Clayton Burd
Clayton "Gene" Burd, 67, 812 Pro Drive, Apt. 22, Celina, was found dead Sept. 14, 2003, at his residence. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in New Bremen, to Harry and Genevieve Colson Burd. His father survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Ken) Norman and Jenny (Greg) Vantilburg, all of St. Marys; a stepdaughter, Gwen Market, St. Marys; a brother, Harry Jr. (Linda) of St. Marys; a sister, Judy Murphy, Deluth, Ga.; a half brother, Scott of St. Marys; and five grandchildren.
He retired from Avco New Idea, Coldwater.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will follow at Ellis Cemetery, Montezuma.
Calling is after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles Rothwell
Charles C. Rothwell, 61, formerly of 281 N. Frankfort St., Minster, died at 4:15 a.m. Sept. 15, 2003, at Otterbein Retirement Community, Lebanon. Death was due to natural causes.
He was born Nov. 27, 1941, in West Union, to Richard and Mildred Bayless Hardman. On Aug. 15, 1970, he married Julia R. Wimmers who survives.
Also surviving are a brother, Donald of West Union, and a sister, Gail Hardman, Lebanon.
Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.
He retired Jan. 31 as a custodian with Minster Local Schools.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, the Rev. John Schmiesing officiating. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Minster.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Marcella Tontrup
Marcella "Sally" E. Tontrup, 83, 226 E. Monroe St., New Bremen, died around 8 a.m. Sept. 14, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 4, 1920, near New Bremen, to Emil and Emma Huelsmeyer Fischbach. On Feb. 8, 1941, she married Wilbur Tontrup who died Oct. 16, 1984.
Surviving are a son, James (Thieda), and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Tontrup, all of New Bremen; a sister, Opal Kelley, Sidney; and five grandchildren.
A son, Jerry, is deceased.
She retired in 1984 from Crown Controls Corp. in New Bremen, where she had been a light assembly foreman. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Senior Citizens, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 241 and Crown Controls Corp. Plant 1 Retirees, all of New Bremen.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund or the New Bremen Emergency Squad.

Jack Briggs
Jack M. Briggs, 72, of Lima, died Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Spencerville, to Albert M. and Gertrude L. Harter Briggs. His mother survives in Lima. On June 18, 1960, he married Mary Ann Billingsley who died June 4, 2000.
Surviving are a son, John R. (Jill) of Lima; two daughters, Donna Jean (Ed) Davenport, Lima, and Carol Ann (Steve) Foute, Denver, Colo.; four brothers, Joe C. (Ann), Jay R., Michael A. (Betty) and Dennis A. (Connie), all of Lima; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Carl H., is deceased.
He retired in 1981 as a first class stationary engineer from the Lima City Schools after 30 years of service. He also taught steam engineering in the vocational department while employed there. He also worked 12 years as steam engineer at Lima Memorial Hospital.
A 1950 graduate of Beaverdam High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 and Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, both of Spencerville, and the Ohio Education Association. He was a member of the former Christie United Methodist Church near Spencerville and attended Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Bath Township.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Mark Bowyer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Maplewood Cemetery near Spencerville.
Calling is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to Pleasant View Church.

Bruce Strohl
Bruce Allen Strohl, 54, 906 Briar Lane, Celina, died at 4:33 a.m. Sept. 13, 2003, at the Arthur James Cancer Center, Columbus.
He was born Jan. 20, 1949, to Fred and Ruth Leiberick Strohl. They survive. On Oct. 14, 1972, he married Valerie Sarfi and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Brian (Shannon) of Kettering, Brad of Chicago, Ill., and Kyle of Celina; a brother, Brent of Celina; a sister, Sue Wilson, Columbus; and a grandchild.
He was a seventh and eighth grade teacher in the Celina City Schools. He also was a basketball coach, a former eighth grade football coach and the recipient of the Bob Ahrnes Award after 25 years of coaching. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Mercer County Sportsmen Society, Masonic Lodge 241, Free & Accepted Masons, the Celina Education Association, Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County.

Sr. Mary Caroline Weigel
Fort Recovery native Sister Mary Caroline Weigel, 90, died Sept. 12, 2003, at St. Bernardine Home, Fremont.
She was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Fort Recovery, to Jacob and Philomena Jutte Weigel.
Surviving is a sister, Naomi Birkmeyer, Coldwater.
Deceased are three brothers, John, Albert and Cyril, and two sisters, Emma Schroer and Henrietta Sudhoff.
The former Hilda Weigel entered the Sisters of Mercy March 24, 1931 and made her profession of vows Aug. 15, 1933. After teaching a short time at St. Vincent de Paul School, Toledo, she entered St. Rita's Hospital School of Nursing in Lima. She also attended De Sales College and earned bachelor and master of science in nursing education degrees from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Following a 1936 nursing assignment at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin, she served as director of nursing services/School of Nursing and assistant administrator at Mercy Hospital in Toledo from 1942-1963. From 1963-1965, she was director of St. Rita's Hospital School of Nursing and served as administrator of the Lima hospital from 1965-1984. She retired from St. Rita's in 1996. She was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau Kappa honorary sorority.
Funeral Mass is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Bernarding Chapel, Fremont. Burial will follow at the convent cemetery.
Calling is 2-8:30 p.m. today at St. Bernardine Home.
Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Directors, Fremont, has charge of arrangements.
Contributions can be made to the Sisters of Mercy.

Wayne Wendel
Mercer County native Wayne Wendel, 73, of Versailles, died at 11:43 p.m. Sept. 12, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Mercer County, to Edward and Anna Linn Wendel.
His wife, the former Miriam Ashman, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Tom of Sacramento, Calif., and Tim of Celina; two daughters, Tami (Steven) Shrock, Versailles, and Karen Towers, Florida; a brother, Carl of Celina; a sister, Esta Bollenbacher, Rockford; and a granddaughter.
Deceased are a brother, Lisle L., and a sister, Dorothy Borger.
He retired as a foreman at Huffy Bicycle in Celina after 40 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Versailles.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, the Rev. Monte Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Beamsville Cemetery.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Eagles will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow during the evening.

Glenn Bollenbacher
Mercer County native Glenn L. Bollenbacher, 84, 1065 Parkway Drive, Berne, Ind., died at 1:55 a.m. Sept. 11, 2003, at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind.
He was born April 13, 1919, in Mercer County, to Daniel F. and Laura Baker Bollenbacher. On Feb. 12, 1938, he married Garni Branstetter who died Sept. 16, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Wayne (Martha) of Celina; a daughter, Karen Sue (Steve) Minnich, Decatur; a brother, Vernon (Creva) of Geneva, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Archie, and a sister, Leota Bollenbacher.
He was a retired farmer and school bus driver. He also worked for P.B. Stewart Company in Geneva and Berne. He was a member of the Chattanooga United Methodist Church.
Services are 2:30 p.m. (Ohio time) Sunday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva, the Rev. Phillip W. Lutz officiating. Burial will follow at Kessler Cemetery, Chattanooga.
Calling is 3-9 p.m. Saturday and after 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

David Timmerman
Celina native David B. Timmerman, 52, 2076 W. Union City Pike, Union City, Ind., died Sept. 11, 2003, at St. Vincent's of Randolph County Hospital, Winchester, Ind. He had been in a traffic accident several days earlier and an autopsy was performed in order to pinpoint the cause of death.
He was born Dec. 15, 1950, in Celina, to William and Armella Wendel Timmerman. His mother survives in Rossburg.
Surviving are a son, Joshua, and two daughters, Rachel Peace and Amy Timmerman, all of Union City; Ind. a brother, Chuck (Emily) of Union City, Ohio; seven sisters, Kay (Tom) Walsh, Bluffton, Ind., Pat (Gene) Siefring, New Weston, Peg (Louie) Hart, Fort Recovery, Pam (Stephen) Hartzell and Debbie (Tom) Bueter, all of Rossburg, and Penny (Steve) Brunk, Union City, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Erma (Bobby) Stump, Fort Recovery, and Gerry (Earl) Hartman, Greenville; and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Donald and Paul, are deceased.
He was employed at Union City Body Company and owned and operated Dave's One Stop Bait Shop. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Union City, Ind. American Legion Post.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. (Ohio time) Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Union City, the Rev. Alan Funk officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 7-9 p.m. today at Reichard Funeral Home Inc., Union City, Ind.

Katharine Bachar
Former Celina resident Katharine Marie Bachar, of Kenton, died at 10:25 p.m. Sept. 9, 2003, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
She was born in Port Clinton, to Julius R. and Mollie Wodrich Petersen. Her husband, Paul W. Bachar, died Aug. 3, 1993.
Surviving are a sister, Margaret Marshall, Kenton; three nephews and a niece.
One brother, Paul J. Petersen, is deceased.
She had been employed as administrator of the former Otis Hospital in Celina for 15 years. She was the first Celina Miss Lake Festival queen and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Celina.
No services are planned and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
Contributions can be made to Mayo Foundations for Research in Cancer, the church or the Hardin County Cancer Society.
Schindewolf-Stevens-Stout Funeral Home, Kenton, has charge of arrangements.

Katharine Bachar
Memorial services for former Celina resident Katharine Marie Bacher, of Kenton, are 4 p.m. Thursday at Schindewolf-Stevens-Stout Funeral Home, Kenton, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating.
Calling is the hour before the service.
She died Sept. 9, 2003, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
