Mrs. Berenice F. Tracewell
Mrs. Berenice F. Tracewell, 80, died Sunday at 6:15 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. J. Edgar Haller, 1208 Kenilworth av. Her death followed a long illness. Born at Parkersburg, W. Va., July 17, 1881, she was a daughter of Benjamin F. and Minnie A. Stewart Butcher. On Dec. 25, 1899, she was married to James I. Tracewell. After a long tenure of service as fire chief of Coshocton, he died Nov. 18, 1945. Mrs. Tracewell was a member of Grace Methodist church, OES 157 and the Home Study club. Surviving are a son, James W., Houston, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Haller, Mrs. Ernest L. Bolen and Mrs. Frank R. Hall, all of Coshocton; one sister, Mrs. Walter Russell, Ft. Smith, Ark.; one brother, Frank Butcher, Parkersburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother is deceased. Services at the Glass funeral home will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. Aaron Cunningham. Burial will be in South Lawn cemetery. Gerald D. Tice
Gerald D. Tice, 38, former manager of Commonwealth Loan Co. here, died in Bethesda hospital, Zanesville, Sunday night as a result of a bullet wound, apparently self-inflicted. Dr. Louis Berman, acting Muskingum county coroner, ruled the death a suicide. Mr. Tice, who had been unemployed for a short time, was found shot above the right ear in the bathroom of his Zanesville home about 5:15 p.m. after members of his family heard a thud. A son, Gene, 16, found his father lying in the bathtub with a .22 caliber rifle across his legs, it was reported. Sheriff’s deputies said Mr. Tice’s wife, Betty, Gene, and a daughter were watching a football game on television when the shooting occurred. Gene ran to the home of a neighbor, Gerald Bowlby, who notified the sheriff’s office and called for an ambulance. The deputy who investigated said no notes were found. Mr. Tice reportedly had been acting normal and the family said he had not made any threats against his life, the deputy reported. Prior to his transfer to the Zanesville office in 1951, Mr. Tice had been manager of the Commonwealth Loan Co. here five years. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, at Birds Run, a son of David and Hulda Martin Tice. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Elks lodge and the Moose lodge. Surviving besides his widow, the former Betty Retzler, son, daughter and parents, who live at Newcomerstown, are two brothers, William Tice of Newcomerstown and Marian Tice of Rhode Island; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Vierheller and Mrs. Fred Greathouse, both of Newcomerstown, and Mrs. Lewis Tish of Canton. H. C. Walker
H. Clayton Walker, 77, a retired oil field worker, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at his home on New Concord Route 1 after suffering a heart attack. Born in Coshocton county Nov. 17, 1884, he was a son of Charles and Ellen Marlatt Welker. Most of his life was spent in Monroe township, Muskingum county. Surviving are his wife, the former Carrie Rhine, to whom he was married May 12, 1910; two sons, Carl E. and Robert R., New Concord Route 1; four grandchildren; three brothers, David W. and Charles A. of New Concord Route 1 and Richard Welker of Coshocton; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Campbell of Barberton, Mrs. Alice Barrett and Mrs. Lemiga Bradford of Zanesville. One sister and one brother are deceased. Services in the Shirer and Son funeral home at Adamsville will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Earl Lightle and Rev. David Howard will officiate. Raleigh McKee
Raleigh L. McKee, 85, Walhonding Route 1, former Coshocton county school teacher who served as county auditor from 1931-1935, died Sunday at 6:55 p.m. at County Memorial hospital. He had been a patient since he suffered a fractured hip Nov. 29. Born in Perry township, Oct. 5, 1876, he was a son of John and Adelaide Lee McKee. He was married Jan. 15, 1903 to Lulu Cullison, who survives, along with two sons, Carl, Mt. Vernon, and Ralph, Walhonding Route 1; two grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Ruth Cooper, Columbus, and one half-brother, Ralph McKee of Houston, Tex. One sister and two half-sisters are deceased. Mr. McKee was a member of West Carlisle Presbyterian church, Wakatomika Chapter, OES 544, and a 58-year member of Wakatomika Lodge 108, F. & A.M. Services at the Fischer funeral home, Warsaw, will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Clifford Ball will officiate with burial in Valley View cemetery, Warsaw. Mrs. Sarah Glover
Mrs. Sarah Olive Glover, 94, of 1038 Cambridge rd., died in County Memorial hospital at 2:45 a.m. today. She suffered a fractured hip in a fall four days ago. She was born in Findlay, April 4, 1867, a daughter of William G. and Susan Sheets Blynyer. She was married March 29, 1893, to Charles J. Glover, who died May 3, 1938. Mrs. Glover was a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving are two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter and brother preceded her in death. Services in the Glass funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. will be conducted by Rev. Harold W. Kaser. Burial will be in a Mansfield cemetery. Aaron Lang
Aaron Lang, 86, Warsaw Route 3, died Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at County Memorial hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Colfax, W. Va., April 4, 1875, a son of Stansburg and Palmira Shaw Lang, and was married in 1906 to Sarah E. McCord, who died in 1921. Surviving are two sons, Clarence E., Warsaw Route 3, and Harvey, Lancaster; three brothers, Oak Buckhannon, W. Va., Lon, Warsaw Route 3, and Burt, Canton. One daughter, one brother, and four sisters are deceased. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Services at the Fischer funeral home, Warsaw, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in charge of C.P. Mrs. Florence Ruth Cox
Mrs. Florence Ruth Cox, 69, Millersburg, formerly of Coshocton, died Sunday evening at Pomerene Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1900 in Holmes County, she was a daughter of C. C. and Mary Melissa Henes McClain. She was married in November 1945 to Virgil E. Cox, who died July 8, 1969. Mrs. Cox lived in Washington D.C. and Coshocton until her husband’s death. Since then she had made her home with her nephew, J. Virgil Ling, and brother-in-law, William Ling, in Millersburg. Survivors include a niece and nephew; an aunt and two cousins. Deceased are three brothers and a sister. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Elliott-Hartline Funeral Home in Millersburg, with Rev. Ronald Boldman officiating. Mrs. Elsie Goodman
Mrs. Elsie Goodman, 73, of Bradenton, Fla., died Sunday morning in the Manatee Memorial Hospital there following a two-week illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born in Mount Hope and had lived on a farm near Winesburg. She had been a resident of Bradenton for the past 15 years. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bradenton. Surviving are her husband, Allen; a son, Harold, of Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Markley, Cuyahoga Falls; two brothers, Reuben Arnold and Harold Arnold, both of Millersburg; two sisters, Miss Celia Arnold and Mrs. Wilbur Inks, both of Mount Hope; and 12 grandchildren. Services will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mount Hope, at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Joseph Molitoris will officiate and burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Winesburg. Enoch Darr
Enoch Darr, 85, Warsaw Route 2, died at 5:15 a.m. today at County Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 2, 1884, in Jackson Twp., he was a son of French and Prudence Randles Darr. He was married March 14, 1912. Mr. Darr was a retired employe of the Old American Arts Works. Surviving are two sons, Charles Oakley Darr, Fresno, and Kenneth Howard Darr, Trinway; daughter Mrs. Ula (Gladys) Collins, Columbus; two brothers, Joe Darr, Coshocton Route, and Frank Darr of Wyoming; two granddaughters. A daughter, sister and six brothers are deceased. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fischer Funeral Home, Warsaw, in charge of Rev. Neil Wilde. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Mrs. Hazel I. Shaffer
Mrs. Hazel I. Shaffer, 83, formerly of Mulvane St., Newcomerstown, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Rose Lawn Nursing Home, West Lafayette, where she had been a patient a year. Born March 11, 1886, in Orange, she was a daughter of U. S. and Rose Huff. Her husband, Robert Shaffer, died in November 1951. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Surviving are two grandchildren, Dr. Robert Chapman, Bloomington, Ill., and Mrs. John Harding, Newcomerstown, and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, six brothers, and a sister are deceased. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, in charge of Rev. William O. Calvert. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery at West Lafayette. Cecil R. Moore
Services for Cecil R. Moore, 71, who died Wednesday morning at his home on Route 1, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday a the Dawson funeral home. Rev. Thomas Phillippe will officiate and burial will be in Prairie Chapel cemetery. Mr. Moore was a glass blower by trade and had worked at the old Coshocton Glass Co. for 18 years. Later he farmed on Route 1. He was a member of the Coshocton Eagles lodge. He was born Sept. 23, 1890, at Wolf, Tuscarawas county, a son of Winfield and Kathryn Mobley Moore, and was married July 10, 1912, to Edith Tharp, who survives. Other survivors are a son, Raymond Moore, Dresden Route 1; a daughter, Mrs. Francis Starner, Frazeysburg; a half-sister, Mrs. Golda Addy, and a half-brother, Archie Moore, both of Coshocton, and four grandchildren. Charles R. Egler
Charles R. “Bob” Egler, 85, died Tuesday at his home, 226 East Fourth st., Dover. He retired in 1948 from the former W. C. Hardesty Co. He was born near Newcomerstown, a son of Wendell and Rosa Egler, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, the former Ida Plotner; two stepsons, Calvin and Clifford France, and a sister, Mrs. William Blaser, all of Dover. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Toland-Herzig funeral home, Dover, and burial will be in the Fourth st. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Fred E. Atwood
Fred E. Atwood, 85, Trinway, a retired carpenter, died at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday at Bethesda hospital, Zanesville, where he had been a patient since Friday. He had been in failing health. He was born Sept. 1, 1876, near Trinway, a son of John W. and Lucy Jones Atwood. He had been a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Cooperdale Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Park, with whom he made his home; one brother, Elmer of McMinnsville, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Dickinson, Trinway, and Mrs. Fannie Norris, Cleveland; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His wife, Estella, died in 1957. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dresden Church of the Nazarene in charge of Rev. Clarence Driftmyer and Rev. John H. Russell. Burial will be in the Frazeysburg cemetery. Friends may call at the Park residence in Trinway after 7 p.m. Thursday and until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, when the body will be taken to the church. John R. Bond
John R. Bond, 49, Gnadenhutten, project engineer for Alsco, Inc., of Gnadenhutten and Sugarcreek, died Tuesday afternoon in Sugarcreek of a heart attack. He was born June 17, 1912, in Port Washington, a son of Earl and Lillian Porcher Bond. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific. He was a 1934 graduate of Mt. Union college. Survivors include his wife, the former Lillian Woolwend; one son, Thomas of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lightbody, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Mary Schwendiman, Port Washington. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Botimer funeral home in Gnadenhutten in charge of Rev. John Morman. Burial will be in the local cemetery.
