Jean Sackett
Jean Sackett, 51, of Kent died Wednesday Sept. 9, 1998 at Cleveland MetroHealth Center after a battle with cancer. Born Oct. 25, 1946 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Helen (Cliche) and Walter Richard Ingramm. She grew up in Kingsville and lived in Ravenna for 10 years before moving to Kent five years ago. She worked at Gabriel Brothers in Kent. Survivors include her daughter, Joni Sackett of Kent; three sons, Jimmy of Ravenna, Jason of Streetsboro and Leonard of Newton Falls; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; her mother; three brothers, Rick Ingramm of Ravenna, Ron Ingramm of South Carolina, and Bill Ingramm of Kingsville; three sisters, Ginger Ingramm of Ashtabula, Betty Nelson of Kingsville, and Doris Wentz of Kingsville. Her father and her brother, Bryan Black, died previously. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours or services. Betty Terry
Betty J. Terry, 73, of Streetsboro, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Oct. 3, 1925 in Marion, she was the daughter of Carroll and Lucille (Martin) Ervin. She had lived in Streetsboro since 1956. She was the head manager/cook at the Streetsboro Middle School cafeteria, where she worked since 1975. She was a member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church, where she was a participant in congregation activities and committees. Survivors include a son, Donald (Marlea) of Fairview, Pa.; daughters, Debora Kirtley of Streetsboro, Cheryl (David) Lantz of Broadway, Va., Karen (Doug) Hilker of Indianapolis, Ind. and Sandra Hefner of Ravenna; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Ervin of Key West, Fla. Her husband, Charles, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Streetsboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Cox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Memorials may be made to the Streetsboro United Methodist Church.

Michael Tontimonia Sr.
Michael J. Tontimonia Sr., 82, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Sept. 10. Services are to be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Dale H. Sterling
Dale H. Sterling, 80, of Cuyahoga Falls, who had lived in Charlestown for 40 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Born Dec. 2, 1917 in Cuyahoga Falls, he lived in Charlestown for 40 years before moving to Cuyahoga Falls last year. He was a 1936 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. Mr. Sterling operated two service stations in Ravenna before teaching automotive mechanics at Cuyahoga Valley Joint Vocational School in Brecksville. He also had served as a Charlestown Township trustee. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he attained the rank of first lieutenant in the Mounted 1st Cavalry Division, 5th and 12th Cavalry Regiment in World War II. He was a member of the China, Burma, India Veterans Group. A music lover, he served as choir director of the Charlestown United Methodist Church and also sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church of Ravenna. He was active in the Boy Scouts as an Eagle Scout and scoutmaster. He also delivered Meals on Wheels. He took a keen interest in his family and especially enjoyed his granchildren's visits to his farm in Charlestown for hikes in the woods, campfires and other activities. He converted part of his farm in Charlestown into a forest preserve. Survivors include his wife, Vera, to whom he was married for 57 years; son, Michael D. (Rebecca) of Cuyahoga Falls; daughters, Suzanne (Richard) Eley of Cuyahoga Falls and Lisa (Robert) Higgs of Cleveland Heights; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert of Gainesville, Fla. and Dean (Nancy) of Jackson Township; and sister, Nancy Karlsberger of Mansfield. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls. Mary Elizabeth Hughes
Mary Elizabeth Hughes, 94, of Ravenna, died Sunday Sept. 6, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Dec. 11, 1903 in Munroe Falls,she had lived in Cleveland before moving to Ravenna 60 years ago. Mrs. Hughes was a member of First Church of God in Ravenna. Survivors include her sons, Jack U. Norton and Ronald L. Norton, both of Ravenna, Richard Norton of Arizona; stepsons, Kenneth Hughes of Akron, James E. Hughes of Lima and Edward E. Hughes of Stow; stepdaughters, Mary Ann Bisson of Stow and Marjorie L. Nice of Rootstown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Howard Hughes, and two brothers died previously. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Judy Yenulonis
SHALERSVILLE - Judy H. Yenulonis, 56, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at her home following a long illness. Born June 18, 1942 in Shalersville, she was the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Whitney) Peppeard. Mrs. Yenulonis worked for Goodell Farms in Shalersville. She was a member of The Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Shalersville. Survivors include her husband, Rodger, to whom she was married for 37 years; sons, Jon of Charlestown and Andrew of Randolph; daughter, Carol of Willard; three grandchildren; brothers, Edmund Peppeard of Mississippi and Gale Peppeard of Ravenna; sisters, Clarice Eshelman of Garrettsville, Delores Brannon of Ravenna, Diane Wiley of Springfield, Katherine Peppeard of Ravenna, Mary Jo Conley and Barbara Sands, both of Windham, and April Meyers of Newton Falls. Her parents, brothers, James and Larry Peppeard, and sisters, Shirley Avery and Pat Pickell, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Clifford Porter
Clifford S. Porter Sr., 74, of Kent, died Monday Sept. 7, 1998 at the Cleveland Clinic. Born March 23, 1924 in Cuyahoga Falls, he was the son of Lawson and Josephine (Kilgore) Porter. He had been a Kent resident for 39 years. Mr. Porter was a truck driver for Lerkis Trucking in Akron. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Rett); sons, Clifford Jr. (Corann) of Brimfield, Donald L. of Ravenna, and Gary (Nancy) of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His son, Robert, died previously. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Klemence Wojtkiewicz
STREETSBORO - Klemence A. Wojtkiewicz, 76, a longtime resident of Streetstoro, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born April 9, 1922 in Cleveland, he was the son of John and Lucy Wojtkiewicz. He had lived in Streetsboro for 54 years. Mr. Wojtkiewicz worked as a tool and die maker for Ohio Crankshaft in Cleveland. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. (Golonka); sons, Gary A. (Lynn) and Alan A. of Ravenna and Terry M. (Michele) of Bainbridge; daughter, Yvonne L. (Larry) Brawley of Ravenna; four grandchildren; brothers, Den and Henry; and sister, Eleanor Petrek. His brothers, Edward and John, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Golubski Deliberato Funeral Home, 4747 Turney Road, at the corner of Garfield Boulevard in Garfield Heights, where a services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday. Funeral services wil be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.

Zigmund Cieplinski
Zigmund Cieplinski Sr., 75, of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, who had relatives in the Portage area, died Monday Sept. 7, 1998, at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland. Survivors include his sons, Zigmund Jr. (Patricia), Daniel (Marybeth), Phillip Sr. (Vickie), Christopher (Rebecca); daughter, Patricia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His wife, Stella (Jackna), and brothers, Henry and Mitchell, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Golubski Funeral Home on the corner of East 65 and Fullerton Avenue in Cleveland, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.

Arnold Hanson
Arnold E. Hanson, 85, of 4325 Warner Road, Newton Falls, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a long illness. Born July 29, 1913 in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of Conrad Nils and Amanda (Anderson) Hanson. A former New York resident, he lived in Newton Falls since 1950. Mr. Hanson owned and operated a chain of retail pharmacies, a wholesale drug company, farmed and raise Hereford cattle and developed real estate. He was instrumental in forming the first American Little League teams in New York City in the 1920s. He was helped by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Triss Specher and Lou Gehrig and was its first member. The team had formerly been unorganized neighborhood stickball teams. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as a commando in North Africa under General Patton and in the South Pacific with the Landing Craft Infantry. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls and loved fishing, boating and cattle. He is survived by his son, David of Newton Falls; granddaughter, Paige Hanson; and niece, Barbara Alverez. His wife, Ruth D. Matt, whom he married March 1, 1954, died Jan. 14, 1993. His brother, Albert and sisters Dorothy Moran and Helen Hanson also died previously. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls. Memorials may be made to Father Bill Wasson's Orphans and Orphans Asylums in Cuernavaco, Mexico.

William St. Clair
Former area resident William St. Clair, 74, of 2601 N.E. 14th St., Pompano Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren of a heart attack. Born May 1, 1924 in Ligonier, Pa., he was the son of Albert Sr. and Grace I. (Strickler) St. Clair. A former Akron resident, he had lived in Pompano Beach for 11 years. Mr. St. Clair was the general manager of the Portage and Trumbull Country Clubs, retiring in 1986, and was a lifetime member of the Portage Country Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of St. Steven's Church in Pompano Beach. He enjoyed horse racing, playing cards and was an Indians fan. Survivors include his sister, Mrs. John (Betty A.) Gordon of Newton Falls and brother Albert St. Clair Jr. of Warren Township. His wife, Anna, whom he married in November 1953, died Oct. 26, 1997. His sister, Evelyn Tomanio, and brother, Robert St. Clair, died previously. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Warren. Arrangements were handled by the James Funeral Home of Newton Falls.

Peter Bevilacqua
Peter L. Bevilacqua, 71, formerly of Aetna House in Ravenna, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Feb. 14, 1927 in Ravenna, he was the son of Anthony and Marie (Redmond) Bevilacqua. A former resident of Florida and Toledo, he had lived in Ravenna for 1 1/2 years. Mr. Bevilacqua was self-employed as a barber and dance teacher for Fred Astaire Studios in Florida and Toledo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his son, Ronnie Bevilacqua-Blake of Streetsboro; daughters, Desiree and Diane of Toledo and Marie Todd of Ohio; mother Marie Merrill of Ravenna; and brother, Milton Pizzer of Ohio. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Donald Brennan
STREETSBORO - Donald E. Brennan, 69, of McCracken Road, Streetsboro, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Born Dec. 28, 1928, he was the son of Daniel Samuel and Martha (Jefferson) Brennan. Mr. Brennan was an inspector of the GM plant in Lordstown. Survivors include his son, Terrence (Gina), Edgar, Cyril (Cynthia) and Samuel; daughters Erinn Petsock (Frank Jr.) and Colleen Eisele; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; former wives, Bernice and Nohora, and daughter-in-law Karen. His son, Kevin, died previously. Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today at the Ferfolia Funeral Home in Sagamore Hills, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.

Ann Diplock
Ann Grace (Newell) Diplock, 91, of Montreal, Canada, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Born April 21, 1907 in Windham, she was the daughter of Charles and Jessie (Allan) Newell. She had lived in Canada since she was a child. Survivors include a son, Allan Diplock of Toronto; three daughters, Linda Colie of Rockville, Md., Heather Gaunce of British Columbia, and Martha McDougall of Saudi Arabia; and a sister, Muriel Davis of Windham. Her husband, James; brothers, Allan and Howard; and sister, Carrie, died previously. Service will be held today in Montreal. Burial will be in Hudson, Quebec.

Bernice Ensinger
Bernice "Bea" P. Ensinger, 68, of Ravenna, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, following a long illness. Born Nov. 2, 1929 in Racine, Wis., she was the daughter of Peter and Sophia (Fabish) Chechak. Mrs. Ensinger formerly was employed at Annevar Worsted Mills in Ravenna. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Survivors include her husband, John "Jack," to whom she was married 46 years; son, Michael J. of Ravenna; daughters, Mary Ann (Henry) Bragg of Ravenna and Carol (Patrick) Corbitt of Boyne City, Mich.; five granchildren; brothers, Carl and Thomas Chechak of Ravenna; and sisters, Claire Palmer, Helen Karaffa, Marian Horner and Patricia Taylor, all of Ravenna. Her brothers, Frederick and Arthur Chechak, and sister, Kathryn Hresko, died previously. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. Laurence Wright
Laurence W. "Larry" Wright Sr., 57, of Ravenna, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at his home following a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1940 in Meadville, Pa., he was the son of Charles and Marion (Corl) Wright. Mr. Wright was employed by Don Dozer Construction Co. in Streetsboro. He attended Community Bible Church in Rootstown. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lee; son, Laurence Jr.; stepchildren; several grandchildren; brother, George of Twinsburg; and sisters, Mary Roswell of Collins, Ohio, and Margaret Kingston of Washington, Pa. His parents, stepfather, Chester Horner, and brother, Joseph Lowe, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Roy Kelsey officiating. Charles Hinchliffe
Charles L. Hinchliffe, 79, of 6021 Lakeview St., Guilford Lake, Ohio, the father of Mrs. John (Carolyn) Gunyula of Kent, died Saturday Sept. 12, 1998 at the Salem Community Hospital. Mr. Hinchliffe was subdistrict director for the United Steelworkers of America for more than 25 years until he retired in 1983. He also served as president of the Columbiana County AFL-CIO Federation and was a staff member of the Staff Organizers Committee of the Steelworkers. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets. In addition to Mrs. Gunyula, survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jane (Burns), whom he married Dec. 5, 1938; one son; two daughters; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His granddaughter, Dr. Lisa Gunyula Mandalfino, and three brothers died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, 111 Summit St., Leetonia, Ohio, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Nellie Jane Cooley
CHARLESTOWN - Nellie Jane Cooley, 82, died Sunday Sept. 13, 1998, at her home. Born April 16, 1916 in Kenton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Karl and Bonnie (Warner) Daugherty. She had been a Portage County resident for 27 years. Mrs. Cooley had worked as a waitress and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Coy Sr., to whom she was married for 27 years; stepsons, Coy Jr. of Akron, Charles (LaVerne) of Ravenna; stepdaughter, Bertha (Ronald) Hawkinberry of Dennison, Ohio; seven step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Her brother, Karl, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Curtis Heritage officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Shalersville.

Mary Coia
Mary A. Coia, 82, of Ravenna, died Saturday Sept. 12, 1998 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna, after a long illness. Born Sept. 23 1915 in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Joseph and Carmella Coia. She had been a Ravenna resident since 1919. She retired from the housekeeping department at Kent State University in 1973. She also had worked at the Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna. She was a member of Immacualte Conception Church in Ravenna and also the 20-Year Club at KSU. Her brothers, Joseph, Albert, James and Anthony, died previously. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. David Misbrener will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.
