John W. Ross

Feb. 22, 1926-Aug. 3, 2003

A funeral service for John W. Ross, 77, of Granville, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Owl Creek Baptist Church, 4044 Owl Creek Church Road, Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Bob Heizer officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery, Utica.

Mr. Ross, who with his family owned and operated the Granville IGA, died Aug. 3, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Mount Vernon, to the late Ben and Mary (Brown) Ross.

Mr. Ross was a 1944 graduate of Gambier High School and served in the Counterintelligence Unit of the U.S. Army. He was the former owner of the Utica IGA and the L & J IGA, also in Utica.

Mr. Ross was a member of the Owl Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the Granville Rotary Club, Central Ohio Grocer Association and a former charter member of the Utica Sertoma Club.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Leta (Larason) Ross; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Glancy of Granville, and Nancy and Mike Frost of Fallsburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Ross of Minneapolis, Minn., Greg and Holly Ross of Granville, Geoffery and Lindsey Ross of Newark, and Andy and Lori Ross of Hanover; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-stepgranddaughter; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia and John Burkholder of Martinsburg, and Monna Carter of Mount Vernon; brother and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Ross of Loudonville, and Helen Ross of Mount Vernon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leland and Leona Larason of Mount Vernon, and Eileen and Carroll Biggs of Bladensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Ross.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville.

Ethel L. Rice

June 16, 1921-Aug. 3, 2003

A funeral service for Ethel L. Rice, 82, of Mount Vernon, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the North-Dilley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

Mrs. Rice, a former employee of Wise Jewelers, J.C. Penney and Uhlman's, died Aug. 3, 2003, at Knox Community Hospital. She was born June 16, 1921, in Fallsburg, to the late John and Lelia Bell (Wilson) Willey.

Mrs. Rice was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and attended the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vaughn C. Rice; one son, John C. (Sandra) Rice of Ottawa Lake, Mich.; two daughters, Carole A. Rice of Mount Vernon, and Esther P. (John) Adkins of Westerville; five grandchildren, Stephanie and John Rice, John C. Rummel, John Jay Adkins and Nicholas A. Argentiero; four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Ashlei Rummel, Andrew Adkins and Emma Grace Olrich; brother, Harold E. Willey of Newark; and sister, Mildred Toothman of Utica.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Russell and Glenn Willey; and two sisters, Helen Rector and Pauline Keller.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon.

Ruth Ann Lucas

Dec. 8, 1930-Aug. 3, 2003

A funeral service for Ruth Ann Lucas, 72, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucas, an avid bingo player, died Aug. 3, 2003, at Arlington Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Newark, to the late James and Adeline (Hall) McConnell.

Mrs. Lucas worked in housekeeping at Arlington Nursing Home for 10 years.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Lucas of Hebron and Joe Lucas of Newark; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Charles Maillie of Universal City, Texas, Mary Messina of Johnstown, and Kim and Steve Francis of Heath; grandchildren, Heather Maillie, Chassidy Messina Ryan, Lisa Messina, Michael Maillie, Gordon Maillie, Stacey Messina, Brett Lucas, Trevor Farmer, Jared Lucas, Jessica Richards, Maria Richards, Sara Lucas, Natasha Phillips, Cassandra D. Phillips, Steve Francis Jr. and Derek Francis; 13 great-grandchildren; best friend, Marjorie Hollingshead of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lucas; four brothers, Don, Al, Jim and Paul; and three sisters, Mary, Leona and Kathryn.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark.

The family requests memorials to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 Coffman Road, Newark.

Claire N. Robinson

May 15, 1925-Aug. 2, 2003

A funeral service for Claire N. Robinson, 78, of Pataskala, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Pataskala United Methodist Church, 458 S. Main St., Pataskala, with Pastor Wayne Zavotka officiating. Burial will follow in Pataskala Cemetery.

Mrs. Robinson, a member of Pataskala United Methodist Church, died Aug. 2, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. She was born May 15, 1925, in Unionville, N.Y., to the late Alan M. and Lettie (Cranston) Nugent.

Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Eastern Star and Quest Club.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gail (Tom) Lee of Pataskala, and Linda (John) Eisel of Hebron; two grandchildren, Thomas Howard (Jenny) Lee and Erin Lee; one great-granddaughter, Madison Lee; many stepgrandchildren; sister, Jeanette Meola of Middletown, N.Y.; brother, Tom Nugent of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. Robinson; brother, William C. Nugent; sister, Florence Smith; and nephew, Joe Howarth.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kauber-Miller Funeral Home in Pataskala.

G. Elizabeth 'Bickie' Stout

July 23, 2003

A celebration of the life of G. Elizabeth "Bickie" Stout, 92, of Newark, will be held at 7 p.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, Heath.

Mrs. Stout died July 23, 2003, at the Inn at Sharon Brooke.

Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Glenn Allen Trimble

April 7, 1927-Aug. 1, 2003

A memorial service for Glenn Allen Trimble, 76, of Granville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville, with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. A private graveside service will take place in Bethel Cemetery in Salem, Ky.

Mr. Trimble, a retired plastic molding engineer for the Western Electric Co. in Columbus, died Aug. 1, 2003, on his farm. He was born April 7, 1927, near Joy, in Livingston County, Ky., to the late Foster O. and Lura Ellen (Shouse) Trimble.

Mr. Trimble was a 1944 graduate of Livingston County High School and graduated in 1950 from the University of Kentucky with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a former employee of General Electric and International General Electric.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Trimble was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and the Woodworkers of Central Ohio. He was an avid farmer, raised cattle, maintained a vineyard and made champagne and wine.

He is survived by his children, Teresa Trimble Catlett, DVM, and her husband, Dr. Richard Catlett III of Boyce, Va., Patricia McCall Mooney and her husband, Mike, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marti McCall Rickett and her husband, Tom, of Columbus, and Dick McCall and his friend, Dixie Klamfoth of Orient; sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Ralph Preston of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Eugene E. Trimble of McKinney, Texas; sister-in-law, Cleo Branham Baker of Holly Springs, N.C.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, E. Jean (Branham) Trimble, who died May 6, 2003.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville.

Patricia Ann Welker-Harrison

June 7, 1932-Aug. 3, 2003

A funeral service for Patricia Ann Welker-Harrison, 71, of Zanesville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Myers officiating. Burial will be held in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrison, who was a teacher at Licking County Joint Vocational School, died Aug. 3, 2003, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House in Zanesville. She was born June 7, 1932, in Delphos, to the late Kenneth and Virginia (Pettit) Shumaker.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Harrison worked hard and was dedicated to many efforts and causes. She graduated from Findlay High School, attended Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and The Ohio State University. She had been employed by Dr. Anne C. Brown, M.D. and Dr. John W. Ray, M.D. She had been a Y-Teens advisor, MYF leader, youth choir director and wedding coordinator at the Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church and was involved in Welcome Wagon, Child Conservation League. She was active doing Red Cross blood drives in Licking County, enjoyed cooking large meals, working in her yard and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt and son Junior.

She is survived by her sons, Steve (Judi) Welker of Zanesville, and Doug Welker of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Jack (Barbara) Shumaker of Newark; grandchildren, Doug Welker of Zanesville and Amber Welker of San Diego; several close cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her dog, Willey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tom; husband, William C. Harrison; dog, Butch; and many other friends.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St.
