Joyce A. Gabbard
FRANKLIN - Mrs. Joyce Ann Gabbard, 71, of 4650 Shaker Road, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital. A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was the daughter of Charles Edgar and Bea (Stickleman) Moore. She was a homemaker and was very active in the Franklin community. Among her many activities, Mrs. Gabbard was a member of First United Methodist Church of Franklin where she was selected as "Woman of the Year'' in 1985. She was also a member of the chancel choir, worship chairwoman and head of the ladies Rotary group. Mrs. Gabbard was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1944, a member of Franklin Athletic Boosters Club, alumni committee member, a member of the Village Singers and was a poll worker in Warren County for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Gabbard Jr., in 1991. Among her survivors are a son, Tim Gabbard, and his wife, Cindy, of Waynesville; a daughter, Monica (Gabbard) Rhude, and her husband, Jerry, of Franklin; and five brothers, Eugene and Charles Moore of Franklin, Herbert Moore of California, Robert Moore of Miamisburg and Hugh Moore of Toledo. She is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Darragh of Franklin and seven grandchildren, Stephen and Emily Lovely-Rhude of Franklin, Jenny Rhude of Columbus, Max Logan Gabbard, Emily Gabbard, and Ben and Andy Malcolm, all of Waynesville; and 26 nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Gabbard was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Lucille Moore, Marie Ruble, Marathon Irvin and Donald, Hayes and Bill Moore. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Franklin, with the Rev. Dale Lykins officiating. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery. Florence Gottshall
Mrs. Florence K. "Pat'' Gottshall, 86, formerly of Edgebrook Drive, Springboro, passed away Friday, May 1, 1998, at Willow Knoll Nursing Center in Middletown. She was born on Feb. 18, 1912, in Barker, Texas, the daughter of Ruben and Blanche (Evans) Kennedy. She was raised in Germantown, Ohio. She served in the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant, retiring in 1964 after 20 years of service. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gottshall was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, in 1978; her parents; and 13 brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton, with the Rev. James Sands officiating. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin.

Andrew Green
MIDDLETOWN - Andrew Green, 74, of Middletown, passed away Friday, April 24, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born July 13, 1923, in Uniontown, Ala., the son of Andrew and Mary Green. He was a resident of Middletown for 52 years. Andrew accepted Christ at an early age and re-dedicated his life. He was employed at Armco Steel, Inc. for 37 years and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Star Light #6 F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, brother and a sister. He is survived by five sons, Andrew Green III of Seattle, Carl Green of Middletown, Calvin Green of Akron, Joe Green and Lamar Thomas, both of Cincinnati; five sisters, Rosetta (Richard) Oliver of Springfield, Lula Mae (James) Butler of Middletown, Diane (Doug) Carter of Columbus, Mary Fields and Ruth (U.D.) Johnson both of Middletown; a brother, David Green, Jr. of Middletown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Louise Nelms; and other relatives and friends. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Fellowship Church, 1217 Michigan Ave., with the Rev. David Green officiating.

Charles Grimshaw
SPRINGBORO - Charles Grimshaw, 75, of 2664 Factory Road, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. He was born on March 28, 1923, in Lucasville, Ohio, the son of Clinton and Carrie Grimshaw. Mr. Grimshaw had worked for General Motors before retiring in 1977. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth Smith Grimshaw; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jo Ann of Midland, Ohio; two brothers; eight sisters; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his friends whom he cherished. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin. The Rev. Norman Meadows will officiate. Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ruth E. Grimshaw
SPRINGBORO - Mrs. Ruth Ellen Grimshaw, 65, of 2664 Factory Road, died at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Jefferson Township, Scioto County, Ohio, on July 28, 1932, the daughter of Ed Smith and Marie (Arthur) Smith. Mrs. Grimshaw was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on April 14, 1998; and her father. Surviving are a son, William "Bill'' Grimshaw, and his wife, Jo Ann, of Midland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shauna Woodyard (Tim), Carrie, William and Dusty Grimshaw, Shannon Gregory and April and Zack Huddleston; a great-grandchild, Christian Woodyard; her mother, Marie Tennant of Canton, Ohio; and two sisters, Wilma Garrison of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Ruby Jacovetty of Canton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Norman Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery. Walter G. Gross
Walter G. Gross, 80, of Middletown, passed away Monday, May 4, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Breathitt County, Ky., on June 12, 1917, the son of Curt and Eliza Creech Gross. Mr. Gross had worked as a truck driver for 35 years, retiring from McGraw Construction in 1980. He was a member of Teamsters Local 836 in Middletown. Surviving are his wife, Nora Messer Gross; two sons, Ronald (Judy) Gross of Germantown and Lonnie (Jeannie) Gross of Carlisle; a daughter, Mary Evelyn (Lester Ray) Jones of Middletown; a stepson, Raymond (Bonnie) Messer of Camden, S.C.; a sister, Rose Hagins of Hard Burley, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curt and Eliza Gross; a son, Walter Edward Gross, in 1978; and four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park in Wayne Township. Reba C. Garrett
Reba C. Garrett, 73, of 105 Ross St., died at the Middletown Regional Hospital Monday, July 6, 1998. She was born in Wilmington on April 3, 1925, the daughter of Andrew and Cora Ashmore Craig. She had been employed at Armco from 1943 to 1953, Montgomery Ward Co. from 1958 to 1969, Monarch Marking from 1969 to 1973, and at Elder-Beerman from 1979 to 1989. She was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church, the Middletown Area Senior Citizens, the Jolly Sixties Group, and the Chrysler Retirees of Dayton. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. Garrett, and his wife, Debra, of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Bowles, and her husband, Dennis, of Carlisle; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Margaret Milkes, of Portland, Ore.; and a dear companion, Raymond Kinzer, of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Garrett, on Nov. 19, 1994. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Johnny Schmitt officiating. Internment will be held at Woodside Cemetery.

Mary C. Gillum
Mary Catherine (Brahm) Gillum, 83, of North Bend, Ohio, died Monday, July 6, 1998. She was the devoted mother of Donald R. Gillum, and his wife, Lee, of Middletown. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Dennis George Funeral Home, 44 S. Main Ave., Cleves, Ohio. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church in North Bend. Internment will be in the Greendale (Ind.) Cemetery. Margaret A. Good
Former Middletown resident Margaret A. Good, 63, of Long Beach, Calif., died Monday, June 29, 1998. She was born Jan. 4, 1935, the daughter of Clair James Good and Gladys (Franz) Good. She lived in Middletown her entire life until moving to California 15 years ago. While in California, she worked as a manager for an apartment complex. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Cletess Webb Jr.; and a daughter, Penny Sue Portwood. She is survived by two sons, Mike Webb and James Webb, both of Huntington, W.Va.; and three daughters, Janice Walters of Huntington, W.Va., Deborah Patterson of Middletown and Mary K. Boone of Asheville, N.C. Her remains will be cremated. A private memorial will be held in Long Beach, Calif.(r)MDBO¯ In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or any Hospice chapter.

Elva Hale
Mrs. Elva Hale, 93, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 4, 1905, in Morgan County, Ky., the daughter of George and Laura (Vest) Martin. Mrs. Hale was a resident of Florida for 40 years and had lived in the Middletown area since 1993. She was a seamstress and enjoyed making crafts. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Phyllis Heinkel of Middletown and Eva Cochran, and her husband, James, of Middletown; a stepson, Henry Hale, and his wife, Sue Ann, of Middletown; nine step-grandchildren, Peggy Davis, Thomas and David Cochran, Connie Dennis, Patty Fogle, John Heinkel, Carol Evans, Paige Spence and Celeste Scheibert; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1972, her parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home in Middletown, with the Rev. Eric Newell officiating. Burial will be in North Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Willard Hampton
MIDDLETOWN - Willard Hampton, 83, of Middletown, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the Garden Manor Extended Care Center. He was born April 5, 1915, in Lee City, Ky., the son of William Wilson Hampton and Alice (Wise) Hampton. He retired in 1980 from Middletown Paper Board Co., where he worked as a millwright. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eloise (Arnett) Hampton; a son, Douglas (wife, Alta) Hampton, of Middletown; brother, Arvel Hampton, of Tallahassee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Hawkins and Joann Lee; and a brother, Robert Hampton. Funeral services will be private. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Maude Harville
Maude Harville, 89, formerly of 11 High St., Franklin, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community in Lebanon. She was born on Oct. 17, 1908, in Grainger, Tenn., the daughter of Robert and Nan Johnson. Survivors include a son, Raymond, and his wife, Toni Wolfe, of Miamisburg; three daughters, Fleeta, and her husband, Bill Stearns, of Monroe, Phyllis Hoffer of Middletown and Helen Wheeler of Miamisburg; five grandchildren, Debbie Smith of Middletown, Billy Hoffer of Franklin, Mary Faul of Lebanon, and Mark Hoffer and Lesley Gillen, both of Florida; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home, 121 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Roger Braun officiating. Burial will be in North Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ernest Hipsher
Ernest (Pete) Hipsher, 64, of Camden, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Sycamore Hospital. He was born March 24, 1934, in Thornhill, Tenn., to the late Whis and Bessie Hipsher. Pete was retired from the Shawnee Lounge in Germantown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Bow Hunters Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Willis, in 1993, and Sarah Townsend, in 1968. He is survived by his wife Roberta (Dolly); four sons, Ernest of McConnelsville, Ricky, Randy, both of Middletown, and John McGuff, also of Middletown; two daughters, JoAnn Binnix of Middletown and Nicole Hipsher of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers, J.C., Arnold G. and Earl, all of Franklin; two sisters, Beulah Hipsher and Margie Delph, both of Franklin; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Full Gospel Outreach Church, 6714 Georgetown Lane, Poastown, with Pastor James Maggard officiating. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are being handled by the Arpp & Root Funeral Home, Germantown. Memorial contributions may be made to Full Gospel Outreach Church.

John Michael Holcomb
John Michael Holcomb, 43, known as "Mike'' to his family and friends, died Thursday afternoon in the Middletown Regional Hospital emergency room, after being stricken at home. He was born in Neon, Ky. on Oct. 13, 1954, and he had lived in this area since the age of five. He was employed by Mound Steel in Springboro, and previously had worked for 22 years at Tenneco Packaging. He was also a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 501. He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy (Danner) Holcomb; three daughters, Robin Michell, Jaime Renee and Sarah Brooke; a son, John Michael, Jr.; three grandchildren, Codie, Eli and Jordan; his parents, John and Norma Holcomb, of West Middletown; his grandmother, Opal Bivens, of Middletown; a sister, Madonna Renee Hamilton, of Trenton; three nieces, Keli, Brittany and Heather; his in-laws, Joan and Richard Danner; a sister-in-law, Becky, and her daughter, Amber; 10 uncles; three aunts; and many friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shannon Carol Holcomb, of Whitaker, Ky.; his maternal grandfather, John Phillips, of Mayking, Ky.; and his paternal grandparents, Willie and Edna Holcomb, of Cherry Fork, Ohio Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Moose Lodge 501 will conduct services at 7 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Bill Howe
Bill Howe, 73, of Middletown died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown May 22, 1924, the son of L.E. and Edna (Clarke) Howe. He was the former owner and president of the Howe Motor Co. and spent 42 years working for the company before retiring in 1986. Mr. Howe also served in the Army during World War II. He was a 50-year member of the Middletown First Presbyterian Church, past president of the Middletown Rotary Club, past president of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and an active member of the Ohio Dealers Association. Over the years, his many hobbies included, working with Eagle Scouts, Corvette stock-car racing, go-cart racing, radio controlled airplanes and he was nearing completion of a Lancair 320 two-seater airplane. Mr. Howe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara W. Howe, of Middletown; three daughters, Nancy Howe Fruechtenicht and husband, Richard, of Atlanta, Ga., Barbara Howe Laspina of Middletown and Donna Howe Wesselman and husband, Jim, of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert J. Weingartner officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery. Violet M. Hummel
Mrs. Violet M. Hummel, 78, of Middletown, passed away Monday, March 16, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown on May 1, 1919, and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Hummel had been employed as a clerk at Armco Steel Co. and had also been a teacher's aide at Middletown Christian School. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there for many years. Survivors include her husband of 50 years as of this March, William "Pete'' Hummel; a son, Dan Hummel, and his wife, Kathy, of Springboro; two grandchildren, Jenny and Beth Hummel, both of Springboro; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Samuel, Harry, Edward, Charles and Carl Daniel; and two sisters, Anna Marie Farmer and Pearl Barrett. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, with the Revs. Roger Green and Howard Sears officiating. Interment will be at Grace Memorial Gardens in Middletown. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown Christian School scholarship fund, 3023 N. Union Road, P.O.
