Bruce Busse
Former Minster resident Bruce J. Busse, 51, 8285 Overlook Ave., Broadview Heights, died Sept. 7, 2000 in a boating accident on the AuSable River near Oscoda, Mich.
He was born April 29, 1949, in Cincinnati, to Vernon and Jane Busse, both whom survive in Minster. On Jan. 12, 1974, he married Annette Tereck, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter, Jennifer, at home; a son, Jason, at home; three sisters and their husbands, Jill and Doug Jennings, Dayton, Joan and Mike Buschur, New Weston, and Lisa and Dan Chaffee, St. Louis; a brother and his wife, Thomas and Carolyn of Cincinnati.
He was director of Control Area Services for FirstEnergy Corp., Cleveland, and served as president of St. Matthias Parish Council and on the Board of Directors for Healthcare for the Homeless in Cleveland. He was a member of Home Church Bible Study Group.
Services will be held Tuesday at St. Matthias Catholic Church. Burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.

Clayton Cornell
Clayton Cornell, 64, Sept. 9, 2000 at his residence at 207 Mariners Point Drive, Celina, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Edon, to Wayne and Jeannette (Archer) Cornell. On June 29, 1975, he married Colleen Stark, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter and her husband, Laureen and Randy Lininger, and a daughter, Cynthia Cornell Braun, all of St. Marys; two sons, Kent of Edgerton, and Nathan of Forest Lake, Minn.; a stepson, Chris Wyatt, Seminole, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kathy Wyatt, St. Paris; two brothers, Ross of Arlington, Va., and Doug of Andover, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
He was retired as a social studies teacher at McBroom Junior High School, St. Marys, serving as head coach of the boys tennis team, and also driving bus for St. Marys City Schools. He served as manager of St. Marys City Swimming Pool, past president for Tri-Squares Square Dance Club and St. Marys Jaycees. He was a second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church and its building committee, Northmoor Country Club, both of St. Marys, and Lakeshore Racquet Club, Celina. He was a 1953 and 1957 graduate of Bowling Green State University, and earned his masters degree in American History from Bowling Green in 1963.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial is at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daniel Gaberdiel
Daniel Junior Gaberdiel, 77, of Spencerville, died at 2:10 a.m. Sept. 9, 2000 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Spencerville, to Daniel B. and Velma M. (Brubaker) Gaberdiel. On April 9, 1949, he married Marilyn J. Kizer, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Terry and Erika of Elida, and Robert "Red" and Robin of Spencerville, and a son, Gary "Fuzz" of Cleveland; a daughter, Leana Lambdin, Louisville, Tenn.; a brother and his wife, Paul and Helen of Curtis, Mich.; two sisters and their husbands, Evon and Carl Becker, and Ruth Ann and Paul Reynolds, all of Spencerville; five granddaughters and three great-granddaughters.
Deceased is an infant son, Ricky Allen.
He was retired from Lima Cement Products Co., was a bus driver for the City of Lima and was co-owner of Gaberdiel & Sons Trucking Co. He served as president, chief and trustee of the Spencerville Invincible Fire Co. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II in the Seabees at Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Theatre. He served as Chaplain, service officer and had been Allen County American Legion Commander and member of the Executive Committee of American Legion District 2, and served as committeeman for Spencerville Boy Scout Troop 2. He was a member of Friends Church of Spencerville, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772, both of Spencerville. He attended Spencerville High School.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. William R. Abram officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion and VFW, both of Spencerville, is at Spencerville Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a memorial service conducted by the American Legion at 8:30 p.m.
Contributions can be made to Spencerville Invincible Fire Co., or Spencerville Ambulance Service.

William Hunter
William Jackson Hunter, 67, died at 2:18 a.m. Sept. 11, 2000 at his residence at 411 E. Main St., Coldwater.
He was born June 3, 1933, in Blackwood, Va., to George and Lena (Kleeper) Hunter. He was married in March to Norma Jean Law, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons and their wives, William J. and Becky, and Robert E. and Karen, all of Celina, George E. and Mona of Dayton, and David L. and Linda of New Bremen; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia R. and Dale Ford, and Debra L. and Mike Dale, all of Celina; a stepson, David Hamilton, Albany, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Melissa Law and Jessica Cloud, both of Albany, Ga.; a brother and his wife, John and Karen Hunter, Gas City, Ind.; a sister, Myrtle Burke, Big Stone Gap, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Eugene, and three brothers, James, Robert and Eugene.
He was a retired painter and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Graveside services are 9 a.m. Thursday at Ellis Cemetery, Montezuma, the Rev. Greg Mason officiating.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Contributions can be made to Mercer/Darke County Hospice.

Edith McDermott
Edith Esther McDermott, 85, 11700 Kingfisher Lane, St. Marys, died at 3:05 a.m. Sept. 9, 2000 at Otterbein-St. Marys Living Facility.
She was born Aug. 14, 1915, in New Vienna, to Lawrence and Bess (Good) Wright. On June 17, 1939, she married Harold C. McDermott, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Roger and Patricia of Celina, and Greg and Jacqueline of Fairlawn; a daughter and her husband, Kathy and Scott Adie, Cuyahoga Falls; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Taylor McDermott, Longwood, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Gordon, and two sisters, Eleanor Moffit and Marjorie Trickler.
She was a registered nurse for hospitals in the Cincinnati area and at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney. She volunteered her time for community organizations and was co-founder of the Anchor Club of Westerville. She received the Governor's Award for her work in establishing services for the elderly, and was inducted in 1983 into the State of Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina, and was a graduate of Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Otterbein Campus Center, St. Marys, the Rev. R. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Contributions can be made to the chapel construction fund at Otterbein-St. Marys.

Emily Miller
Emily M. Miller, 94, died at 12:50 a.m. Sept. 9, 2000 at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, where she was a resident.
She was born Aug. 1, 1906, in Celina, to Perry and Mary V. (Sherrick) Miller.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Stanford, Arlington, Va.
Deceased are two brothers and a sister.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Celina and Cincinnati school systems, and organized the medical library at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney. She was a member of the Shakespeare and Garden clubs.
Services will be held at a later date at the retirement community. Her body was donated to the Ohio State University Department of Anatomy Science.
Contributions can be made to Dorothy Love Life Care Fund.

Alice Okuly
Alice M. Okuly, 73, of Continental, died Sept. 8, 2000 at Defiance Hospital.
She was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Hamler, to Louis and Hattie (Funk) Fackler. On Feb. 21, 1947, she married Cornelius Okuly, who died April 4, 1979.
Survivors are four sons, Ronald of Cloverdale, Charles and James, both of Continental, and Dale of New Bavaria; two daughters and their husbands, Katherine and David Cross, Hicksville, and Debbie and Patrick McCague of Texas, and two daughters, Barb Soto, Defiance, and Mary of Continental; a brother, John Fackler, Hudson, Mich.; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Wayne and Kenny Fackler, and six sisters, Ruth Swalley, Helen Fackler, Florence Okuly, Evelyn Wilhelm, Betty Martinez, and Cora Martinez.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, North Creek.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-9 p.m. today at Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate, with a wake service at 8 p.m.
Contributions can be made to the donor's choice.

Marvin Petry
Former Celina resident Marvin E. Petry, 82, died Sept. 10, 2000 at his residence at 7539 Gifford Road, Fountain City, Ind.
He was born Oct. 15, 1917, in Bakers Corner, to James and Armina (Stump) Petry. He was married to Edna Viretta, who died in 1995.
Survivors are a son, Joseph "Pete" of Fountain City, Ind.; two daughters, Betty Williamson, Pensacola, Fla., and Joyce McCollum, Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Elva St. Myers, Union City, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Deceased are two sisters, Jennie Hathaway and Theresa Gregg.
He was retired from Union City Body Co., and formerly managed Crete Elevator near Lynn, Ind., and New Madison Elevator. He was a former Scout Master, and a member of Arba Friends Church, Arba, Ind., and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spencerville.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, Fountain City, Ind., the Rev. Clarence Mercer officiating. Burial is at Willow Grove Cemetery.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Elmer Schlamb Jr.
Elmer J. Schlamb Jr., 57, 601 N. Broadway St., Greenville, died at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 8, 2000 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton.
He was born March 4, 1943, in Greenville, to Elmer and Drucella (Subler) Schlamb, both whom survive in Greenville. On Oct. 26, 1963, he married Anna Brunswick, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons and their wives, Steve and LeAnn of Monroe, and Mike and Melissa, and Chris and Tammy, all of Greenville; two daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Doug Bertram, Arcanum, and Karla and Marc Dieringer, Greenville; two sisters and their husbands, Carolyn and Ron Keller, Coldwater, and Ruth and Dan Beasley, Rossburg; and 14 grandchildren.
He was senior service operator for Dayton Power & Light, and a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Greenville.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. John White officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Cemetery, Greenville.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.

Alma Smith
Alma Y. Smith, 93, died at 1:37 p.m. Sept. 10, 2000 at St. Marys Living Center, where she had been a resident since August 1999.
She was born Aug. 31, 1907, near St. Marys, to Frank and Elizabeth (Tinnerman) Yahl. On April 14, 1930, she married Robert C. Smith, who died Feb. 9, 1998.
Survivors include a sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Franklin Yahl, St. Marys.
Deceased are four sisters, Margaret Nockengost, Dr. Elizabeth Kuffner, Ruth Phillips, and Barbara Hale, and two brothers, Franklin and Robert Yahl.
She was formerly employed in the accounting departments of several automobile agencies in the Indianapolis, Ind. area, and assisted her husband in a restaurant business.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, St. Marys, the Rev. Joachim Wilck officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church.
