Richard Anthony de la Cruz, 20, of Xenia, passed away suddenly on Friday October 10, 2003 in Xenia. He was born in Medford, Oregon on January 17, 1983 the son of Rodolfo Ramirez and Amy Allen. Survivors include his mother and father Amy and Rodolfo; a sister Elena de la Cruz; maternal grandparents Nancy and Frank Brown; maternal great-grandmother Ruth Meranda all of Xenia; ten aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; extended family members and many, many friends including G. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2003 at 5 p.m. at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr., Xenia, with Pastor Rex Robinson officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2003, from 5-8 p.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, OH., 45385. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Valley View Memorial Gardens.

Helene J. Harlow
Died: Wednesday, October 08, 2003
Age: 82

Helene J. Harlow, 82, of the Trinity Community in Beavercreek, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at Kettering Medical Center.

Helene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Walter J.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dean Meek, of Walton, IN, Robin and Dan Sammon, of Beavercreek, OH; three sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Carol, of Slippery Rock, PA, David and Jane, of Ann Arbor, MI, Richard and Pat, of Lansing, MI; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Jerry Brown, of Kettering, OH; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia McCord, and a granddaughter, Donna Sue.

Helene was a member of the American-Czechoslovakian Club.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd.

Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2003.

Grace E. Lindberg
Died: Tuesday, October 07, 2003
Age: 77

Grace E. Lindberg, 77, of Huber Heights, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Heartland of Beavercreek.

She was a retired teacher from Wayne High School with 30 years of service, a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, past president of American Legion Post 200, VFW Post 3283 and Mothers of Twins Club, member of the China Burma & India Theatre Veterans Association and the Officers Wives Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Frank R. Lindberg, in 1992. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Gene Harris of Dayton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Lloyd Lindberg of Sacramento, Calif., and Jon Roland Lindberg and Linda of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dr. Joseph Brower of Pennsylvania; brother and sister-in-law, Michael Lloyd Zipf and Cookie of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; devoted friend, Sue Berg; eight grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Marker & Heller Funeral Home, Huber Heights Chapel, 5844 Old Troy Pike, with Pastor Ken Rebok officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Dayton Chapter, in Grace’s memory.

Grace E. Lindberg

Carol Jean Reffett
Died: Tuesday, October 07, 2003
Age: 70

Carol Jean Reffett, 70, of Fairborn, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Dayspring Health Care Center. She was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Ashland, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Jean (Potter) Ewing.

Carol served her country for four years in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 32 years of faithful service. She was a member of the Friends of the Air Force Museum and was a dedicated volunteer at the museum since 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Wilson of Dayton and Jane Reffett and Garry Adkins of Dayton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Pat Ewing of Ashland; two grandchildren, Jason Vaughen and his wife Erika of Fairborn and Carrie Pence and her husband Chris Newman of Fairborn; two great-grandchildren, Chase Vaughen and Lucas Newman, and three nephews, Jeff Ewing, Craig Ewing and Scott Ewing. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Robert John Edie; a brother, William Ewing, and his wife Elizabeth Ewing and their son, Tim Ewing.

No visitation will be observed. Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Byron Cemetery.

The family is being served by Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the Air Force Museum Foundation, P.O. Box 33624, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base 45433.

Alma C. Hamilton
Died: Monday, August 25, 2003
Age: 88

Alma C. Hamilton, 88, of Xenia, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003 at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was born September 8, 1914 in Xenia, to John C. and Ella N. (Nash) Crawford. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, where she was the Missionary and Sunday School Secretary; Lifetime member of the Ohio District Council, Golden Age Senior Citizens, where she was named volunteer of the year.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter-in-law: Cora L. Stevens of Xenia; three grandchildren: Marjorie J. Wright of Ft. Washington, MD.; Alma A. (Paul) Brown of Xenia; and Emma C. Stevens of Xenia; Six great-grandchildren: Terrance E. Stevens; Carlos J. Wright; Siohban C. Wright; Reina C. Brown; Briana L. Stevens; and Koko A. Brown; Five great-great-grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Ella N. (Nash) Crawford, Husband: James E. Hamilton; Son: Charles E. Stevens, and Eleven other brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, 914 E. Third Street, Xenia with Elder Marvin Graves officiating. Visitation will be Friday at the church at 9 a.m. until the time of Service at 11 a.m. with the family present at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Xenia.

Mercedes Elaine Sloan
Died: Monday, August 25, 2003
Age: 81

Mercedes Elaine (Shuler) Sloan, age 81 of Fairborn, went to be with her Lord on Sunday August 25, 2003 in the Hospice of Dayton. Mercy was born on November 6, 1921 to the late Clifford D. and Leo (Hunt) Shuler in Seven Mile, Ohio. Mercy retired from Inland Manufacturing in 1982 and was involved in the Inland Ladies of Leisure, Inland Retirement Club, and attended Victory Temple Church in Fairborn. She spent many hours creating beautiful keepsake quilts for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sloan in January 2000, her parents, Clifford and Leo Shuler, sister, Ella Jean Shuler, and her brother Don Shuler in March 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Leon Sloan and Doug (Helen) Sloan of Fairborn; brothers, Robert (Freida) Shuler, Lowell (Yvonne) Shuler, Wayne (Carol) Shuler, Lyle (Sharron) Shuler, and Mrs. Don Shuler (Miriam). Also survived by grandchildren, Leslie (Jeff) Hurst, Kenny (Amy) Sloan, Lisa (Tom) Kurtz, and Missy (Mike) Young; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Hurst, Sarah, Christopher, and Katie Sloan, Erin and David Kurtz. Special friends; Ginny Carroll, Isabelle McClure, Terisa Foust, Minnie Addis, Tyler Lewis, Dick Williams, along with her many friends and co-workers from Inland Manufacturing; as well as numerous other family members, friends, and neighbors.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 28, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, where services will be conducted on Friday August 29, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at the Somerville Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Mercy’s family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Dayton for their wonderful care for Mercy over the last six weeks. Also thanks to the staff at Miami Valley Hospital along with Dr. David Key for their many hours of care and support. The family would also like to thank the staff at Daysprings in Enon, Ohio and also the staff at Wright Rehabilitation Center in Fairborn. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Howard Wunderlich for all of his added care and support of Mercy and her family during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420 or Victory Temple, 2443 Valle Greene Drive, Fairborn, Ohio, 45324.

Mercedes was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved and will be missed.

Robert A. Moore
Died: Monday, August 25, 2003
Age: 73

Robert A. Moore, age 73, of Sabina, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2003, at the Fayette Co. Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 16, 1930, to John and Nellie Oren Moore.

He married Mary E. Moore on August 2, 1962.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He retired in 1995 from the Boone Pallet Company of Xenia.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary; daughter, Debra Sue Hixon of Bloomingburg; sons, David Louis Moore of Washington Court House; sister, Louemma McDaniel of West Jefferson; and one grandson, William Hixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Oren, John and Albert; sisters, Ethel Lewis, Martha Tolle and Lillian Lower.

Funeral service will be held at 2

p.m. on Wednesday August 27, 2003, at the Family Community Church in Jeffersonville.

A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be held at Koontz Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
