Harvey B. Smith, Jr

Harvey B. "Slim" Smith, 82, of Lorain passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a long illness.
Mr. Smith was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on September 19, 1928, the son of the late Harvey B and Erma Margaret (nee Powell) Smith. He was a 1946 graduate of Triadelphia High School in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He earned the World War II Victory Medal. He has been a resident of Lorain since 1952.
He retired from U.S. Steel as a #2 seamless turn foreman on October 31, 1983.
Mr. Smith was a member of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, Lorain, serving as secretary, deacon and trustee. He also was a member of the AARP #3318 serving as president, treasurer, and secretary. He was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #350. He enjoyed trains, restoring antique sewing machines, gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary E. (nee Fleming) Smith; sons David W. (Patricia) Smith of Brandon, FL, Gilbert L. (Cyndi) Smith of Crestwood, KY and Paul H. (Tracey) Smith of Oberlin, grandchildren Graciano Etrata, Louis Etrata, Dawn Smith, Cody Smith, 13 great grandchildren and sister Lois McAfee of Wheeling, WV, .
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Carol England.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 4 until 7 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Avon, with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post # 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 451.
The family suggest that memorial contribution may be made to Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Building Fund, 940 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Alice E. Cecil

Alice E. Cecil, 95, (nee McCartney), of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion, in Vermilion, following a long illness.
Mrs. Cecil was born in Lorain on August 24, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Hannah (nee Rock) McCartney. She was a graduate of Lorain High School and a member of the National Honor Society.
She was a member of Christian Temple-Disciples of Christ. In 1973, she retired from the Lorain Public Library system following 15 years service.
Alice was a wonderful, hard working person who unselfishly lived life in the moment and appreciated simple things in life. She enjoyed her pets, reading, sewing, cooking, being a good friend and neighbor. She was gifted in making people smile by telling family stories. Loving her family was most important in her life.
She is survived by her daughters Judy Kidd, with whom she made her home, Jeannie (Cliff) Merritt of Granville, a son Richard (Nancy) Cecil of Lorain, grandchildren, Craig Cecil, Cathy Sprunger, Curt Cecil, Jeff Merritt, Julie Tisdale, Brian Merritt and great grandchildren, Matthew Cecil, Chad Cecil, Christy Cecil, Ethan Springer, Jordan Sprunger, David Cecil, Emma Cecil, Molly Cecil, Kyah Merritt, Zeah Meritta, Nolah Cecil, Tyler Tisdale, Sophia Merritt and Samuel Merritt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Orlando Cecil in 1993, a twin sister Agnes Cecil, brothers James McCartney, Thomas McCartney, Alex McCartney, Robert McCartney, David McCartney, and Bill McCartney.
Friends may call on Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2011 from 4-7 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral Services will be Monday, June 6, 2011 in the funeral home with Rev. Vicki McGaw, pastor of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park cemetery, Amherst Township.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Temple-Disciples of Christ Church, P.O. Box 840, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Daniel R. Coates

Daniel R. Coates, 86, of Lorain passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness.
Mr. Coates was born in Lorain on August 28, 1925, the son of the late Clarence D. Coates and Mary "May" H (nee Taylor) Coates Shelton.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1943-B and the University of Miami in Florida in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, earning the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the American Area medal.
Mr. Coates was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria.
He worked as a civil engineer at Ford Motor Corp in Brookpark for 25 years: retiring in 1981. He worked previously for the US Steel Co and American Shipbuilding Co.
Mr. Coates was a member of the American Legion Post 30, the NRA and AARP. He enjoyed photography, citizens ban radio and most of all, spending time with wife and family including his dog Zoey. He was a former Boy scout troop leader.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice M. (nee Mason) Coates, daughters, Phyllis C. (Fay) Grose, of Lisbon, Sandra (John) Lynn Kenzik of Lorain, son, Daniel R. (Susan J.) Coates, Jr, also of Lorain, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 11:00 am until Funeral Services at noon in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of the Christian Temple-Disciples of Christ.
Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and the VFW Post 451.

Mae Virginiga McGlumphy

Mae McGlumphy, 96, (nee Rose) of Lorain was called home on Sunday, April 3, 2011, while in the care of the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain.
Mrs. McGlumphy was born in McMechen, WVA on May 2, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Ethel (nee Dean) Rose. She has been a resident of Lorain since 1990.
She was a member of First Christian Church of McMechen West Virginia. An active member; she taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a Sunshine Lady. She attended the Community United Methodist Church of Elyria.
Mrs. McGlumphy was the retired owner of a "corner" grocery store in West Virginia and for many years worked as a private duty LPN.
She was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. At both the local level and state level, she held the offices of President, secretary, and treasurer. She was an active leader with the Girl Scouts of America.
Mrs. McGlumphy is survived by her sons Rev. John (Evelyn) McGlumphy of Sheffield Lake, Mack (Susan) McGlumphy of Springfield, VA, daughter Sharon Nickerson of Lorain, 11 grand children, 11 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. McGlumphy on September 25, 1992, stepson George McGlumphy, brother Delmont Rose and a sister Edna Farley.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 7-9 p.m.
Additionally friends may call on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechan Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, West Virginia 26031 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Altmeyer Funeral Home in McMechen with her son, Rev. John W. McGlumphy officiating assisted by Rev. Rodney Hubbs, pastor of the First Christian Church in McMechen.
Burial will be in the Halcyon Memorial Park in McMechen.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 30 Fourth Street, McMechen, WVA 26040.

Michael Joseph Mealey

Michael J Mealey, 54, of Lorain, died unexpectedly in the emergency room of Mercy Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 16th, 2011, despite the heroic efforts of members of the Lorain Police Department and Lifecare EMS personnel,.
He was born in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts on October 20th, 1956 to James and Rita (Leydon) Mealey. As a young boy his family moved to Sheffield Lake, where Michael graduated from Brookside High School with the class of 1975.
Michael worked for General Motors in Elyria for 10 years, until they closed. He was then hired by the Ford Motor Company, Avon Lake Assembly Plant, where he worked as a team leader in the paint department for the past 24 years.
He married the love of his life, Randi (Krieg) Mealey on August 2nd, 1980 and settled in Lorain, where they raised a son and a daughter. He was an avid golfer and golfed on the St. Anthony’s Wednesday night league at Fox Creek Golf Club. Together with his wife, he loved to travel, with his favorite destinations being Key West, the Caribbean, and taking cruises. Michael and his wife just returned from a trip to Key West last week. However, his proudest accomplishment was the success of his children Airyn and Michael, and he was always happy to help them in any way he could. They truly were the light of his life.
Michael was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Randi (Krieg), daughter Airyn Christine of Lorain, and son Michael James of Lorain. He is also survived by his mother Mary Rita (Leydon) Mealey of Avon Lake, sister Maureen (Joseph) Novotny of Lorain, brothers James (Debbie) of Susanville, CA, Thomas (Susan) of Avon Lake, Patrick (Betty) of Quincy, CA, John of Cleveland, as well as 7 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 grand nephew, and 3 grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his father James Thomas Mealey in September of 1984.
Family, friends, and loved ones may call Wednesday July 20th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 21st at 10 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, Lorain, Oh.
If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in Michael’s memory.
His wife and children feel blessed to have shared 30 wonderful years with Mike.

William C. Cramer Sr.
9/28/55-9/6/2011

William Cramer of Lorain Ohio passed away Sept 6, 2011 unexpectedly at the age of 55. He leaves behind wife Minnie, his beloved sons: Adam (Angela) Cramer of Mayfields Hts, Chris (Melinda) Cramer of Lorain, beloved brothers: Rick Conner of Hyndman PA, Kenneth Cramer of Cleveland, Jesse Cramer of Mantua, beloved sisters: Barbara Schrimsher of Hamilton AL and Darlene Varney of Lake Worth FL.
He has left behind his 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Boyer & Cool Funeral Home, 1124 W. 5th Street Lorain Ohio 44052. Phone # 440-244-5288 No services will be held.

Daniel Paul Dancik

Daniel P. Dancik, 57, of Lorain passed away on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 in the Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
Mr. Dancik was born in Lorain on November 28, 1953, the son of the late William P. Dancik and Dorothy M. (nee Svat) Dancik of Lorain, who survives him.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School in the Class of 1972. He was a United States Marine veteran serving during the Viet Nam War.
Mr. Dancik was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain and had been employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad.
In addition to his mother, He is survived by a daughter Bianca N. (James ) Dancik of Cleveland, a son Brian C. (Samantha) Dancik of Lorain, grandchildren Trinity Dancik, Sophia Dancik, a sister sister Patricia A Dancik also of Lorain and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Preceding him in death, as well as his father, are sisters Kathleen A Smetana, and Mary A Phares.
Graveside services will be on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio 44270.
