Estil Sargent
Estil Sargent, 77, of Camden, Ohio, died Monday, Feb 21, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Aug. 22, 1922, in Menifee County, Ky., and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Sargent was employed as a paint sprayer at Aeronca and worked there for 31 years before retiring in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 1994; five sisters, Chrissie Hale, Willa Ethington, Elizabeth Yocum, Grace Masterson and Bertha Rose; a brother, George Sargent; and his parents, Andrew and Melvina Sargent. Survivors include a daughter, Patty Mikesell, and her husband, Russ, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Dustin Williams, Russ Mikesell III, Chris Mikesell, Jayme Mikesell and Jay Williams, all of Middletown; a brother, Earl Sargent, and his wife, Beulah, of Camden; a sister, Pearl Swartzel of Middletown; a niece, Marie Pope, and husband, Bob, of Middletown; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Ball officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

J. Willard Savage
CARLISLE — J. Willard Savage, 84, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Carlisle. He was born on April 26, 1915, in Matewan, W.Va., and lived in this area since 1962. Mr. Savage was a coal miner and worked for the Red Jacket and Island Creek Coal Companies for 20 years. He had also worked in the Middletown Public Library as a custodian for 13 years before retiring in 1976. He was a 50-year member of the United Mine Workers Union. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, in 1993; his parents, Greenville and Mable Savage; a daughter, Patty Loraine; three brothers, Fred, Howard and Woodrow Savage; and three sisters, Nora and Edna Hatfield and Mable Harris. He leaves a son, Willard E. Savage, and his wife, Freda, of Carlisle; a daughter, Wilma Sadler, and husband, Jim, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Ginger Vantrease, and husband, Kelvin, of Germantown, Phil Savage of Kettering, Staci Townsend of Middletown and Jeanie Minor, and husband, Mike, of Middletown; six great-grandchildren, Alexa, Austin and Devin Vantrease, Baylee Savage, and Shelby and Jordan Minor; and a sister, Marie Chafin, and husband, Gerald, of Delbarton, W.Va.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Chafin officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

M. Thelma Short
Mrs. M. Thelma (Buchanan) Short, 88, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Barbara Parke Extended Care Center. She was born in Sharpsburg, Ky., on Sept. 10, 1911, the daughter of John M. and Mary E. Buchanan. Mrs. Short worked as a clerk at the John Ross Store as well as at Capital Furniture Co. She then worked as a trainer at Raymond Bag Co. for 22 years. She was a lover of all animals. Mrs. Short was an avid fan, collector and personal friend of Jeanette McDonald. In January, the Middletown Journal honored her with an article about her following of Jeanette's career. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Short in July, 1978; her parents; and three brothers, Dallas, Virgil and Vernon Buchanan. She is survived by a nephew, Don A. Buchanan of Tampa, Fla.; and a special friend, Linda Hoffman of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel at Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton. There will be no visitation.

John R. Theiss
GERMANTOWN -- John R. Theiss, 93, of Germantown, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Elm Creek Nursing Home in West Carrollton. He lived most of his life in the Germantown area but moved west for 25 years. After retiring from the Honeywell Corp. in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1972, he returned to Germantown in 1988. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lena K. (Bailey) Theiss; five sons, Robert L. Theiss of Carson City, Nev., Melvin R. Theiss of Phoenix, Ariz., Ralph E. Theiss of Germantown, Carl W. of Middletown and John W. Theiss of Santa Maria, Calif.; a daughter, Doris M. Eldridge of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Kenneth Smith of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Kraft of San Diego and Daisey Arden of West Union, Ohio. He is also survived by a very dear sister-in-law, Betty Richey of Germantown and Delores Reed of Middletown; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emory Theiss and Arthur Smith; and two sisters, Dora Theiss and Clarabelle Knore.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Germantown Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Arpp & Root Funeral Home in Germantown is handling arrangements.

Evelyne B. Wills
Mrs. Evelyne Bundrant Wills, 86, of Kalamazoo, Mich., died Wednesday, Feb. 23. She was born on Sept. 30, 1913, in Rushville, Ind., to Luther and Ethel (Heathcock) Bundrant. She graduated high school in Rushville and attended Indiana University. She married Robert Iliff Wills on Dec. 28, 1938. She worked for doctors Darnell and Patton before beginning her career with the U.S. government. She first worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and retired from the Defense Electronics Supply Center in 1982. She was a voracious reader and loved working on crossword puzzles. She was also a wonderful cook. In her later years, she moved to Kalamazoo to be closer to her daughter. There, she attended Ecumenical Senior Center and Covenant Senior Day Program. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Leland Bundrant. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Wills Comer; two brothers, Mark Bundrant and his wife Barbara of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kenneth Bundrant and his wife Helen of Connorsville, Ind.; sister-in-law Mabel Scott of Rushville, Ind.; two granddaughters, Cristina Comer of Atlanta, and Cheryl Darden and her husband Kenneth of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two great-grandsons, Kenneth and Michael Darden; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., Middletown. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Anne Wilson
Mrs. Anne "Anna" Wilson, 89, of Manchester Road, Middletown, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Sept. 30, 1910, in Georgetown, Ky., the daughter of Leonard and Jesse Bell (Keith) Shepherd. Mrs. Wilson was employed by Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Germantown. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Thommy Wilson in 1954; and brothers, John, Leonard and Lawrence Shepherd. Surviving are her sons, Robert Wilson, and his wife, Julia, and Tommy Wilson, and wife, Clara Mae, all of Franklin; a daughter, Geneva Eisele, and her husband, Robert, of Middletown; a sister, Minnie Ware of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren Ron Thacker of Green Acres, Wash, Margaret Moore, and husband, Jim, of Franklin, Mike Tinch, and wife, Christine, of Franklin, Beverly Bair of Carlisle, Shirley Harmeyer of Miamisburg and Kimberly Lamb of Middletown; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul T. Barnes Sr.
Paul Terry Barnes Sr., 67, of Boonville, N.C., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Barnes was born on April 9, 1932, in Cynthiana, Ky., the son of Stanley and Helen (Gilluck) Barnes. He was a retired veteran having served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann (Pape) Barnes; two daughters, Pamela Snell of Tampa, Fla., and Teresa Burns, and her husband, Brian, of Franklin, Ohio; a son, Paul Terry Barnes Jr., and his wife, Karen, also of Franklin; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Charles Harner of Sabina and Carol and Fred Burton of Hillsboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Joyce Barnes of Kansas City, Mo.; and several half-brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley, and his mother, Helen Barnes Collins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, where the Rev. Chuck Wolfenbarger will officiate. Burial, with military honors offered by the Highland County Honor Guard, will be in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

James A. Becraft Jr.
FRANKLIN - James Alex Becraft Jr., 49, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at his residence. He was born on Oct. 27, 1950, in Middletown, the son of James Becraft and Rose (Cobb) Becraft. Mr. Becraft was employed as a supervisor at Worthington Steel. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Christner) Becraft; a daughter, Amanda Becraft of Middletown; a son, Clay Becraft of Middletown; three sisters, Charlotte G. (husband Bill) Mullins of Dayton, and Dana Pruitt and Vicki E. Irving, both of Middletown; his father, James A. Becraft of Middletown; a niece, Abby Irving; and a nephew, Zeke Irving. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Becraft in 1999.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. James R. Compton officiating. Cheryl K. Bieller
FRANKLIN - Mrs. Cheryl Kay Bieller, 55, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Hampton, Va., on Dec. 23, 1944, and lived here since 1966. Mrs. Bieller had worked in the activities department at Willow Knoll Nursing Center for two years. Among her survivors are her husband of 37 years, Paul K. Bieller; a son, Brian Bieller, and his wife, Lisa, of Lebanon; a daughter, Cindy Bridges, and husband, Jamie, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Griffin, Macy, Justin and Garrett; a brother, Tim Britt of Williamsburg, Va.; and her parents, Sherrill and Penny Britt.

John N. Carpenter
GERMANTOWN - John N. Carpenter, 71, of Morristown, Tenn., formerly of Germantown, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2000 at Morristown-Humblen Healthcare System. John was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierce and Rena (Young) Carpenter; his wife, Joanne Carpenter; and a grandson, Joseph George. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Lou and Blaik Darst of Germantown; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Gail Carpenter of Germantown; a stepdaughter, Pat George of Germantown; three grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dolly and Richard Kurtz of Gratis and Charlotte Sebastian of Morristown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie and Margie Carpenter of Franklin, Clyde and Patsy Carpenter of Witesburg, Tenn., Nealous and Mildred Carpenter and Pierce Carpenter Jr., and Frankie of Morristown, Tenn.; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Louise Riner.

Gary L. Childress
Gary L. Childress, 48, of Franklin Township, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the emergency room at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown on Dec. 1, 1951, the son of Eugene Childress and Colette (Pullen) Cornelle. Mr. Childress worked in accounting at Interac in Newtown, Ohio. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 528, in Middletown. He did volunteer work at Middletown Senior Citizens and had worked for 14 years at Armco as a stationary steam engineer. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Alesia Barnhizer Childress of Carlisle; his mother, Colette Cornelle of Middletown; four sons, Michael D. and John W. Childress, both of Middletown, Larry A. Childress of West Chester and Ethan D. Snapp of Carlisle; four sisters, Bonnie J. Robinson of Atlanta, Ga., Robyn L. Pierce of Middletown, Denise R. Arabie of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Karen G. Harold of Black Mountain, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Abigail McQuinn of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Childress; and a brother, Larry Eugene Childress.

Donna J. Cloyd
Mrs. Donna Joyce Cloyd, 68, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of the Hamilton and Cincinnati areas, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born on Sept. 25, 1931, the daughter of Arthur Gilkerson and Minnie (Atkins) Gilkerson. Mrs. Cloyd was a member of Calvary Cathedral Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Cecil Thomas Cloyd; a daughter, Katrina J. (husband David) Wenger of Portage, Mich.; a son, Gordon T. Cloyd of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren, David, Angela and Mark Wenger, all of Portage, Mich.; three sisters, Marilyn Sue Jones of Hamilton, and Patsy Takacs and Janis Kemen, both of Cincinnati; and a brother, Orlin Gilkerson of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by three sons, Bradley F. Cloyd in 1991, and Adam P. and Kevin T. Cloyd; her parents; and two brothers, Gordon and Gary Gilkerson.

James Cornett
James "Nick" Cornett, 43, of Middletown, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Feb. 3, 1957, in Fort Knox, Ky., and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Cornett was employed as a boiler operator at Middletown Paper Board for 18 years. He volunteered as a certified coach and assistant grounds-keeper at Smith Park for Knothole and Pee Wee Football for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Cornett; and a brother, Richard Lee Cornett. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Kim; a daughter, Misty Cornett of Middletown; a son, Nicholas "Little Nick" Cornett II of Middletown; three brothers, Jack Cornett of Trenton, Bill Cornett, and his wife, Ruby, of Fayetteville, N.C., and John Cornett and Brenda of Fayetteville; four sisters, Nancy Harris of Galveston, Texas, Mary O'Mally, and husband, Marty, of Pennsylvania, Jo Shepherd of Middletown and Margo McGuire, and husband, Don, of Middletown; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Audrey J. Hancock
Mrs. Audrey J. Hancock, 74, of 1908 Brentwood St., died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Barbara Parke Convalescent Center. She was born in Trenton on July 28, 1925, a daughter of William and Ethel (Beaty) Dietz, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Mrs. Hancock worked for the past 25 years with the Butler County MRDD and headed up the Handicap Bowling League at New Linden Lanes in Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, Clinton Hancock; three sons, Kenneth, Daniel (wife Lynn), and Larry, all of Middletown; two granddaughters, Mindy (husband Elmon) Booth and Shelly Hancock; two grandsons, Scott (wife Shonce) Hancock and Robert Hancock; a great-granddaughter, Katlynn Hancock; and a sister, Barbara Dietz of Middletown.

Robert W. Hohman
Robert W. Hohman, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer but died comfortably surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 5, 1913, to William H. Hohmann Sr. and Clara (Wlosinski) Hohmann. He attended St. Xavier High School where he was active in the marching band and Roger Back High School where he was a cheerleader. In 1935, he wed his longtime girl friend and neighbor, Emma Ostendorf. During the early years of the depression he worked at Coney Island, entertained as a pianist, and worked at Freeman Shoe Machinery to support his family. in 1937, he moved his family to Middletown, Ohio, where he became employed by Shartle Brothers Machine Co., beginning a successful and lengthy career in the paper industry. He also worked for Bolton-Emerson of Lawrence, Mass., and Bird Machinery (now Baker-Hughes) of south Walpole, Mass., as a regional sales engineer in the Midwest and Atlantic states. He was a lifelong member of the Paper Industry Management Association. He retired in 1978. Robert was devoted to his family and was a constant support to his daughter and granddaughter. He was an accomplished pianist and spent many hours listening to his favorite music of the big band era. He was also an avid reader and was known for his fantastic memory of events and people. He had a love for animals which included his family pets, Cubby and Jinx. A special retirement pastime was feeding and watching wild birds. He had a strong will that served him well during his life. He never gave up and never stopped trying, even in the face of his insurmountable illness. His wife, Emma, preceded him in death in 1983. He will be sorely missed by those surviving him including his daughter, Elaine Hohman of Middletown; his granddaughter and her husband, Stacey and W. Gregory Williams of Fairfield; his brothers, William H. Hohmann Jr. of Harrison, Ohio, and James B. Hohman of Fairborn, Ohio; a special cousin, Doris Johnson of Finneytown; and many members of his deceased wife's family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 330 Lebanon St., Monroe, with Father John Kroeger as celebrant. Visitation will be held Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.

Maurice W. Ittel
Maurice W. Ittel, 84, of 4830 Hickory Hollow, Middletown, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000. He was born in Hanover Township, Butler County, on March 13, 1915, the son of Phillip Ittel and Ida (Vizedom) Ittel. In 1943 he married Mary Louise (Billie) Miles in Dayton, Ohio. She, along with 12 other residents of Edgewood School District, lost their lives in the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire while attending a retirement dinner. Maurice was severely burned. In 1978, he married Mary (Morris) Davis. Maurice attended Hanover School. He received his B.S. degree from Miami University in 1937 and completed his M.A. degree in 1946. Maurice dedicated 42 years of his life to education. He started teaching at Reily in 1937. In 1941 he moved to the Wayne School District where he was superintendent in addition to teaching math and shop and coaching basketball. In 1960, he led the consolidation of Wayne and Seven Mile to form the Shiloh School District. In 1968, Trenton and Shiloh joined to form the Edgewood School District. He served as superintendent until August, 1980, donating his services the last 19 months. Maurice was a life member of the National Education Association. He was also active in the Buckeye Association of School Superintendents and the American Association of School Superintendents. He served as a member of the State Board of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association for four years and as president of the Butler County Retired Teachers Association. He also served on the Hamilton Fairfield Metro Board, the Franklin School Administrators Discussion Group and the Butler County School Masters Club. As a youth, Maurice was active in both Grange and 4-H work. He was on the Ohio State Fair Board as a juvenile Grange member. He was a 4-H Club member and leader. He attended 4-H camp at the Camp Cambell Gard leading to a long association with the camp. Starting in 1935, he served as a full time summer camp counselor. He became a camp institution, serving from 1943 until 1960 as associate camp director. Known as "Curlie," he moved his family to Camp Cambell Gard each summer, returning home as the school year would start. He served on the Camp Cambell Gard board of directors and on the Hamilton Fairfield YMCA metro board. Maurice was active in the Hamilton slow pitch softball league, once pitching a no-hitter, and later, moving to coaching. Bonnie J. Kinney
CARLISLE-Bonnie J. Kinney, 57, of 8738 Twin Creek Drive, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 15, 2000, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born in Batesville, Ind., on May 24, 1942, a daughter of Ray and Helen (Sintz) Knecht. She worked in the finance department of the Black-Clawson Co. for the past 14 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a board member of the Middletown Women's Center; and had volunteered with Carlisle Schools and with the Middletown Crisis Pregnancy Center. She was always a good neighbor and friend. She is survived by three children, Mike (Kim) of Carlisle, Sherri (Marvin Eastham) of Brookville, Ind., and David (Tracy) of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Brandi, Alexis and Paige; her father, Ray Knecht of Brookville, Ind.; a sister, Connie Gilmore of Kansas City, Mo.; and her special friend, Charlie Ernst of Franklin. Her mother preceded her in death.

James R. Lehmkuhl
James Robert Lehmkuhl, 87, of Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, formerly of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at the Otterbein Community. He was born on Jan. 23, 1913, In Hamilton, Ohio, the son of Fred and Ethel (Gillespie) Lehmkuhl. He worked at Armco/AK Steel Co. for 45 years and was secretary/treasurer of the AEIF Union for many years. Mr. Lehmkuhl had formerly attended the United Methodist Church in Middletown, and later, the Otterbein-Lebanon United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Albert) Lehmkuhl of Otterbein; two sons, James Lehmkuhl of Key West, Fla., and Rick Lehmkuhl, and his wife, Pat, of Rural Retreat, Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Lehmkuhl of Lakeland, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Louise Bennett of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Otterbein-Lebanon Chapel where a memorial service will follow beginning at 2 p.m.

Marc T. Lepera
Marc T. Lepera, 42, of Twinn Creek Drive, Carlisle, died Monday evening, Feb. 14, 2000, in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. He was born in Canton, Ill., on March 8, 1957, a son of Jimmie and Bettie (Aton) Lepera, and was the co-owner of Lepera Brothers Body Shop. Mr. Lepera was a member of Holy Family Parish. He leaves a daughter, Mallory Rose Lepera, and a son, Justin Alexander Lepera; his mother, Mrs. Bettie Lepera of Middletown; a sister, Lisa (Todd) Hollon; and two brothers, Greg (Connie) Lepera and Ross (Jan Prows) Lepera. His wife, Debra, preceded him in death last year. He was also preceded in death by his father in 1982.

Treva Lykins
Treva Lykins, of Middletown, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. She was born on Nov. 14, 1915, in Morgan County, Ky. She attended high school in Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Henry Haney and Corda Barker Haney. She was also preceded in death by a twin sister, Reva Clay; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Clay, and Douglas Howard, and his son, Glen Howard. Survivors include a sister, Eloise Howard of Middletown; two nephews, Ken Howard, and his wife, Kathleen, with their children, Amanda and Ryan of Springfield, Mo., and Jim Howard, and his wife, Beverly, with their children, Vanessa and Noel, in Tucson, Ariz. She worked for Inland Container Co. for 32 years and retired in late 1979. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Grassy Lick, Ky. She attended Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, Ohio, since 1964. She was affectionately called "PeeWee." She was a loving sister and aunt who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

CARLISLE - Paul E. Miller, 83, of 8929 Cam Drive, Carlisle, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at Hospice of Dayton.The son of William and Sadie (Beardsley) Miller, he was a native of Columbus. Paul was a member of the PGA and was the former golf pro at Browns Run Country Club. He was also a member of the Xenia Masonic Lodge 49, Xenia Kiwanis and Greene County Fish and Game Association. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 51 years; two daughters, Marilyn Curry of Oxford and Marsha Lensch of Centerville; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary M. Lairmore Mills, 56, of Middletown, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at her residence. She was born Sept. 30, 1943 in Hamilton. She lived in Middletown for 15 years. Mrs. Mills worked as an inspector at Continental Can Company for 28 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Lairmore, and a grandson, Richard William Main. Survivors include her husband of seven years, Allen Mills; two sons, Rickey Lairmore of Dayton and Robert Lairmore of Cincinnati and is two sons, Brandon and Cody; one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and David Tucker of Middletown and their four children, Lavina, Cher, Kyle and Kayla; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Amy and Rick Main of Hillsboro and their two daughters, Ida Mae and Mary and one brother, Roger Ogden and his wife Sharon of Memphis, Tenn.

John L. Moore
John L. Moore, 63, of Middletown, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital, where he had been a patient for seven weeks. He was born March 4, 1936 in Hamlin, W. Va. He had resided in Middletown for several years. He was retired from Jefferson Smurfit Inc., where he was employed as a scale operator. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Moore, in 1973. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sue Moore; a son, James Moore and wife Belinda of Chillicothe; two daughters, Bonnie Fields and husband Charlie and Kim Perry and husband Roger, both of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother, Mary Moore of Middletown; a sister, Marie Erwin and husband Richard of Middletown and a brother, Connie Moore and wife Jane of Middletown.

Henry Morgan
FRANKLIN - Henry Morgan, 81, of 31 S. River St., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Berea, Ky., on Sept. 16, 1918, the son of Heber and Bessie (Moore) Morgan. He graduated from Springboro High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Morgan was a member of Eastern Star Lodge 55 Free and Accepted Masons. He was employed by General Motors for more than 43 years. His wife, Betty Ann Morgan, preceded him in death in 1969. Surviving are two sons, Michael D. Morgan of Venice, Fla., and David H. Morgan of Carlisle; a brother, Louis Morgan of Springboro; a sister, Frances Back of Leesburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

CARLISLE - Paul Morris, 55, of the Fairview Home, Society for Handicapped Citizens in Carlisle, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in the Vitas Hospice Care Unit in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his cousins, Sharon and Lew Bonadies and Rebecca and Emily Hollister, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ralph and Esta Cornett of Sun City Center, Fla.; and his special family at the Fairview Home.

Charles B. Oglesby
Charles Barkelew Oglesby, 89, of Miami, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Coral Gables, Fla. He was born on July 9, 1910, to William Dickey and Robina Tilloch (Barkelew) Oglesby, who resided on South Main Street in Middletown, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Oglesby lived most of his adult life in Florida. He was a self-employed small yacht builder. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dickey and Robina Tilloch (Barkelew) Oglesby. He is survived by a brother, Robert Dickey Oglesby of Middletown; a niece, Eve Oglesby Kristin of Middletown; a nephew, William Barnitz Oglesby of Iowa City, Iowa; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Vivian E. Pawley
Vivian Elizabeth Pawley, 91, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, died there Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2000. She was born on Sept. 12, 1908, in Cicero, Ill., the daughter of Frederick and Clara Peterson Siewert. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois. She was an elementary school teacher with the Pleasantdale School District new Chicago until her retirement. She, and her late husband, Lawrence W. Pawley, moved to Green Valley, Ariz.. She has been a resident of the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village since 1995. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. and Beverly Pawley of Middletown and Robert A. and Judy Pawley of Waukesha, Wis.; four grandchildren, Alan J. Pauley of Arvada, Colo., Kathleen B. Keener of Greenwood, Ind., T. Eric Pawley of Middletown and Melissa J. Pawley of Greenwood, Ind.; a great-grandson, Matthew S. Keener; and a sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Fred Kucera of Overland Park, Kan.

Donald R. Reedy
Donald R. Reedy, 42, of Middletown, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 6, 1957, and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Reedy was employed as a factory worker at Leggett and Plack. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Reedy. Surviving are two sons, Donald Reedy Jr. "Little D" and Bobby Joe Reedy; a daughter, Alicia Reedy; his mother, Inez Bicknell; two grandchildren, Brittany Reedy and Kayla Smith; three brothers, Richard Eugene Reedy Jr., Gary Michael Reedy and Randall Lee Reedy; and three sisters, Mary Hurtt, Shari McGlothen and Hazel Janet Cornett.

Linda L. Retherford
FRANKLIN - Mrs. Linda Lou Retherford, 59, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2000. She was born to Carl Bryan and Anna Blanche Barr Henderson on Oct. 29, 1940, and was a lifelong resident of Franklin. She married Curtis Neal Retherford on Dec. 21, 1956. They had four children. Mrs. Retherford is survived by her husband of 43 years; two sons, Eric Neal Retherford and Bryan Houston (Diana) Retherford; two daughters, Kimberly Rae (Thomas) Dowrey and Amy Lee (Jack) McDermott; three grandsons, Keith Hollingsworth of Franklin and Marcus and Kyle McDermott of Hunter; and three granddaughters, Liza, Sara and Linda Retherford of Hunter. She is also survived by three brothers, Carl Henderson of Camden, Ohio, Bud (Mary Lee) Henderson of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Don Henderson of Owingsville, Ky.; four sisters, Rose Marie (Gene) Stout of Camden, Phyllis Brock, Dorothy (Raymond) Jackson and Helen (Winfred) Powell, all of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph Dale Henderson and Harold C. Henderson; and two sisters, Lois Jean Profitt and Willa Faye Henderson. Mrs. Retherford worked for Sears for 14 years at the Towne Mall and was a human resource specialist at the Dayton Mall. She was a member of the Hunter United Methodist Church.

Randy Rodgers
Randy Rodgers, 43, of Middletown, beloved servant and child of God, went home to be with his heavenly father on Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, after a six-month illness at Middletown Regional Hospital. He had worked in the coke plant of AK Steel Corp. for 10 years. He was a member of the Living Word Church of Middletown and was involved with prison ministry for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Rodgers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie A. Rodgers of Middletown; a daughter, Sommer Rodgers of Monroe; a stepson, Andy (Tonya) Meadors of Camden; mother, Chloie (Harry) Hatfield of Middletown; mother-in-law, Carol Rader of Camden and a half-brother, David Rodgers of Middletown.

Roy N. Smith
Roy N. Smith, 52, of Wilson, N.C., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at the Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Sept. 20, 1947, and lived here most of his life. Mr. Smith was a general contractor. He loved to travel and often worked outdoors. He enjoyed children and animals, especially birds. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sylvia Smith; and two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three sons, Roy A. Smith and Scott A. Smith, both of Mason, Ohio, and Christopher Smith of Middletown; three daughters, Angela Harrison, Jessica Lacey and Alexandria Smith, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters; and three dear friends in Wilson, N.C., who had become his family.

Naomi Spencer
Mrs. Naomi Spencer, 77, of Middletown, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at the Franklin Ridge Nursing Home. She was born on Sept. 8, 1922, in Wolfe County, Ky., the daughter of Worth Williams and Rosa (Stamper) Williams. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Charles Street Church of God. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Hollon of Middletown; a son, Leon Ratliff of Campton, Ky.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Liberty Spencer in 1989; and a son, Kenneth Russell Ratliff in 1998.

William E. Starr
William Earl "Billy" Starr, 47, of Louisville, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at the Hospice In-patient Unit in Louisville. He was a native of Middletown, Ohio, where he was a graduate of Lemon-Monroe High School. He was a customer service representative for the Kinetic Corp. in Louisville. Mr. Starr was a member and a photography instructor for the Louisville Visual Arts Association. He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Wanda Starr of Danville, Ky.; a brother, Rev. Floyd Starr II of Wakeeney, Kansas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Bob Dicken of Louisville.

Lindsay S. Sweatt
Lindsay S. Sweatt of Middletown passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 at his home. He was affectionately known by all of his friends as "Sweatt." Born Nov. 1, 1936, in Lynch, Ky., he was the son of Charles H. Sweatt and Marie (Bobbitt) Sweatt. Educated in the Lynch Independent School System, he attended Kentucky State University. He moved to Middletown and began working for Armco Steel Corp., from where he retired after 38 years of service. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he sang in the choir until health started to fail him. He loved his church and kept everyone in his thoughts and prayers, as he knew they were also praying for him. He loved to sing and as a young man was lead singer for groups and bands. Sweatt was well known all over the state in the Fraternal Order of Prince Hall Masons. He was a past master of Tried Stone Lodge 83, Miami Consistory 26, and a member of Royal Arch Masons. He was elevated to the highest degree of masonry, becoming a 33rd-degree Mason. He was also an honorary past potentate of Amer Temple 107 Shriners. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Janice M. Sweatt; two sons, Sherman Sweatt of Middletown and Jay Sweatt of New Orleans; four daughters, Kim Sweatt, Michelle (Dale) Hill and Ramelle Howard, all of Middletown, and Teri (Farrell) Rivardi of New Orleans and 11 grandchildren, who will sorely miss him. He was "PaPaw Sweatt" and they loved him very much. He is also survived by his mother, Marie Sweatt; two brothers, Charles (Miranda) Sweatt of Euclid and the Rev. Thomas (Linda) Sweatt of Princess Anne, Md.; one sister, Frances Woods of Dayton; his mother-in-law, Ruth Revere; special aunts, Emma Smith of Lynch, Ky., and Malvie Gist of Milwaukee; an uncle, Emmett Bobbitt of Dayton; special cousins, Isreal and Anna Hughes of Middletown; sisters-in-law, Linda Sweatt Jordan, Pamela (Phillip) Carter and Rhonda Revere, all of Middletown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gerald R. Timberman
Former Middletown resident Gerald R. Timberman, 59, of Woodland, Ala., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the Hospice of LaGrange, Ga. He was born on Nov. 16, 1940, in Middletown, Ohio, and attended Middletown schools. Mr. Timberman worked as a pipefitter for several years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Oleta Rodenberry, and his father, James Timberman. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; two stepchildren, Kyle Lawson of North Carolina and Patricia Beck of Texas; three stepdaughters, Cassie Beck of Texas and Ashley and Megan Lawson of North Carolina; three brothers, Thomas of Lineville, Ala., Richard of Middletown and Harry Timberman of Franklin.

Steven B. Ward
Steven B. Ward of Santa Cruz, Calif., formerly of Middletown, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the age of 43 years. He is survived by his wife, Julie; his sisters, Karen Stewart of Middletown, Diane Daniels of Cottonwood, Calif., and Pam Carney of Redding, Calif.; and his nieces and nephews, Eric, Kyle, Desiree, John, Amy, Elizabeth and Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Ward, and his father, Elmer Ward. Steve was an extremely talented artist. He once served in the Navy and loved the coastal community in which he had lived. He is missed.

Robert E. Woodrome, 68, of 178 N. Bedford St., Marblehead, formerly of Middletown and Piqua, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at 11:30 p.m. in the Firelands Community Hospital. He was born in Coshocton on March 19, 1931 to the late Thomas and Goldie Sprinkle Woodrome. He married Patricia E. Snider on July 15, 1952 in Piqua and she survives. Mr. Woodrome was a 1950 graduate of Piqua Central High School and retired in 1993 from Armco Steel Co., where he worked for 34 years as a machinist in the tubing department. He was a resident of Middletown for 30 years and following retirement, moved to Marblehead. He was a member and past master of the High Point Masonic Lodge 773 in Monroe, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of Dayton, a member of the Knights Templar of Middletown, past Royal Patron of the Order of the Amaranth Imperial Court 34 of Middletown, the Order of the Eastern Star Prosser Chapter 367 of Middletown and a life member of the Middletown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3809. He had served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Craig Woodrome, and two sisters, Carolyn Mowery and Helen Dean Aspinall. Other survivors include a son, Robert E. Woodrome II of Middletown; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Cindy) DuChemin of West Alexandria; five grandchildren, Anthony Woodrome, Timothy Woodrome, Stephanie Woodrome, Molly DuChemin and Kali DuChemin; three brothers, Daniel Woodrome of Salisbury, NC, James Woodrome of Middletown and Thomas "Dick" Woodrome of Dayton and a sister, Mrs. Brian (Harriett) Snyder of Lawrence, Kan.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua, with the Rev. Michael Milthaler officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Reaba Wright
Reaba Wright, 93, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 at Garden Manor Care Center. She was a native of Uniontown, Ala., and had been a resident of Middletown for 13 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Alfred Wright, and two sons, McCoy Wright and Robert Wright, both of Middletown. She is survived by 10 of her children, three sons, Lou David (Addie) Wright of Middletown, Paul Wright of Dayton and John (Pat) Wright of El Paso, Texas; seven daughters, Odessa Green and Adeline Geter, both of Uniontown, Elise (Jimmy) Watts of Birmingham, Ala., Rena (William) Clark of Cleveland, Peggy (Gaines) Scott of Chicago, Rose (Cephas) Thompson of Middletown and Alberta Aldridge of Middletown; one sister, Ethel Jones of Cleveland; 46 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., with Brother Cephas Thompson officiating. Interment is at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service.
