Patricia L. Maynard

Patricia L. Maynard, 56 (nee DeWitt) died on Friday, July 15, 2005, at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH following a brief illness.
Mrs. Maynard was born on September 3, 1948, in Dunbar, PA and has lived in Lorain for the past 52 years. She was a 1966 graduate of Lorain High School. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Church On The North Coast. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, decorating her home, helping others and shopping.
Mrs. Maynard is survived by her husband David A. Maynard to whom she was married on Nov. 25, 1967, her daughter, Nicole L. Giusti of Chesapeake, VA, son, Christopher S. Maynard of Chesapeake, VA , 2 grandchildren, sisters Audrey Brown of Plymouth, MI, Barbara Meier of Lorain, OH, brothers Barry DeWitt, Dwayne DeWitt, Ronnie DeWitt, Virgil DeWitt all of Lorain, and brother Roger DeWitt of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence E. and Betty L. (nee White) DeWitt, sisters Doris Mendiola, and Peggy Waslewski.
Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Monday, July 18, 2005, from 10:00 am until funeral time at 12:00 PM. Minister Greg Ball, assistant pastor at the Church of The North Coast will officiate.

Michelle McCartney

Michelle McCartney, 62, of Elyria, passed away Monday, September 12, 2005, at home, following a four year battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family when her Lord called her home. She was born October 18, 1942 in Long Beach, California and lived
many places including Bermuda, Germany, Texas and Maine before settling in Lorain with her family 38 years ago.
Mrs. McCartney enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Church in Lorain and recently was an original member of her cancer support group at the Ireland Cancer Center. She was a true inspiration to her group.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Dennis, also of Elyria; daughter, Roberta (Mitch) Mitchell of Elyria; Denise (Rick) Woodward of Lorain; son, Dennis Michael (Wyvonnejenne) McCartney of Oxford, Pennsylvania; daughter, Melissa (Brian) Barker of Lorain; and sister, Pat (O’Hara) Mauceri of Reston, Virginia. Michelle was proud to be the grandmother of Amber, Amanda, Cody, Karlie, DJ, Madison, Christian (Mister) and Caleb (Bubba). She was preceded in death by her parents Eve and Fred Rainey, of Redding, California; father, Robert Wellman, of California; sister, Linda and grandson Zachary in 2000.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals at 1124 Fifth Street in Lorain, where services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday. Pastor Bruce McCartney, nephew and pastor at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama will officiate, assisted by Rev. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of Christian Temple Disciples Of Christ. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Lorain.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035-1051, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 5000 Rockside Road, Suite 310, Independence, Ohio 44131 or New Life Hospice, c/o Community Health Partners Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053-9905.

Erma J. Merschdorf

Erma J. (nee Crone) Merschdorf, 96 of Elyria formerly of the Ashland-Mansfield area died on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Elyria Methodist Village in Elyria, OH following a brief illness.
Mrs. Merschdorf was born on October 25, 1908, in Hayesville, OH and graduated from Loudonville High School. After her marriage she moved to Mansfield where she lived the majority of her life. She had been employed at the Reed Department Store in downtown Mansfield. She then worked for Westinghouse Corp, retiring in 1973 with more than 25 years as an addressograph operator. She moved to northern Lorain County eleven years ago.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, the Ruth Circle and Westinghouse Retiree's. In Lorain, she was a member of Wimodaughsis. She enjoyed traveling, especially her thirteen trips to Hawaii, crocheting, knitting, cooking and interacting with people.
Mrs. Merschdorf is survived by her son, Richard M. Merschdorf of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 4 grandchildren and her caregivers and nieces Sue Kayle of Lorain, Nancy Stark of Vermilion and Virginia Darrah of Louisville, KY.
She is preceded in death by her husband Martin Merschdorf in Feb 2, 1959, daughter Karen Reinehr in 1981, her parents Thomas and Nettie (nee McKinley) Crone, sisters Kathryn Bunting and Mildred Neiding.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel in the Elyria Methodist Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, OH 44035, with Chaplain Beth McKee officiating.
Graveside services will be on Friday, May 20, 2005, at 1:00 PM in Mansfield Memorial Park cemetery, Mansfield with Rev. Charles E. Tobias, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield officiating.

Alice R. Metz

Alice R. Metz (nee Copper), 84 of Lorain died early Saturday morning, December 10, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
Mrs. Metz was born in McKeesport, PA on October 3, 1921. She was a graduate of the McKeesport High School. She has lived in Lorain since 1945.
She was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Lorain and a homemaker.
Mrs. Metz is survived by a daughters: Dr. Susan Metz of Lorain, son: Fred G. Metz of Vermilion, 1 granddaughter and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Metz on Sept 15, 2001, her parents Frederick and Anna (nee Bissell) Copper and a sister Jane Hohing.
There is no visitation and services are private. Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, rector of the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer will officiate.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.

Raymond J. Mize

Raymond J. Mize, 81 of Lorain died Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center-Wade Park Division after a brief illness.
Mr. Mize was born in Lorain, OH on August 12, 1924, and was a life long resident. He was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1942 B and Bowling Green State University with a BS in Business in 1954. He was a member of St. Mary Church Lorain, OH.
He served in the US Army during WW II and received the American Theater Ribbon and the EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars.
He was a charter member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Committee. He was Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985. He was a member of the I.A.V. Post # 1, Amvets in Amherst, member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Inducted in 1985, member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and played minor league baseball with the St. Louis Cardinal's Franchise.
He was a member of the Rebman's Senior Golf League and enjoyed all sports.
He retired as a deputy auditor at Lorain County Auditor's Office Elyria, Ohio. He had also been employed by National Tube, All American and Kohlmyers Sporting Goods Stores.
He is survived by his wife Donna L. (nee Fisher) Mize to whom he was married on Sep 6, 1958, Son(s): Thomas J. Mize of Lorain, Ohio, Christopher J. Mize of Lorain, Ohio, 4 grandchildren: Sarah, Mary, Patrick, Daniel and brother: Stanley Mize of Lorain, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, sisters; Harriet Homola and Betty Matijasic.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 8, 2005, from 10:00 AM until the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM in St. Mary Church, Eighth & Reid Avenues, Lorain, OH, with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, 307 7th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Lillian (nee Eberhardt) Novinger

Lillian (nee Eberhardt) Novinger, 85 of Lorain passed away on Monday, April 25, 2005 at Community Health Partners & Surgical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Novinger was born on March 25, 1920 in South Amherst and lived in the Lorain area all her life. She was a 1938 graduate of South Lorain High School.
She had been employed at the Clarkin's Store, Vermilion Valley Plaza on the turnpike and the Morning Journal.
Mrs. Novinger enjoyed watching sporting events on TV and watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events. She also crocheted.
She is survived by her son James D Novinger of Sheffield Village, daughters Toni Klima, Patty Jo Diso, Amy Bozsoki all of Lorain, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Novinger in 1982, brothers Edward Eberhardt, William Eberhardt, Fred Eberhardt, Arthur Eberhardt, Albert Eberhardt and sisters Edith Chismar and Clare Eberhardt.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052 on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Carl Richter, senior pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating

Harold L. Nuhn

Harold L. Nuhn, 94 of Fostoria formerly of Lorain died Sunday, November 20, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria after a long illness.
Mr. Nuhn was born on November 14, 1911, in Vermilion and lived here most of his life. He was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain. He was very active in the church and served on the Church Council. He owned and operated the Nuhn Painting & Decorating until his retirement in 1973.
Following his retirement he moved to Tucson, Arizona where he and his wife shared their time between their home in Tucson and their home in Hillside, Colorado. In Tucson he was a member of the Painted Hills United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Katherine M. (nee Pratsch) Nuhn, daughter Marian K. Binder of Helena, Ohio, son Rev. Robert W. Nuhn of Providence, Utah, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a sister Mildred Binder of Lorain.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at 11:00 AM in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park cemetery, Amherst Township. The Reverend Philip Kunz, pastor of the St. John United Church Of Christ, will officiate.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 725 Columbus Ave. Fostoria, Ohio 44830.
Arrangements are being handled by the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
