Dean Frederick Hammond

Sept. 29, 1931-Jan. 31, 2003

A graveside service for Dean Frederick Hammond, 71, of Hebron, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria, with Rev. Wesley Baker officiating.

Mr. Hammond, who graduated from Hebron High School in 1949, died Jan. 31, 2003, at Heath Nursing Care Center. He was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Union Township, Ohio, to the late Dean Hammond and Elizabeth (Seymour) Hammond.

He worked for Union Township and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Hammond is survived by a sister, Eloise (Edgar) Lothes, of Hebron; nephews, Greg (Beth) Lothes and Stephen (Judy) Lothes; and many cousins.

No calling hours will be observed.

Henderson, Van Atta & Johnstown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

William R. Dresser

Nov. 3, 1929-Feb. 1, 2003

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for William R. Dresser, 73, of Granville.

Mr. Dresser died Saturday at his home. He was a professor of communications at Denison University from 1960-1993.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

McPeek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Earl T. 'Skipper' Barch Jr.

Dec. 22, 1957-Feb. 1, 2003

A graveside service for Earl T. "Skipper" Barch Jr., 45, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating.

Mr. Barch died Feb. 1, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1957, in Newark, to Naomi Barch of Newark, and the late Earl T. Barch Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Debra Barch of Newark; one sister and one brother-in-law, Lynda and Jim Stough of Newark; fiance, Jaime Roberts of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newark VFW or the American Heart Association.

Geraldine M. Dzierwa

Dec. 28, 1937-Feb. 1, 2003

A funeral service for Geraldine M. Dzierwa, 65, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Dzierwa, a homemaker, died Feb. 1, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. She was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Columbus, to the late James and Margie (Holley) Carruthers.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Vicki White of Buckeye Lake, Scott and Debbie Dzierwa and Jim and Janice Dzierwa, both of Newark; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Bill Parker of Spring Lake, N.C., and Peggy and Grant Collins of St. Louisville; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Kathy Carruthers, Jim Carruthers, and Bruce and Joan Carruthers, all of Pickerington; one sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Richard Price of Greenfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dzierwa, in 1999; and two sisters, Dona and Judy.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Esther Stage Fike

Jan. 1,1912-Jan. 31,2003

A graveside service for Esther Stage Fike, 91, of Cartersville, Ga., will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville, Ga., with the Rev. Leon Smith officiating.

Mrs. Fike, a retired accountant and a member of Disciples of Christ, died Jan. 31, 2003, at Cartersville Medical Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Newark, to the late Walter and Mabel (Cochran) Stage.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret "Peg" and Thomas L. Montgomery of Cartersville, Ga.; brother, Kenneth Stage of Dawsonville, Ga.; one grandson, Ron Montgomery and wife Yvonne; and two great-grandchildren, Becky and Erin Montgomery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Fike, in 1995; and a brother, Darrell Stage.

The Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Stephen M. Spaulding

Nov. 3, 1945-Feb. 2, 2003

A Mass of Christian burial for Stephen M. Spaulding, 57, of Covington, Ky., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, with the Rev. Timothy Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Spaulding, who worked for 23 years as a master control operator for Time-Warner Communications, died Feb. 2, 2003, in St. Luke East, Fort Mitchell, Ky. He was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Newark, to Myrtle (Zornes) Spaulding of Newark and the late Frank Spaulding.

Mr. Spaulding previously worked in the 1970s as a fifth-grade teacher at Blessed Sacrament, and was a former disc jockey for WCLT.

Mr. Spaulding was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Covington, Ky., a 1967 graduate of the College of St. Charles Borromeo, a 1963 graduate of St. Charles Prepatory School, and a 1959 graduate of Blessed Sacrament Elementary School.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Jacobs) Spaulding; daughters and son-in-law, Virginia and Dan Kenkel of Crescent Springs, Ky., and Holly and Barry Granger of Allen, Texas; his grandchildren, Brenton Kenkel, Patrick Kenkel and Bridgette Granger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Robert Farmer and Cecilia and Harold Hedrick, all of Newark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Elaine Spaulding and Michael and Sue Spaulding, all of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, prior to the service at the church.

The family requests memorials to Covington Latin High School, 21 East, Covington, Ky.

Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, is in charge of the arrangements.
