Margaret Dell Robson

Margaret Dell Robson, age 85, of Bellefontaine, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 5th, 2009, at her home.

A loving and devoted wife and mother, she worked side by side with her husband on their dairy and grain farm near East Liberty for many years.

She was a member of the North Greenfield United Methodist Church and was a 1941 graduate of Old Tribble High School in Hustburg, Tennessee where she was valedictorian and member of the girls’ state champion basketball team.

Affectionately known as “Granny” by her grandchildren and their friends Mrs. Robson will be remembered for her peanut butter pie, tomato gravy, apple dumplings and many other wonderful meals.

She enjoyed gardening and treasured time spent with her family.

She was born July 22, 1923, in Hustburg, TN, to the late Thomas B. and Nell Moore Dickerson.

She met her husband, William L. “Bill” Robson, in New Orleans and married him eight days after their first introduction on October 28, 1945.

They enjoyed 58 years of marriage, including 15 years in Park Rapids, Minnesota upon their retirement, before his death on October 8, 2003.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Thomas “Tom” Robson; and three brothers, Hilman, Jim Frank, and Thomas Dickerson.

Survivors include her children, William Robson, Occidental, CA; Susan Robson, West Mansfield; and Robert “Robbie” Robson, Bellefontaine; six grandchildren, Lauren Long, Mikki (Brad) Bates, Kyla Weaks, Andrea Hohlt, Derek Robson, and Brande (Jeff) Harshfield; nine great-grandchildren, Morgan Lockwood and Georgia & Clarissa Bates, Bridgitte and Kaiden Weaks, Payton Hohlt, and Justin, Tristin, and Dylin Harshfield; two sisters, Maxine (Ralph) Cunningham and Joan (Bobby) Waggoner, each of New Johnsonville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Mark & Sherrie Eischens and their children, Brad, Nicole, & Katie, all of Park Rapids, MN.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Greenfield United Methodist Church, 9609 Co. Rd. 2, West Mansfield.

Reverend Max Jackson will officiate and burial will take place at North Greenfield cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Contributions may be made to Universal Hospice in care of Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, 222 West Center St., West Mansfield, OH 43358, who is serving the family.

E. Elizabeth Potee Whitney

E. Elizabeth Potee Whitney, age 94, of West Mansfield died peacefully Friday, April 3, 2009, at her home.

A loving and supportive wife and mother, she was a lifelong member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church and was a 75 year member of Harriett Chapter #252, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Whitney graduated from West Mansfield High School and studied Animal Husbandry at The Ohio State University where she met her husband.

She fondly enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was born October 15, 1914, in Bokescreek Township to the late Chester A. and Elsie Day Potee.

She married Charles E. Whitney on September 15, 1940, at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death on February 13, 2007.

Survivors include four children, John (Gloria) Whitney, Benicia, CA; Judy Kathary, Urbana; Jean Newell, Palmdale, CA; and Joyce (James) Ross, Kenton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield.

An Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service officiated by Reverend David Wilson.

Burial will take place at York cemetery, York Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Universal Hospice or West Mansfield United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Gordon Lee Taylor

Gordon Lee Taylor, age 65, of rural Raymond, formerly of West Mansfield died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, in the comfort of his own home with his daughters and family at his side following an extended illness.

He was a retired supervisor with Premier at Honda and formerly served as a supervisor with Day Lay Eggs.

Gordon proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

He enjoyed the Sci-Fi Channel, Animal Planet, and Fox News but nothing brought him more joy than his family’s weekly Sunday tradition of gathering for a meal and playing cards.

Affectionately known as “Papaw”, he was a devoted and loving husband and grandfather.

He was born August 14, 1947, in Urbana to the late George and Anna Sprinkle Taylor.

He married Bonnie Lou Miller on August 17, 1969, and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2006.

He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Berniece Spellman and Goldie Simpson.

Survivors include his five daughters, Lisa (Marvin) Foreman, York Center; Sally (Allen) Ziegler, Lakeview; Angie Mathys, Raymond; and Tina (Robert) Cotterman and Elizabeth (Jeremy) Mathys, each of West Mansfield; 10 grandchildren, Michael & Bethany Foreman, Lashia, Zach, and Allie Ziegler, Aaliyah Miller, Samantha, Megan, and Kelsey Cotterman, and Alexander Mathys; a sister, Ruby Stroud, Lakeview; 4 brothers, Tommy (Gloria) Taylor, Bellefontaine; Ralph (Gwen) Taylor, Urbana; Steve (Judy) Taylor, Marysville; and Kenny (Shirley) Taylor, Tennessee; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where the funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Brother Carroll Mathys will officiate and burial with military honors will take place at a later date at Greenlawn cemetery following cremation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Marilyn D. Bailey Clingerman

Marilyn D. Bailey Clingerman, 83, of East Liberty, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, surrounded by her daughters.

Born November 23, 1931 in East Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Rev. A. Erwin and Mabel (Orahood) Bailey.

On October 18, 1950 in Hayesville, Oh she married Edward A. Clingerman in a ceremony performed by her father’s twin brother, the Rev. T. Corwin Bailey.

Edward died on January 16, 1977.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dayna Lyn Clingerman in 1966.

Surviving are her daughters, Daria (James Doolittle) Roberts and Robin (Roger) Goff of West Mansfield, and Rory LeVan of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Brandon (Melony) Roberts of Rushsylvania, Dustin (Wendy) Roberts and Ciara Goff of West Mansfield, Cheyenne and Raistlyn LeVan of Bellefontaine, Renee (Jason) Hughes, Robyn Jackson and Ronda (Eric) Blackman; great grandchildren, Mason, Landon, Mike (Erica), Hayden, Reise, Rylee, Cole, Caleb, Bailey, Skylar, Riley, Sidney, Peyton, Elizabeth, Elijah and Addie; great, great grandchildren, Morgan, Elijah and Kameron; sister-in-law, Maxine Clingerman, sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Howell Geeslin, Aunt Helen and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn graduated from East Liberty High School in 1949 and attended Office Training School in Columbus.

She first worked in the office for Equity Dairies in Bellefontaine, then at the City Building in Bellefontaine, the utilities department.

Later she worked in the outpatient and business office at Mary Rutan Hospital until she retired at the end of 1996.

She enjoyed family get-togethers, craft shows, sailing, reading, vacations at Jekyll Island, Georgia, OSU Football and watching her grandchildren play soccer, volleyball and football.

She was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church and former member of the E. L. Liberty Belle Club and Wood-Rosebrook American Legion Auxiliary, Post #745.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the East Liberty cemetery with Reverend Vernagaye Sullivan officiating.

No calling hours will be observed.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home 222 West Center St. West Mansfield, OH 43358.

Rev. Jon Henley Cook

Rev. Jon Henley Cook, 79, of Kenton and former minister of the East Liberty United Methodist Church, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Church in Columbus.

Born June 20, 1935 in Struthers, he was the son of the late Carl M. and Marie V. (Henley) Cook of Poland, OH.

A 1953 graduate of Springfield Local High School, he went on to attend Bluffton College and the University of Texas.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962.

After serving his country, he worked in computer software and the life insurance industry before being called to minister in 1989.

He became a Pastor in the United Methodist Church, serving several churches until 2013.

He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Benton, Arkansas.

He enjoyed singing, golfing, bowling, gardening and traveling but his biggest joy was to spend time at home with his family and to serve his church families.

Jon first married Nancy Lou (Evans) in 1956 and she preceded him in death March of 1997. In late 1997, he married ViAnn LeVan and she also preceded him in death in October of 2012.

Surviving are his children, Donnell (Lori) Cook of Mechanicsburg, Kevin Cook of Wooster and Stacey (Steve) Dye of Kenton; step children, April (Ray) Pulfer of Bellefontaine, Sheri (Tim Tevis) Costin of West Mansfield and Charles LeVan of West Liberty; grandchildren, Kelley Gibson and Taylor Hodge of Bellefontaine, Clay LeVan of West Liberty, Coltin Costin of West Mansfield, Connor and Caiden Dye of Kenton, Josh Cook of Springfield, Jacob Cook of South Dakota and a sister, Judy (Richard) Maurer of Sunbury.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Caleb Costin and a sister, Kathleen Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the East Liberty United Methodist Church 11824 SR 287 East Liberty, OH 43319 with Reverend VernaGaye Sullivan and Reverend Jon Silveous officiating.

Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.

Burial will take place at a later date in the North Greenfield cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home 222 West Center St West Mansfield, OH 43358.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in care of the funeral home.
