger, Xenia, Muriel and Russell Curry, Dayton, Mary Trisel, Dayton, and Joy and Charles Hill, Xenia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Davis, McDermott, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis S. Turner, on Aug. 25, 1968; a grandson, Troy Greene; a sister, Oma Osborn, and three brothers, Oscar Davis, Cecil Davis and Joe Davis.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. R. James Pete Creamer officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery.

Donna L. (Baise) Barrett
Died: Wednesday, September 03, 2003
Age: 62

Donna L. (Baise) Barrett 62 of Springfield, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003 in her residence.

She was born October 1, 1940 in Lawrence County Ohio the daughter of John G. and Annice F. (Kerr) Baise. Donna was a member of the Clifton Avenue Church of God and was employed by the Clark County Children’s Home for 10 years.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; Thomas Michael Barrett and Anthony Dean and Nikole Barrett three grandchildren: Evan Colyer, Logan and Gabriel Barrett all of Springfield, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Mary and Dick Hall of Stevensville, Montana and Annette and Ron Pauley of Jamestown, Ohio, four brothers and sisters-in-law: Paul and Ruth Baise, Wayne and Barb Baise both of Jamestown, Danny Baise of New Orleans, and Arthur and Becky Baise of Rolla, Missouri, many nieces and nephews, and special friends the Hufford family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Michael Barrett in 1992 and one sister and four brothers.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Littleon and Rue Funeral Home, Springfield where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Don Spurgeon officiating.

Burial will be in the Jamestown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420.

Haroldyne J. Gerald
Died: Wednesday, September 03, 2003
Age: 79

Haroldyne J. Gerard, 79, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 3, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born in Versailles, Mo., on Aug. 15, 1924, the daughter of Harold and Josephine (Smoyer) Marriott.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Xenia, a 56-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Xenia and former member of the Jamestown Village Council. She also co-authored the Jamestown Area Sesquicentennial book with Martha Hollingsworth. Her working career began at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, then to the U.S. Postal Service in Jamestown, to Gerard Insurance in Jamestown, and retiring as deputy director of the Greene County Board of Elections.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne L. Gerard of Jamestown, and extended family member Ray Ball Jr. of Xenia.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bowersville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the Alzheimers Association.

Arrangements are with the Powers Funeral Home, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown.

Dorothea F. Climie
Died: Tuesday, September 02, 2003
Age: 83

Dorothea F. "Dot" Climie, age 83, of Beavercreek, passed away Sept. 2, 2003 at Hospice of Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Climie. She is survived by her husband Charles "Hank" ; two sons, James and wife, Carol of Kettering, Bill and wife, Denise of Xenia and one daughter, Verna Ciesielski and husband, Brian of Grand Canyon, Ariz. Dorthea is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeff, Kurt, Wade, Nicole, Nathan, Neal, Noelle, Danielle and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Kenton, Grant, Micah and Samantha.

Dot was a member of Aley United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at Aley United Methodist Church, 4143 Kemp Road, Beavercreek. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Aley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Fund at Aley United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Dayton.

Frank Edward Greene
Died: Tuesday, September 02, 2003
Age: 83

Frank Edward Greene, age 83, passed away Sept. 2, 2003 at Greenewood Manor, Xenia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; mother, Bessie (Brightwell); father, Frank Green; brother, Paul Greene; and daughter-in-law, Susan Greene.

Frank was born in Dayton on Jan. 3, 1920 and attended schools in Dayton, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1938. On Feb. 6, 1943 Frank was happily married to Gladys Preston in Dayton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II attaining the rank of Sergeant while serving in Europe. Frank was awarded the American Theatre Medal Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory European African Middle Eastern Medal with three Bronze stars. He retired from GM Delphi after 31 years of service during which time he received numerous awards for achievements in management.

Survived by his loving son, Dr. Ronald J. Greene; grandson, Ryan Greene; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Bellbrook Cemetery. Special thanks to all the wonderful people who helped care for my father the last three years. In lieu of flowers we request a donation to the charity of your choice in Frank’s memory.

Mark Anthony "Buckshot" Harris
Died: Tuesday, September 02, 2003
Age: 47

Mark Anthony “Buckshot” Harris, 47, of Springfield, departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at 11:15 p.m. in his residence in Xenia. He was born Feb. 15, 1956, in Springfield, the son of Martin W. Harris and Minervia M. Harris.

He was employed by Conley Construction Inc. and was a devoted member of the Greater Grace Temple.

He is survived by his loving mother, Minervia Harris of Springfield; sons, Mark Anthony Beard, Eddie L. White and Guy L. (Jameica) White, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Obejiah, Aziz, Guyia, Mahadiyya, Saalih, Barbara, Ki Antra, Gemara, Anthony, Elijah and Saalihah, A’Sonte, Rashae, Richard, William and Rashan; aunts, Eddie (Van) Thrasher, Susie (George) Chapman and Rebecca Stewart, all of Springfield; his very close and devoted companion, LInda Stephens of Springfield; stepdaughters, Stephanie Stephens and Sonyale (Mickey) Stephens; stepson, Randall “Hank” Stephens; and special cousins, Neal and Kurt Browning. Special nieces, Deanna and Corrie Harris; special nephews, Anthony and Martin Harris; special sisters-in -law, Doris Portis and Dorothy Trollinger of Springfield; his brother, Guy W. Harris, and sister Beth Ann Harris preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held today, Sept. 5, from 5-9 p.m. at Porter-Qualls Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Porter-Qualls Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, with Elder Ronald Logan of Greater Grace Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 607 Monaco Drive.

Final tributes are a service of Porter-Qualls Funeral Home, 823 S. Yellow Springs St., Springfield, James E. Qualls III funeral director. For additional information, call 937-325-1447.
