He was a self taught bassoonist, oboist and saxophonist; playing in the Lima Symphony Orchestra, The Dayton Symphonic Orchestra and the Sidney Kiwanis Band and the Ohio Kiwanis Band in his younger years.
He was a 32 degree Mason and received his seventy-five year award from Stokes Lodge #305 F&AM, Port Jefferson, Ohio

He and his wife, Ruth held various offices in the Eureka Chapter O.E.S. #136, Jackson Center, Ohio
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and the family spent many years at their cottage at Turkey Foot on Indian Lake. In his later years, he spent a lot of time on his CB Radio
