Anna Vrabel, 91, of Ravenna, died Tuesday Dec. 15, 1998, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born Feb. 8, 1907 in Westville, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Hovancek) Vrabel. A former Cleveland resident, she had lived at the Portage County Nursing Home since 1990. Survivors include her sister, Mary A. Kish of Huntsburg, Ohio; half-brother, Frank Vrabel of Beechwood; and half-sisters, Agnes Sted of Houston, and Margaret Benjamin of Mantua. Her brother, Joseph, and sister, Helen Lyons, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church in Mantua, with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.

Elsie Ash, 84
GARRETTSVILLE - A memorial service will be held Friday for Elsie Ash, 84, who died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at home. Born Sept. 23, 1914 in Garrettsville, she was the daughter of John and Bertha (Byers) Suhrer. She was a life resident of Garrettsville. Survivors include her sister, Opal Suhrer of Shalersville. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, with the Rev. John Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

Gertrude Bremer, 69
STREETSBORO - Gertrude R. Bremer, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Akron City Hospital following a long illness. Born May 16, 1929 in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of Arthur and Dorothy (Smith) Gray. She had been a Streetsboro resident since 1965. Mrs. Bremer worked as a cashier at Fisher's Big Wheel in Streetsboro. Survivors include her husband, Harry, to whom she was married 50 years; son, Roy W., of Delaware; two grandchildren; and brothers, James Gray of Cleveland and Arthur Gray of Steubenville. Her sister, Juanita Hardman, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

June Lawrence, 76
June L. Lawrence, 76, of 4349 Hallock-Young Road, Newton Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at her Zephyrhills, Fla. residence. Born June 29, 1922 in Cuyahoga Falls, she was the daughter of Lee and Tessa Mable (McKay) Moore. She had lived in Newton Falls for most of her life and resided in Florida in the winter. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of Churchill United Methodist Church in Girard and Colonyhill Choir in Florida. She enjoyed singing, shopping, crafts and ceramics. Survivors include her sons, James E., Daniel L. and Kenneth, all of Newton Falls; daughters, Evelyn (David) James of Warren, Carol (Samuel) Johnson of Yuma, Ariz., Shirley Grimm of Girard and Jean Bartek of North Jackson; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Elton (Jim) Lawrence, whom she married Feb. 19, 1941, died May 9, 1988. Her sister, Eola Thompson, two granddaughters and one great-granchild also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Dale Sheffler, 70
SUFFIELD - Dale Sheffler, 70, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at his home. Born in Canton, he was the son of Aaron and DeLores Sheffler. A Suffield resident since 1930, he was a 1945 graduate of Suffield High School, where he helped lead his senior class to the Portage County League championship in basketball and co-championship in football. Mr. Sheffler was employed by General Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron for 22 years. He served in the armed services, playing in a military dance band. He attended Kent State University. Survivors include his wife, Susan; son, Doug (Pam) Sheffler of St. Peters, Mo.; daughters, Carolyn (Ron) Mishler of Suffield, Pat (Jim) Fuhrman of Tallmadge, and Cindy Smeltzer of Hartville; stepchildren, Kandy Huffman of Arkansas, Delpha Morgan of Akron, and Amy and Dennis Combs of Suffield; 23 grandchildren; and father, Aaron. His mother, DeLores, died in 1993. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore. The Rev. Harold D. Donald R. Kelley, 72
Donald Robert Kelley, 72, of Ravenna, died of cancer Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at his home. Born Dec. 28, 1925 in Massillon, he was the son of Vincent and Florence (Krouse) Kelley. He had lived in Ravenna for more than 40 years. Mr. Kelley was employed for more than 30 years at Brown Graves Lumber Co. in Akron, where he was treasurer-credit manager. He was a member of the Thunderbirds Model Airplane Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, whom he married Dec. 28, 1948; sons; Thomas (Deborah) Kelley of Elmurst, Ill., and Patrick (Cheryl) Kelley of Marietta; daughters, Susan (Douglas) McLane of Plymouth, N.H., Joan (Byron) Farris of Marietta, Shirley Nething of Ravenna and Colleen (Nathan) Lyons of Uniontown; four grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Reichel of Massillon. His sister, Lois Pettit, died Aug. 7, 1998. Private memorial services have been held. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Phillip Hayden
AKRON - Phillip Hayden, 82, of Rockynol Residence, Akron, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998. Born Dec. 29, 1916 in Chardon, he was the son of Ai Hayden and Maude (Keyes) Hayden. Mr. Hayden formerly lived in Munroe Falls for many years. He was an office equipment repairman for many years. Mr. Hayden was a member of Assembly of God Church in Akron and the Cathedral of Tomorrow. He also taught Sunday school for 30 years. Survivors include his wife, Winnie of Rockynol Residence; daughters, Sandra (Harry) Watson and Iris Hayden; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ciriello Funeral Home, Rose Hill Chapel, 3653 W. Market St., followed by services at 1 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Ravenna, where friends are asked to meet at the cemetery chapel. James Colwell
GARRETTSVILLE - James T. Colwell, 49, of S.R. 88 died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998. Born July 29, 1949 in Youngstown, he was the son of William and June (Steele) Colwell. He was a life resident of the area. Mr. Colwell was a plating attendant at Thomas Steel Strip for 11 years. He had previously been employed at U.S. Steel and Venture Plastics. A graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, he attended Youngstown State University and Tuscalum College. He was a member of the Warren YMCA, and had coached YMWSL softball in Austintown. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Betty A. (Winterstein) of Garrettsville; his parents of Austintown; and a sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Hall of Chagrin Falls. A stepson, David Alexander, died previously. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home in Warren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson United Methodist Church in Nelson Township. Memorials may be made to the memorial fund at the church of the donor's faith.

Frank Parravani
BARBERTON - Frank Anthony "Tony" Parravani, 28, of Barberton, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998. The death is being investigated by the coroner. Born Aug. 18, 1970 in Barberton, he was the son of Frank P. and Cheryl (Hiley) Parravani. He grew up in Palmyra before moving to Barberton two years ago. He attended Southeast Local schools and had graduated from Maplewood Joint Vocation School in 1988. He had attended the University of Akron for two years. Mr. Parravani was a pneumatics specialist for East Manufacturing in Randolph. He was a member of the Southeast Ski Club, the Western Raiders 4H and Teamsters Local No. 24. Survivors include his parents; sisters, Rhonda (Edward) Boal of Barberton and Micky (Troy) Valesko of Cadiz; and grandparents, Lorraine Hiley and Frank Parravani. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will follow. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Sophie Kaczmarek
Sophie Kaczmarek, 85, of Cuyahoga Heights, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Heather Hill Hospital, Chardon. She was a 55-year resident of Cuyahoga Heights. She was born Dec. 3, 1913 in Cleveland. Mrs. Kaczmarek was a homemaker. She was noted for her excellent crochet work, making afghans and doilie snowflakes for Christmas, often giving them to friends and relatives. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Golden Agers Club, the Cuyahoga Heights Senior Citizens Club, and the Cuyahoga Heights Women's Club. Survivors include sons, Ronald of Northfield, David (Ann) of Aurora, and Lawrence (Darlene) of Ravenna; daughter, Diane Sogor of Brooklyn Heights; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Bernard J., died previously. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Kazimier Ave. and E. 71st St., Cleveland. Arrangements are being handled by the Komorowski Funeral home, 4105 E. 71st St., Cleveland.

Debie Baylor
TALLMADGE - Debie J. (Brownfield) Baylor, 40, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at her residence. Born in Akron, she was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Shryock. She resided most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls and the past two years in Tallmadge. She was a 1968 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and received a bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University. Mrs. Baylor had worked as a restaurant manager for Subway in Munroe Falls. Survivors include her husband, Kevin; and son, Bradley Brownfield of Tallmadge. Her parents died previously. Patricia Watts
STREETSBORO - Patricia Ann Watts, 61, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna following a long illness. Born March 6, 1938 in Huntington W.Va., she was the daughter of Basil and Jewel (Board) Frazier. She was a Streetsboro resident for the last 30 years. Mrs. Watts was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Streetsboro. Survivors include her sons, Charles T. Watts of Bailey, Colo. and Anthony Watts of Streetsboro; daughter, Melissa Allen of Streetsboro; five grandchildren; and two sisters. Her husband, Basil Watts Jr. died in 1994. One brother also died previously. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel.

Dustin M. Kollman
SHALERSVILLE - Dustin M. Kollman, 9, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 13, 1989 in Bedford, he was the son of Greg and Rhonda (Spence) Kollman. He was a lifetime Shalersville resident. He attended Happy Day School in Brady Lake. Aside from his parents, survivors include a brother, Deacon, of Shalersville; sisters, Stephanie and Samantha, both of Shalersville; grandparents, Coy and Rebecca Spence of Twinsburg; and great-grandmothers, Evelyn Ross of Twinsburg and Emma Williamson of W.Va. His grandparents, Gilbert and Lois Kollman, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, when a service will begin at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua with the Rev. Albert J. Nichols
A memorial service will be held for Albert J. Nichols, 74, at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ravenna with the Rev. Tom Poremba officiating. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Nichols died Dec. 4 in Ocala, Fla.

David Kellogg
David W. Kellogg, 75, of RomeTownship, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, at University Hospital in Cleveland after a sudden illness. Born July 3, 1923 in Rome Township, he was the son of W.H. and Susie G. (Hawkins) Kellogg. He was a resident of Rome Township all his life. Mr. Kellogg owned and operated the Grand River Jersey Farm in Rome Township. He was an elder of the Rome Presbyterian Church. He was the recipient of many local, state and national honors for owning high-producing Jersey dairy cattle. He served as a Rome volunteer firefighter for many years, was a Rome Township Trustee for 26 years, completing his term in office in 1989. He also served on the advisory board to Ohio State University Extension. Survivors include his wife, Pauline (Smerik), whom he married July 3, 1948; sons, Chris Hiestan of Orwell, David Lee of Rome Township, Daniel T. of Kinsman, Timothy M. of Columbus and Eric L. of Russell Springs, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Richard H. of Columbus and Clarence of Garland, Pa.; and sisters, Susanna McCarthy of Newton Falls and Martha Smerik of Warren. His daughters, Colleen and Carole died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Fleming Funeral Home in Jefferson, Ohio. Services will be held at a later date.

Earl Welcome Jr.
WINDHAM - Earl Bernard Welcome, Jr., 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Sept. 9, 1927 in Marquette, Mich., he was the son of Earl and Agnes (Maltby) Welcome. Mr. Welcome worked for Conrail for 28 years. He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his sons, Curtis, William, Michael and Ronald, all of Windham, and Thomas of Newton Falls; daughters, Elaine McCleary of Cortland, Carol Murphy of Windham and Kathy Scoville of Ravenna; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Ginny Carlson of Pelkie, Mich. His wife, Norma Belle (Martin), whom he married April 2, 1949, died Dec. 26, 1968. His son, Earl Bernard Welcome III died Sept. 20, 1969. There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Patrica Miskel
Patricia A. Miskel, 61, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Akron. She was born July 3, 1937. Mrs. Miskel had worked for Hiram College and Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 32 in Mantua. She was a member of A.A. for 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Jerrie; daughter, Karrie Kay (John) Mikotowicz of N.J.; brother, Donald (Judy) Heasley of Ravenna; and two grandchildren. Her son, Philip; and daughter, Mitzi Sue died previously. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Donald Robinson
CHARLESTOWN - Donald Max Robinson Sr., 59, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born May 25, 1939 in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of Hugh D. and Pearl Robinson. He had lived in Ravenna until moving to Charlestown 11 years ago. Mr. Robinson was formerly employed as an inspector with Allside of Akron. Survivors include his wife, Dessie D. (Cummons); son, Donald Max (Diane) Robinson Jr. of Ravenna; daughter, Mrs. Danny (Beth) Turner of Ravenna; brothers, Hugh Robinson Jr. of Brady Lake and Charles of Ravenna; and sister, Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Applegate of Toledo; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His brother, Bill Robinson died previously. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Cummings officiating. Burial will be in the Charlestown Cemetery.

MANTUA - Angelina Mustacchio, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at the Chardon Center Nursing Facility in Chardon. Born Nov. 7, 1904 in Cleveland, as Angelina Fazio, she had previously resided in Cleveland, was formerly a 10 year resident of Willoughby and had lived in Mantua for the last three years. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane Chinn (Dallas) of Mantua; six grandchildren; brothers, Samuel Fazio and Peter Fazio; sisters, Josephine Zankie, Helen Calta, Lena Bellito and Molly Mraz (Corneila); six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her husbands, Joseph Astorino in 1965 and Eugene Mustacchio in 1985; son, Thomas Astorino; daughter, Gloria M. Laws; and brother, Ralph Fazio, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the McMahon-Coyne Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 37950 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with the Rev. Raymond Hamlin officiating. Richard Barb
ROOTSTOWN - Richard A. Barb, 68, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a period of failing health. Born Aug. 31, 1930 in Parsons, W.Va., he was the son of Claude and Gladys (Kalar) Barb. Formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, he had lived in Rootstown the last 20 years. Mr. Barb was employed for 36 years as an assembly worker at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, retiring in 1993. He also worked for many years as a movie projectionist at the Kent Cinemas and Wadsworth Cinemas, an enjoyment he had since his teenage years at movie theater's in West Virginia He was a member of the Family of Jesus Fellowship Church in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Verna (Knotts), whom he married Dec. 8, 1948; sons, Steven (Linda) of Winston-Salem, N.C. and David of Bucyrus; daughters, Cathy (Larry) Angel of Garrettsville and Debbie (Bob) Kruger of Tallmadge; sisters, Judy Thomas of Charleston, S.C. and Barbara Gamble of Atlanta, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Goebel officiating. Burial will be in the Rootstown Cemetery.
