Thomas McNelly
Thomas Russell McNelly, 58, 208 Morton St., Celina, died at 2:48 p.m. Nov. 16, 2002 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, due to a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 3, 1944, to Harold Russell McNelly and Ella Christine (Randall) McNelly Hobart Creamens. His mother survives in West Mansfield. He married Karen M. Engle on Oct. 16, 1966, and she survives.
Also surviving are a stepfather, Duke Creamens of West Mansfield; three sons, Heath Richard (Susan) of Germany, Hewe Ramone (Lori), Coldwater, and Holt Randall, Celina; a daughter, Hope Renee (Timothy) Stanley, Willshire; a brother Jerry (Diane) Hobart, West Mansfield; two sisters, Mary Rose (John) Moran, Lakeview, and Bonnie Brown, Caldwell; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ray Hobart.
He was a mill operator at Crown Equipment Corp., Celina, and was a U. S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He also built custom fishing rods and was a member of the Rod Crafters Association, Allentown, Pa.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Jeanette Rode officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Barbara Hoenie
Barbara E. Hoenie, 58, 5134 It's It Road, Celina, died at 6:50 a.m. Nov. 17, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater, following a sudden illness.
She was born April 25, 1944, in Gary, Ind., to Ralph and Thelma (Morris) Tryon. On Aug. 1, 1997, she married Marvin Hoenie and he survives.
Other survivors are a son and his wife, Jim and Leann O'Quinn, Hudson, Ind.; a daughter and her husband, Donna and Dan Height, South Wayne, Wisc.; a step-son and his wife, Jeff and Susan Hoenie of Celina; a step-daughter and her husband, Carol and Brett Carpenter, Westerville; a step-daughter, Robin Hammond, Medina; three brothers, Jerry of Flint, Mich., Donald of Atlanta, Ga., and David of Washington, D.C.; five sisters, Gloria Gunn, Valparaiso, Ind., Karen Waskusky, Merrillville, Ind., Carol Ramirez and Colleen Pepperdine, both of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
She had formerly worked at Wal-Mart in Angola, Ind. She attended St. John Lutheran Church in Celina.
Services are 8 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Douglas R. Meyer officiating.
Calling is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 at the funeral home.

Walter Reier
Walter J. Reier, 73, 151 W. Columbus St., St. Henry, formerly of Cranberry Prairie, died Nov. 16, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Cranberry Prairie, to Charles and Anna (Rindler) Reier.
Surviving are a brother and his wife, Wilbert and Sally of St. Henry; a sister and her husband, Pauline and Al Luttmer, St. Henry, and a sister, Viola Kemper, Chickasaw.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Cranberry Prairie.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. David Hoying officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.

Werner Wyen
Werner C. Wyen, 84, 182 W. Fourth St., Minster, died at 3:35 a.m. Nov. 16, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, where he had been a patient two days.
He was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Minster, to Peter and Loretta (Bensman) Wyen. On Sept. 2, 1939, he married Irene Anthony and she died May 22, 1992.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Robert and Diana and Thomas and Joan, all of McCartyville; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Marvin Monnin, Minster; two sisters-in-law, Cleona Wyen and Betty Wyen Fowler, both of Minster; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Five brothers are deceased.
He was the retired owner and operator of Wyen & Sons Inc., Minster. A 1935 graduate of Minster High School, he was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, all of Minster.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Jane Kallenberger
Jane A. Kallenberger, 53, 10473 Charter St., died at 8:15 p.m. Nov. 14, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, following a long bout with cancer.
She was born Aug. 30, 1949 in Decatur, Ind. to John P. and Marilyn Joan (Zolman) Robinson. On April 3, 1977 she married Jerome L. Kallenberger, who survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Todd Anthony Goins of Mendon and Paul Edward Kallenberger of Rockford; a daughter, Wendy Kay Goins of Mendon; a sister and her husband, Linda K. and John Yocum of Mendon and a sister, Cheryl Legg of Celina; a half-brother and his wife John Roger and Joan Robinson of Van Wert; and nine grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert Torres and David Robinson.
She worked at KAM Manufacturing in Van Wert and previously at Huffy Bicycle Co. and TuWay Products. She was a member of St. John Lutheran church in Hopewell Township.
Services are 8 p.m. Monday at W. H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home in Celina, Rev. Debra Domeier officiation. Burial is at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chattanooga.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sarah Cervantes
Sarah Cervantes, 20, 406 N. Main St., Mendon, was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 12, 2002 at Van Wert County Hospital, following a fire that evening at her home.
She was born July 23, 1982, in Coldwater, to James A. and Anna M. (Vogan) Diedrich. Her father died in July 1983, and her mother survives in Rockford. In May 2002, she married Albert Cervantes Jr., who survives in Mendon.
Other survivors are a son, Isaiah Diedrich, at home; a brother and his wife, Rex and Barb Diedrich, and two brothers, Randy and Louis Diedrich, all of Rockford; a sister and her husband, Teresa and Richard May, Ohio City, and a sister, Melinda S. Diedrich, Celina; and grandparents, Carol Vogan of Arizona, and Gertrude and Bill Ripploh, Minster.
Deceased is her grandfather, Adam Vogan.
She worked as a nurse's aid at St. Marys Living Center.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard Riedel C.PP.S. officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Wendell Johnson
MENDON - C. Wendell Johnson, 84, died at 11:05 p.m. [Nov. 14, 2002] at St. Rita's medical Center in Lima, where he had been a patient for two weeks.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918 in Muncie, Ind. to Charles Raymond and Hazel (Dunlap) Johnson. On Dec. 24, 1946, he married Annette E. Peterson, who survives.
He also is survived two sons and their wives, Jerry and Barbara Johnson of Lima, Tom and Joyce Johnson of Celina; a son, Rick Johnson of Mendon, two daughters and their husbands, Diana Jane and Dana Griggs of St. Louis, Mo., and Patricia and Jon Shindollar of Troy; four brothers and their wives, Rex and June Johnson of Mendon, Preston and Martha Johnson of Peneto, Ind., Jay and Phillis Johnson of Geneva, Ind., Leon and Anna of Bluffton, Ind.; a brother, Ross Johnson of Geneva; a sister, Lucille Elam of Celina, four sisters and their husbands, Ina and Maurice Mote of Ludlow Falls, Gaye and Harry Turner of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jean and Dale Oxender of Ann Arbor, Mich., Patty and Bob Adams of Florida; and nine grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Wayne and Max.
He was a farmer and a sixth grade teacher in the Elida and Celina school systems for 34 years. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the Mendon First Church of God, the National Education Association, the Ohio State Education Association, the Elida Education Association, and a former member of the Farmers' Union.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, Rev. Dean Bruce officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.

Dorothy Froning
Coldwater native Dorothy A. Froning, 82, 1300 Mercer Ave., Decatur, Ind., died Nov. 13, 2002, at Woodcrest Nursing Center, Decatur.
She was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Coldwater, to Henry J. and Catherine (Kunkel) Harlett. On June 5, 1941, she married Paul E. Froning who died Sept. 21, 2002.
Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Judith A. and Fred Ehlerding, Decatur; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary of The Assumption Catholic Church, Decatur, and its rosary society.
A Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Philip DeVolder officiating. Burial is at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to any Alzheimer's foundation.

Robert Place
Robert A. Place, 83, 56 Southmoor Shores Drive, St. Marys, died at 3:44 p.m. Nov. 12, 2002, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Sept. 6, 1919, in St. Marys, to George and Mildred (Mack) Place. On March 13, 1943, he married Betty Miller who survives at the residence.
Other survivors are two sons and their wives, Scott and Jeannine of Augusta, Ga., and Robert and Paula of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, William of St. Marys; a sister, Betty Jordan, St. Marys; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Jane.
He was a 1937 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and a 1942 graduate of The Ohio State University, Columbus.
He was a veterinarian in St. Marys from 1942-1973, and then worked as a meat inspector for the federal government for 12 years. He was a member of the Ohio State Veterinary Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys, and Eagles Lodge 767 of St. Marys. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. David Woodyard officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
