Carolyn Barnette
Mrs. Carolyn (Larson) Barnette, 57, of Middletown, passed away at 10:16 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her residence. She was born on March 17, 1943, in Middletown, Ohio, and had lived here all of her life. She was employed as a receptionist for TCI Cable for 13 years. Mrs. Barnette was a member of the Solid Rock Church and the Shiloh Healing School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Marjorie (Wise) Larson; and two infant children, Kevin and Amy. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Denzil; a daughter, Robin Feicht of Middletown; a son, Kyle Adams, and his fiancee, Sheila, of Middletown; two stepsons, Denzil Barnette Jr., and fiancee, Angie, of Trenton, and David Barnette, and wife, Denise, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Cristina Barnette of Dayton; five grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah and Leah Feicht and David Jr. and Sadie Barnette; a brother, Melvin Larson Jr., and his wife, Mary Kay, of West Middletown; a sister, Sharon Kay Richardson, and husband, Rodney, of Middletown; her stepfather, Duane Terry of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no visitation. Family and friends will meet at the graveside for graveside services Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at the Woodside Cemetery. The Rev. Charlene Allen will officiate. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery

Clifford Brown
CAMDEN -- Clifford Brown, 83, of Camden, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Heartland of Eaton. He was born in Wolfe County, Ky., to Taylor and Lola (Agee) Brown. He retired from AK Steel Corp. in 1976 after 33 years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leona Brown; three sons, Raymond (Wandee) Brown of Camden, Emerson Brown of Pensacola, Fla. and Stephen (Linda) Brown of Lynchburg, Va.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ethel Tolson of Campton, Ky., Golden Peters of Huber Heights, and Edna Miller of Florence, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Butler Brown, and sister, Carma Manley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Gratis, with Mr. Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Glenn W. Brown
Glenn W. "Brownie" Brown, 87, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, April 29, 2000. He was born on Feb. 5, 1913, in Salina, Kan., a son of Charles and Anna G. Brown. He worked for McGraw Construction Co. and was a member of Iron Workers Local Union 290 of Dayton, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 528 and Lincoln Masonic Lodge 693. Mr. Brown was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Charles Brown; his first wife, Lillian Brown; and his second wife, Maxine Brown in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Glenna Ruth (John) McCubin of Louisville, Ky., and Vicki Johnson of Franklin; two sons, Norman (Dana) Longworth of Louisville, Ky., and James W. (Cathy) Brown of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Brown of California; two sisters, Georgia (Paul) Montgomery of Middletown and Catherine (Lynn) Hubsh of Willingborough, N.J., and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church on Jackson Lane, with Pastor Art Wilson officiating. There will be no visitation.

John Burns Jr.
John Burns Jr., 73, of 166 Beckett St., Hamilton, died Saturday, May 6, in Cincinnati.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at True Victory Church of God in Christ in Middletown. Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home.

Eugene Collins
Eugene Collins, 55, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 11:13 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital after a long battle with emphysema. He was born on July 9, 1944, in Buckhorn, Ky. He moved to Hamilton, Ohio, in 1954 and graduated from New Miami High School in 1965. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served n the Vietnam War for four years from 1965 to 1969. He reported directly to the admiral regarding all intellectual communication matters. In 1969, Mr. Collins was employed by the B&O Railroad (which later merged with CSX), retiring as yard master in 1991. In 1979, he received a business degree. From 1976 to 1993, he served in the Ohio National Guard, where he was the head sergeant of communications. He received numerous service medals and awards and two honorable discharges, one from the U.S. Navy and one from the Ohio Army National Guard. Mr. Collins was a member of the First Church of God in Monroe and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Miami Post 7676. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Alice Louise (Wooton) Collins. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Tulsa D. Collins; a daughter, Sontha Sue, and her husband, Rene Ramos, of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Monroe Collins Jr., and his wife, Rhonda, of Carlisle, and Glen Collins, and wife, Arie, of Hamilton; a sister, Geraldine Glore, and husband, Tom, of Liberty, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Saturday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to noon at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Ball officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, with military services by the American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard.

Lois L. Crouch
Mrs. Lois Lee Crouch, 63, of Middletown, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born in Middletown on May 24, 1936, to Bill and Esther Argo, and was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mrs. Crouch was a homemaker. She attended A New Beginning Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Wilma Leturgez. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Charles W. Crouch; a son, Steve Crouch, and his wife, Patty, of Monroe; a daughter, Tammy Summers, and her husband, Mike, of Middletown; three grandsons, Steven Crouch, and wife, Kelley, Jason Crouch and Brent Summers; and two sisters, Phyllis Specht of Florida and Patty Schmidt of Alabama.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter D. Watkins officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Earl E. Derickson
Earl E. Derickson, 100, of Bath, Ind., passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 3, 2000. He was born on Oct. 4, 1899, the son of Lincoln and Henrietta (Barr) Derickson. A long-time farmer, he was also employed by the Butler County Farm Bureau Co-op, the Beckett Paper Co., the Bendix Corporation and retired from the Hamilton Tool Co. He married Gertrude Leugers on Oct. 16, 1920. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1988. He is survived by two sons, Robert Derickson of Hamilton and Donald Derickson and his wife, Vivian of Trenton; two daughters, Clara Schlichter and her husband, Herbert and Marie Garnett and her husband, Carl, both of Oxford; one sister, Marguerite Dockum of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; six nephews and three nieces. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Wilbur Derickson; three sisters, Myrtle Harlan, Blanche Beissinger and Stella Derickson; one granddaughter, Linda Sue Derickson and a daughter-in-law, Pearl Derickson.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South D Street. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Faith United Church of Christ, 1877 Millville Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Allen C. Minor and the Rev. George W. Hurter officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Jean Doss
Effie Jean Doss, 69, of 104 Stanley St., Middletown died Friday, May 6, 2000, at her residence. She was born June 22, 1930 in Dayton, Tenn., to Adolphus Fisher and Opal (Barger) Fisher. She was an avid gardener and a very loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Thomas R. Doss; a son, Tom and wife Linda Doss of Plainwell, Mich.; three daughters, Donna Doss of Middletown, Connie Bordewick of Quincy, Ill., and Sherrie and husband Doug Pratt of Middletown; 10 grandchildren, Brittney Thrower of Middletown, Tommy, Bobby and David Doss of Plainwell, Angie Bordewick of Columbia, Mo., Gina and Johnny Bordewick both of Quincy, Josh Williams, Doug Pratt and Andrew Pratt, all of Middletown; a brother, Chester L. Fisher of Rossville, Ga., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Jackson and Rev. Hugh Howard officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

James L. Johnson
James Leslie Johnson, 81, of Ocala, Fla. and formerly Middletown, died Thursday, May 4, 2000 at Ocala Regional Medical Center. He was born in Frenchburg, KY., and was a steel worker at Armco Steel Company in Middletown. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Johnson of Ocala; two daughters, Shirley Burton of Ocala and Mary Benton of Alabama; a sister, Rena Kilmer of Ocala; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Hiers Funeral Home, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Fla., 34470. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Michael J. Kristian
Michael J. Kristian, 84, of Middletown, died Saturday at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown on July 17, 1915, to Michael Peter and Terezia Kristian. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked in maintenance at Armco, retiring in 1978 after 42 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 218 and VFW Post 3809. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1934 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He is survived by one son, Michael (Kimberly) Kristian, Middletown; three daughters, Dianne Pieratt of Middletown, Kathy (Chuck) Kristian Gang of San Diego, Calif., and Linda (Terry) Flack of Trenton; two sisters, Mary Gaston and Ann Hensley, both of Middletown; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Kristian on Dec. 23, 1995; a brother, John Burna; a sister, Helen Eckhardt and his parents.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard will provide military services. Arrangements are by Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

Lola Larison
Lola Larison, 86, of Middletown, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Feb. 17, 1914, in Middletown. She lived her whole life in Middletown and was a homemaker. Mrs. Larison was a member of the Eagles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Larison. Survivors include a son, Robert Larison, and wife Mila of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a daughter, Sue Richmond and husband James of Trenton; three grandchildren, Tina, Kyle and Kelli; five great-grandchildren, little Kyle, Zachary, Patience, Dominique and Amber; two sisters, Juanita Hume and Florine Huffman; three brothers, Arthur Huffman Jr., Fred Huffman and Ed Huffman; and many bowling and bingo friends.

Velma M. Moore
Velma M. Moore, 86, of Germantown, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000, at Lebanon Country Manor. She was born at Tom's Creek, Va., on April 5, 1914 to James "Frank" and Carrie L. (nee Huffard) Breeding. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, William "Roscoe" Moore in 1997 and two brothers, Voyce "Bus" Breeding in 1996 and David Breeding in 2000. She is survived by five daughters, Carolyn (Darrell) Taylor of Las Cruces, N.M., Joleene (Richard) Lalor of Indianapolis, Ind., Betty (Jay) Richmond of Centerville, Sandra Moore of Dayton, Sunny Raye (Robert) Bernheisel of Germantown, two sons, Allen (Sheila) Moore of San Antonio, Texas, and Ronald Moore of Middletown; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Welcome Smith Schaffer of New Lebanon and Virginia Warwick of Dayton; two brothers, Curtis (Marilyn) Breeding of Franklin and Everette (Shirley) Breeding of Germantown.

Edna M. Nuss
Mrs. Edna M. Nuss, 96, formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Bethany Lutheran Village. She was born on Oct. 27, 1903, in Mount Healthy, the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Hutchinson) Squires. She married Harry S. Nuss on Sept. 22, 1920, and they lived in Sharonville until 1932. They then moved to the Blue Ball and Franklin area, where she resided the past 68 years. She was a longtime member of the Blue Ball Presbyterian Church and the Blue Ball Historical Society. She is survived by a daughter, Verna Stacy of Franklin; a son, James Nuss (wife, Thelma) of Middletown; a daughter-in-law, Lois Nuss of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry, in 1972; a son, Harold in 1970; an infant child, John Raymond Nuss; three grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Evans officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Reading Cemetery.

Dorothy Parks
Mrs. Dorothy (Weber) Parks, 88, of Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her residence. She was born on July 28, 1911, in Middletown, Ohio, and lived here all of her life. She graduated from Middletown High School in the class of 1929. In the 1950s, she was employed as a cafeteria cashier at Roosevelt Junior High School. Mrs. Parks was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. and Elizabeth (Hawk) Weber; and her husband, Noel W. Parks in 1986. Survivors include a son, John W. Parks, and his wife, Jean Ann, of Monroe; three grandchildren, Jodi Mestepey, and husband, Todd, of Wichita, Kan., Joan Hatley, and husband, Todd, of Columbus, Ohio, and Jay Parks, and wife, Cindy, of Monroe; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Mestepey, Hannah Hatley and Lynzie Parks; and two sisters, Margie Oliver of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary Lou Fowler of Orlando, Fla.

Dr. Peggy Pauly
LEBANON - Dr. Peggy Pauly, formerly of Lebanon, Ohio, died at her home in Bakersfield, Calif. She was born in Lebanon to Fred L. and Roberta (March) Pauly and was a 1938 graduate of Lebanon High School. As a journalism major, she attended Miami University, class of 1942, and was the first woman editor of the Miami Student. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the Mortar Board Honorary. After moving to California, she taught acting, speech and stage production at Foothill High School in California. Her interests led her to a master's degree in children's theater and a Ph.D. with emphasis in Shakespeare. Dr. Pauly founded the Annual Shakespeare Festival to challenge high school and junior high school students to develop their acting skills and to expose them to the genius of William Shakespeare. Dr. Pauly retired from high school teaching in 1989 and kept busy directing plays in Bakersfield for Community Theater, Junior Theater, North of the River, St. John's Lutheran Church and local libraries. Occasionally she acted in community productions in Bakersfield and Fresno. Her greatest pleasure came from the success and fulfillment of former students in the acting profession. Dr. Pauly is survived by her children, Karl B. Lautenschlager of Los Alamos, N.M., Kurt M. Lautenschlager of Fallbrook, Calif., and Kim Louise Lee of Fresno, Calif., and their spouses; seven grandchildren; and first cousin, Virginia Williams Peck and family of Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in Lebanon Cemetery, with Dr. William V. Cain officiating.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, remembrances in the name of Peggy Pauly may be made to the Peggy Pauly Shakespeare Festival Scholarship Fund, in care of Foothill High School, 501 Park Drive., Bakersfield, Calif. 93306. Elizabeth Shaw
Elizabeth "Betty" Shaw, 79, of Seven Mile, died Friday, May 5, 2000 at her home. She was born in Venice (Ross), on March 30, 1921, the daughter of John and Mary (Sapp) Epp. She was a 1939 graduate of Ross High School. On Feb. 5, 1941, she married R. Seldon (Ted) Shaw in Dayton. She was a member of the Seven Mile Presbyterian Church and the farm bureau. She was a homemaker, who loved her life on the farm, caring for her yard and tending her flowers. She is survived by three daughters, Sandy Schultheis and husband Terry of Seven Mile, Diana Bradford and husband Jim of Hanover Township, Veda Marsh and husband Ted of Middletown; a son, Steve Shaw and wife Cathy of Seven Mile; six grandchildren, Holly Schultheis, Chad and wife Diane Schultheis, Casey Marsh and Kelly, Katie and Jenny Shaw; two devoted sisters, Eva Fulton of Cincinnati and Martha Rowe of Ross; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years on March 11,1986; her parents; one sister, Mabel Stang and two brothers, Luther and Floyd Epp.

Gabrielle B. Swindall
Gabrielle Bernice Swindall, infant daughter of Patrick and Martha Swindall of Middletown, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Children's Medical Center in Dayton. She was born April 20, 2000. She is survived by her parents; one brother at home, Cole Swindall; paternal grandparents, Bernard and Patty Swindall of Carlisle; maternal grandparents, James and Shirley Pate of Middletown; paternal great grandmother, Virgie Swindall of Jenkins County, Ky.; maternal great grandmother, Viola Pate of Middletown; three uncles, Tim Swindall of Lebanon, Kim Swindall of Tennessee and Rocky Pate of Middletown; four aunts, Cynthia Lawson of Hamilton, Pauletta Steed of Middletown, Teresa Long of Middletown and Jamie Kennedy of Middletown and many great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas I. Stewart
FRANKLIN--Thomas Ivan Stewart, 74, of 457 Kristine Lane, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Big Hill, Ky., on April 17, 1926, the son of Thomas Irvine and Della Francis (Powell) Stewart. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army infantry. Mr. Stewart was an independent truck driver for 31 years. He drove for Ace Doran at the time of his retirement. He was a licensed pilot. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Opal Lee Stewart and Marie Wilson. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ivory (Collins) Stewart; two sons, Thomas Ivan Stewart Jr. of Middletown and Dennis Michael Stewart, at home; a daughter, Ellen F. White of Hillsboro; a brother, Herbert Stewart of Norwood; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Nolan officiating. Burial will be in Woodhill Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lillian S. Stone
Mrs. Lillian S. Stone, 77, of Madison Township, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, May 2, 2000, at her residence. She was born in Farmers, Ky., on Aug. 10, 1922, to James Milton Sherard and Annie Mae (Turpin) Sherard. Mrs. Stone was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She was employed at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community in the dietary department for 17 years, retiring in 1993, where she was affectionately known as "Miss Lilly." She leaves three sons, Dwight E. Stone, Billy Stone and Allen Ross Stone, all of Middletown; two daughters, Zelda Ann Stephenson and Betty Banks, both of Middletown; two sisters, Lucille Blanche Chrisman of Trenton and Beulah Mae Gibbs of Middletown; 27 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Roberta Thaeler. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Stone Sr. in 1993; her parents, James Milton and Annie Mae Sherard; and a brother, Howard Sherard.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Mellott officiating. Interment will be in Miltonville Cemetery in Trenton. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

Betty S. Storer
Mrs. Betty Shera Storer, 85, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 21, 1914, the daughter of Carey M. and Stella (Freeze) Shera. Mrs. Storer was a teacher for Berwin Schools in Maryland for five years. She was also a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church here in Middletown. She leaves a son, James W. (Bonnie) Storer of Middletown; a brother, William C. Shera of Franklin, Ohio; a sister, Margaret Herp of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jamey (Sherry) Storer, Tina (Tom) Rickard and Jason (Tara) Van Nostrand; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Storer and Nicole Rickard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William E. Storer in 1981; her parents; and a daughter, Betty Van Nostrand in 1999.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Ramsey officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
