Kenneth Jones
Kenneth W. Jones, 40, of 4780 Fifth Ave. Ext., Youngstown, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998. He was lying on the railroad tracks north of Lake Street and northeast of the Crain Avenue Bridge when a CSX train struck him. Born Jan. 9, 1958, he was the son of Wilbur and Barbara Jones. A 1976 graduate of Liberty High School, he had attended Kent State University. Mr. Jones had worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years, last working for the Springfield Grill in Boardman. Besides his parents, with whom he made his home, he is survived by his sister, Diane L. Johnson of LaPlata, Md.; and grandmother, Robina Latham of Liberty. Visitation will take place from 6 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home, 407 W. Liberty St., Hubbard. Memorials may be made to Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church.

John Ciganik
SHALERSVILLE - John A. Ciganik, 71, died Tuesday Oct. 27, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hopital in Ravenna. Born Nov. 21, 1926 in Akron, he was the son of Andrew and Anna (Liska) Ciganik. He had been a Shalersville resident since 1959. Mr. Ciganik was a self-employed salesman of furniture and a carpet installer until retiring in 1978. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Streetsboro. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines. Survivors include his wife, Earleene, to whom he was married 50 years; sons, Jerry (Brenda) of Streetsboro and Thomas (Jan) of Palmyra; daughter, Linda Smith of Streetsboro; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Stazen of Orlando, Fla. His brothers, Andrew and Daniel, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Mel Grubaugh officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville.

James Scott
BRIMFIELD - James A. Scott, 64, died Monday Oct. 26, 1998, after a long illness. Born Aug. 16, 1934 in Akron, he was the son of James S. and Kathryn (North) Scott. He lived in Mogadore from 1958 to 1967 before moving to Brimfield. Mr. Scott had worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 42 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Brimfield Memorial House and a member of 4-H for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963. Survivors include his wife, Doris (Horning), to whom he was married for 42 years; sons, Kevin (Melanie) of Ravenna, and Kyle (Becky) of Mogadore; daughters, Kathy (Allen Butkovic) Scott of Brimfield, Kara of Ravenna, and Kalle (Tim) Gwilliams of Plain City; three grandchildren; mother, Kathryn (North) Scott of Brimfield; brother, Richard (Frances) of Salem; and sister, Janice Scott of Marion, Ind. His father, James S., died in 1997. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. until services at noon Friday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore. Dr. Bruce Chouinard and Rev. Jim Roma will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield. Ruth Inman
STREETSBORO - Ruth A. Inman, 95, died Tuesday Oct. 27, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a period of failing health. Born Sept. 19, 1903 in Lorain, she was the daughter of James and Lillie (Hayes) Inman. She had lived in Cleveland and Bedford before moving to Streetsboro in 1992. She owned a beauty shop in Cleveland for 30 years until she retired in 1960. She also was a receptionist at a physician's office in Cleveland for several years. She was a member of South Haven United Church of God in Bedford since 1971. She also was a member of Bedford Chapter No. 383 Order of the Eastern Star, and had formerly been a member and past worthy matron of Woodard Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Cleveland and a former Worthy High Priestess for the White Shrine Chapter No. 30 in Shaker Heights. She enjoyed collecting Toby mugs and had traveled through the entire United States. She drove a Model A Ford in her early travels. Survivors include her nieces, Mrs. Barney (Vera) Peck of Berlin Heights, and Mrs. William (Willamay) Harmon of Streetsboro; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Her brothers, Willis and Willard, and sisters, Ethel, Lola, Florence, Sarah and Pauline, died previously. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Terry Bartlett will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Cleveland.

Raymond Chill
Raymond G. Chill, 89, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, following a brief illness. Born June 7 1909 in Ravenna, he was the son of Leo and Carmella (Iarussi) Chill. He was a life resident of Ravenna. Mr. Chill was a clerk at the Ravenna garage of the Ohio Department of Transportation, Division 4 until he retired. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Survivors include his sister, Mary Chill of Ravenna; and friends, Richard and Penny Craig of Rootstown. His brothers, John and William, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Joseph Labajetta, 75
Joseph N. Labajetta, 75, of Costley Court, Kent, died Wednesday, Oct. 28. 1998. Born Nov. 26, 1922 in Kent, he was the son of Santos "Sam" and Sarafina "Lena" (Gliozzi) Labajetta. Mr. Labajetta worked as an upholsterer for Kent Upholstery for many years. He then became a partner in Lane Upholstery until his retirement. More recently, he worked as a starter for Raccoon Hill Golf Club. Following the death of his wife, Beverly, in 1958, he raised and cared for his children as well as maintaining his full-time occupation. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his sons Frederick J. Hinderschied Jr. of Texas and Gregory A. (Judy) of Stow; daughters, Beverly Jo (Lawrence) Recznik of Kent, Diane M. (Jeff) Beatty of Kent and Gay Lynn (George) Pliska of Aurora; nine grandchildren; brothers, Julio C. and Eugene J., both of Kent; and sisters, Josephine Ferreiro and Claire Clapp, both of Kent. His wife, Beverly J. (Reish) died in 1958. His brothers, Louis and Paul, and sisters, Mary and Margaret, also died previously. Services will be announced by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Shirley Ann Mains, 47
Shirley Ann Mains, 47, of Harvey Street, Kent, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at The Briarwood in Stow. Born Aug. 10, 1951 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Vernon R. and Ruth C. (Lindsey) Mains. She was a 1969 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent. Miss Mains was a secretary for the Counseling and Human Development Center at Kent State University. She was a member of the Western Reserve Post Card Club and the Kentucky Race Horse Park. She also was active in the Kent Historical Society. Survivors include her parents, Vernon and Ruth of Kent; brothers, Richard (Cindy) of Cuyahoga Falls and Vernon III (Molly) of Kent; and sister, Linda of Sanford, Fla. Her brother, William J., died in 1990. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Jessie C. Harper, 93
Jessie C. Harper, 93, of 3310 Elm Road, Warren, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at St. Joseph's Eastland Hospital in Warren of complications from a fall. Born Aug. 24, 1905 in Havana, Ohio, she was the daughter of William and Minta (Bloom) Clymer. She had been a resident of Newton Falls since 1981 and lived in Akron before moving to Warren in 1997. Mrs. Harper was an employee of People's Drug Store in Akron for 17 years before retiring in 1970. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Charles (Madeline) Jordan of Phalanx Mills and Harold (Launa) Brunstetter of Warren; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her husband, Leonard, whom she married Dec. 9, 1925, died Feb. 9, 1949. Her brother, Lloyd Clymer, also died previously. Private services will be held Friday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Braceville Cemetery.

Thelma M. Waggoner, 81, of Ravenna, died Wednesday Oct. 28, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Arrangements will be announced by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

John D. Earls
John D. Earls, 38, of Cincinnati, husband of Kent native Susan Perkowski Earls, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998. Mr. Earls had been a Cincinnati firefighter for one year. He was a nationally-known softball player, performing with a traveling team on weekends. In addition to his wife, his is survived by his son, Joey; daughter Jenny and Jayne; brothers Mike and Clifton; and sisters Loretta and Debbie Busch, all of the Cincinnati area. Services were held at the Miamistown Church of Christ, the Rev. Mark Green of the Cincinnati Fire Department officiating. Burial was in Miamistown Cemetery,with an honor guard of 200 firefighters escorting the family to the cemetery and bagpipes playing Amazing Grace. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners Burn Institute.

Thelma Marie Waggoner
Thelma Marie Waggoner, 81, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born March 22, 1917 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Oliver and Daisy (Culbertson) Kreimbihl. She was a life resident of Ravenna. Mrs. Waggoner worked in the Dietary Department of Robinson Memorial Hospital for 17 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Ravenna. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Melvin H. Waggoner; son, Dan Waggoner of Ravenna; daughters, Mrs. Don (Jean) Gray of Ravenna, and Mrs. Art (June) Cline of Fairlawn; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Ferris, of Akron. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Russell Goldner officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Robert R. Schrock
Former Aurora resident Robert R. Schrock, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Schrock was born Oct. 26, 1927 in Barr's Mill. Mr. Schrock played football and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Reed) of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Tom of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Amy Fry of Montana; grandchildren; brother, Jim; and sister, Janet Smith.

Charles Franklin Dodson
DEERFIELD - Charles Franklin "Cootsie" Dodson, 58, of Yale Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born July 15, 1940 in Kent, he was the son of Cloyd Edward and Edna May (Smith) Dodson. Mr. Dodson worked at Gougler Machine as a grinder and was a member of the UAW Local 169. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Dottie A. (Rowe), whom he married Sept. 19, 1959; daughter Kathy Lynn Dodson of Deerfield; mother Edna May Dodson of Kent; brother Donald L. of Kent; sisters Marjorie J. Myers of Deerfield, Elsie M. Deacon of Kent and Emma L. Setlock of Brady Lake. His son, Charles C., died in 1977, and his father died in 1959. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Elizabeth M. Hazelton officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Roger Dale Coffman
Roger Dale Coffman, 46, of Lake Milton, died Thursday Oct. 29, 1998, at home. Born Oct. 28, 1952 in Oak Hill, W. Va., he was the son of Thomas and Avenelle (Canterbury) Coffman. He had been a Cleveland resident before moving to Lake Milton in 1988. Mr. Coffman was a musician and had played with several area bands. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia "Cyndi" (Johnson); son Roger II of Fla.; step-daughters, Tabitha McRoberts and Jessica (McRoberts) both of Lake Milton; mother, Avenelle (Canterbury) Hurley of Oak Hill, W. Va.; brothers, Clifford of Page, W. Va., Thomas of Kent, Edward of Oak Hill, W. Va.; sisters, Vonda Ely of Norcross, Ga., Bonnie Smith of Oak Hill, W. Va., Carol Bunting of Fayetteville, W. Va., Lynn Lange of Levensworth, Kan., and Patricia Cales of Colorado Springs, Colo. His father, Thomas, and son, Sean died previously. There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements were handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home in Ravenna.

Joe Fredrick McMillion
WARREN - Joe Fredrick McMillion, 51, of 166 Bonnie Brae NE, Warren, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a long illness. Born June 4, 1947 in Charleston, W. Va., he was the son of DeForrest and Noralee Young McMillion. Mr. McMillion was an electrical technician at WCI Steel. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving three Bronze Stars and an Air Combat Medal. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Warren. He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and also attended Kent State University. Survivors include son, Sean McMillion of Warren; brother, Charles McMillion of Warren; sister, Nancy McMillion of Warren; parents, DeForrest and Noralee of Warren; nephew, A.C. McMillion of Warren; friend Cindi Foore of Warren and former wife Jean Ann McMillion of Warren. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home at 271 N. Dorothy Daugherty
Dorothy M. (Ransom) Daugherty, 75, of Lorain, the mother of Mrs. Duane (Mary) Kaley, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center in Lorain, after a long illness. Born Sept. 24, 1923 in Blakeley, W. Va. she was the daughter of Roy and Snovia (Proctor) Ransom. She had been a Lorain resident for 43 years. Mrs. Daugherty was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. In addition to Mrs. Kaley and her husband, who is the Portage County sheriff, survivors include her sons, Thomas of Lorain, Robert of North Ridgeville, Donald and William Schoolcraft both of Charleston W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and brothers, Walter and Clarence Ransom both of Lorain. Her husband, Thomas, to whom she was married 40 years, and son, Ronald Schoolcraft, died previously. Services will be held at 11 today at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. Paul Eisenman
Paul J. Eisenman, 74, of Cuyahoga Falls, who grew up in the Stow-Kent area, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998. A life resident of the area, he attended Stow High School. Mr. Eisenman retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls and its Men's Club. He was past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3162 in Cuyahoga Falls and past faithful navigator for Victor Paul Assembly. He also had attended St. Patrick Church in Kent. He was active in the Akron Junior Bowling League and Cub Scouts. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Marian; sons, Robert C. (Kathy) of Stow, William A. (Lois) of Kent and Douglas M. (Kathy) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Donna M. (William) Beck of Cuyahoga Falls and Joyce Robinson of Canfield; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held at St. Eugene Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Arrangements were made by Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls. CHARLESTOWN - Virgie Goodnight, 81, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born April 21, 1917 in Big Ben, W.Va., she had been a Charlestown resident for the past 25 years. She had retired from Darwal, where she was an inspector. She was a member of the Charlestown United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Woody of Ravenna; daughter, Darlene Sams of Charlestown; four grandchildren; and brothers, Charles Hamrick of Ravenna and Harold Hamrick of West Virginia. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Norma Bates officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
