William Smith
William Smith, 90, of Medina, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Medina General Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1910, in Medina and was a lifetime county resident. Mr. Smith was a member of United Church of Christ, Congregational and served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Melva (nee Hart) Smith, and brother, Robert.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina. Dr. Theodore Elsenheimer will officiate.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Medina County Historical Society, 206 N. Elmwood Ave., Medina, 44256.

Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Natalie Staton
Natalie Staton, 99, of Sharon Center, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001.

Mrs. Station lived in Sharon Center most of her life and was the owner of the Sharon Center Restaurant throughout the '50s. She published a book of poetry after her retirement entitled "Come Back Tomorrow."

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Louis F. and Linda Staton of Millstone, W.Va., Emmilyne C. and William Lorenz of Doylestown and Steven D. Staton of Sharon Center; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard F. "Bud" Staton; grandson, William K. Lorenz; and sisters, May Merrifield, Avis Iuppenlatz and Hortense Gruver.

A private family service will be held with Dr. David Tennant officiating.

Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St., Medina.

Esther E. Wacker
Esther Ella Wacker, 88, passed away Monday, April 2, 2001, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Esther was born March 21, 1913, in Cleveland and lived in Tucson, Ariz., for 30 years before moving to the Monterey Nursing Center in Scottsdale last year.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Kempk of Medina; daughter, Karen E. Blood of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; son, Ron T. Wacker of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private services were held.

Arrangements by Newcomer Family Mortuary.

Jerald D. Binford
Jerald D. Binford, 72, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas, and resided in Sharon Center since 1978. He previously resided in Dallas. Mr. Binford was an electrician at Cleveland Pneumatic, retiring in 1996 with 15 years of service. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (nee Miller); son, Scott Matthew of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brothers, Robert Jr., Paul and Walter; and sisters, Beverly Cafasso and Arlene Page.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael David, and sister, Judith Boll.

Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Rutledge Funeral Home, 118 Second St., Hico, Texas.

Interment: Millerville Cemetery.

Visiting hours: two hours prior to service on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Betty L. Haueisen
Betty L. Haueisen, 75, of Winter Haven, Fla., died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 17, 1925, to James May and Louise (Cassell). She was a resident of Cleveland and Medina, coming to Winter Haven in 1978. She was a former member of Rocky River Methodist Church and Westfield Country Club. She was a member of Cypresswood Country Club, Nine Hole Ladies League and Monday Afternoon Bridge Club in Cypresswood. She also volunteered at Medina General Hospital. Mrs. Haueisen was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbur R. Haueisen of Winter Haven; daughters, Mary Bowman of Parma, Carol World of Wyoming, Ohio, and JoAnne Sorabella of Watertown, Mass.; sister, Marilyn Jackson of Winter Haven; and six grandchildren.

Service: 11 a.m. Monday at Crisp-Coon Funeral Chapel, Winter Haven. Chaplain John SanCartier will officiate.

There will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2333, Winter Haven, FL 33883.

Richard Main
Richard Main, 68, of Hinckley Township, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at his residence.

He was born July 31, 1932, in Portsmouth, N.H., and was a Hinckley resident for 20 years, previously living in Cleveland. Mr. Main was employed as a heavy equipment operator for LTV Steel for 40 years, retiring in April 1995. He enjoyed fishing and Scripture reading.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eileen "Peggy" (nee Maquire); mother, Florence Fiely of Titusville, Pa.; daughters, Florence (Jim) Thomas of Titusville and Deliliah (William) Swan of Union City, Pa., and Laura (Tito) Rivera of Cleveland; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Carlson, A Golden Rule Funeral Home, 1642 Pearl Road (one-half mile south of state Route 303), Brunswick. The Rev. Charles French will officiate.

Interment: Beach Cemetery, Hinckley.

Visiting hours: Noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Norma J. Shatzer
Norma Jean Shatzer, 70, of Wadsworth, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Barberton Citizens Hospital.

She was born Oct. 29, 1930, in Byrdstown, Tenn., to Leo and Clara Hassler. Mrs. Shatzer worked and retired from Kmart, previously known as Kresge, after 30 years of service. She was a member of Reimer Road Baptist Church of Wadsworth.

She is survived by her husband, Les Shatzer, whom she married in 1963; son, Roger (Melodie) Shatzer of Dallas, and grandchildren, Kelly Shatzer of Dallas and Kerry Shatzer of St. Louis.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, 9560 Acme Road, Wadsworth. Pastor Harold Swafford will officiate.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visiting hours: One hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Reimer Road Baptist Church, 1055 Reimer Road, Wadsworth, 44281.

James A. Titchenell
James Anderson Titchenell, 90, of Medina County, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Life Care Center of Medina in Valley City.

He was born April 22, 1910, in Bruston Mills, W.Va., and was a Medina County resident for 15 years. Mr. Titchenell was employed as a pipe fitter for 20 years at J & L Steel. He retired in 1975. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his son, Frank (Joanna) Titchenell of Brunswick; daughter, Susan (Jerry) Downey of Ashland; grandchildren, Crystal, Becky, Sam, Tito and Albert Titchenell, all of Brunswick, Missy Titchenell of Medina, Steve Titchenell of Columbus, Barbara Brooks of Strongsville, Debbie Adkins of Oklahoma and Charlie Downey and Jennifer Zimmerman, both of Parma; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carlson, A Golden Rule Funeral Home, 1642 Pearl Road (one-half mile south of state Route 303), Brunswick. The Rev. Debra Spear McAtee will officiate.

Interment: Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Cleveland.

Visiting hours: 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Dale A. Bauman
Dale A. Bauman, 47, of Seville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1953, in Wadsworth and lived in Rittman and Sterling before moving to Seville 10 years ago. He graduated from Norwayne High School in 1972 and from Marietta College, with a degree in accounting, in 1976. Mr. Bauman was employed at Automated Data Processing in Parma for the past seven years and formerly was employed at Sterling Farm Equipment.

He is survived by his parents, Richard D. and Gladys A. (Gasser) Bauman of Sterling; son, Jared at home; daughters, Mrs. Kurt (Kelly) Gasser of Sterling and Julie, Stacy and Tricia Bauman, all at home; brothers, Tom (Anita) Bauman and Dan (Janice) Bauman, all of Sterling, Ron (Barb) Bauman of Dayton and Brian (Dawn) Bauman of Seville; and sister, Mrs. Stan (Karen) Beery of Rittman.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rittman Apostolic Christian Church. Ministers of the church will officiate with burial in Apostolic Church Cemetery.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Drive, Rittman, and one hour before the service at the church Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 520 S. Main St. Suite 2501, Akron, 44311-1056.

Fate Fuson
Fate "Jake" Fuson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2001.

He was born April 1, 1933, in Middlesbourgh, Ky., and was a Medina County resident for the past 33 years. Mr. Fuson was the owner of Fuson Heating and Air Conditioning Service. He enjoyed time with his family and RVing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gaynell; daughters, Kimberley Laurie of Wadsworth and Theresa Fuson of West Virginia; sons, James Underwood of Seville, Mitchell Fuson of West Salem, Christopher Fuson of Rittman and Gregory Fuson of Wadsworth; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Newcomb of Alliance and Katherin Wilson of Salem.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter; daughter, Elizabeth Ford; brothers, B.H. and Robert Fuson; and sister, Mary Ross.

Service: 12:30 p.m. Friday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Pastor James Siekbert will officiate.

Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina.

Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Stanko Jr.
John Stanko Jr., 89, of Medina, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Life Care Center of Medina in Valley City.

He was born June 3, 1911, in Cleveland and was a Medina County resident for 12 years. Mr. Stanko was retired from the General Electric Lamp Plant in East Cleveland.

He was the beloved husband of the late Anna; loving father of John (Alice) of Medina and the late Eleanor; grandfather of Letty Murphy, Marty (Alicia) and Greg Jasinski; great-grandfather of Megan; brother of the late Pauline Turis, Mary Silk and Susan Hrin; and a beloved member of his extended family at Life Care Center.

Service: 10 a.m. Friday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Pastor Richard Steele will officiate.

Burial: Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Cleveland.

Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
