C. Imogene McVicker, 72, of Ada, died on Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 in Baldwin Manor, Kenton. She was born Nov. 24, 1927 in Allen County, Ohio, to Clifford William and Sadie Rosela Hinkle Fredericks. Both parents are deceased. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Jean (Chad) Mullins of Kenton; a brother, Charles Fredericks of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Louise Williams of Lafayette; and step-mother, Violet Ross Fredericks of Lima. Mrs. McVicker retired in 1989 from Lima Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Lafayette Congregational Christian Church and a 1945 graduate of Lafayette Jackson School. She was a member of the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society. There is no public visitation or services planned. Private burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Lafayette Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hardin County hospice or Baldwin Manor in Kenton. Arrangements are by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Lavon Iams, 80, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000 at her daughter's residence in Elyria, Ohio. She was born Sept. 30, 1919 in McGuffey to Joe and Clara (Dunson) Ellison. On Sept. 4, 1936, she married Ray E. Iams, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dennis Iams of Devine, Texas, a daughter, Valera (James) Kistler of Elyria; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Joe (Alice) Ellison of Ada. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Ellison and a sister, Hazel Wisse. Mrs. Iams was a homemaker and for several years was a co-owner of Iams Grocery Store in McGuffey. Services were held Wednesday morning, Sept. 27 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Lee Myers was the officiating minister. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Memorials may be made to New Life Hospice of Elyria and/or the Hardin County Cancer Society.

Eula L. Hartman, 97, formerly of Jackson Township in Hancock County and in recent years of Ada, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, near Beaverdam. She was born Sept. 12, 1903 in Union Township, Hancock County, to Milton Emmet and Ollie May (Hubler) Moyer. On Aug. 25, 1928 she married George H. Hartman and he died Sept. 12, 1979. She was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Moyer, and a sister, Esther Cole. Mrs. Hartman was an accomplished pianist, taught by her mother who was a popular local piano teacher. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1922. She was a former member of the Arlington United Methodist Church. On Sept. 16, 1996, she was awarded the Golden Sheaf Award for being a member of the Jackson Grange for 75 years. She had been a seamstress at Zierolf's Clothing in Findlay. She then worked at Thomas Jewelers in Findlay. Services were held Sept. 23 at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington, with the Rev. Harry W. Scott officiating. Interment was in Bishop Cemetery in Eagle Township.

Margaret M. Schmenk, 87, Ottawa, died at her residence on Sept. 19, 2000. She was born Oct. 22, 1912 in Glandorf, Ohio to William and Amelia (Goedde) Brinkman. On Feb. 9, 1937, she married Everett Schmenk who died May 29, 1992. She is survived by three sons: Donald (Jane) Schmenk of Ottawa, Robert (Sue) Schmenk of Ottawa, and Thomas (Linda) Schmenk of Junction City, Wis.; two daughters: Roseann (Kenneth) Giesken of Gaithersburg, Md. and Judy (Gary) McCurdy of Ada; 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schmenk was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Vincent Brinkman, and a sister Lucille Fischer. Mrs. Schmenk was a homemaker. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. Scripture was held on Sept. 22 and a Funeral Mass was held Sept. 23 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Fr. Cleo Schmenk officiating. Burial was in St. John The Baptist Cemetery, Glandorf. Love Funeral Home in Ottawa was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Peter and Paul Education Foundation.

Beverly D. Burt, 66, formerly of 617 Martin St., Defiance, died on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at Leisure Oaks Nursing Home. She was born on Oct. 5, 1933 in Edgerton, Ohio, to Rupert and Gladys (Gallant) Fiig. She married Eugene Burt in 1957, who survives in Defiance. Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra Smith of Lacombe, La.; two sons: Charles E. Albertson of Butler, Ind., and William Burt of Jolliet, Ill; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gwendolyn Fiig of Defiance and Sharon Siler of Delphos. Mrs. Burt was a homemaker. She was a member of Am Vets of Defiance and Al Van CB Club of Delphos. Services were held on Oct. 3 at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, with Paul Myers in charge. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Glenn W. Noe, 91, of Ada, died on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Bluffton. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada. The Rev. Wayne Albertson will officiate. His body was cremated. Mr. Noe was born Aug. 12, 1909 in Sidney, Ill., to Clarence C. and Mabel (Wilson) Noe. On Nov. 25, 1933, he married Mary C. Hubbell, and she died Aug. 3, 1994. On Oct. 13, 1995, he married Rebecca E. Roberts, and she died Feb. 11, 2000. He is survived by two sons: Norman (Marisa) Noe of Martinsville, N.J., and Eric (Zahra) Noe of Jackson, Miss.; and a granddaughter, Giovanna Noe. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Noe. Mr. Noe retired from Triplett Electrical Instrument Company, Bluffton, where he was a chemical engineer. He was a graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada, with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada. He had a keen interest in photography and amateur radio. Memorials may be given to Ohio Northern University, 525 S. Main St., Ada, Ohio 45810, in memory of Glenn W. Noe.

Elmer Williams, 87, died on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 at his residence in Alger. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at Alger United Baptist Church. Elder Denver Caudill will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 2, 1913 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Harrison and Izania (Richardson) Williams. On Dec. 30, 1933, he married Letha Marie Holbrook, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Estill (Jean) Williams of Ada; two daughters, Leatrice (Wayne) Prater of Harrod and and Isana Kay Brummett of Alger; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters; three sisters, Claranda Whitaker of Edens Rapids, Mich., Dorsey Lyons of Warsaw, Ind., and Revis Krites of Lima. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Erman and Homer Williams; six sisters: Eva Prater, Millie Hackworth, Zora Wright, Pearlie Hackworth, Effie Hackworth, and Oma Spradlin. Williams was a farmer who also worked at Teledyne Ohio Steel in Lima for 25 years. He was a member and deacon of the Alger United Baptist Church and a member of the UAW-CIO 1219 of Lima. Memorials may be made to Hardin Hospice Care. Arrangements were handled by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.

Edra P. Williams, 91, of Trimble, Ohio, died on Sept. 25, 2000 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. She was born Feb. 16, 1909 in Trimble to Ed and Rhoda Gift Lantz. She married Gomer E. Williams in 1943, and he died in 1975. She is survived by two sisters, Neva Lantz and Minnie Chadwell, both of Trimble; a brother, Rex Lantz of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Worthel and Willard Lantz. A 1926 graduate of Glouster High School, she receiver her BS in education from Ohio University in 1937. She formerly taught school at Trimble Elementary/Mad River Elementary in Dayton and at Allen East Elementary in Lafayette. She retired from teaching in 1967. She was a member of the National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, Hardin County Retired Teachers Association, the First Methodist Church of Lafayette, and Liberty Grange. Funeral services were held Sept. 29 in Jagers & Sons Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. David Roach officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, Ohio. Graveside services were conducted by Pastor Mickey Kimball.

Robert "Jiggs" Scott, 75, died on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at his residence in Alger. A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Alger First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating. Mr. Scott was born on Nov. 18, 1924 in Auglaize County, Ohio to William and Lucy (Kemp) (Streets) Scott. On July 1, 1960, he married Velma Dotson who survives in Alger. Also surviving are a son, J.B. Stone of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Vikki (Scott) Goodwin of Bowling Green; and four grandchildren: Seth, Dustin and Heather Stone and Heather Goodwin. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Gary Scott, Clair Gant, Carl Scott and Rex Gant; and three sisters: Bonnie Kendall, Natalie Edgington and Hester Marshall. Scott was a retired machine operator from National Equipment and Molding Company, formerly known as Rawls Tire Recapping Company of Lima. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was on Omaha Beach the first day of the Normandy Invasion. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Alger. Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Hospice Care, Lima. Arrangements were made by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.

David L. Stoodt, 60, died Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:20 p.m. at his residence in Lima. He was born March 11, 1940 in Lafayette to Lloyd L. and Cora "Ruth" Kidd Stoodt. On Dec. 24, 1960, he married Alice J. Kimble, who survives. Also surviving are a son Robert L. (Heather) Stoodt of Lima; two daughters: Janie (Dale McGinnis of Cridersville and Brenda Club of Lima; three brothers: Richard (Pauline) Stoodt of Lima, Galen (Rosie) Stoodt of Ada, and Dennis (Karen) Stoodt of Cridersville; two sisters: Janet Stoodt and Carol Parkins, both of Troy; and six grandchildren: Tonya, Melinda, Amber, Brandon, Collin, and Skylar. Stoodt was a factory worker at Dana Corporation since 1970. He previously had worked at Warner-Swasey. He was a member of Rouscult Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Services were held Oct. 10 at Rouscult Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mark Varnik officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Chapel Cemetery at a later date. Military rights will be by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice. Rosalee Kennedy, 70, of Lafayette, died at 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until the time of services on Thursday. She was born on March 13, 1930 in Lima to Marcus and LaVerne (Mellinger) Emerick. On March 17, 1951, she married Richard F. Kennedy, who survives in Lafayette. Also surviving are two sons: Ramon (Lenora) Kennedy and Ronald (Patti) Kennedy, both of Harrod; a daughter, Renee (Neal) Whitney of Lima; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle Emerick of Bellefontaine; and a sister, Martha Jo Ropp of Normal, Ill. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Keysor, and a brother, Carlton Emerick. Mrs. Kennedy was a homemaker and she also formerly worked in Food Services. She was a member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church of Lafayette and United Methodist Women of the Church. She was also a member of Ayrshire Association. Memorials may be made to Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church.

Ruth L. Kindle, 71, died on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at 3:40 a.m. at her residence in Dunkirk. Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada. Elders Denver Caudill and Paul Blair will officiate. Burial will be in the Dola Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and until time of services on Thursday. She was born on Sept. 9, 1929 in Floyd County, Ky. to Fred and Zora (Williams) Wright. On Feb. 28, 1947 she married Harvey "Lonnie" Kindle, and he died on April 4, 1983. She is survived by a son, Dennis (Shelley) Kindle of Dunkirk; a daughter, Sandra (Bruce) McClelland of Arlington; two brothers: Oran (Pauline "Pug") Wright of Lima and Joe Wright of Arlington; two sisters: Linda (Norman) Smith of Ada and Flora "Sue" Little of Lima; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Kindle; a brother, Aaron Wright; and a sister, Rushie Hackworth. Mrs. Kindle retired, after 34 years, from Wilson Sporting Goods of Ada. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Carey. Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care of Kenton or The United Baptist Church of Carey.

Esther Zeigler, 88, Alger, died at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. She was born on Dec. 16, 1911 to Albert and Mary (Irwin) Tidd, in Roundhead. On March 31, 1934, she married Jay J. Zeigler who died on April 29, 1986. She is survived by a son, Delmar J. (Linda) Zeigler of Alger; a daughter, LaVerne Neal of Bellefontaine; eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Zeigler, and three sisters: Dorothy Shea, Mary Ellen Tullock and Blanche Yockum. Mrs. Zeigler was a homemaker. She attended the former Pilgrim Holiness Church of Alger. She was a member of the former Pleasant Hill Grange. She was a graduate of Roundhead High School in 1931. Services were held on Oct. 6 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Jeff Bartlett officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Memorials may be made to Mary Rutan Home Health, 205 Homer Ave., Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Howard Boutwell, 78 of Springfield, Mo., took his last flight home at11:45p.m. on Oct. 2, 2000. He was born June 26, 1922, to Oscar and Bertha (White) Boutwell of Ada ,Ohio. Howard married his sweetheart, Helen Kissling, on June 26, 1944, and she survives. Also surviving is a sister Mary Ellen Clum, Chatam, Ontario, Canada; twin sons and their wives, Boyd and Twyla Boutwell, Lloyd and Gale Boutwell; a daughter JoAnn and her husband Tommie Freeman. He is also survived by grandchildren, Mark and Missy Nathan, Austin Texas, Kellie and Chris Gray, Springfield, Mo., Aaron and Vicki Boutwell, St. Louis, Mo., Stacy and Kevin Smith, Springfield, Mo., Amber and Dearld Snider, Columbia, Mo., and Kaylea Boutwell, St. Louis University. Also surviving are his great- grandchildren, Michael, Miranda, Kaden, Ashtyn and Avery; several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Boutwell was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. Boutwell drove a Lima-Ada bus route for three years before accepting a position with the National Can Retining Company, and with this position, the family moved to Dyersburg, Tenn., and, in 1962, to the Springfield Can Company. Soon after, he went to work at Lily Tulip, where he retired in 1978. When his children were young, Howard was active as a Cub Scout leader and Little League coach. Most recently he was active in the Confederate Air Force American Legion Post #676 and the Air Military Museum of the Ozarks. His love of flying began when he flew as a tow-target-operator during World War ll. Another favorite pastime of Howard's was watching the Chicago Cubs; he has been an avid fan, win or lose...mostly lose. Services were held on Oct. 6, 2000. Heber Ray "Joe" Conley, 66, of Lima, died at 1:50 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2000 in Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1934 in Bonanza, Ky., to Joel Henry and Laura Amanda (Ward) Conley. Both parents are deceased. Survivors include his wife, Niecie Reed Conley of Lima, his former wife; Helen Spradlin Beggs of Lima; two sons: Ronald (Dana) Conley of Pollock, Texas, and Phillip Wright of Winchester, Ky.; three daughters: Mary Conley, Sharon Purdy and Theresa Reece, all of Lima; one step-son, Herb (Faye) Johnson, Jr. of Waynesfield; two step-daughters: Cora (Tim) Hamman and Phyllis (Orval) Compton, both of Lima; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, 17 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Joe (Evelyn) Conley of Ada; and a sister, Goldie Trusty of Alger. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Jay Conley, Franklin Conley and Phillip Conley; and two sisters: Gladys Tyra and Ruth Wright. Mr. Conley was a retired roofer and avid fisherman. Funeral services were held Oct. 14 in Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, with the Rev. Marcus Brown officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery.

Theodore "Bill" Shadley, 79, died on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at 12:25 a.m. at his residence in Alger. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger. The Rev. Calvin Waugh will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and until time of service on Thursday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home. Shadley was born Dec. 2, 1920 in Duluth, Minn., to John Wesley and Ada Effie (James) Shadley. On Sept. 26, 1942 he married Lucille E. Greenland, and she died on June 15, 1993. He is survived by a son, John M. Shadley of Alger; a brother, Carl (Donna) Shadley of Alger; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda K. VanScoy; two brothers: Harry H. Shadley and Robert C. Shadley; and three sisters: Helen Miller, Olive Henkel, and Dorothy Beaver. Shadley retired in 1979 from West Ohio Gas Company after 34 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was a Life Member of the Ada Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 9381 of Ada and of the McGuffey Conservation Club. He was a member of AM VET's Post #1994 of Kenton and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #199 of Lima. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hardin County Cancer Society of Kenton.

Mary R. Jenkins, 85, of Upper Sandusky, died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at 3:51 a.m. in the Wyandot Memorial Hospital emergency room in Upper Sandusky. She was born Nov. 3, 1914 at Oneida, Ky. to James Franklin and Carrie (Tankersley) Roberts. Both are deceased. On July 19, 1942, in Dayton, she married Reverend William H. Jenkins and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Alice Kay (Thomas) Hilderbrand of Ada; a brother, James P. Roberts of Kettering; and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Craft of Tempe, Ariz. She was preceded in death by two brothers: McMurray Roberts and Earl C. Roberts and two sisters: Cleo Smith and Julia Gay. Mrs. Jenkins was a homemaker. She first worked in the paymaster's office for Fridgedare in Dayton, later taught elementary school for four years in Bridgeport, W. Va., then taught in Dayton for 15 years. She graduated from Oneida Institute High School and ?West Virginia State College in 1960. She attended John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky and was a member of the Faith-Hope Circle. She was active in many capacities with the churches that her husband was the pastor. She enjoyed sewing, art, and music. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the choir. She was a member of the First Church United Methodist in Dunbar, W. Va. Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial was in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Home Health, the J.S. United Methodist Church Building Fund and/or the donor's choice.

Norma L. Combs, 56, of Alger, died on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital emergency room. She was born on Feb. 3, 1944 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Odis and Maxine (Rowe) Bailey. On June 4, 1960 she was married to Stanley Combs and he survives in Alger. Also surviving are her mother, Maxine Bailey of Alger; a son, Richard (Michelle) Combs of Waynesfield; three daughters: Peggy (Gregory) Zeigler, Kim (David) Currence, and Jennifer Combs, all of Alger; 10 grandchildren; a brother, John (Wilma) Bailey of Alger; and a sister, Millie (Ron) Pulfer of Alger. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Bailey. Mrs. Combs was a homemaker. She was a member of McGuffey Conservation Club and Upper Scioto Valley Lions Club. She enjoyed arts, crafts and woodworking. Funeral services were held on Oct. 14 at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with the Rev. James Holbrook officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Sharon J. Deringer, 63, of Bluffton died on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2000 at 9 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center-Bluffton. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, with the Rev. Charles Warren officiating. Burial will be in McElroy Cemetery, Ada. Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Chiles & Songs-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton Chapel. She was born on July 16, 1937 in Lima to Edward J. and Lockie (Bailey) Wahlie. On Nov. 29, 1959 she married Glenn E. Deringer, and he survives in Bluffton. Also surviving are a son, Robert (Lisa) Deringer of Beaverdam; two daughters: Susan Deringer of Ada and Debra (Jeff) Johnston of Bluffton; three sisters: Roberta Richmond of Portland, Ore., Henrietta Lynville of Elgin, Texas, and Elenore Hunt of Portland, Ore.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Deringer was a homemaker. She had also worked at Deringer Appliance in Bluffton, Perry Corporation in Lima and Terra Corporation in Pandora. She was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church and American Legion Auxiliary, Bluffton. She was a 1956 graduate of Bluffton High School. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Mennonite Church and the American Heart Association.

Ralph Lee "Shad" Shadley, 71, died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at 3:06 p.m. at his residence in Alger. He was born on June 12, 1929 in Hardin County, Ohio to Morris Graf and Lavon Evelyn (Guyton) Shadley and they are deceased. On July 23, 1950, he married Anna Mae Kramer and she survives in Alger. Also surviving are two sons: David (Vicky) Shadley of Horicon, Wisc. and Daniel (Janet) Shadley of Juneau, Wisc.; a daughter, Patricia (Mike) Vollmar of Lima; seven grandchildren: Erica, Stephanie, Matthew, Cable Ussery, Mitchell, Sarah Vollmar, and Jaclyn; two step-grandchildren, Scout and Zoe; a son-in-law Chris (Patti) Ussery of Homewood, Ill.; three sisters: Mary Lou Schoenhals of Brown City, Mich., Virginia (Jack) Marion of Brown City, Mich., and Pat (Don) Moyer of Dallas, Texas; mothers-in-law Juanita (John P.) Furr and Pauline (Clarence) Kramer; two sisters-in-law: Ruth )Preston) Shadley and Sandra (Smith) Shadley. He was preceded in death by a daughter Liana (Shadley) Ussery in 1996 and two brothers, Robert and Ron Shadley. Mr. Shadley retired in 1992 from Lima Westinghouse Aerospace, Lima, after 44 1/2 years. He was president of Union Local 724 for nearly 20 years and served as a member of International Negotiating Committee. He served several years on the Alger Village Council and Board of Public Affairs; he was village clerk in the 1960's and chief of police in the 1950's. He also served on the Alger Local School Board. He was a strong supporter of the VFW Post 1275, a member of the Fraternal Order of Orioles Nest 173, Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose Lodge, all of Lima. He was a member of the Upper Scioto Valley Lions Club, Masonic Lodge of Ada 344 F&AM, and Alger First United Methodist Church. He was a 1947 graduate of Brown City High School in Michigan. Funeral services were held on Oct. 16 at Alger First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating. A Masonic memorial service was the previous evening by the Ada Masonic Lodge #344 at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger. Memorials may be made to Alger First United Methodist Church, Hardin Hospice Care, and/or the charity of the donor's choice.

Hattie M. Ewing, 74, Alger, died on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at 5:47 a.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital emergency room. She was born on March 24, 1926 in Hardin County, Ohio to Bascom and Julie (Shepherd) Dotson. In July 1943, she married Dwight Ewing, who survives in Alger. Also surviving are two sons: Monty E. (Joyce) Ewing and Darryl A. (Mary) Ewing, both of Alger; a daughter, Tanna Lee Ries of Alger; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Berta Agler of Harrod and Dorothy Hites of Marysville. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Ewing was a homemaker and a teacher's aide for the first grade at Alger Middle School for several years. She was a past member of Three Arts Club of Alger. Funeral services were held on Oct. 24 at Hanson-Neeley Funeral Home in Alger, with the Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Memorials may be made to the Hardin County Cancer Society and/or a charity of the donor's choice.

Olive Clemons, 75, died at her residence in Alger on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000 at 2:40 p.m. Services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger, with the Rev. David Trusty officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger. She was born on Sept. 19, 1925 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Hargis and Ada (Rowe) Wisecup. On Dec. 18, 1946 she married Rev. Scott Clemons, who passed away March 26, 1988. She is survived by three daughters: Judy (Frank) Bailey of Kenton; Lois (Ron) Lee of Ada; and Rita (Charles) Tainer of Kenton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, E.R. Wisecup of Florida; two sisters: Malvie Howard and Ella Jane (Tom) Alsept, all of Salyersville, Ky. She was preceded in death by a son, Darl Clemons. Mrs. Clemons was a homemaker. She worked as a molder at Wilson Sporting Goods in Ada, retiring after 18 years. Memorials may be made to Hardin Hospice Care and/or Hardin County Cancer Society.

Alexander "Alex" Clark, 88, of Ada, Ohio, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at 8:30 a.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima. He was born Jan. 2, 1912 in Ada to Noah and Eva (Carman) Clark. Clark was a farmer. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 9381 and American Legion Post 185, both of Ada, and of the McGuffey Conservation Club. He is survived by a brother, Joe (Ruth) Clark of Lima, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Clark, Mildred Clark, and Esther Clark; a brother, Raymond Clark, and a half brother, Orpha "OJ" Clark. Services were held on Dec. 30 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. The Rev Calvin Waugh officiated. Burial was in Carman Cemetery, Ada. Graveside military services were conducted by the Ada V.F.W. Post 9381. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Walter Herman Beck, 85, died on Friday, Dec. 22, 2000. Beck was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Gatesville, Texas to William H. and Vallie (Bickle) Beck. He was a paper salesman for a major paper distributor, and he retired in 1983. He received the Outstanding Salesman Award in 1975 for the Houston, Texas area. He was a 1936 graduate of Cleburne High School in Cleburne, Texas. He was a former president of the Rotary Club in Beaumont, Texas. Survivors include two sons: Walter H. Beck of Garland, Texas, and Allen Beck of Portland, Oregon; three daughters: Jennya Giles of Katy, Texas, Priscilla Griffin of Bedford, Texas, and Ruth Ann (Bamberg) Boyd of Homer, Mich; a close friend, Alice Gibson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Vallie Hamblin of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Mary Coursey of Waxahatchie, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. Graveside services were held Dec. 29, 2000 at Preston Cemetery, Alger. Rev. Calvin Waugh officiated. Services were also held on Dec. 23 in Katy, Texas.
