Doris M. Atkinson
Doris M. Atkinson, former executive director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Middletown, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at her residence due to complications from cancer. She was 61. Born in St. Louis, Mrs. Atkinson had resided in the Trenton area since 1967. She graduated cum laude from Miami University in 1984 with a bachelor of arts in sociology. She was recognized by Miami for academic excellence in sociology in 1982-83 and academic excellence in sociology research in 1983-84. During her internship at The Children's Home in Hamilton, she wrote a research paper titled "An Examination of Abused and Neglected Children." The paper was published in Sociological Research Symposium XIII, a professional journal published by Virginia Commonwealth University. Mrs. Atkinson co-authored "Barriers to Higher Education Encountered by Older Female Students," also published by Virginia Commonwealth University. After working four years as a caseworker for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Middletown, Mrs. Atkinson was promoted to executive director of the agency, a position which she held for four years. She was a graduate of Leadership Middletown. After her retirement in 1992, she served on the local Board of Directors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. She was honored by Big Brothers and Big Sisters in 1998 with the W.S. Geckler Volunteer of the Year Award. Mrs. Atkinson was also active in several cancer awareness activities in the area, including the Relay for Life and was instrumental in beginning a breast cancer support group in Middletown. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Middletown. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Atkinson; two sons, Ray Atkinson of Middletown and Mark Atkinson of LaPlace, La.; her brother, Roger Bacon of Defiance; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 120 S. Broad St. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

Robert L. Bales
Robert L. Bales, 82, of 169-B Wyndcrest Court, Monroe, died Wednesday morning, May 10, at his residence. He was an Army veteran and was retired from Union Sanitary Cleaners. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Tharp) Bales; two daughters, Candee Bales of Monroe and Sherie Fournier (husband John) of Michigan; a son, Ronald Lee Bales (wife Joyce) of Michigan; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Holbrook of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held Friday at the convenience of the family in Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. Stanley Smith officiating. There will be no visitation.

Edna M. Bellaw
Edna M. (Stowe) Bellaw, 86, formerly of 3109 Grand Ave., passed away Monday, May 8, 2000 at 9:48 a.m. at the Willow Knoll Retirement Community, where she had been a resident for three years, She was born May 22, 1913 in Berea, Ky., and had lived in Middletown for 70 years. She had been employed at one time at the P. Lorrilard Co. in Middletown. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ and the Sewing Circle, Women's Guild and the Winmore Class at the church. She was also a member of the Middletown Senior Citizens and Prosser Chapter 367 Order of Easter Star. She was an avid reader and a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. She was preceded in death by her parents, D. Arthur and Jennie (Ledford) Stowe; her husband of 30 years, John J. Bellaw, in 1968; three brothers, Paul, Ivan and Raymond Stowe and four sisters, Billie Stowe, Mona Barrett, Elsa Keller and Reba Dwyer. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Croake and her husband, Steve, of Middletown; two sons, Gary J. Bellaw and wife, Linda, of Monroe and Robert A. Bellaw of Kokomo, Ind., and seven grandchildren, Brad Uhl of Middletown, Elizabeth Uhl-Goodwin and her husband, Mark, of Lousiville, Todd Bellaw and Eric Bellaw, both of Kokomo, Ryan Bellaw of San Antonio, Texas, and Jennifer Bellaw and Lindsay Bellaw, both of Monroe.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., with Eastern Star Services by Prosser Chapter 367 at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Thompson officiating. Burial will be at North Monroe Cemetery.

Earl E. Best
Earl Edward Best, 71, of Middletown, passed away Friday, May 12, 2000 at Grandview Hospital. He was born on March 13, 1929, in Camden, the son of George and Helen (Knott) Best. He was employed by Miamisburg Auto Parts for 15 years as a mechanic and glass cutter, retiring in 1977. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Best; two brothers, Charles and Hugh Parker; and four sisters, Martha Jane Parker, Mary Agnes Hoff, Margie Stidham and Louetta Countryman. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Green) Best; five sons, Theodore Best of Orient, Ohio, Doug Best, Roger Carroll and Ernie Carroll, all of Middletown, and Ear Best Jr. of Franklin; three daughters, Gloria Collins and Rebecca Paxton, both of Middletown, and Sheila Hisey of Franklin; two brothers, Butchy Parker of Franklin and Billy Coal of Carlisle; four sisters, Judy Martin and Gwendlyn Richards, both of Franklin, Shelby Slaton of Glendale, Ariz., and Patty Jennings of Trenton; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jack C. Brewer Sr.
Jack C. Brewer Sr., 78, of Germantown, passed away May 9, 2000, at Willow Knoll Nursing Home. Mr. Brewer was born Sept. 1, 1921, to the late Chalmer H. and Sara (Root) Brewer. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Germantown F&A M 257, and was retired from Armco Steel. He was a staff sergeant in World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight chief. He was a member of Middletown American Legion Post 218. Brewer was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Paul, Chalmers, William and Earl. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Kuch) Brewer; a daughter, Kathy Jo and husband Don Muenz of Columbus; a son, Jack Jr. and wife Jean Ann Brewer of West Carrollton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Mark (Wanda) Brewer of Franklin; sisters, Mary Van Dyne of Middletown, Carol Guy of Encinitas, Calif., Marjorie Combs of Laguna Hills, Calif.; a brother-in-law Charles E. Kuch and wife Shirley of Germantown; a sister-in-law Jo Ann Nixon of Farmersville; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Germantown Cemetery with the Pastor Del Harper officiating. There will be no visitation.

Marie E. Cox
Marie E. (Hall) Cox, 73, of Middletown, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at her residence. She was born in Middletown on Oct. 2, 1926, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. Marie was employed as a central service technician at Middletown Regional Hospital for 15 years before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Towne Boulevard Church of God and Middletown Regional Hospital Retirees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Laura Hall; and a sister, Kathleen Greenfield. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Victor and Linda Cox of Whitefish, Mont., and Thomas and Jennifer Cox of Middletown; two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Stuart Aldridge of Trenton and Jolene and David Vick of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Hall of Middletown; and four sisters, Ruth Cook of Columbus, and Geraldine Spencer, Louise Risner and Mariam Everhart, all of Middletown.

Gilbert A. Davidson Sr.
Gilbert A. Davidson Sr., 75, of 7824 Anne Drive, Franklin passed away Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Dayton Heart Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Scott County, Va., the son of Elbert and Alice Davidson and was the husband of the late Ruby Davidson. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post in Franklin and the South Western Deer Hunting Club, and he was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by sons Gilbert Davidson Jr. of Middletown, John (Becky) Davidson Sr. of Franklin, and daughter Mary Alice (Doug) Bush of Dayton, and very special friend Doris Powell of Germantown. He is also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, seven great-step-grandchildren, and two great-great-step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert H. Emery
Robert Hartman Emery, 79, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Linden House, Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. Robert was born in Kenton, Ohio, on Jan. 18, 1921. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iva P. and Byron Emery; his sister, Norma Weldon; and a nephew, Byron Weldon. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jane (Kash); a son, Galen R. Emery (and wife Cecilia); a daughter, Nancy B. Albert; grandchildren, Rebecca and Aaron Albert and Allison Emery; a niece, Barbara Smith, and nephew, Robert Weldon, and families from Detroit, Mich.; a sister-in-law and husband, Mary and Jack Hagan, and family, from Middletown, Ohio. During World War II, he served with Company C, 148th Infantry, in the South Pacific islands. He was wounded in the Solomon Islands and was awarded the following medals: Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman, Bronze Star and various others. He returned to the United States in December 1944, and was discharged in June 1945. Robert served with the U.S. Treasury Department in the Cincinnati District for 34 years before retiring in 1976.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in David's Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held in the auditorium at Linden House, Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville, on Thursday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Gerald Huhn will officiate.

Estelle Grube
Mrs. Estelle (Gardner) Grube, 76, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Buckingham Valley Nursing Home in Pineville, Pa. She was the wife of the late Rev. Charles A. Grube and the daughter of the late Raymond and Estelle (Walp) Gardner. Mrs. Grube was a retired bank teller. She was a member of the Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Grube O'Hara, and her sons, Brian and Sean, of Doylestown, Pa; and two sons, Erik W. Grube of Bensalem, Pa., and Richard G. Grube, and his wife, Sharon, and his son, Kevin R. Grube, of Newtown, Pa. Mrs. Grube was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister, Charles Gardner, Linda Gardner Grant, Raymond Grant, William Gardner and Richard Gardner.

Melissa Payne Gum
Mrs. Melissa Payne Gum, 72, of Oak Hill, W. Va., died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W. Va., after a long illness. She was born on March 3, 1928 in Kingston, W. Va., a daughter of the late William Okey and Josie Humphrey Payne. Mrs. Gum was a graduate of Pax High School, Concord College and received a Masters Degree from Miami University. Her teaching career began in Raleigh County, W. Va., where she taught for seven years. She moved to Ohio and taught for five years in Warren County, in the Blue Ball School and was a second grade teacher for 20 years at Mayfield Elementary School. She was honored with a teacher of the year award in 1974. She loved and was loved by her students. Mrs. Gum retired from teaching in 1979. She was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, where she helped write and prepare the latest history of the church addition. Mrs. Gum was an active participant in the Fayette County Historical Society and spent much of her time at Contentment Museum. She was a member of the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the White Oak Chapter of N.R.H.S. She enjoyed participating in several Elderhostel programs in a number of states. When Elderhostel programs came to Fayette County, she participated as a volunteer local assistant, providing information, books and pictures. Melissa was a giver, a giver in her loving ways with children and a giver of kindness, time and energy. Survivors include her husband, Charles Wallace Gum, who she married on May 28, 1954; five brothers and sisters-in-law, William U. Payne and wife, Flora, of Miami, John A. Payne and wife, Euline, of Sacramento, Calif., Waymon H. Payne and wife, Jean, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Franklin L. Payne and wife, Mildred, of Fayetteville, W. Va., and Lowell E. Payne and wife, Janet, of Sissonville, W. Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo Morris and husband, Glenn, of Rockbridge, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Oak Hill, W. Va., with the Rev. James Shepard officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Mamie D. Hodge
Mrs. Mamie D. (Morrison) Hodge, 95, of Middletown, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Menifee County, Ky., on June 2, 1904. She lived in Middletown most of her life except for 28 years when she resided in Lehigh Acres, Fla. She attended South School, Middletown High School and Miami Jacobs Business College. Mrs. Hodge had first worked as a cashier and bookkeeper. Later, she was employed as an auditor at Frigidaire for 21 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres, Fla., and a lifelong member of the International Society of Poets. Mrs. Hodge was a published writer of poetry and had received numerous awards as a Poet of Merit. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Joanna M. Lehman
Former Middletown resident Mrs. Joanna M. Lehman, 65, of Grovetown, Ga., died there on Saturday, May 13, 2000. She was born in Kings Mills, Ohio, on June 4, 1934, and had lived in Grovetown since moving from Middletown in 1958. Mrs. Lehman was employed at the Middletown Journal for 10 years and had also worked at NCR in Dayton. She had also worked at Traders World Flea Market until 1994; and the family wishes to give their special thanks to Jay Frick Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Souders; her grandmother, Laura Mae White; and a sister-in-law, Irene M. Souders. Survivors include her husband, Earl M. Lehman; two sons and their wives, Daniel B. and Lee Lehman of Martinez, Ga., and David J. and Susan Lehman of Middletown; a daughter, Jodi Spencer-Reffitt, and her husband, Jim, of Monroe, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jason J. Lehman, James Spencer, Jessica J. Lehman, and Brandon D. Lehman and Dana M. Lehman; two step-grandchildren, Bradley G. and Joshua J. Reffitt; two sisters, Shirley Wagner, and her husband, Doc, of Nashville, Tenn., and Pamela L. Souders of Middletown; and two brothers, Charles W. Souders of Franklin and James G. Souders, and wife, Pat, of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services are set for noon Friday, May 19, at Butler County Memorial Park in Trenton. The family will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at the home of her brother, Charles W. Souders, 5173 Ohio 122, in Franklin.

Harold J. McCloud
Harold J. McCloud, 78, of Middletown, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Feb. 3, 1922 in Winchester, Ky., a son of Lonie and Viola McCloud. He lived in this area most of his life, retiring as a shipping foreman from Jefferson Smurfitt Co. in 1984. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia McCloud, in May 1999 and a brother, Gordon McCloud. He is survived by a brother, Richard McCloud and his wife, Ila, of Middletown; a nephew, Dean McCloud of Lawrenceburg, Ind. and a dear friend, Minnie Turner of Carlisle.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rose Miller
Rose Miller, 86, of 1109 Lafayette St., died Saturday morning at her residence. She was born in Lexington, Ky., Dec. 16, 1913, and was a homemaker. She had attended the Poasttown Church of God. She is survived by three daughters, Loreta Lucas (husband Elbert) of Middletown, Sandra Miller of Middletown and Helen Holbrook and her husband, Carles, of Germantown; two sons, Russell Miller (wife Marty) of Franklin, and Dale Miller (wife Sandra) of Camden; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Miller in 1991; a son, Ted Miller in 1989, and by a daughter, Eileen Thornsburg in 1996.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with Apostle Irene J. Watson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery.

Guilda B. Mills
Guilda B. Mills, 99, of 1176 W. Ohio 73, Springboro, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Southview Hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1901, in Springboro, the daughter of Meredith and Beulah "Routt" Brunk. She was employed for over 30 years as a teller for the Farmer's Bank in Franklin which is now Huntington Bank. Mrs. Mills was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springboro, a Red Cross volunteer, and the Springboro Historical Society. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband Robert Ralph Mills in February 2000. She is survived by her nieces, Sharon Brunk and Karen Weist; nephews, Roger, Duane, Raymond, and Donal Brunk; sister-in-law, Louise Brunk; great nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Vivian Beatty.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Shimer officiating. Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.

William L. Reck
William L. Reck, 68, of Dayton, passed away Monday, May 8, 2000 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Middletown, where he resided for 18 years. Mr. Reck was a graduate of Ohio State University, a retired employee of Delco Moraine with 34 years of service and past president of the Miamisburg Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron T. and Vera (Morgan) Reck. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Ryan) Reck and two sons, W. David Reck of Canton, Mich. and Steven M. Reck of Auckland, New Zealand.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Burial will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Charlene Marsada Richmond
On Sunday, May 14, 2000, Charlene Marsada Richmond (Reinschmidt) died at her home on Trenton-Franklin Road, Middletown, Ohio, after a battle with cancer. Charlene is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, William F.J. (Frank). She is also survived by her daughter, Susan Hall of Middletown; three sons, David Richmond and Alan Richmond, both of Middletown, and Benjamin Richmond (wife Kable) of Columbus, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Adam and Kevin Hall, Alex and William Richmond, Ryan, Holly and Joseph Richmond and Grayson Richmond. Also surviving is her twin sister, Charlotte Theile (husband Charles) of Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Damon Coburn. Charlene was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Aug. 8, 1934, to Roy and Charlotte Reinschmidt (Majoewsky). Growing up in Cincinnati, Charlene graduated from Withrow High School and was a member of the United Church of Christ in Oakley. After moving to Middletown in 1967, she was an active member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church, and more recently, First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Dorcas Chapter Order of Eastern Star and was a past president of Middletown Soroptimists. Mrs. Richmond and her husband have been owners of Middletown Janitor Supply for 29 years and the Banner Mat Co. in Cincinnati for 21 years. Charlene had been active in managing both businesses during that time. She was a founding member and the first secretary of the Sanitary Supply Wholesalers Association.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the First United Methodist Church, 120 S. Broad St., with Pastor John Keeny officiating. In lieu of visitation, Charlene had an open house at her home last weekend, May 6-7, for all her friends and family. Attended by more than 170 people, this was her way of celebrating her life and sharing her love. She was a joy and inspiration to all who knew her and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Arrangements are by Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Sandra J. Robinson
Sandra Jean "Tolu" Robinson was born Aug. 18, 1946, in Middletown. She departed this life on Monday, May 8, 2000, at Franciscan Medical Center in Dayton. She was preceded in death by her mother, the late Lucille Robinson and her father, the late Rev. Willie Robinson. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Jerry (Natalie) Robinson of Middletown and Charles A. Brionna Sturgis
Brionna Sturgis, daughter of Brian and Renee (Young) Sturgis, of 441 Sunnybrook Court, Franklin, died at birth Friday, May 12, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Carolyn Sturgis of Franklin, John Sturgis of Clarksville, Deborah Swindall of Lebanon and Russell Young Sr. of Centerville, and her great-grandparents, Dorothy Young of Centerville, Donald and Bonnie Broslow of Henderson, Nev., Lora Rose of Franklin and Barb Sturgis of Carlisle.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Woodside Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Lykins officiating. Friends may call at from 1 p.m. until time of service Monday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Charles F. Sweatt
Charles F. Sweatt of Euclid, formerly of Middletown, passed from this life to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2000 at his home. A native of Lynch, Ky., Mr. Sweatt was educated in the Lynch Independent School System. Upon gradudation, he entered the Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va., and afterwards served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Sweatt moved to Middletown where he worked for Armco Steel and drove for Myers Taxi. He later moved to Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Sweatt; two sons, Michael and Charles Sweatt of Elyria; two brothers, Roy and Lindsay Sweatt of Middletown and a dear aunt, Lucy Owens of Middletown. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of more than 50 years, Miranda, of Euclid; his mother, Marie B. Sweatt of Lynch; one son, Randall of Elyria, Ohio; two daughters, Lucinda (Ernest) Andrews of Canton and Anna Katherine Peters of Euclid; one sister, Frances Woods of Dayton; one brother, the Rev. Thomas E. Sweatt of Princess Anne, Md.; his grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; three sisters-in-law, Janice Sweatt and Linda Sweatt Jordan of Middletown and Linda Sweatt of Princess Anne, Md. and special cousins, Israel and Anna Hughes of Middletown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services are today at the Watson Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Albert C. Theobald
Albert C. Theobald, 84, of Trenton, died Friday, May 12, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Middletown to Rolland and Rose (Bauer) Theobald. Mr. Theobald was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He had been a farmer in the Trenton and Monroe areas. He worked for the H.P. Deuscher Foundry in Hamilton and the Butler Landmark. Mr. and Mrs. Theobald would have been married 60 years on June 8. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude L. Theobald of Trenton; a son, Thomas (Beverly) Theobald of Trenton; two daughters, Judith (William) Johns and Jeanne (Gerald) Johns, all of Trenton; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolland and Rose Theobald.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Father George Klein will officiate. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. Visitation times are also private.

Samuel H. Via
Samuel H. Via, 92 of Gratis, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Heartland of Eaton. He was born July 4, 1907, in Gladstone, Va. He was an Army veteran. He had worked for McGraw Construction in Middletown for many years. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Fairfield. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gladys Via; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and June Via of Eaton, Charles and Pat Via of Franklin, and David and Joyce Via of Gratis and a daughter Wanda Via of Gratis; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Patsy Via of Brookville. He was preceded in death by a son, Samuel H. Via Jr. in 1986, and a great-grandson, Brian N. Via in 1985.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Gratis with the Rev. Stanley Booher officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Gratis. Friends may call the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Lee Witt
Lee Witt, 84, of 7826 Sheri Lane, Franklin, passed away May 12, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born April 26, 1916, the son of Chris and Emily Witt. He is survived by his wife, Mabel R. Witt, and daughter Emma Snyder of Indianapolis, Ind., grandsons Shane (Kim) Snyder of Dayton and Kyle (Shawnna) Snyder of Middletown. He is also survived by many loving family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
