Barbara Martin
Services will be held Monday for Barbara Jean Martin, 73, of Woodway Drive, Twin Lakes, and Jensen Beach, Fla., who died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 12, 1927, in Marietta, she was the daughter of John G. and Helen (Smith) Martin. She attended Lakewood High School and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1949. Mrs. Martin was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakewood and the Elm Garden Club of Portage County. She was an American Red Cross donor for more than 50 years. Survivors include her husband, Robert W., whom she married Sept. 12, 1948; sons, Robert C., Christopher J. (Carol), Shawn D. (Susan), and Kevin W. (Leslie), all of Kent, and Jeff W. (Ann) of St. Louis, Mo., 13 grandchildren; brother, Charles E. Martin of Ocala, Fla.; and sister, Joy Blackburn of Keswick, Va. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Kent, with the Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Thomas Hagerman Jr.
MOGADORE - Thomas Jefferson "TJ" Hagerman Jr., 48, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001. Born Sept. 2, 1952 in Akron, he moved to Mogadore in 1991. Mr. Hagerman was owner of TJ's Cleaning and Window Service. He also was a process server for private attorneys. He was a member of Arlington Church of the Nazarene. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann; son, Bruce Thomas; mother, Beechie (Gerald) Simmons; father, Thomas (Vi) Hagerman Sr.; sisters, Linda (Ralph) DiGiulio, Euna (Art) Hetrick and Pam (Walt) Pirogowicz; stepbrothers, George (Judy) Terhesh and John Terhesh; and father-in-law, Frank (Rose) Sutter. His mother-in-law, Jacquie Sutter, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Newcomer Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Ed Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Kira Pozo
Kira Elyse Pozo, infant daughter of Lisa and Charles Pozo, was stillborn Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001. Including her parents, survivors include her grandparents, Zoilo and Margaret Pozo, Mary Richards and Jerry Richards; aunt, Linda (Ted) Bouck; and uncle, Rick Pozo. There will be no services or calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home in Akron.

Robert Drake
Robert Drake, 54, of 5450 Park Drive, Leavittsburg, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren of injuries sustained while working on his van at home. Born July 7, 1947, in Spencer, W. Va., he was the son of Virgil V. and Ruby J. (West) Drake. He graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1967. Mr. Drake was employed by WCI Steel Corp. for 12 years. He was an avid car enthusiast and certified mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Leavittsburg Church of God. He enjoyed fishing and cared for wildlife. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Garretson), whom he married June 5, 1971; son, Robert D. II, and daughter, Kathryn Joy, both at home; sister, Judy Carrothers of Carriere, Miss.; a niece whom he raised, V. Sue Bayley, at home; nephew, Clinton Drake of Leavittsburg; two great-nephews; and a great niece, also at home. His sister, Nelma Jean King, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Leavittsburg Church of God, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery. Frances Newcomb, 83
Frances Emily (Bancroft) Newcomb, 83, of Atlanta, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Atlanta Medical Center following a brief illness. Born June 27, 1918, in Nelson Township, she was the daughter of George and Mable (Nicholson) Bancroft. She had been a lifelong resident of the Nelson-Garrettsville area until she moved to Atlanta in 1980. Mrs. Newcomb was a school teacher for 30 years in the Crestwood School District. She enjoyed traveling and needle work. Survivors include her sons, Orman of Garrettsville, Bill of Ellaville, Ga., Chuck of Akron and John of Atlanta; daughters Florence Durst of Nelson, Charlotte Andexler of Cocoa, Fla., Lois Warat of Preston and Jean Smith of Garrettsville; 22 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Allen John Newcomb died Nov. 27, 1990. Her brothers, Hugh, Lelond, and Walter all died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Fred Bell officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

John Davis, 57
BRIMFIELD - John K. Davis, 57, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, Akron City Hospital following a sudden illness. Born Jan. 12, 1944, in Akron, he was the son of Raymond H. and Bonnie (Burke) Davis. He lived in the Brimfield area since 1972. Mr. Davis was employed at the former Ravenna Savings (now First Place Bank) in Ravenna and was its collection manager for 14 years. He was a graduate of Conventry High School in 1962 and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration in 1968. He was a member of the Workforce development Board of Portage County and formerly served as a member of the Board of Portage Private Industry Council, Field School Board, Institute of Financial Education, and the Portage Literacy Council. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue (Eckert) Davis, whom he married Oct. 18, 1969; his son, William "Billy" K. Davis of the home; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" E. Davis of the home; his mother, Bonnie Davis of Fairlawn; brothers Robert H. (Bonnie) Davis of Akron, Raymond H. (Bonnie) Davis of New Mexico; and sister, (Michael) Crookston of Fairlawn. His father died previously. There will be no calling hours. Private family graveside services will be held Tuesday at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield with The Rev. David Henry officiating. Arrangements are being made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Ryan Anthony Streem
ROOTSTOWN - Ryan Anthony Streem, 14, died Monday, August 13, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Brimfield. Born Sept. 30, 1986, in Akron, he was the son of Marc D. and Barbara J. (Ianaro) Streem. Ryan was to begin his freshman year at Rootstown High School. He was an avid musician, playing the guitar and drums. He was a member of the "Lost in Dreams" band, and performed at the Robin Hood, Europe Gyro, and The Avenue in Kent as well as the Agora in Cleveland. He was very active in sports, playing Hot Stove Baseball for Rootstown Hardware, Richards Insurance and his team went to the State Championship Finals while playing for Kline and Kavali. He played on numerous Rootstown soccer teams since he was five years old and he was a member of the State Olympic Development team and the Emerald Soccer Club in Hudson. Survivors include his parents; brothers, Jeremy R. Streem of Tallmadge and Joseph D. Streem at home; grandparents, Ronald M. Streem of Clearwater, Fla., and Joseph and Janet Ianaro of Windham; and a great-grandmother, Rosaline Ianaro of Cortland. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. Memorials can be made to the Ryan Streem Scholarship Fund through the Portage Community Bank in Ravenna.

Ruth Ann (McGinnis) Christy
WINDHAM - Ruth Ann (McGinnis) Christy, 52, of Windham, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at home following an eight-year battle with breast cancer. Born June 18, 1949, in Newburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of James M. and Polly (Williams) McGinnis. She had lived in Windham since 1973 after brief residences in California, Texas and Maryland. Mrs. Christy worked briefly for Windham Sparkle Market. She was a member of the Windham High School class of 1967. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, the Cleveland Indians, sewing, crocheting and her friends. Survivors include her husband, Boyd "Butch" Christy of Windham and formerly of Mercer, Pa. whom she married on April 17, 1971; daughters, Kathy S. (David) Dye of Freedom Township, Frankie L. Christy of Manassas, Va., Penny J. (William) Wagner Jr. who is stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton; two grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Penny) McGinnis of Alma, Ark.; sisters, Dorotha "Dottie" (Bill) Walker of Masontown, W. Va. and Carolyn S. McGinnis of Howland Township. Her parents; brothers, James and John; and sister, Mary Ellen, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Thursday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. The Rev. Marvin Fjeld
Former area resident Marvin Fjeld, 85, of Ames, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, of congestive heart failure. Born May 30, 1916, in Oslo, Minn., he was the son of Martin and Mable (Swanson) Fjeld. Mr. Fjeld was a professor at Kent State University for 21 years. He held degrees from St. Olaf College, the University of South Dakota and Ball State and Indiana State University. Mr. Fjeld taught high school music and English in St. Peter, Minn., and Randall and Storm Lake, both in Iowa, before coming to KSU. He also owned a music store in St. James, Minn., for a brief time. He was Chief Warrant Officer of the 2nd Infantry Division Band in the United States Army and served under combat conditions in the European theater during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lydia (Inman), whom he married April 22, 1989; son, Wendell Fjeld of New Orleans, La.; daughters, Saline (Brian) Davies of San Gabriel, Calif., and Carolyn (Walter) McSherry of Kent; daughter-in-law, Carol Fjeld of Wyoming; three grandchildren; sister, Audrey Carlson; and several nieces and nephews. His first wife, Ann (Hoffpauir), whom he married in 1943, died in 1986. A son, Ellis Fjeld, also died previously. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being handled by Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave., P.O. Box 745, Ames, Iowa 50010. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2524 Hoover Ave., in Ames. Memorials may be made to the M. Larry W. Exline
RANDOLPH - Larry W. Exline, 42, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in Nashvile, Tenn., following complications from a liver transplant. Born Oct. 18, 1958, in Morgantown W.Va., he was a son of Larry Exline, now of Calhoun, Tenn. and Brenda (Dallas) Petty of Randolph. He lived most recently in Randolph but also had lived in Florida. Mr. Exline was a self-employed carpenter while living in Florida. Survivors include his daughters, Lizzy of Columbus and Linda, Destinie and September, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Dallas Petty Jr. of Randolph; sisters, Lynn (Brian) Becton and Kim Bland, both of Brady Lake, Judy (Rickie) Frye of Kent; step-brothers, Mike Exline of Calhoun, Tenn. and Jim Exline of West Palm Beach, Fla.; step-sisters, Brenda (Jon) Hall of Kent and Cathy Smith of Montgomery, Ala.; his father, and his mother. A step-sister, Julie Petty, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. David Riggelman officiating. Ida Mae Stol
Former Newton Falls resident Ida Mae Stoll, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren following a short illness. Born Sept. 27, 1921, in Warren, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Plumm) Stoll. She had lived in the Newton Falls area since 1938 and graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1940. Miss Stoll was an order processor for the Hanson Drug Distribution Center in Newton Falls for 25 years before retiring in 1988. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Methodist faith. She is survived by her brother, Jack Stoll, of Westfield, Ohio. A sister, Mary Alice Stoll; and brother, Robert Stoll, died previously. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Monday at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery in Warren.

Agnes Brown, 88
Agnes E. "Billie" Brown, 88, of Warren, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at St. Joseph's Eastland Hospital in Warren. Born Dec. 16, 1912, in Braceville, she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Lois (Lane) Lozier. She had lived most of her life in Florida and spent the past four years in Southington. Mrs. Brown graduated from Braceville High School and Kent State University. She taught in the Braceville and Hudson school districts for 34 years. She attended the Braceville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed traveling and reading. Survivors include a brother, Benjamin Lozier of Louisville, Ohio; sister, Marvel Young of Brookfield; half-brother, D.L. Lozier of St. John, Ind.; half-sister, Miriam Clifford of Southington; and many nephews and nieces. Her husband, Harold W., whom she married March 3, 1960, died Nov. 8, 1978. Her step-mother, Rose Lozier; and sisters, Dorothy Lozier, Helen Sutton and Avis Swanson, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. services Monday at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Cremation will follow.

Terrance Mohan, 57
Terrance "Terry" Mohan, 57, of Cortland, died of a heart attack Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 14, 1944, in Normandy, Missouri, he was the son of Michael J. and Virginia M. (Handing) Mohan. He had lived in Newton Falls most of his life before moving to Cortland in 1993. Mr. Mohan worked as a delivery man for United Parcel Service for 32 years before retiring Oct. 10, 2000. He was a U.S. Army Ohio National Guard Command Sgt. Major at the Ohio Military Academy at Rickenbacker in Columbus, serving from March 1965 to July 1996. Mr. Mohan enjoyed woodworking, traveling in his recreational vehicle and jogging. Survivors include his wife, Judith A. (Hall), whom he married April 1, 1967; son, Michael (Amy) Mohan of Stow; daughter, Lori Mohan James of Chesapeake, Va.; three grandchildren; mother, Virginia M. Mohan of Mineral Ridge; brothers, Dennis A. and Pat J., both of Newton Falls; and sisters, Joyce Owen of Southbury, Conn. and Michele (Joe) McCall of Arkansas, Kansas. His father; and sister, Maureen Batianis, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls. Peter van der Voort, 47, of Newport, N.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Carteret General Hospital. Clarence C. Imhoff Sr.
BRIMFIELD - Clarence C. Imhoff Sr., 77, of 3597 Hanover Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Summit Villa Nursing Home in Tallmadge. Born May 23, 1924, in Akron, he was the son of Fred and Nellie (Geppert) Imhoff. A Brimfield resident since 1990, he previously lived in Deerfield and Paris. Mr. Imhoff worked for the Ohio Department of Highways as a highway worker, retiring in 1990. He was a war presentor in Deerfield and also helped at the Deerfield Historical Society. He was active in the Hot Stove Baseball League. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. Survivors include his son, Clarence Jr. of Brimfield; daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Brenda) Spaller of Brimfield; five grandchildren; brother, Alfred of Newton Falls; and sister, Gertrude Jakab of Newton Falls. His wife, Nancy M. (French), whom he married May 28, 1960, died May 10, 2001. His brothers, Frederick, Edward and Joseph, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where a services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. Frank Woljevach
STREETSBORO - Frank Woljevach, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born May 6, 1929, in Cleveland, he was the son of Frank and Margaret (Linich) Woljevach. He had lived in Streetsboro for 40 years. Mr. Woljevach was a crane operator, retiring from the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 in 1988. He was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Allen), to whom he was married 52 years; son, Thomas (Betty) of Ravenna; daughter, Deborah (Anthony) Hura of Florida; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. His brothers, William and John, and sister, Mary Mount, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro, with Msgr. Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Patrick Austin Wiley, the infant son of Shawn M. and Jamie (Davidson) Wiley, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. He was born May 21, 2001 in Ravenna. In addition to his parents, survivors include his brothers, Trent M. and Ronald Lee White at home; grandparents, Patricia Woodall of Ravenna and Brian and Rosalie Vaughn of Kent; and great-grandmother, Anne Marie Galloway of Ravenna. Peter S. Renner
STOW - Peter S. Renner, 80, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001. Mr. Renner retired from Ohio Power Co. in 1981 after 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Laura, to whom he was married 54 years; sons, Steven of Kent and Mark of Las Vegas; daughters, Cynthia of Portland, Maine, and Bonnie of New Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.

Barbara Vanderink
Barbara Vanderink, 70, died Tuesday, Aug, 21, 2001, at her home in Troy Township. Funeral arrangements are pending at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
