Virginia R. Wentzel

Virginia R. Wentzel, 84, (nee Schaefer) passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Gaymont Nursing Home in Norwalk following a brief illness.
Mrs. Wentzel was born in Detroit, MI on December 6, 1925, the daughter of the late Theodore J and Ruth E ( nee Young) Schaefer. She was a graduate of Avon Lake High School Class of 1945. She was a member of the former Euclid Avenue Baptist Church; where she taught Sunday School and was active with the Pioneer Girls. In Norwalk, she attended the Norwalk Alliance Church.
Following her marriage to her late husband Otto, she resided in Lorain for 50 years. They moved to Norwalk in 1997. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers, National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees # 144 in Lorain, Women's Missionary Society and several church youth groups.
Mrs. Wentzel had been employed by the American Monorail Company in Lakewood and worked as a billing clerk and Floral Designer at Zelek Floral Shop in Lorain. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, painting, travel, music, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is the beloved mother of Judith M. Bohland, Jeanne M. Beckler both of Lorain, Allen O Wentzel of Harriet, Arkansas, loving grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 12.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Otto F. Wentzel in 2003, one sister, 3 brothers.
There is no visitation and services will be private.
Entombment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 State Route 250 S, Norwalk, Ohio 44857 or Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870-5598.

Howard W. Wurgler

Howard W. Wurgler, 66 of Amherst died early Tuesday morning, Feb 2, 2010 at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Wurgler was born in Youngstown on October 2, 1943, the son of the late Elmer E and Dorthea (nee Chamberlain) Wurgler. He served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam era. He was a retired machinist from Southern Carbide.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Audrey B. (nee Furin) Wurgler, daughters Sherry A ( John) Devereaux of Wellington, Samantha M. (Jeff) Jones of Amherst, sons Edward W (Rhonda) Wurgler of Medina, Rodney L. (Keisha) Wurgler of St. Louis, MO, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters Carole Kinder of Laurenburg, NC., Beverly Barrows of Bradenton, FL., brothers Robert Wurgler of Seville, and Frederick Wurgler of Leesburg, FL.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Richard Wurgler.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, Feb 4, 2010 from 5:00 pm until services at 7:00 PM. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, with Rev. Tom Kinder officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be on Friday, FEB 5, 2010 at 10:30 am in the Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio 44270.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, C/O Community Health Partners Foundation 3700 Kolbe Road Lorain, OH 44053-9905.

Muriel B. Wyman

Muriel B. Wyman, 84, (nee Rehm) of Lakeland Florida, formerly of Lorain died on Friday, May 28, 2010 in Lakeland following a long illness.
She was born on January 25, 1926 in Cleveland to the late Harry M. and Ann (nee Franklin) Rehm. She moved to Lorain as a small child.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School in the class of 1944.
Mrs. Wyman was active in her children's elementary schools, serving as president of the PTA of each of the schools that her children attended.
She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for Frank-Seringer & Chaney for 16 years. She then retired in 1985 from what is now known as Fred's Rail Service.
Mrs. Wyman is an associate member Agudath B'Nai Israel Synagogue in Lorain. She was a life time member of Hadassah. She was active in all the ladies groups of the synagogue and a member of the Sisterhood.
After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home for 4 years, settling in Florida.
In Lakeland, Ms. Wyman was a full member of the Temple Emanuel of Lakeland and very active: serving in whatever capacity she was needed.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Marvin Wyman, daughter Beth (Robert) Tully of Eighty Four PA, Mark (Barbara) Wyman of Lorain, Scott (Diana) Wyman of Fort Wayne IN, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a sister Beth Frankle of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Graveside services will be today, Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Salem cemetery with Cantor David Wolinski, officiating.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Agudath B'Nai Israel Synagogue, Post Office Box 3188, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Mary K. Wyvill

Mary "Kristy" Wyvill, 57 (nee Owens) of Lorain passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center in Lorain, after a sudden illness.
Kristy was born in Lorain on August 19, 1952, the daughter of the late Russell J. Owens and Ulla O. (nee Olson) Owens Long, who survives.
She was a graduate of Lorain HS, Class of 1970, and attended Ohio State University. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lorain. She was active in AA, the Avon Lake PTA and many other community functions. Kris enjoyed entertaining, traveling and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.
Kris is survived by daughter Britany A. Petty of Lakewood, son William "Zach" Webb of Austin, TX, mother and step father Ulla and Robert Long of Lorain, brothers Russell "Rusty" (Denise) Owens of Vermilion, David (Rita) Owens of Waynesboro, VA., Jonathon (Susan) Owens of Medina, loving aunt of Sam Owens, Patrick Owens, Calise "Callie" Owens, and Ava "Gabor" Owens, aunt Mary Bors (Kimmel) of Amherst, and cousin Kyle Gaskell.
She was preceded in death by her loving husbands William Webb in 2000, Robert Wyvill in 2005, father Russell Owens in 1982, and cousin Edie Gae Dandrea 2007
Friends are invited to call Sunday, February 14, 2010 from 2-7 PM at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 Fifth Street, Lorain Ohio.
A Celebration Of Her Life will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lorain, with Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Helen Baker

Helen Baker, 92 (nee Vigg) died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at the Welcome Nursing Home In Oberlin following a brief illness.
Mrs. Baker was born in Lorain on September 29, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Fannie (nee Shay) Vigg. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife and a homemaker.
She was a member of the Hungarian Reformed United Church Of Christ in Lorain.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter Marilyn (James) Konowal of Huntington Beach, CA, granddaughters Kim (John) Kosonovich, Jennifer (Shaun) Geiger, Meghan Baker, grandsons Jerod (Emily) Konowal, David (Katie) Baker, great grandchildren, Olivia Kosonovich, Mia Baker, Henry Baker, Charlotte Baker and one brother James Vigg of Clearwater, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Horace in 1980, a son David A. Baker in 1979, sisters: Elizabeth Brunner, Margaret Kiska, Ethel Cullen, Pearl Mitchell, Louise Chet, brothers: John Vigg and Stephen Vigg.
Services were private conducted by her pastor Rev. Peter J. Toth, of the Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ with burial in Elmwood cemetery.
Arrangements being handled by the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.

Eileen A. Shaffer

Eileen A. Shaffer, 82, (nee Haas) of Lorain passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a long illness.
Mrs. Shaffer was born in Lorain on June 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (nee Marren) Haas.
A lifelong resident of Lorain, she graduated from St. Mary High School 1945. She also graduated from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and began her career as a licensed practical nurse. She retired from Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin in 1992 after 16 years service.
The love of her life was her family and being a wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Roy E. Shaffer, a daughter Mickey E. Teleha of Amherst, sons John P. Shaffer of Sheffield Lake, Mark E. (Doris) Shaffer of Lorain, two grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her brother Raymond Haas of Elyria.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by a sister Theresa Gere.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 6-9 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain and again on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in the funeral home from 10 am until services at 11 am. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park cemetery Amherst Township, OH.

David L. Koch

David L. Koch, 90, of Birmingham passed away suddenly, Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at the St. Mary of the Woods Retirement Community in Avon.
David was born in Lorain on October 26, 1919, the son of the late Curt F. and Emma (nee Hauer) Koch. He spent most of his life in Lorain, graduating from Lorain High School with the Class 1937 B. After his graduation, he went to work for Pittsburgh Steamship Co for the next 19 years, working up to 2nd mate officer. During the winter months when "lakers" were laid up he worked at the family grocery and meat store, except during the war, when he served with the Merchant Marines.
He then retired and began a career with the B. F. Goodrich (nka Polyone) and after 25 years of service again retired.
David's enjoyed his retirement years by working on his farm in Birmingham. where he has lived for the past 41 years. He also loved to shop.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Ingrid G. (nee Reibe) Koch, living at St. Mary of the Woods , a son Michael J
(Ulrike "Linda") Koch of Wellington, grandsons Jurgen & Kristoff Koch, and a sister Martha M. (Dean) Kelble of Avon Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Marguerite L. Csutoras and a brother Curt A. Koch.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.
Per his instructions, his cremated remains will be scattered in Lake Superior, knowing that water from Lake Superior flows into all of the Great Lakes, thus being in the Lakes that he loved so much.
