Limond B. Comley, Sr.
Limond B. Comley, Sr., 95 of Germantown passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. Mr. Comley was born Sept. 26, 1904 in Fayette County, Ky. to the late Louis and Nora (nee Osborne) Comley. He retired from NCR in 1969 after 26 years of services and was a member of the Abundant Life Tabernacle. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Fannie Mae (nee Bingham) Comley, his daughter, Lillie Mae Goins of Germantown, four sons, Limond (Donna) Comley, Jr. of Dayton, Bill (Carolyn) Comley of Germantown, Harold (Ellen) Comley of Farmersville and Edward (Carol) Comley of Cleveland, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren, and his sister Martha Carroll of Beavercreek.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Dalton Funeral Home, corner of Ohio 4 and Weaver Road, Germantown. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Abundant Life Tabernacle Church, 8350 S. Butter St., Germantown, Ohio with Pastor James A. Setser officiating. Burial in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, Ohio.

Wanda Cramer
SPRINGBORO - Mrs. Wanda Cramer, 70, of Springboro, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown on March 14, 1929, and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Cramer was employed as a clerk at Central Store for15 years. She had also worked as a preparation cook at the Otterbein home and then retired in 1976. She was a member of the Stratford Heights Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Cramer; her parents; a brother, Gene Jones; and a sister, Glenda Mullins. She leaves five daughters, Sharon Grooms of West Union, Ohio, Rebecca Wiley of Franklin, Barbara Martin of Cincinnati, Tammy Florence of St. Louis, Mo., and Jackie Rhea of Middletown; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth Jones of Fairborn and David Jones of Springfield, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stratford Heights Church of God in Middletown, with Pastor Walter D. Watkins officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Joseph F. Dakin
Joseph F. Dakin, 85, formerly of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community. The Middletown native was born on Oct. 28, 1914, to Leonard and Katherine (Ernst) Dakin. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. Mr. Dakin worked for 21 years at Black-Clawson, retiring in 1976. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Eagles Lodge 528. Surviving are his wife, Marguerite Dakin of Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community; three sons, Gerald "Red" (Marilyn) Dakin of Somerville, Joseph L. (Carol) Dakin of Middletown and Frederick E. (Barbara) Dakin of College Corner, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Katherine Elaine Dakin in 1973; a brother, John C. Dakin in 1999; and a sister, Mary Lou Turpin in 1963.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with Deacon Tom Coyle officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Charles Day
Charles Day, the dean of Cleveland radio newscasters from the 1950's to the early 1970's, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 78. Mr. Day worked for 28 years with radio station WGAR, most as news director, and was a pioneer in electronic news coverage. He was the first newsman to install a police radio in the newsroom. Mr. Day, of Lyndhurst, covered the major news events in Cleveland from 1943 to 1971. He covered both the Sam Shepard murder trials and remained interested in the case until his death. As late as November, he noted that allegedly "new" evidence had been considered in 1954 when the story broke. In 1963, Mr. Day was the first newsman to interview Paul Brown after he was fired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns by Art Modell. Brown invited Mr. Day to his Beachwood home the next morning. In 1968, Mr. Day climbed to the rooftops of buildings to cover the Hough riots. He knew and was respected by civil and political leaders, including former mayors George Voinovich and Ralph Perk. Mr. Day interviewed many celebrities of his generation, including Bob Hope, John Glenn, Richard Nixon and Roy Rogers; and covered the national conventions of both political parties from the 1940's through 1968. Mr. Day was among a small group of journalists invited to accompany then Vice President Richard Nixon on a groundbreaking trip to the Soviet Union in 1959. In 1956, WGAR sent him overseas to cover the Hungarian Revolution because of Cleveland's large Hungarian population. Mr. Day hired, and was mentor to, several national broadcast journalist, including Jack Perkins, formerly of NBC-TV; Bill Beutel of ABC radio and Doug Poling of CBS radio. Mr. Day won four awards from the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists as Cleveland's best newscaster. Mr. Day left WGAR briefly to become news director of WEWS-TV from 1962 to 1965. He anchored the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Tom Field. However, radio remained his first love, and he returned to WGAR in 1965. He stayed there until 1971, when the radio industry began radical changes. He then became district manager/media relations for Ohio Bell (now Ameritech). He was the company spokesman and became known affectionately as "Mr. Ohio Bell," according to a co-worker. He retired in 1988. Mr. Day was born in 1921 in Middletown, Ohio, one of 10 children. A relative of frontiersman Daniel Boone, his father ran a small grocery store. When Mr. Day graduated from Middletown High School in was in 1939. When he was in high school, he ran a small pirate radio station out of his basement. He came to Cleveland to attend Fenn College's work-study program. WGAR hired him in 1943, two years before he graduated with a degree in history from Fenn College. An immensely friendly, popular man, Mr. Day served on the South Euclid Lyndhurst Board of Education for 21 years. He was a charter member of the Radio Television News Directors Association. He was a two-time president of the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland, and past president of the Cleveland chapter of the Society for Professional Journalist. He served on the public relations committees of the Cleveland Sight Center and the former Interchurch Council. He was also active at Church of the Savior (sic) in Cleveland Heights. Two of his former children followed him into the journalism field. His son, Charles R. Day Jr., now of Ponte Verda, Fla., formerly of Lakewood, was a sportswriter for the old Cleveland Press and is a former editor-in-chief of Industry Week magazine. A daughter, Mary Jane Skala of Chagrin Falls, is editor of The Sun Press and three other editions of the Sun Newspapers. Mr. Day is also survived by his wife, (and high school sweetheart) of 56 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Martha Sorohan, of Ashtabula, and a son, Robert H., of Shaker Heights; eight grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Christ of the Savior, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

William H. Francis
FRANKLIN -William H. "Buse" Francis, 91, of 3734 Pennyroyal Road, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital. He was born on Aug. 30, 1908, in Breathitt County, Ky., the son of Smith and Bertha (McGuire) Francis. Mr. Francis started a grocery business in 1946 in Franklin and was employed at Frigidaire, Moraine, retiring in 1971 after 30years. He was also formerly employed with Centerville schools. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lacy Francis; four sisters, Daisy Stacy, Dorothy Elam, Dessie Prater and Pearl Lewis; and three grandchildren, Deanna and Edward South and Scotty Turnmire. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Martha; four daughters, Rosemary and Bernice Turnmire, both of Franklin, Betty Jo McGuire, and her husband, Billy Ray, of Franklin, and Phyllis Center, and her husband, Jim, of Middletown; two sisters, Elizabeth Cornett and Ruth Prater, both of West Liberty, Ky.; an uncle Russell McGuire of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at the Woods Road Pentecostal Church, Miamisburg, with the Revs. Lonnie Mitchell and Gary Helton officiating. Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home.

Earlene Free
Mrs. Earlene Free, 74, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at her residence. She was born in Lee County, Ky., on Sept. 16, 1925, to Willie and Sarah McIntosh and lived in this area since 1949. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Free in 1991; her parents; a sister, Louise Harrett; and a brother, Wilbur McIntosh. She leaves two sons, Bobby Cooper, and his wife, Helen, of Middletown, and Richard Free Sr., and his wife, Sharon, of West Moreland, Tenn.; a grandson whom she raised, Richard Lee Free Jr., and his wife, Alison; eight other grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Silas McIntosh of Lima Creek, Ky

Roy P. Gaddis
HAMILTON-Roy "Paul" Gaddis, 55, of Hamilton, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000. He was born on March 10, 1944, in Liberty, Ky., to Roy M. and Gladys (Matherly) Gaddis and graduated from Kings Mills High School in 1962. Mr. Gaddis was employed as a production supervisor with Edgcomb Metals for 31 years, retiring in 1994. He attended the Princeton Pike Church of God. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy M. Gaddis and a sister, Janet Coomer. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Rita (Edmonds) Gaddis; a son, Troy Gaddis of South Lebanon; two daughters, Cindy (Keith) Thomas of Middletown and Kim (Brian) Coffey of Hamilton; a stepson, Gregory Woodrum of Newport, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Brenda (Mark) Smith of Fairfield; his mother, Gladys Gaddis of South Lebanon; a sister, Judy (Jerrod) Williams of Lebanon; and eight grandchildren, Eric Botts, Andrew, Anthony and Ashley Cassano, Renee McCroskey, Shelaine Woodrum, Rachel Thomas and Austin Gaddis.

Harold R. Garland
Harold R. (Brother G.) Garland, 84, of Dayton, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000. Harold was born on Aug. 29, 1915, in West Virginia, to Boyd and Carrie Garland and grew up in the Cumberland, Md., area. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred M.; four daughters, Gail Fudge of Union, Ohio, Rita Garland of Dayton, Carol Andrews, and her husband, Andy, of Dayton and Karen Goldie, and her husband, Meredith, of Carlisle, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sheryl Garland of Rapid City, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 18 1/2 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Virginia Shank of Cumberland, Md., and Marcella Mock of Anderson, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. Brother G. was a retired minister in the Southern Baptist Church. He pastored churches in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia and Ohio. Some of the local areas where he served were in Eaton, West Alexandria, Hamilton, Carlisle and Dayton. He also pastored the First Brethren Church of West Alexandria, Ohio, for many years. He drove a school bus for West Alexandria, Lakota Schools near Hamilton, Ohio, and in Jones Mills, Pa. He was also the Preble County building inspector in Eaton and a security guard at Miami University in Middletown. His ministerial degrees are from places such as the Moody Bible Institute.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the North Dayton Baptist Church, 515 Lillian Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Leota Gustin
Mrs. Leota (Chester) Gustin, of Middletown, died at the age of 93 on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the home of her daughter in San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond, in 1941, and Lola Chester, in 1974; her husband, Ernest W. Gustin in 1976; a daughter, Eva Lou Laricchiuta in 1977; a sister, Edith Miller in 1980; and a grandson, Wayne McGowan in 1978. She is survived by three sons, Frank (Fran) Gustin and Robert (Dee) Gustin, both of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Gary (Carolyn) Gustin of Middletown; two daughters, Esther (Gray) Harrison of Middletown and Anita (Edward) McGowan of San Diego, Calif; a son-in-law, Tony Laricchiuta of Trenton; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Gustin was a homemaker and also worked in real estate with her husband for 20 years.

Barbara A. G. Hinton
Barbara Ann Gates Hinton, 64, of Middletown, died Friday, Jan. 7, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Robert Lee and Emma Reese Gates. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Barbara also was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Gates. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her stepmother, Mary Lee Gates; one daughter, Monteen Gates; one son, Marlon Gates Sr.; four sisters, Cynthia, Christell, Josephine and Jackie Gates, all of Middletown; five brothers, Robert Lee Gates Sr. of Chicago, Ill., Paul Gates of Dayton, Ohio, James (and wife Pam) Gates Sr. of Middletown, David (and wife Florine) Gates of Houston, Texas, and Tom Gates of Dayton; one step-sister, Margaret Quinn of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Marlon Jr. Gates of Cleveland, Ohio, Marsha Gates of Middletown and Marvin Gates of New London, Ct.; one great-grandchild, Derrick Reed of Middletown; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marie Hobson
TRENTON-Mrs. Marie Hobson, 69, of 231 Linda Court, passed away at her residence Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2000. She was born in Pike County, Ky., on Jan. 31, 1930, a daughter of Leo and Sarah (Keithley) Sturgill. She had worked at Trenton Drugs and was an avid bowler. Mrs. Hobson attended Edgewood Baptist Church. She was a loving mother to her five sons, Mike (wife Barbara) of Middletown, Garry (wife Sharon) of Trenton, Timothy (wife Tonya) of Germantown, Hubie (wife Gena) of Pikeville, Ky., and Baxter (wife Andrea) of Trenton; and a loving nannie to her six grandchildren, Josh M., Paul, Josh L, Jacob and Erin Hobson and Nicholas Baxter Hobson. She is also survived by a sister, Beatrice Lynch of Riverview, Mich.; and two brothers, Rockford Sturgill of Chicago, Ill., and Leonard Sturgill of Betsy Layne, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Hobson, in 1998; a sister, Della Rodebaugh; and a brother, Kelsey Sturgill. She will be sadly missed.

Elizabeth Hollon
Mrs. Elizabeth Hollon, 69, of Middletown, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She and was born in Campton, Ky., on June 5, 1930, and lived here for more than 40 years. Mrs. Hollon was a homemaker and a member of Middletown Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hargis Hollon in 1990; a son, Merida Hollon in September, 1999; her parents, Merida and Mary Short; a brother, Doyle Short; and two sisters, Ila Koontz and Cora Brewer. Survivors include two sons, Homer Lee Hollon and Bradley Hollon, both of Middletown; three daughters, Carol Sallustio of Ocala, Fla., Penny Lynn Smith of Conyers, Ga., and Connie Whitt of Middletown; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Short of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., Clay Short of Middletown and Vernon Short of Franklin; and a sister, Alma Earls of Middletown.

James C. Kidd
James C. Kidd, 61, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Nov. 9, 1938. He moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1992. Mr. Kidd retired from Armco Steel Co. as a metallurgical tech-mill representative after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Shelia; two sons, Christopher of Tampa, Fla., and James O. of Louisiana; two daughters, Cheryl Halsey of Trenton, Ohio, and Catrina Foster of Bradenton; a brother, Douglas of Middletown; two sisters, Peggy Nunnamaker and Beulah Knight of Middletown; and six grandchildren.

Eva Kilmer
Eva Kilmer, 76, of Middletown, passed away Jan. 1, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Jan. 26, 1923 in Wolfe County, Ky., the daughter of John and Lou Etta (Hall) O'Hair. She was a homemaker and resided in Middletown for 54 years. Mrs. Kilmer was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton F. Kilmer; three brothers, Ova, Roy, and Charles O'Hair; three sisters, Ester Richardson, Mae Merritt, and Ella Van Tyle. She is survived by three sons, James (wife Marti) Kilmer of Franklin, Gregory Kilmer of Middletown, and Fred (wife Teresa) Kilmer of Middletown; two brothers, Russell and Thomas O'Hair of Middletown; a sister, Stella Heckinger of Covington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Michael, January, Heather, Jeremiah, Justin and one great-granddaughter, Ashley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home with funeral services following at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Alexandria Cemetery in Alexandria, Ky., with committal services at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Al Blevins will be officiating.

Lena Kindred
Mrs. Lena Kindred, 88, of Willow Knoll Retirement Community in Middletown, died there Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at 9:25 a.m. She was born in Estill County, Ky., on Sept. 8, 1911, the daughter of Houston and Mary (Barnes) Kindred. Preceding her in death were her husband, Stetson in 1983; a son, Paul Kindred; and a daughter, Sue Willison. Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Sample of Franklin; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Woodhill Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Green officiating.

Matt Langdon
Matt Langdon, 41, of 1181 Briarwood Drive, Hamilton passed away at 174 Lindy Ave. in Monroe due to a tragic fire at his brother's home on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. He was born in Hamilton on Sept. 11, 1958 the son of Miles and Mary Powell Langdon. Matt was a 1977 graduate of Taft High School and was employed as the manager of the Purple Peach Llama Farm in Okeana for the past nine years. He is survived by his parents, Miles and Mary Langdon of Hamilton, two sisters, Robin Lunsford and Kathy Langdon, both of Hamilton; four nieces and nephews, Katie Langdon, Ryan (Jennifer) Stevens, Ted Lunsford and Leah Lunsford. Matt also leaves behind many other relatives and Vicki Ginsburg whom he worked for but was best friends with. He truly enjoyed taking care of her animals. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Langdon in 1970 and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Lunsford in 1998. Matt was an easygoing person with a great smile who could always make you laugh. He was a great companion with his parents, always there when they needed him. His nieces and nephews looked to him as a second dad. Matt enjoyed watching all sports, especially college basketball. He and Terry and their dad would pick teams and root against each other. Watching the Kentucky Derby was always a family party with their mom most of the time picking the winner. Matt spent every weekend at Terry's, and they were the best of friends. Our lives will never by the same with him gone.
ARRANGEMENTS: A joint funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Milllville Ave. at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Bill Thacker of the New Miami Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Terry Langdon
Terry Langdon, 52, of 175 Lindy Ave. Monroe, Hamilton passed away at his residence due to a tragic fire at his home on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. He was born in Hamilton on June 30, 1947, the son of Miles and Mary Powell Langdon. Matt was a 1966 graduate of Taft High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology. He was employed as the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technician at Fort Hamilton Hospital for the last 10 years. On Dec. 28, 1972 in Jekyll Island, he was married to Kay Stonerock. He is survived by his parents, Miles and Mary Langdon of Hamilton, one daughter, Katie Langdon of Middletown, two sisters, Robin Lunsford and Kathy Langdon, both of Hamilton; three nieces and nephews, Ryan (Jennifer) Stevens, Ted Lunsford and Leah Lunsford. Terry also leaves behind many other relatives and his friends and co-workers at Fort Hamilton Hospital. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Langdon in 1970 and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Lunsford in 1998. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially college basketball. UC was his favorite team. Summer was his favorite time of year, and his entire family would gather at his home for grill-outs, card games and swimming with lots of laughter and music almost every weekend for the past 24 years. Terry loved to travel. He and Katie would plan trips every year together. He cherished his daughter. He was the oldest sibling but the youngest at heart. Our lives will never be the same with him gone.
ARRANGEMENTS: A joint funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Milllville Ave. at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Bill Thacker of the New Miami Church of Christ officiating. Clavis G. Lewis
WEST CARROLLTON - Clavis G. Lewis, 87, formerly of West Carrollton, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, following an extended illness. He made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Bob Coffey, of Springboro, in April, 1996. But he recently temporarily went to stay with another daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Junior Jolley, of Greenville, where he passed away Monday. He was born in Morgan County, Ky., on Aug. 24, 1912, the son of Newton and Ida (Elam) Lewis. Mr. Lewis was employed for 27 years at the General Motors, Harrison Radiator Division, retiring in 1974. He was a devout Christian and a member of the West Carrollton Nazarene Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Espie, Foster and Frank Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anna (Barnes) Lewis; three sons, C. Richard Lewis, and his wife, Geri, of Middletown, David Lewis, and wife, Judy, of West Carrollton, and Stephen Lewis, and wife, Garnetta, of Dayton; three daughters, Evelyn Coffey, and husband, Bob, of Springboro, Wanda Jolley, and husband Junior of Greenville, and Carolyn Lunsford, and husband, Terry, of Brownsville, Ind.; a sister, Alta Perry of Middletown; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Elba L. Long
Elba L. Long, 81, of Eaton, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2000, at Gov. Harris Homestead in Eaton after an extended illness. Born on Feb. 24, 1918, in Wisemantown, Ky., she was the daughter of Ernest J. and Edna (Williams) Reynolds. She retired from Leland Electric in Dayton and moved to Eaton in 1992. She had attended the United Christian Center in Dayton.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Long in 1978; a daughter, Naida June Sampson in 1986; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three brothers, Ernest C. Reynolds of Eaton, Ezra T. Reynolds of Horton, Kansas, and W. Elrige Reynolds of New Madison, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Collins of Eaton and Edith Bailey of Middletown; and one grandson, Noah Jesse Sampson of Eaton.

Middletown native Robert E. "Bob" Lyons, 73, of Montgomery, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. Mr. Lyons was born in Middletown and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was the beloved husband of Dolly (Coughlin) Lyons and the late Ruth (Vail) Lyons; devoted father of Reesa L. Phillips (Steven) and Renee Kuyath (John); dear grandfather of Elizabeth Conlon, Katherine Conlon, Hayley Phillips and Robert Kuyath; and brother-in-law of Patti and Jerry Viox.

Marti Mahoney
WAYNESVILLE-Marti (Lukens) Mahoney, 67, of Alexandria, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Washington, D.C. She was a graduate of Waynesville High School. Mrs. Mahoney had retired as a Congressional staff member in Washington, D.C., after more than 20 years service. She was also an officer with the D.A.R. She is survived by two sons, Mike of Virginia and Jeff of New Jersey; a daughter, Jan Mahoney of Maryland; four grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Buz) Lukens; and three sisters, Carolyn Ellington, Esther Gerulich and Lois Short.

May V. Mofford
MIAMISBURG-Mrs. May V. Mofford, 83, of 8826 S. Union Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Oct. 7, 1917, in South Lebanon, Ohio, the daughter of David and Phoebe (Vanderpool) Shoemaker. She was formerly employed at G.C. Murphy and Ellis Drugs. Mrs. Mofford was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Franklin and a proud member of the National Rife Association. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jess Antrican in 1973; and her second husband, Henry Mofford. She is survived by a son, Gary Antrican of Fairfax, Va.; and three grandchildren, Nicole, Gretta and Jacob.

Florence Moore
Florence Moore, 89, of 6898 Hamilton-Middletown Road, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 15, 1910 in West Liberty, Ky., the daughter of Henry and Belle Thomas. She attended the Stratford Heights Church of God and lived in Middletown most of her life. Mrs. Moore is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Byrd of Hamilton, Helen Evans of Franklin, Barbara Powers of Middletown, and Jennifer Jennings of Middletown; four sons, John Moore Jr. of New Jersey, Eugene Moore and James Moore, both of Middletown, and David Moore of Georgia; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1969 and two sons, Robert and Donald.

Marcia G. Neely
Marcia G. Neely, 61, of 3673 Amity Lane, Monroe, died Saturday evening Jan. 8, 2000, in the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital. She was born in Middletown, Nov. 15, 1938, a daughter of John H. and Arlene (Williamson) Brate and was a lifelong resident. She has been active in Cub and Boy Scouts and with Youth Soccer and Little League Baseball. She was a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church and worked in the Middletown Christian Preschool there. She is survived by her husband, James W. Neely Sr.; a daughter, Margaret A. LaTour of Middletown; three sons, James W. Neely, Jr. of Cincinnati, John L. Neely of Middletown, and Thomas M. Neely of Kalamazoo, Mich.; her mother, Arlene Brate; six grandchildren, John L. Pressler, James M. Pressler, Adam M. LaTour, Emily M. Musgrove Neely, Caleb W. Musgrove Neely, and Cameron T. Neely; a sister, Jackie Stewart; and a brother, John Henry Brate, Jr. Her father preceded her in death in 1983.

Former Middletown resident Mrs. Cassandra D. "Sandy" (Johnson) Patrick, of 3 Nixon St., Dorchester, Mass., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at her residence. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, daughter and grandmother. Sandy was a native of Middletown, Ohio, and was born on Nov. 18, 1953, to the late J.D. and Shirley Johnson. She was a graduate of Middletown High School in 1972 and attended Miami Jacobs Business College and Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. She was joined in matrimony on April 26, 1975, to Angelo "Butch" Patrick. To this union three children were born: two daughters, Mandisa "Kibbie" and Jamila; a son, Naeem; and two grandchildren were born, Danta and Dayqua, all of Dorchester, Mass. She leaves to cherish her memory a beloved husband of 24 years, Angelo Patrick III; two daughters, one son and two grandchildren; one sister, Jenifer A. June Reck, 43, of Middletown died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 in Monroe. She was born March 14, 1956, in Pittsburgh, Penn., the daughter of Patricia M. (McGivern) Malloy and Edward Malloy. Mary S. Shafer
Mrs. Mary Sue Shafer, 90, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community. She was born in Cottonwood Point, Mo., on Nov. 10, 1909, and had lived here for 70 years. Mrs. Shafer was a nurse. She was employed at Middletown Regional Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Shafer, in 1982; her parents, Stephen and Martha Pate; a sister, Reba Williams; and several other brothers and sisters. Among her survivors are a daughter, Mary Helen Johns of Middletown; three grandchildren, Michael Johns, and his wife, Linda, of Middletown, Lisa J. Saylor of Atlanta, Ga., and Jennifer Esser of Georgia; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ilene Viola Sheets
Ileene Viola Sheets, 79, of Willow Knoll Nursing Home, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in the emergency room at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Bradford, Ohio, the daughter of Jess Edward Funk and Elizabeth F. (Duke) Funk. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and was active in the Jolly 60's group. Mrs. Sheets is survived by a daughter, Donna June Landis of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Heather Nicole Goff of Middletown, Lynn Landis of Arizona and Lee Landis of the U.S. Navy; and four great-grandchildren, Kristy, Kelli, Jeanne and Zhailee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1988; and a daughter, Wanda Lou Mink in 1995.

Margie Shipman
FRANKLIN-Mrs. Margie Shipman, 69, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on July 4, 1930, in Cubage, Ky., a daughter of the late Overton and Bertha Wilder Miracle. She had been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for more than 43 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Noah Solomon Shipman; four sisters, Evelyn Hoskins, Hattie Faye Miracle, Bonnie Jean Daniels and Loraine Wynegar; and two brothers, Kenneth and Glen Miracle. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Elder Noah Solomon Shipman of Franklin; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Gary Carpenter of Franklin; sons, David Shipman of Chillicothe, Ohio, Donald Shipman of Franklin and Douglas Shipman of Carlisle, Ohio; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

TRENTON - Geraldine Siler, 56 of 317 Linda Court, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 at the Middletown Regional Hospital emergency room. She was born Aug. 9, 1943 in Middletown, the daughter of Albert Williams and Ercie (Hollon) Williams. She was a member of the Edgewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Siler is survived by her husband of 27 years, Gene Siler; son, Gene (wife Kara) Siler of Fort Drum, N.Y.; four stepdaughters, Margaret (husband Roger) Lawson of Hunter, Doris (husband Bob) Baden of Middletown, Darlene Mosley of Middletown, and Teresa Siler of Middletown; her parents, Albert and Ercie Williams of Trenton; four grandchildren, Michael Lawson, Tawana Weidle, Brianne and Courtney Siler; great-grandson, Buddy McCord; four sisters, Waylon Buchanan of Santa Maria, Ca., Neda (husband Robert) Richardson of Franklin, Jean (husband Ivan) Benton of Hamilton and Tina (husband Tom) Masterson of Middletown; a brother, Carney (wife Sandy) Williams of Middletown. Philip J. Waits
Philip J. Waits, 59 of Monroe died Friday Jan. 7, 2000 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born Oct. 8, 1940 in St. Martin, Ohio, the son of Kathleen (Dudley) Watts and Russell Watts. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and worked for Armco Steel for 34 years, retiring in 1994. He worked in the Open Hearth and the Hot Strip. He was very active in the Armco Employees Independent Federation for many years. He is survived by his wife Susan of Monroe; his mother, Kathleen Waits; son Philip R. Waits of Athens, Ohio; daughters Amy A. (Philip) Pepin of Boynton Beach, Fla., Dawn M. (Glen) Reed of Louisville, Ky., and Linda D. (Jeffrey) Elam of Middletown; brother Robert J. Robert K. Waldron
Robert K. Waldron, 88, of Boymel Pavilion Garden Manor, died Sunday morning at Middletown Regional Hospital. Formerly of Upper Arlington, Mr. Waldron retired in 1977 from the Columbus Dispatch as editor of The Dispatch Sunday Magazine. His career spanned 46 years in journalism, as a reporter, photographer, and editor. During World War II he served three years in Military Railway Service in North Africa, Italy, and France, and was a public information officer and co-editor of The Yankee Boomer and Army paper. He has won numerous awards for photography and writing and is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi. He has also worked for the Tri-Community news at Gahanna, Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum and the Lima News. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Mary Lou and John Barker of Middletown; three grandchildren, D. Seiffert, Susan Clinger, and John Kent Barker; two great-grandchildren, Cathy and Chris Clinger and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. Waldron, on Oct. 6, 1988; his parents, Louis and Clara Welser Waldron; a brother, Harry Waldron and a sister, Alice Waldron.

Alice Walker
Mrs. Alice (Selby) Walker, 89, of Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, died there Sunday, Jan 2, 2000. She was born on March 17, 1910, in Madison Township, the daughter of Edgar and Flora (Baxter) Selby. She was a teacher and guidance counselor for Middletown City Schools. Mrs. Walter was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Middletown Historical Society, Guided Study Club and AARP. She was a trustee of the Madison Township Life Squad, member of the Butler County Council on Aging and a past president of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Walker was also on the state committee of the Ohio Association of Women Deans and Counselors, a chairman of the Curriculum Council of the Middletown School System, member of the Y-Girls and Women's Committee and the Council of Churches, a 4H Club leader and a Youth Fellowship Leader. She was also on the state executive committee for Ohio Health and Physical Education and Recreation. Mrs. Walker was an Ohio State alumnus and a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She belonged to the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church and Otterbein United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Janice E. James of Longmont, Colo.; and a sister, Nina Christman of Ross, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin C. Walker in 1978; a brother; and six sisters.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stan Lawrence officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Poasttown. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church or the Otterbein Benevolent Fund.

Betty L. Williams
Betty L. Williams, 57, of Middletown died Friday, Jan. 7 at Middletown Regional Hospital. Betty was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was a native of Montezuma, Ga. and was born April 19, 1942 to the late Ulas and Mattie Lee Killen Stewart. She was employed at Middletown Regional Hospital for 23 years and Garden Manor Retirement Center as an environmental service worker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Williams, and a sister, Dorothy Moon. Betty leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Charlet Williams and Denise Richardson, both of Middletown; one son, Jack Williams Jr. of Middletown; four grandchildren, Markius Williams, Quinchary Richardson, Isiach Richardson, and Daruis Richardson, all of Middletown; three sisters, Mary Long of Dayton, Shirley (Eugene) Scott and Gloria Hines, both of Middletown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral service will be Wednesday Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St., Rev. David Green Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton. Visitation 10 a.m. until time of service at the chapel.

Esmond Williams
Esmond "Mike" Williams, 77, of 105 Sutphin St., died at his residence Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2000. He was born on Jan. 16, 1922, at Hardburley, Ky., the son of Dewey and Nancy Tucker Williams. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Williams was formerly employed at Aeronca Mfg., for 31 years, retiring in 1984. He is survived by a sister, Margie Gabbard of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Williams, in 1996.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. James R. Compton officiating. Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Charles K. Wilson
Charles Kenneth Wilson, 71, of Dayton, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2000. Mr. Wilson was born in Thornhill, Tenn., on Jan. 9, 1928, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leveda Morckel; and a son, Paul Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Freda; six daughters, Susan, Paula, Sharon, Vanda, Bonnie and Dianna; two sons, Kenny and Tim; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Vera Jean and Don Mays; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Martin Funeral Home, Northridge Chapel, 5040 Frederick Pike, Dayton. Interment will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Herman York
Herman York, 86, of Gratis Enterprise Road, West Alexandria died suddenly Friday Jan. 7, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Ashland, Ky. on July 19, 1913 to Clarence and Margaret (Lewis) York. He had retired from Armco Steel in 1976 after 28 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Gratis United Methodist Church, and a member of the Gratis Oddfellows. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Work, Gratis; a son, John (Lora) York of Gratis; and a daughter, Pat Izor of Farmersville, Ohio; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; a twin brother, Hubert York; and a sister, Helen Ruth Jobe, both of Ashland, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Charles Izor
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at the Gratis United Methodist Church in Gratis with Rev. Ted Cano officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 12 to 1 p.m.

Pirley Zennie
Mrs. Pirley (Staton) Duff Zennie, 79, formerly of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at 6:50 a.m. at her son's residence, 2910 Pond Run Lane, New Richmond, Ohio. She had lived in New Richmond for nine months. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 31, 1920, the daughter of Eli and Dulcenia (Noble) Staton. She was retired from NCR Corp. in Dayton where she had been employed for 20 years. Mrs. Zennie had also been employed at Woody's in West Carrollton and at McGee's in Middletown. She was a member of the Breiel Boulevard First Church of God in Middletown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Zennie; three brothers, Siebert, Delbert and Paul Staton; and a sister, Monica Staton. Survivors include a son, William H. Duff, and his wife, Pauline, of New Richmond, Ohio; four grandsons, Michael W. Duff, and his wife, Laurie, of Brighton, Mich., Mitchel H. Duff, and wife, Jennifer, of Milford, Ohio, Mark P. Duff, and wife, Shari, of Amelia, Ohio, and Christopher M. Duff, and wife, Lisa, of Robstown, Texas; a granddaughter, Kimberly M. Manis of Batavia, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marcella Schoultis and Audrey Sponsel, both of Middletown, and Jacqueline Donovan, and her husband, Willard, of Lauren, S.C.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends and acquaintances.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 7, from noon until 2 p.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with her grandson, the Rev. Mitchel Duff, officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
