Mary K. Davidson
Sister Mary Katherine Davidson, 76, of Notre Dame Educational Center in Munson, died Sept. 28 2002 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. Born Sept. 15, 1926, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Charles M. and Margaret (nee Robinson) Davidson. She was an elementary and junior high school teacher and principal in Amherst, Elyria, North Ridgeville, East Liverpool and Cleveland school systems, as well as being involved in youth ministry and parish ministry. Talented in vocal music, she organized and directed choirs in these schools. She is survived by Mary Heller, of Lyndhurst, John Davidson, of Oak Harbor, Mich., and Anne McBride, of Chagrin Falls, in addition to the congregation of Sisters of Notre Dame with whom she shared her life for 56 years. Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 1 at Notre Dame Educational Center, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Provincial Center Grounds. Charles F. Foster
Charles F. "Chuck" Foster, 79, of Jupiter, Fla., died Sept. 25 2002 at Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, Fla. Born July 26, 1923, in Philadelphia, he resided in New Jersey prior to moving to Jupiter, Fla., in 1992. An electrical engineer in Philadelphia for more than 45 years, he retired in 1988. He married Barbara Lorraine Hartmann in Berlin, N.J., on Jan. 11, 1947. Mr. Foster was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving the Pacific Theater during World War II on the USS Noa. An avid golfer and member of Ballen Isles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., he and his wife were awarded the national Bell Ringer Award by the Ford Motor Co. in 1973 for outstanding civic and community service. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, of Jupiter, Fla.; daughters, Nan F. (Marc) Burr, of Chardon, Janet M. Garafano, of Maplewood, N.J., and Joan A. Waldner, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandchildren, Marc and Andrew Burr, Stacie and Peter Garafano, and Jaileen and Elizabeth Waldner; and great-granddaughter, Katharine Marie Waldner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel R. and Irene (nee Hohenstein) Foster; sisters, Cecilia and Irene Gould; and brothers, Samuel, Allen and Stephen Foster. Funeral services were held Oct. 3 in New Jersey, and burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia. Rhona J. Fronek
Rhona J. Fronek (nee Cardaman), 74, of Bainbridge, died Sept. 30 2002 at her home. A homemaker, she was a member of Eastern Star Golden Rule No. 442. Mrs. Fronek is survived by her husband, James Fronek Jr.; daughters, Diane (Kenneth) Vencl, Nancy (Frank) Dolezal and Sue Ellen (Robert) Bodlak; sons, James "Jimmer" and David Fronek; grandchildren, Tracy, Lorri, Nicholas, Ramarie, Natalie, Connor and Kendal; great-grandchild, Madison; and brothers, Frank, Roy and Bill Cardaman. She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Dana; sister, Jacqueline Moravec; and brother, George Snyder. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Taborville DTJ Hall, 9510 North Blvd., Auburn. Norma B. Houseman
Norma Belle Houseman, 93, of Garrettsville, died Sept. 29 2002 at Blossom Hill Health Care in Huntsburg. Born Oct. 4, 1908, in Boston Mills, she was a lifelong resident of the area. A graduate of Shalersville High School, she attended Mount Union College and married Russell Houseman on March 16, 1929, in Shalersville. A homemaker, she enjoyed raising her children, sewing and baking and was a novice poet, writing her own poetry. Mrs. Houseman was a very active member of Burton Assembly of God for 63 years, holding various positions including Sunday school teacher for most of the time, and was actively involved in Golden Glow Fellowship. She is survived by her son, Harley (Beverly) Houseman, of Kissimmee, Fla.; daughters, Mona (Virgil) Blanke, of Gahana, Martha Huffman, of Parkman, Harriet (Roderick) Millhof, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Joyce (James) Loving, of Parkman; sisters, Elizabeth (John) Puyau, of Willoughby, and Hazel Jean (Earl) Young, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Lottie (nee Rudgers) Starr; husband, Russell; infant son, Wilbert; grandson, Rusty Houseman; brothers, Milton, Leighton and Kenneth Starr; and sisters, Vivian Bingham and Harriett Mills. Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at Burton Assembly of God, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville.

Leon H. Marmon
Leon H. Marmon, 81, of Chardon, died Sept. 23 2002 at his home. Born March 9, 1921, in Detroit, he lived in Newbury and Russell townships before moving to Chardon in 1989. A hydraulics engineer at Parker-Hannifin in Euclid from 1954 to 1963, he was co-founder and owner of Air/Oil Products Inc. in Cleveland from 1963 until he sold the company in 1970. Self-employed, he established Industrial Enterprises in 1970 and retired in 1985. He married Shirley M. Henry in Rochester, N.Y., on May 22, 1954. Mr. Marmon was a P-51 fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served his country in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland, flying 37 scouts missions in Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with silver oak leaf clusters for skill, courage and ability during battle. A 1948 graduate of Michigan State University, he was a charter member of the Legend Lakes Golf Course in Chardon. In addition to golfing, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading non-fiction and history books, bridge and music. He continued his interest in flying by building many model airplanes. His greatest enjoyment was being a grandfather. Mr. Marmon is survived by his wife, of Chardon; daughter, Linda (Roger) Goldenbogen, of Sagamore Hills; grandchildren, Kathy (Steve) Fellinger, of Kirtland, and Scott (Chris) Goldenbogen, of Jackson Township; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Alexa and Nathan; and brother, Owen Marmom, of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Naples, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Holloway and Lillian Henrietta (nee Gephardt) Marmon. A memorial service was held Sept. 28, and burial was in Chardon Municipal Cemetery. Winfried Martin
Winfried "Marty" Karl Martin, 79, of Chardon Township, died Sept. 20 2002 at his home following a long and courageous struggle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Born April 17, 1923, in Thuringen, Germany, he was drafted in 1942 and served on the northern Russian frontier until he was wounded. While a patient in the hospital, he married Liselotte Arnold on Dec. 2, 1944. From April to August of 1945, he was a prisoner of war in the infamous Camp 404 in Marseille, France. After completing his graduate education, he was appointed district forester with the Bavarian government. He and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1953, and he earned his American high school diploma with honors at John Hay High School. He worked for General Electric Quartz Division for 15 years, from 1954 to 1969. A resident of Chardon since 1961, he was superintendent for Holden Arboretum in Kirtland from 1969 to 1992. He was instrumental in the meticulous upkeep of the grounds, developing its infrastructure and the successful growth of its programs, forming Holden into what it is today. He founded the summer intern program for international students. In 1992, Mr. Martin received the James Newby Award for the arboretum and the program was named the Marty Martin International Internship. A nature lover and environmentalist, he was a member of many horticultural and environmental societies, including the American Rock Garden Society; American and Canadian Rhododendron societies; International Association of Superintendents of Botanical Gardens, through which Holden Arboretum became well-known in European professional circles; Geauga County Humane Society; Northeast Heather Society; World Wildlife; Sierra Club; National Park Association and Nature Conservancy. Mr. Martin cleared his 30 acres of wooded property in Chardon and created natural gardens with collections of woody plants, including over 200 rhododendrons, waterfalls and ponds, alpine rock and prairie gardens. For 40 years, he maintained a small Christmas tree farm and enjoyed watching children, some second and third generations of families, choose their Christmas tree. He also enjoyed skiing and woodworking. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 58 years; daughter, Dr. Sonya Martin (Daniel) Schwaegerle, of Portsmouth, N.H.; grandchildren, Kristen, Peter, Noah and Kate; sister, Erna Eisenmann, of Germany; sisters-in-law, Alexa McCubbin, of Shaker Heights, and Irma Martin; and brother, Wolfgang Holzmeier, of Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oskar and Rosa (nee Raeder) Martin; and brother, Roland Martin. A private memorial service will be held, followed by a farewell gathering, at the Holden Arboretum at 4 p.m. Oct. 14. Lena F. Ott
Lena F. (nee Heiss) Ott, 94, of Troy Township, died Sept. 25 2002 at her daughter's home. Born July 6, 1908, she resided in Troy for 14 years. Active in the Lake and Geauga counties senior citizens groups, she was a homemaker who enjoyed all kinds of crafts. Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 28 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, and burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Newry, Pa.

Edward J. Pavlik
Edward J. Pavlik, 90, of Chardon, died Sept. 28 2002 at Heather Hill Hospital in Munson Township. Born Oct. 9, 1911, in Cleveland, he resided in Chardon for 50 years. Mr. Pavlik was a tool and die maker for the former Cleveland Graphite Bronze (Clevite) for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He married Eleanor Pesek in New York on Oct. 22, 1936. She preceded him in death in 1975. A member of the Church of St. Mary in Chardon and Chardon FOE Aerie 2261, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, watching baseball games and observing the wildlife on his property. Mr. Pavlik is survived by his daughters, Joyce Thompson, of Rocky River, Barbara (Sam) Rayl, of Chardon, and Mary (Bill) Clifton, of Munson; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary (nee Bartusek) Pavlik, and son, Dennis Pavlik. Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 2 at Church of St. Mary in Chardon, and burial was in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Eugene Van Scoyoc
Eugene "Sam" Van Scoyoc, 71, of Chardon, died Sept. 25 2002 at University Hospitals Health System Geauga Regional Hospital. Born March 15, 1931, in Fallen Timber, Pa., he resided in Chardon for 46 years. The set-up man for Republic Steel and Tube and LTV for 30 years, he retired in 1984. He married Verna Ann Fedor on Dec. 26, 1952, in Cleveland. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War. Mr. Van Scoyoc was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1179 in Cleveland and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7043 in Coalport, Pa. He enjoyed golfing at many area courses, including Pleasant Hills and Manakiki. An avid bingo player, he also enjoyed fishing and bowling in leagues at Ernst Lanes and in Cleveland. His most important hobby was his family and being with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Van Scoyoc is survived by his wife, of Chardon; daughter, Patricia (Premo) Panzarello, of Kirtland; son, Robert Van Scoyoc, of Hambden; grandchildren, Dana Green, of Houston, Gina Panzarello, of Kirtland, and Rob, Olivia and Madeline Van Scoyoc, of Hambden; sisters, Louise, Vesta, Mary Ann and Irene; and brothers, Eddie, Frank and Don. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary (nee Perine) Van Scoyoc; and his brothers, Paul and Leo. Memorial services were held Sept. 30, with burial in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Robert E. Ditmer Sr.
Robert E. "Bob" Ditmer Sr., 75, of Astor, Fla., died Jan. 25 2003 at Oakwood Nursing Center in Eustis, Fla. Formerly of Newbury, he relocated in Florida in 1977. Mr. Ditmer was a heavy equipment operator and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1590 and a member of Astor Moose Lodge 2552. He is survived by his wife, Carolynn H. Ditmer; sons, William, of Newbury, John, of Thorton, Colo., and Donald Ditmer, of Montville; daughters, Lola Smith, of Cortland, and Darlene Carroll, of Newbury; stepsons, Michael, of Kingston, and Patrick Wicks, of Malta; stepdaughters, Jennifer Newman, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Becky Roberts, of Hastings, Fla.; sister, Virginia McClain, of Ocala, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Feb. 2 in Astor, Fla.

Preston L. Hill
Preston L. Hill, 83, of Middlefield Village, died Jan. 22 2003 at University Hospitals Health System Geauga Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Dechard, Tenn., he was a 42-year resident of the Geauga County area and a retired plater for TRW in Cleveland. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Hee enjoyed fishing and was a member of Parkman Congregational Church in Parkman. Mr. Hill is survived by his daughters, Barbara and Claudia Hill, both of Middlefield; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Jason) Krukowski, of Hiram; great-granddaughter, Chelsie Krukowski; and sisters, Belle Dotson, of Dechard, Tenn., and Elsie Garner, of Cuyahoga Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude O. and Ann (nee Penney) Hill; wife, Dorothy I. (nee Hill) Hill; and daughter, Sandra Lynn Hill. Florence Kuhlmann
Florence Kuhlmann (nee Ashley), 88, of Solon, died Jan. 22 2003 at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland from complications of pneumonia and a stroke. She was a 52-year resident of Solon. Born Oct. 9, 1914, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, she was raised in Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from Syracuse University. She earned a master's degree from Case Western Reserve University during her career at Orange Library. Mrs. Kuhlman received two mayoral proclamations distinguishing her as a prominent and outstanding citizen. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Tessner, of Chicago; son, Peter (Sharon) Kuhlmann, of Mentor; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Costello, of Solon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on March 30, 1974; a sister, Ann Bethel; a brother, Wilson Ashley; and her parents, Sprague Walton and Jeanne (nee Grossen) Ashley. Glenn A. Little
Glenn A. Little, 77, of Chagrin Falls, died Jan. 25 2003 at his home. Born Dec. 25, 1925, in Cleveland, he was an engineer. Mr. Little is survived by his wife, Lois (nee Taylor); children, Glenn Jr. (Cynthia), of Chicago, Colleen (Gilbert) Janke, of Parma, Todd (Cindy), of Phoenix, Ariz., Larry (Darlene) Ryan, Jeff (Cyndi) Ryan, and Linda (Tom) Broderick, of Savannah, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (nee Collins); son, Jeff Little; and parents, Lester Louis and Alroy Virginia (nee Eckert) Little. Josephine H. Meyer
Josephine Hyde Meyer, 99, of Chagrin Falls, died Jan. 24 2003 of natural causes. Born July 3, 1903, in Memphis, Tenn., she was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Memphis. Mrs. Meyer was a professional harpist who enjoyed the organ and music. She is survived by her sons, William (Patricia), of Hudson, Fred (Jocelyn), of Moreland Hills, and Malcolm Meyer, of Palm Harbor, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Meyer, founder of Meyer Dairy; and her parents, William and Jane (nee Noble) Hyde. Private family services were held. Leonard J. Morrison
Leonard Joseph Morrison, 70, of Chardon, died Jan. 21 2003 at his home. Born Feb. 21, 1932, in Corsica, Union Township, Pa., he lived in Huntsburg before moving to Chardon in 1981. A machinist at Chardon Rubber Co. for 27 years, he retired in 1998. He married Mildred St. Denis on Dec. 11, 1982, in Rock Creek. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a private first class during the Korean War. Mr. Morrison was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6519 in Chardon and an at-large member of the American Legion. Also a member of the United Rubber Workers Union Local 557 in Chardon, he enjoyed bowling at Ernst Lanes in Chardon and in Middlefield. He also enjoyed football and baseball and loved to fish and play golf, especially at Rolling Acres Golf Course in Huntsburg. He enjoyed tinkering to make tools for his work, was an avid reader and was fond of motorcycles and traveling. Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife, Mildred (nee St. Denis), of Chardon; daughters, Leona Morrison, of Chardon, Roxanne (Christopher) Busser, of Kannapolis, N.C., and Sharon (Donald) Hall, of Windsor; sons, Mickey D., of Middlefield, and Danny R. (Tammy), William J. and Ross C. Morrison, all of Chardon; daughter-in-law, Barbara Morrison, of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Henderson and Florence (nee Clinger) Morrison; son, Leonard J. Morrison Jr.; sisters, Mary Siar, Pauline Siar and Kate Morrison; and brothers, John and William Morrison. Funeral services were held Jan. 24, with burial in the mausoleum at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester.

Mickel Nameth
Mickel Nameth, 63, of Chardon, died Jan. 24 2003 in Chardon. Born Jan. 21, 1940, in Rossmore, W.Va., he resided in Chardon for 40 years. A welder at Park Drop Forge for 33 years, he retired in 1995. He was a member of Garfield Road Church of God in Mentor. Mr. Nameth is survived by his sister, Grace (Leland) Marsh; brother, John F. Nameth; aunt, Colleen Browning; cousins, Larry (Nina) and David Browning; nieces, Patricia Hannas, Karin Copeland and Pamela Booth; nephews, Mark Marsh and Michael, Greg and Joe Nameth; and dear friends, Dave, Joan, Margaret Ohie, Ken and Shevaun Conner and Judy Gill-Totten. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Opal Nameth. Funeral services were held Jan. 26, with burial in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester.
