Alma C. Hamilton
Died: Monday, August 25, 2003
Age: 88

Alma C. Hamilton, 88, of Xenia, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003 at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was born September 8, 1914 in Xenia, to John C. and Ella N. (Nash) Crawford. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, where she was the Missionary and Sunday School Secretary; Lifetime member of the Ohio District Council, Golden Age Senior Citizens, where she was named volunteer of the year.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter-in-law: Cora L. Stevens of Xenia; three grandchildren: Marjorie J. Wright of Ft. Washington, MD.; Alma A. (Paul) Brown of Xenia; and Emma C. Stevens of Xenia; Six great-grandchildren: Terrance E. Stevens; Carlos J. Wright; Siohban C. Wright; Reina C. Brown; Briana L. Stevens; and Koko A. Brown; Five great-great-grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Ella N. (Nash) Crawford, Husband: James E. Hamilton; Son: Charles E. Stevens, and Eleven other brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, 914 E. Third Street, Xenia with Elder Marvin Graves officiating. Visitation will be Friday at the church at 9 a.m. until the time of Service at 11 a.m. with the family present at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Xenia.

Final tributes are a Service of Porter-Qualls Funeral Home, 574 E. Main Street, Xenia, James E. Qualls, III funeral director. For additional information, please call 937-372-9003.

James R. Holliday
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 87

James R. Holliday, 87, of Fairborn, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003, at home.

He was born January 19, 1916, in Hazard, KY, the son of the late James and Sadie (Combs) Holliday.

Mr. Holliday was a retired railroad engineer with L&N Railroad and was a member of Petre Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Ella Mae Holliday; nine children, Pat Kauffman, Fairborn; Jenny (Jim) Clark, Hudson, FL; Vena M. Dinwiddie, Fairborn; Jimmie Lee (Roger) Van Thorre of Ft. Collins, CO; Linda Lou (John) Cardarella, New Orleans, LA; Sadie (Charles) Guey, New Orleans, LA; Birdie Soignet, New Orleans, LA; Patty Eaton, Clearwater, FL; Rev. Joe Holliday of Fairborn; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, numerous family and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, where services will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don McMurray.

Roger Walker
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 56

Roger Walker, 56, Wilmington, died at Kettering Medical Center, Sunday, August 24, 2003. He was born in Columbus, OH, October 12, 1946, the son of Harry R. and Elizabeth I. Moore Walker.

He was a machinist and toolmaker and self-employed horse trainer. He graduated from Sabina High School in 1964 and attended the University of Kentucky.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Roger had an unending love for horses and showing them. He was associated with, well known and liked in numerous Quarter Horse, Paint Horse, Appaloosa and other horse organizations.

He was also known for his patience and guidance as he instructed youth and amateurs with learning how to ride and show horses.

His greatest love of all, however, was helping his daughter, Allison and watching her show her horses and dairy cows.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lora Marshall Walker, whom he married January 7, 1984, and they renewed their vows, August 10, 2003; daughter Allison Walker, at home; mother, Elizabeth Walker, Leesburg; brother Randall (Connie) Walker of Leesburg; sister, Suellen (Mike) Jenkins of Martinsville; nieces, Stephanie and Jill Walker and a nephew, Cody Jenkins.

His father, Harry R. Walker and one daughter, Tessa Ann Walker, preceded him in death.

Services will be Thursday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Friends Church with burial in the Springfield Friends Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Roger Walker Memorial Fund, c/o Wilmington Savings Bank, 184 N. South St., Wilmington, OH, where the funds will be distributed to Roger’s favorite charities and to his family.

Patricia Ann Cox
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 63

Patricia Ann Cox, 63, of Washington Twp., passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003.

Patricia graduated from Fairborn High School in 1957 and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church since 1995.

She worked in Investment Services at National City Mortgage 20 years.

Survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Richard; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa K. (Mark) Hasinger of Richmond, VA; two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard (Paula) Cox II of Sardinia, OH and Stephen Joseph Cox of Washington Twp.; five grandchildren, Scott Michael, Karen Ann and Julie Christine Hasinger and Richard Paul and Angela Elizabeth Cox; a brother Stephen Arthur (Jane) Revak of Fairborn.

Services will be Wednesday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 4699 Lamme Road, with Dr. Doug DeCelle officiating, with burial in Byron Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville.

James A. Shaver
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 72

James A. Shaver, 72, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 2, 1930, in West Liberty, Ky. to Rufus and Melisie (Hurley) Shaver.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred; daughters, Sandra K. Darby and her husband, Dexter, Paula Trusty and her husband, Russell; sons, Jimmy M. Shaver and his wife, Jackie and Frankie L. Shaver and his wife, Pamela; brothers, Harold Shaver, Dennie Shaver, Charles Shaver and Kenny Shaver; sisters Stella, Olean and Ethel; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jewel and Josephine and his brother, Carl. James served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart and retired from General Motors.

Friends may call at the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Victory Temple Church, 2443 Valle Greene Dr., Fairborn, with Pastor Tim Walden officiating. Interment will be in Byron Cemetery.

The family asks for memorial donations to me made in James’ name to the American Cancer Society.

Machiko Morton
Died: Monday, August 18, 2003
Age: 73

Machiko Shgasaku Morton, 73, died August 18, 2003.

She was the beloved companion of the late Orval A. Wray, cherished by Ginny Bushman, Patricia Tressler, Anita Dahl and Jeanette Horgan and their many grand- and great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a niece and nephew and other family members in Japan as well as Teru Hulton "Keiko," a very dear friend.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Vorhis Funeral Home, 11325 Springfield Pike, Springdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 11117 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati 45242.

Myron R. (Rodger) Rupert
Died: Tuesday, October 07, 2003
Age: 83

Myron R. (Rodger) Rupert, 83, a resident of Beavercreek, passed away at the Dayton VA Hospital in Tuesday October 7, 2003 after a prolonged illness.

Rodger was born September 10, 1920 in West Liberty, OH., to the late Alva E. and Ina (Mann) Rupert.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel and Patrice; three brothers, Bill, Neal and Dickie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Gladyse; three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Benny Bowling, Rachel Beckley, Rayann Mason all of Greenville; Two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodger and Renee Rupert of Chicago, Reigh and Helen Rupert of Crestview, FL.; One step-daughter, Lucy and husband Jim Henry of Beavercreek; three sisters, Cristine Hanenkrat of West Liberty, Celia Stafford of Brookville, Sue and James Hostetler of West Liberty; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rodger proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the destroyer USS Barney. He was a pressman at Dayton Press, retiring after 36 years of service. He was also a member of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church. Rodger devoted most of his active life to helping his family, friends and neighbors whatever their needs. He will be remembered for his caring attitude and his active sense of humor.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at the Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. Interment to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty, OH.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made in Rodger’s memory to the Dayton VA Hospice, 9 North Hospice Unit, 4100 W. Third St., Dayton, OH., 45417 or to the West Liberty Presbyterian Church, 215 W. Columbus St., West Liberty, OH. 43357.
