Jerry Lee Wolf
Jerry Lee F. Wolf, 59, of 4014 Riverview Ave., Middletown, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at his residence. He was born on Nov. 5, 1940, in Middletown, Ohio, and had lived here all of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Wolf was a mill worker at the American Packaging Corp. for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell Louis and Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Wolf; and a brother, Richard Lynn Wolf. He is survived by two sisters, Judy B. Schooley of Middletown and Carolyn M. Morin, and her husband, Joseph, of Jeffersonville, Ky.; a brother, Wendell David Wolf of Taylor, S.C.; and five nieces and four nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home, with the Associate Pastor of Bible Methodist Church, the Rev. Rodney Loper, officiating. Interment will be at the Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 218 Color Guard.

Stephan Zelling, M.D.
Stephan Zelling, M.D., 71, of Middletown, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 10, 1999, at Willow Knoll Retirement Village. He was born on July 28, 1928, in Fontainbleu, France, the son of Anton Zelling and Leonie (Lowositz) Zelling. Dr. Zelling completed his degree in medicine at Leiden University in the Netherlands. In July, 1963, he emigrated to the United States and completed an internship at Barberton Hospital in Barberton, Ohio. After his chief residency at Barberton in family practice, he and his family moved to Middletown in 1965, where he worked as an emergency room physician. He then established his family practice office on Monroe Street in 1966, later moved to Roosevelt Boulevard and continued to practice until his retirement on June 1, 1998. Dr. Zelling, and avid gardener and member of the gardening committee, devoted many hours to tending the beautiful gardens at the Church of the Ascension. He was a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and an honorary member of both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Butler County Medical Society. He is survived by his wife, Jolly Zelling; a son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Suzanne of Chapin, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jolanthe and Major David Bassett of Stuttgart, Germany; and a granddaughter, Lauren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, with the Rev. Walter J. Mycoff officiating.

Ruth Bell
Mrs. Ruth (Hamm) Giffen Bell, 76, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Middletown, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Largo, Fla. She was born on Jan. 4, 1922, and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Middletown. Mrs. Bell retired from the First National Bank of Middletown where she had worked for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Hamm; her husband, Harold Bell of Florida, who died on Nov. 2, 1999; a sister, Martha Romans of Middletown; and two brothers, John Hamm of Pensacola, Fla., and Albert Hamm of Mount Pleasant Village, Monroe. Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Carter, and grandchildren, Ryan and Elizabeth Carter, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, William Giffen of Dearborn, Mich.; and two sisters, Marilyn Routson of Middletown and Eleanor McMahon of Monroe.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services were conducted at Seminole Methodist Church in Florida. Interment was in Methodist Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Ora Lee Boggs
Ora Lee "Judy" Boggs, 81, of 730 Hillcrest Drive, Carlisle, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at 2:35 a.m. She was born in Manchester, Ky., on May 3, 1918, the daughter of G.H. and Kizzie Thompson. Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and a half-brother. Surviving are two sons, Gilbert and wife Sarah Pfistner of Franklin, and David "Butch" and wife Janis Boggs of Miamisburg; a daughter, Kizzie, and husband Dwight French of Madison Township; a sister, Opal Silbert of London, Ky., six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eaton-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irma E. Breitenbecher
Irma E. Breitenbecher, 87, of Dayton and formerly of Somerville, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Kettering. Irma was born on Sept. 25, 1912, near West Middletown in Butler County. She was the daughter of the late Garce and Emma (Divers) Billet. She was the wife of the late Everett L. Breitenbecher. She was the first woman mayor of Somerville and served in that capacity for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, and by a son, Jake Breitenbecher. She is survived by her son, Mike Davis of Hamilton; one brother, Bill Billett of West Middletown; one sister, Edith Stonger of Poasttown; and three grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services for Mrs. Breitenbecher will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Somerville Cemetery, Somerville. R.C. Nein and Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, is assisting the family with arrangements.

William F. Brewer
William Frank Brewer, 82, of 1811 Sherman Ave., Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Sycamore Medical Center. He was born in Jackson County, Ky., on Jan. 19, 1917, the son of Nathan and Lisa Belle (Hubbard) Brewer. He was employed by Gross Lumber Co. as a delivery and truck driver for 19 years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Brewer; and several half brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lelia (Perkins) Brewer; two sons, Bobby F. Brewer of Carlisle and Billy Gene Brewer of Middletown; a daughter, Faye Brewer of Middletown; three half brothers, Leonard Vaughn of Miamisburg, Lester Vaughn of Richmond, Ky., and Johnnie Vaughn of Indiana; three half sisters, Gladys Stivers and Edna Puckett, both of Miamisburg and Lina Montgomery of Middletown; two granddaughters, Lisa Michelle Faulk and Sherrie Brewer; a grandson, Bobby Brewer Jr.; a great-grandchild, Travis Brewer; and two special friends, Terri L. Fugate and Toni L. Barrett.

Wells Bridge
Wells Bridge, 76, of 126 Bryant Ave., Franklin, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford. The son of Carl and Maude Bridge, he is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Peggy, and husband Jerry Varney of Springboro; a stepson, William Kerchner of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Lynn Kerchner of Tampa; a brother, Adam Bridge of Chautauqua; a sister, Gertrude Collette of Middletown; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Wells was the Economic Development Director for the city of Franklin and formerly worked for the Playtex Company. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the Franklin and Dayton chambers of commerce. He was also a former member of the American Legion in Franklin, along with being an avid golfer.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery.

Susie Bush-Rankin
Mrs. Susie Roberta Bush-Rankin, 90, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Barbara Parke Care Center. She was born on April 9, 1909, in Tuskegee, Ala., to John Wesley and Clara Bell Mason Hicks. She was a longtime resident of Middletown and a faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Church and a member of the Mother's Board. She was preceded in death by her parents. Among her survivors are three sons, John W. Bush Sr. (Shirley) of Middletown, Wayne Rankin of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Charles Rankin of Middletown; a daughter, Phyllis Wilhight of Middletown; a sister, Clara Bell Mason of Dayton, Ohio; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., with the Rev. Leon Wilkinson officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until time of service at the chapel.

Murrie Conley
Murrie Conley, 79, of Middletown, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999 at Barbara Park Care Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Edison, Ga., the son of Willis and Leoma Brown Conley. Murrie was a member of Second Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents. His is survived by his wife, Louise; five sons, David (Jackie) Smith of Columbus, Nathaniel Hampton of Dayton, Rickie (Jackie) Wright, Murrial (Anita) Conley Jr. and Ronald (Diana) Wofford, all of Middletown; six daughters, Lois Brown of Akron, Starle Conley of Atlanta, Crystal (Perry) Potts of Eupora, Mo., Victoria Wymbs, Linda Wofford and Leoma Conley, all of Middletown; one brother, Freddie (Dorothy) Conley of Middletown; five sisters, Wonnie Mae (Gene) Passmore, Alice Brandon and Shirley (Robert) Curtis, all of Middletown, Francis Whitson of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Wille Mae Johnson of Dayton; a host of grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Charles R. Davis
Charles Ray Davis, 75, of Middletown, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in Fairfield Township, Ohio. He was born in Crab Orchard, Ky., on Feb. 26, 1924, and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Davis worked at Armco/AK Steel Co. at Open Hearth number 17 and at the Basic Oxygen Furnace for a total of 37 years. He retired in 1990. He was a member of University Baptist Church and also belonged to American Legion Post 218. He was the world's greatest dad! He leaves his wife of 21 years, Wilma J. Davis; three sons, Charles Randall Davis, and his wife, Kenna Lynn, Eric Jason Hunt and Danny Lee Hunt, and wife, Peggy; five daughters, Rita Kay Turvey, Nancy Jean Caudill, and husband, Harold Edwin, Robyn Lynn Cole, Jennifer Sue Humphries and Missy McCall; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Davis.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with Pastor C. Nolan Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sally Enright
Mrs. Sally Enright of Middletown died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her residence. She was a native of Richmond, Ky., but had lived in the Middletown area for most of her life. Mrs. Enright was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Chapel of Holy Family Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil L. Enright in 1987; two brothers; and five sisters. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Jerry and Patty Enright of Middletown and Paul and Shirley Enright of Lebanon; two daughters and their husbands, Regina and Ronan Lasso of Cincinnati and Carol and Dan Fedders of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Foley of Hamilton.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Chapel of Holy Family Parish, with Father John Civille as celebrant. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home.

John E. Frederick
John E. (Fleming) Frederick, 71, of Middletown, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Barbara Park Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Lebanon, and spent most of his life in the community. He attended the Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Lula (Lear) Frederick; three brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Butch (Liz) Frederick of Lebanon, Bob (Sharol) Frederick of Waynesville, Beverly (Paul) Wilkinson of Midland, Charles Warren (Dianne) Bishop of Texas, and Irene Rue and Iona Rue, both of Cincinnati.John was also blessed to have an extended second family that loved and cared for him for 30 years: Gladys (Noah) Fleming and Norman (Linda) Fleming, both of Middletown; Wanda Cronkright of Michigan; Tammi Nickell; Christina Frame and children, Michael, Brooke and Bradley; Lorna Lovejoy and children, Victoria and Tyler; Lana Morris and children, Jeffrey, Page and Katie; Laura Riely; Hope (Kris) Gray and children, Kristopher and Kayla; Angie Moore and children, Timothy, Donald and Heaven; Sherry (George) Costande and child, Misty; and Eric Lockhart and child, Elijah.

Esther F. Frye
Esther F. Frye, 88, of Middletown, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community. She was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Scranton, Kan., and had lived in the community for 12 years. She was a homemaker and a member and secretary/treasurer at Assembly of God Church in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Stephens; a daughter, Delores Ann Frye; a brother, Clyde Stephens; and a sister, Anna Cooper. She is survived by her son, Harold L. Frye and wife Colleen of Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Esther F. Saxbury and husband Richard of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Dennis Saxbury and wife Karen, Debra O'Hara and husband Jim, Janine Saxbury, Tangi Pergram and husband Doug, Bill Frye, Steve Frye, Tawnia Feller and husband Mike and Renata Frye; and eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie O'Hara, Alison Saxbury, Shawna O'Hara, Heather Hardewig, Leah Hardewig, Janelle Frye, Dustin Frye and Danielle Feller.

Rufus Hamm
FRANKLIN-Rufus Hamm, 72, of Franklin, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on Nov. 12, 1926, the son of the late A. Frank and Mary Hamm of South Point, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen (McKee) Hamm; his mother and father; four brothers; and a sister.Mr. Hamm worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II in the South Pacific. Surviving are four sons, Charles, and his wife, Patricia, and Donald and Glen, all of Franklin, and David, of Novi, Mich.; two granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Ella Combs Hines
Mrs. Ella Combs Hines, 88, of Middletown, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at 5:15 p.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital where she had been a patient for one day. She was born Feb. 21, 1911, in Kentucky, but lived in Middletown most of her life. She was formerly employed as a waitress for the Colony Restaurant. She was then manager of the cafeteria for Garfield School of Middletown City Schools and during the summers served as the director for the Fresh Air Camp. Prior to her retirement, she served as the Bakery Department Manager at Middletown High School. She was a member of the Breiel Boulevard First Church of God and the Order of Eastern Star. Cooking was her vocation and her hobby and everyone enjoyed the delicious meals she prepared. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ollie (Estes) Combs; her husband, Clyde R. Hines, in 1993; a son, Gary Hines, in 1961; two sisters, Shirley Phillips and Millie Combs; and two brothers, Clayton Combs and Charles E. Combs. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lindsay, and husband Kenneth of Middletown; three brothers, Ray Combs and wife Glenna, Don Combs and wife Donna, and Jerry Combs and wife Isle, all of Middletown; two sisters, Wanda Faulkner and husband Elmer of Middletown, and Nancy Ballard and husband Mitchell of Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Fern Combs of Middletown and Nona Scott of Titusville, Fla.; a stepmother, Bessie Combs of Middletown; four grandchildren, Tana Barker and husband Ron, Lisa Banks, Gary Hines and wife Debbie and James Lindsay, all of Middletown; six great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Keith Barker, Travis and Katlyn Banks and Meghan and Chelsea Lindsay, all of Middletown; two step-great-grandchildren, Tommy and Shelly Miller of Middletown; one step-great-great-grandchild, Corey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joyce E. Jackson
Mrs. Joyce E. Jackson, 76, of German Township, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her home. Joyce was born on Dec. 21, 1922, in West Elkton, Ohio, to the late Mark W. and Grace I. (Chippendale) Sheley. She was a member of the Jacksonburg United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Roy R. Jackson; her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Diane Jackson of German Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jolene and Keith Adams of Farmersville and Jean and Michael Platt of Trenton; nine grandchildren, Mark Jackson, Lori Reigelsperger, Melanie Arp, Marcia Brant, George Henry Bowser, Melisa Dotson, Monica Bowser and Justin and Lindsey Platt; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lillie Mae Jones
Mrs. Lillie Mae Jones, 71, of Middletown, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Mercy South Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 2, 1928, to Sarah and Hughie Seymore. She attended Middletown Public Schools and was a graduate of Middletown High School. Lillie Mae was employed for 45 years at Middletown Regional Hospital in the dietary department. She was a member of New Era Baptist Church and served on the former WSCS Women's Group. She was preceded in death by her parents She is survived by her husband, Sam; a God-son, George Crowell; special cousins, Geneva (Lawyer) Nicholson, Jessie Mae Webb, Choice (Rhoda) Bryant and Mattie Barnett; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Alice Elizabeth Knabel
Alice Elizabeth "Betty" Knabel, 77, of 2102 Wellington Road, died Saturday morning at the Garden Manor Care Center, where she had been a patient since January. She was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Excello, Ohio, the daughter of Issac and Laura Hinkle Scothorn. She had been employed as the office manager of the River Arms Apartments. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin E. Knabel, in 1988; and a sister, Madeline Marie Murray She is survived by a daughter, Karen Maxine Schmidt of Middletown; two sons, Roger Knabel of Middletown and David Knabel of Minden, Nev.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucille Binkley of Bradford, Ohio, Helen Louise Lamb of Germantown, Marcella Runner of Vandalia, Lenore Bruce of West Milton, Ohio, and Charlotte Thompson of Los Angeles; and two brothers, Charles Scothorn of West Carrollton and Marvin Scothorn of Chicago.

Robert S. Leach
Robert Speedy Leach, 77, of Middletown, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Williamsburg, Ky., on April 16, 1922, and lived here most of his life. Mr. Leach served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater and received a Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and The Church at Mayfield. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred I. Leach; two sons, Robert J. Leach and Kenneth R. Leach, and his wife, Carol, all of Middletown; two daughters and their husbands, Joan C. and Larry Cornett of Germantown and Kathy L. and Roger Pyle of Monroe; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sneed and Betty Leach; and three brothers and three sisters.

David F. Lenharr
David F. Lenharr, 80, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at his residence. The Middletown native was born here on Feb. 23, 1919, to George and Daisy (Yarnell) Lenharr. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Lenharr worked at the Sorg Paper Co. for 30 years, retiring in March, 1981. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Miamisburg and a past member of Disabled American Veterans Post 131 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3809. Survivors include a sister, Stella M. Walkendorf of California; two brothers, George W. Lenharr of Rochester, Ky., and Walter E. Lenharr Sr. of Middletown; four stepdaughters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Mr. Lenharr was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen, who died on April 8, 1985; his parents, George and Daisy Lenharr; and a sister, Della Quiett.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Kelly officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, with graveside services conducted by the Color Guard from American Legion Post 218. The family will receive friends today, Nov. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nikki Muncy
TRENTON-Nikki Muncy, 17, of 795 Ginger Ridge Court, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 2, 1999, following an automobile accident. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Oct. 30, 1982, the daughter of Bernard L. and Pamela (Flynn) Muncy, and was a junior at Monroe High School. Nikki was a cheerleader, participated in softball and choir and was secretary of the VICA program at D. Russel Lee Vocational School. She was a member of the World Harvest Church of God where she sang in church. She is survived by her parents, B.L. and Pam Muncy; two brothers, James and Jason, both at home; her grandmothers, Jewell Muncy and Jean Flynn; and many friends and classmates. Her grandfathers preceded her in death.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Monroe High School, 101 W. Elm St., Monroe. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the World Harvest Church of God, 602 E. State St., Trenton, with Pastor Randell Baugus officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Liberty Township.

James R. Nicholas
FRANKLIN-James "Rick" Richard Nicholas, 41, of 113 Morgan Court, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on April 28, 1958, the son of Ronald and Barbara (Post) Nicholas. He is survived by his parents; a son, James Ronald Nicholas of Franklin; brothers, Kevin Nicholas, and his wife, Susan, of New Mexico, and Todd Nicholas, and wife, Lori, of Springboro; a sister, Debra Littleton, and husband, James, of Franklin; five nieces; three nephews; a great-nephew; and aunts and uncles.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Millione officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Anna Sauter-Notz
Anna F. Sauter-Notz, 89, of Erlanger, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Ky. She was born on March 10, 1910, in Romania. Mrs. Sauter-Notz worked as a laundress in the laundry department of Good Samaritan Hospital, retiring in 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Ernestine Tracy of Erlanger, Ky.; a son, Karl J. Sauter of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Elizabeth Manderscheidt of Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst Sauter in 1946.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with Father John Civille officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.

John P. Smith
HAMILTON-John Paul Smith, 18, of Hamilton, passed away in the Miami Valley Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at 2 p.m., as the result of injuries received from an automobile accident that occurred on Nov. 2, 1999. He was born in Hamilton on June 21, 1981, the son of Carl and Sandra (Shipley) Smith. John was a senior in the welding program at D. Russel Lee Vocational School. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, with Unit 246 infantry, 4th Platoon, Fort Knox, Ky. John was also a member of the Ohio Valley Karting Association and was employed for Van G. Farms. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Philpot of Hamilton, and his father, Carl Smith, of Middletown; two sisters, Amanda Marie Smith of Hamilton and Jamie Nicole Philpot of Florence, Ky.; two brothers, Steven Dale Philpot of Fairfield and Paul Justin Philpot of Florence, Ky.; his grandparents, Dale and Claudia Kelley of Hamilton, John Shipley of Cincinnati, Judy Shipley of Tampa, Fla., Florence Smith of Middletown, and John and Ruth Smith of Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Buford Shipley of Cincinnati and Kathleen Isaac of Hamilton; five uncles, Frank (Shirley) Shipley and their children, Lauren, Jamie and Travis, John (Dianna) Shipley, Joseph Shipley, Gary (Joyce) Smith and their children, Heidi and Shannon, and Robert (Janine) Smith and their son, Robert Jr.; five aunts, Melinda (Michael) D'Alton and their children, Samantha and Kelley, Dawn Ibold and her daughter, Vicki, Joan (Jeff) Hoffman and their children, Jeffrey and Jacob, and Connie (Eddie) Smallwood and their children, Brian and Jeff, and Johnna (Steve) Lytle and their son, Steven.

Carl Tucker
Carl Tucker, 68, of Middletown, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown on Nov. 25, 1930, the son of the late William D. and Grace (Collins) Tucker. Mr. Tucker had worked for Smurfit-Stone for 39 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran serving from 1953 to 1961. Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Tucker of Middletown; three sons, Carl E. (Traci) Tucker of Bellbrook, Ohio, Daniel A. (Deborah) Tucker of Fairfield Township and David E. Tucker of N. Kingston, R.I.; two daughters, Janet L. (James) Kettman of Monroe and Cathi A. (J.C.) Bentley of Trenton; a brother, Robert (Helen) Tucker of Middletown; two sisters, Shirley (Vern) Wilson of Franklin and Ruth (Charles) Hill of Middletown; nine grandchildren, Mandy, Jennifer, Kaitlin, Chad, Holly, Jordyn, Adam, Josh and Tony Tucker; a great-grandchild, Hannah Hatfield; and two step grandchildren, Ashley and Mark Abrams.

Gerald W. White
WEST CARROLLTON-Gerald "Jerry" W. White, 61, of West Carrollton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was born on Oct. 10, 1938, to the late Theodore R. White (1979) and Mildred D. (Smith) White (1992). Jerry was an Army veteran. He worked as a train-dispatcher at the Dayton Terminal for the New York Central Railroad and currently had worked as an associate at Wal-Mart. He was a musical enthusiast and played lead guitar in several bands and for charitable benefits. He was also an avid race car fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Gibson in 1973; and a brother, Frank White, in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Edith (Barnett) White; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and James Sorrell of Middletown and Marilyn and Bill Hopkins of Cadiz, Ky.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his dog, Suzie.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. (three hours prior to service) at the Dalton Funeral Home, corner of Ohio 4 and Weaver Road, Germantown, where the funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Pastor Roger D. Green will officiate.

James N. Wise
James Nathan Wise, 62, of Largo, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at his residence. He had lived in Florida for the past 12 years, and prior to that, he lived for 15 years in Houston, Texas. He was born on Feb. 22, 1937, in Middletown, Ohio, and had lived here until moving to Kennard, Texas. Mr. Wise was employed in the Fabricating Plant at Armco Steel Co. while living in Middletown and was the owner/operator of Wise Wheelchair in Largo, Fla. for 10 years. He was a member of the Woodlawn Church of God in Largo and the Masonic Lodge of Eaton, Ohio, and Crockett, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, James Woodrow Wise; and stepfather, Earl Huffman. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Dorothy L. Wise; two daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Rick Kulms of Grapeland, Texas, and Toni and Brent Richey of Crockett, Texas; a son, James Nathan Wise II, and his wife, Tracey, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren, Rick, Nikki and Dustin Kulms of Grapeland, Texas, Mollie and Courtney Richey of Crockett, Texas, and Taylor Wise of St. Petersburg; her mother, Geraldine (Rose) Huffman of Largo, Fla.; three sisters, Ginger Dougherty, and husband, David, of Gratis, Ohio, Barbara Wise of West Chester and Pat Byrd, and husband, Don, of Deltona, Fla.; and a brother, Ronald Wells, and wife, Bonnie, of Gratis.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Christian Assembly of God Church, 6830 Trenton-Franklin Road, Middletown. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Christian Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Don Dohm officiating. Interment will be at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton.

Alma R. Yarber
Mrs. Alma Rose Yarber, 87, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at the Barbara Parke Convalescent Center. She was born on Oct. 19, 1912, in Lockland, Ohio, the daughter of Edwin Harry Ellis and Marie Eleanor (Weisbrodt) Ellis. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1930 as the valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Yarber worked for the Middletown City Schools as a lead cafeteria worker. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Yarber) Miller of Thonotosassa, Fla.; a son, Kenneth Yarber of Middletown; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Ellis of St. Petersburg, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Thomas Yarber in 1990; and a daughter, Kay Marie Yarber in 1982.
