EMMA L. BARKER HUGGINS
Emma L. Barker Huggins, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., died Monday, Oct. 9 at her residence.
The eldest of four children, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. and Nellie G. Vancuren Barker and was the widow of Merle T. Huggins, who died in 1990.
After graduating from Logan High School, she moved to Mt. Pleasant and was employed at the Isabella State Bank in Mt. Pleasant. Later she graduated from Central Michigan College and was subsequently employed as a teacher and a librarian at Vestaburg Local School in Vestaburg, Mich. She was active in the retired teachers association and also served with the Meals-on-Wheels program.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Patricia Sue) Robinson; a sister, Jean L. Barker of Honolulu; two brothers, Phil A. (Mildred) Barker of Davis, Cal., and Vance (Rose) Barker of Whitehall; and a dear and faithful friend, Julie Laity of Rosebush, Mich.
In keeping with Huggins' wishes, she will be cremated and interred at Michigan State University's East Lawn Memory Gardens with her husband.
There will be no services.

FREDERICK A. KALISTER
Frederick A. Kalister, 61, Lancaster, died Thursday, Oct. 12 at his residence.
Son of the late Ferdinand and Louise Kalister, he was married to Melanie Kalister, who survives.
An associate professor Emeritus of English at Ohio University-Lancaster, he was the co-founder and gallery director of the Raymond S. Wilkes Gallery for the Visual Arts.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doug (Mari) Warburton of Dublin and Bethany Ashbaugh of Logan; and a son, Steve Kalister of Upper Arlington.
No calling hours will be observed. Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a memorial service at Ohio University-Lancaster at a later date.
The family suggests contributions be made in his memory to Hospice of Fairfield County.
Arrangements are by Halteman Fett and Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster.

FRANCES MAY WOODARD
Frances May Woodard, 94, Nelsonville, formerly of Logan, died Thursday, Oct. 12 at her residence.
Born Aug. 26, 1906, Tarlton, daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary Cordella Hiatt Kreider, she was married to Durward H. Woodard for 71 years, who survives.
A member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and Ewing Grange, she was a graduate of Gibisonville High School.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joel (Alice Louise) Christian of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Linda and Les Westfall, Marybeth and Larry Miner, Steve and Toni Grady, Cathy and Tom Burchell and Jeff and Michelle Brown; great-grandchildren, Lorinda and Bob LeClain, Craig Westfall, Stephanie Grady, Brandon Grady, Elyse Miner, John Brown, Amy Brown, Patrick Burchell and Johnathan Burchell; and a sister, Mary St. Clair of Logan.
She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Jane Brown, who died July 1, 1973, and Frances Ann Gratton, who died May 10; and three brothers, Paul, Michael and Ronald Kreider.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with Marguerite McGrady officiating.
Burial will be in New Fairview cemetery, Rockbridge.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Treemont Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.

GERALDINE NELSON DAVIS
Geraldine "Jerry" Nelson Davis, 67, Nelsonville, died Thursday, Oct. 12 at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born Feb. 15, 1933, Nelsonville, daughter of the late Elmer Floyd and Beatrice Marie Nelson Rutter, she was the widow of Reese Davis.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville.
Burial will be in Connett cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 Sunday at the funeral home.

ROBERT E. FRIEL
Robert E. Friel, 69, New Straitsville, died Thursday, Oct. 12 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.
Born Sept. 11, 1931, Somerset, son of the late Edward and Florence Hammer Friel, he was the widower of Ethel Dugger Friel.
A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass Company in Newark after 36 years. He also worked part-time for Dominošs Pizza and Super Thrift in Logan and was an avid gardener. Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Tipple of Lancaster, Mrs. Lawrence (Nancy) Danielson of Maxville, Mrs. Mearl (Rita) Kokensparger of New Lexington, Mrs. Chuck (Carolyn) Stoffel of Columbus and Mrs. George "Bill" (Rosie) Lee of New Lexington; two brothers, Joseph Friel and James (Mary) Friel of Orville; 26 nieces and nephews; 51 great-nieces and nephews; three great-great nieces and nephew.
He also was preceded in death by a nephew, Jeff Kokensparger.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church, New Lexington, with the Rev. John Metzger, celebrant, officiating.
Prayer service will be held 8 pm. Sunday at J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Shawnee.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, New Straitsville.
The family suggests contributions be made to Christ the King University Parish Building Fund, 75 Stewart St., Athens, Ohio 45701.

ROGER REED
Roger Reed, 57, Logan, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, following a brief illness.
He was the son of Juanita Reed of Logan and the late Russell Reed.
Also surviving is a daughter, Renett Fasnut, of Columbus.
He also was proceeded in death by a son, Roger Reed Jr.
Reed was buried in Glen Rest cemetery in Reynoldsburg, Wednesday.

EARNEST E. STEVENS
Earnest E. Stevens, 67, formerly of Creola, died Thursday, Oct. 12 at Berger Hospital, Circleville.
Born March 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Clayton Stevens and Verna Wine Stevens Starkey.
Surviving are five daughters, Darlene Sausman and Mrs. Mark (Joyce) Hunter, both of South Bloomingville, Mrs. Bobby (Charlotte) Payne and Lisa Stevens, both of Creola, and Uteva Stevens of Adelphi; four sons, Glendon and Wade Stevens, both of South Bloomingville, Larry (Crystal) Stevens of Commercial Point and Gilbert (Teresa) Stevens of Logan; a sister, Helen Phillips of The Plains; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Clifton Buck Stevens; a grandson, Clifton Farley Stevens; stepfather, Ben Starkey; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Chestnut Grove Church with the Rev. Charles Pritchard officiating.
Burial will be in Chestnut Grove cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

RACHEL KATHYRINE BARTOW
Rachel Kathyrine Bartow, 76, Logan, died Saturday, Oct. 14 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born March 31, 1924, Nelsonville, daughter of the late Ralph E. and Kathyrine Elizabeth "Maryellen" Strawn Hitchings, she was married to John Leffler Bartow, who survives.
Retired from Logan Goodyear Plant as a utility worker in 1983 after 18 years of service, she was the former secretary for the Logan Goodyear Retirement Club.
Also surviving are four sons, James F. (Joan) Bartow and Randy L. Bartow of Logan, Gary E. (Alice) Bartow of Hopkins, S. C., and Dale L. (Donna J.) Bartow of Newark; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Shirley) Hitchings of Cleveland, Tenn.; and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Rosezella) Shaw of Lancaster and Mrs. John (Evelyn) Bailey of Logan.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph John "Joe" Hitchings.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Roger L. Fidler officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1580 King Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212-2000 or to the Hocking County American Heart Association, c/o Deborah Keynes, 295 Midland Place, Logan, Ohio 43138.

PEARL E. DERR
Pearl E. Derr, 83, Luckey, died Sunday, Oct. 15 at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Village, Pemberville.
Born April 18, 1917, Logan, son of the late Charles and Mary Freasure Derr, he was married to Leona Butterfield Derr, who survives.
A railroad engineer for Conrail Railroad for 33 years, he retired in 1982; was a police officer in Logan; a WWII Army veteran; a member and former deacon of Perrysburg Church of Christ; a member of the American Legion Post 240 of Luckey; a member of the National United Transportation Union; and a former Boy Scout leader. He was inducted in 1983 into the Logan High School Hall of Fame for football.
Also surviving are three sons, James of Northwood, George of Goshen, Ind., and David of Luckey; a stepson, Philip Grear of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Celesta Grear of Woodhaven, Mich.; a sister, Mabel Fischbach of Maryland; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Purdum; two sons, Charles and Daniel; a sister, Gladys Groff; and a brother, Virgil.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perrysburg Church of Christ, Simmons Road, Perrysburg, with James Derickson officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Marsh Funeral Home, Luckey, and from 10 a.m. until the services Wednesday at the church.
The family suggest contributions be made to Perrysburg Church of Christ or Echo Meadows Church of Christ.

HAROLD KINNISON
Harold "Zeke" Kinnison, 67, Nelsonville, formerly of Murray City, died Sunday, Oct. 15 at his residence.
Born Oct. 19, 1932, Murray City, he was the son of the late Leslie and Maude Hughes Kinnison.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard unit.
Burial will be in Salem cemetery.
There will be no calling hours observed.

THEODORE KOCH
Theodore 'Ted' Koch, 92, Circleville, died Saturday, Oct. 14 at Berger Hospital, Circleville.
Born April 13, 1908, Ross County, son of the late William and Christina Georgens Koch, he was married to Mary S. Schaal Koch, who survives.
He was a corporal in Company F of the John Deere Battalion during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945, based in Camp Sutton, N.C. and Pomona, Calif. Later he served overseas in England and Belgium. He also was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of the BPOE #77, a lifetime farmer, a member of the Trinity Church Council, Scharenberg Board of the church and a member of the Pickaway Senior Center.
In August, he attended the final John Deere reunion in Moline, Ill., where he was honored as being the eldest member of the battalion present and for having attended every reunion. The John Deere Company sponsored 14 reunions for the men who served their country so proudly.
He spent many years of friendship with Benny Metzger and family, Don Miller and the Rev. John Mittermaier.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Terry (Janet S.) Whetstone of Springfield; a stepson, Roger (Jane) Schneider of Circleville; five grandchildren, Mrs. Dan (Lisa) Bealert of Springfield, Steven (Elizabeth) Whetstone of Pickerington, John (Terrie) Schneider of Pickerington, Mrs. Bob (Mary Jane) Freeh of Fremont and Christopher (Carrie) Schneider of Circleville; six step-great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews, Lloyd Koch, Richard Koch, Patty Koch, Eileen Arsenault, Betty Hyer, Rosemary Teets, Don Partlow, Norma Davis and Mary Catherine Childers.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mable Cline Koch, who died in 1975; five brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 E. Mound St., Circleville, with Pastor John Mittermaier and the Rev. Don Bachman officiating.
Burial will be in Concord Township cemetery, Frankfort.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 today at Defenbaugh-Wise Funeral Home, Circleville, and one hour prior to services at the church.
An Elk service will be held 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 E. Mound St., Circleville, Ohio 43113 or the Pickaway County Library, 165 E. Main St., Circleville, Ohio 43113.
