V. June (Watson) Hileman Grady

June 3, 1924-Dec. 2, 2003

A funeral service for V. June (Watson) Hileman Grady, 79, of Heath, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home in Newark. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Mitch Van Metre officiating.

Mrs. Grady died Dec. 2, 2003, at the Ohio State University East Hospital. She was born June 3, 1924, in Newark, to the late James and Nellie (Cline) Watson.

She was a 1942 graduate of Newark High School, and a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Newark.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Grady of Heath; son, Timothy W. (Maggie) Hileman of Clearwater, Fla.; daughter, Jill (Darrell) Patterson of Gahanna; stepchildren, Joan (Bob) Davis of Newark, Kathy (Harry) Carr of Memphis, Mich., Carol Grady of Wapakonetta, James E. (Mary Ann) Grady Jr. of Newark, and Janet Aguilar of Toledo; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jack Hileman; and a sister, Marilyn.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.

Contributions requested to the Second Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Church St., Newark, Ohio 43055.

Emery Lee Brown

A memorial service for Emery Lee Brown, 49, of Newark, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Newark, 1000 Granville Road, with the Rev. Joe Leonard officiating.

Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mark Daniel Giffen

Oct. 10, 1958-Nov. 29, 2003

A graveside service for Mark Daniel Giffen, 45, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Giffen, a U.S. Navy veteran, died Nov. 29, 2003, at Arlington Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 10, 1958, in Santa Monica, Calif.

Surviving are his mother, Rachel Giffen of Newark; father, Robert Giffen of Newark; sisters, Tina Giffen and her husband, Charles, of Newark, and Penny Giffen of Newark; brothers, Robert and Michael Giffen of Newark; nephews, Jonathan, Nick, Chuck, Wesley and Daniel; and several nieces.

No calling hours will be observed.

Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

James M. Roller

Oct. 17, 1932-Dec. 3, 2003

A memorial service for James M. Roller, 71, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Second Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Church St., Newark, with the Rev. Dr. Mitch Van Metre officiating.

Mr. Roller, a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church, died Dec. 3, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Lima, to the late Roy and Vivian (Pettit) Roller.

He was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School and the OSU Pharmacy School in 1955.

He served in the Army from 1955-1957 and was stationed in Germany. He came to Newark in 1957 and bought Arensberg Pharmacy with his partner Glen Read. He retired from Arensberg Pharmacy in 1997 but continued to work part-time at his leisure.

Jim was a big Ohio State football fan. He only missed a handful of home games in over 50 years. He served his church as a deacon, an usher and a food pantry volunteer. He was also a longtime member of the Newark Kiwanis. Jim spent many hours with his friends at the Newark Maennerchor planning events and singing. He was a member of the Ohio State and the Licking County Pharmaceutical Associations.

Jim enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers, Fla., since 1998.

He will be missed by all.

Surviving are his wife, Margie (Thompson) Roller; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dave Luecke of Houston, Texas, and Mary Roller of Columbus; son, James S. Roller of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandsons, Trent and Jake Luecke; and brothers, Roy P. Roller of Carlisle, Ky., and Paul V. Roller of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church on Friday.

Marie Berry

Sept. 7, 1922-Dec. 3, 2003

A funeral service for Marie Berry, 81, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, with the Rev. William Wayt officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Berry died Dec. 3, 2003, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Coshocton County, to the late Everett and Mina (Dennis) Sells.

Mrs. Berry was a member of the Wright Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the United Methodist Women's group. She was a homemaker and had been a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Richard Goff of Newark; son, Richard E. Berry of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Brian (Kris) Yocum of Newark, and Gary Spicer of Middletown; great-grandchildren, Dean and Maggie Yocum; sister, Clara Foster of Coshocton; son-in-law, Jack Spicer of Lucasville; and several nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Berry, who died in 1983; by a daughter, Carol Spicer; one sister; and three brothers.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St.

Friedrich Fritz Rathgeb

March 28,1922-Dec. 2, 2003

A Mass of Christian Burial for Friedrich Fritz Rathgeb, 81, of Newark, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Penhallurick officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Rathgeb died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home in Newark. He was born March 28, 1922, in Ch-Wynau-Be, Switzerland, to the late Gotlieb and Marie (Herzig) Rathgeb.

Fritz was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the PIME Guild. He worked for many years as a clerk at Moore's Hardware Store, and later as a custodian at Wilson Middle School.

Friedrich is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha M. (Duppenthaler) Rathgeb of the home; and his sister, Lilly Graf of Geneva 1208, Switzerland.

Friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 66 Granville St., Newark, for one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Friday.

Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, is in charge of the arrangements.

Anthony Wilbur 'Tony' DiBlasio

Nov. 25, 1931-Nov. 30, 2003

A funeral service for Anthony Wilbur "Tony" DiBlasio, 72, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be observed.

Mr. DiBlasio, a 1949 graduate of Newark High School, died Nov. 30, 2003, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. He was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Newark, to Anna (Gualtieri) DiBlasio of Newark and the late Charles DiBlasio.

Mr. DiBlasio was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1951-55. He held the rank of Radioman Second Class. He was employed by the Rockwell Corp. for 32 years, retiring June 11, 1987 as a project engineer. He was a member of the Rockwell Retirees Club and was a lifetime board member for Babe Ruth Baseball.

Mr. DiBlasio was an October-May winter resident of Tarpon Springs, Fla., for the past 14 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Danley) DiBlasio, whom he married Dec. 22, 1951; son, David DiBlasio of Newark; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Wohlford of Newark, and Donna and Jim Brooks of Heath; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Jim) Richards, Garrett Wohlford, Chad DiBlasio, Danielle DiBlasio, Mason Wohlford, Jenna Brooks and Stephanie Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Christina Richards and Sidney Richards; brother and sister-in-law, John and Patti DiBlasio of Newark; and sister, Angela Duncan of California.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., where a Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or a charity of one's choice.

Ruth Peterson

Sept. 30, 1947-Dec. 2, 2003

A funeral service for Ruth Peterson, 56, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Richard L. Smyers officiating,

Mrs. Peterson died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. She was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Trion, Ga., to the late John Morgan and Francis (Braddy) Locklear.

She had been a resident of Newark since 1987. Ruth was a 1990 graduate of COTC College of Nursing and had been active in nursing since graduation. She was employed part time at Regency Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, where she loved to fill in odd hour shifts for other nurses.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon Peterson; daughters, Stacy Poulnott of Newark, and Glenda Autry of Chesterfield, Va.; stepdaughter, Tina Peterson of Bainbridge, Wash.; brother, Wayne Morgan of Summerville, Ga.; two sisters, Theresa Morgan and Becky Morgan, both of Summerville, Ga.; half-brother, Micky Hedrick of Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lonnie Wrye; daughter, Shirley Frances Wrye; and a half-brother, Don Hedrick.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggest contributions to COTC Nursing Scholarship Fund.
