Nancy C. Bowers
RANDOLPH - Nancy C. (Emery) Bowers, 62, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 16, 1936 in Akron, she was the daughter of Herman and Margaret (McGrath) Emery. She lived in Atwater before moving to Randolph in 1955. Mrs. Bowers was an Avon representative and a member of the President's Club. Survivors include her husband, Jack E.; son, Michael A. (Pamala) of Kent; daughters, Theresa A. (James) Musgrove of Akron and Anita L. (Donald) Wassam of Randolph; and four grandchildren. Her sister, Nola Jagiela, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.

Jack L. Foster
A memorial service will be held Sunday for Jack L. Foster Sr., 66, of Ravenna, who died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Akron City Hospital. Born Oct. 8, 1932 in Clarksville, Pa., he was the son of Ralph L. and Pauline (Hossler) Foster. He moved to Ravenna in 1998. Mr. Foster worked as a coal gauger on the river and coal tipples. He was a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Duffy), whom he married Aug. 20, 1960; son, Steve of Carlisle, Pa.; daughters, Diane Kramer of Heath, Ohio, and Tammy Deems of Clarksville, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; father and stepmother, Ralph L. and Billie of Randolph; brothers, Gary, Ralph, Reg and Bill; and sisters, Nancy Hagen, Alice Ahmed, Dorothy Pvats and Renee Leighty. His son, Jack L. Jr.;grandsons, Jack Foster III and Randall Deems Jr.; and mother died previously. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Charlestown United Methodist Church ,with the Rev. Norma Bates officiating. Jefferson Funeral Home in Jefferson, Pa., handled arrangements.

Lois V. (Reed) McKinley
Lois V. (Reed) McKinley, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born July 10, 1909 in Alliance, she was a Ravenna resident most of her life. Mrs. McKinley donated her body to the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Survivors include her niece, Suzanne Sheppard. There will be no services.

Thomas R. Hayden
Thomas R. Hayden, 79, of Beverly, Ohio, a former Portage County resident, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Autumn Healthcare in Beverly. Born Feb. 25, 1919 in Dairy, Pa., he was the son of Francis and Georgia Hayden. He formerly lived in Lake Milton, Mantua and Shalersville. Mr. Hayden was an ARO man at the Lordstown Chevrolet plant until he retired. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Belgium, Germany and France and was decorated four times. He was a member and a former chaplain of American Legion Post No. 737 in Lake Milton. Survivors include his wife, Betty D., whom he married March 1, 1968; son, Terry of Stockport; one grandchild; brothers, Pete of Mantua, Dick of Akron, Paul of Center, Texas, Chuck of Ravenna and Ed of Washington. Six of his brothers and sisters died previously. There were no services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were handled by McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly.

Arthur G. Schmitt
Arthur G. Schmitt, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999. Born July 25, 1925 in St. Joseph, he was the son of George and Louise (Krebs) Schmitt. He had lived in Stow since 1966. Mr. Schmitt retired as a self-employed mold maker in 1982 after 25 years. A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 175 in Stow. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, to whom he had been married 49 years; son, Tim of Lakemore; daughter, Luellen (Steve) Robertson of Leavenworth, Kan.; three grandchildren; brother, Fred of Akron; sisters, Alice Locher of Tallmadge, Louise (David) Goodhart of Hartville and Bernadette (Donald) Brown of Green. Calling hours will be 6 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, with the Rev. Jim Roma officiating. Entombment will be in Northlawn Mausoleum in Cuyahoga Falls.

Carl DeWitt
SUFFIELD - Carl DeWitt Mallory, 71, of Suffield, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999. Born in Akron, he was the son of Gerald and Virginia Mallory. He was a life resident of the area. Mr. Mallory was employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron as a stationary engineer, retiring in 1997 after 50 years of service. He earned his engineering degree from the University of Akron. Survivors include his wife, Rose, to whom he was married 47 years; sons, Archer L. (Mada) and Daniel L., both of Akron; daughter, Beth Ann (Chris) Haller of New Jersey; two grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Fisher of Portage Lakes. His sister, Mary, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Earl F. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.

Dollie Goff
Dollie Goff, 76, of Diamond, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. Born May 21, 1922, in Toler, Ky., she was the daughter of Asa and Nancy (Muncey) May. Mrs. Goff was a waitress and cook at Petrucci's Restaurant in Salem, where she retired in 1977. She was a member of Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church in Kentucky. Survivors include daughters, Frances "Bonnie" Greene of Akron, Martha Lewis of Diamond and Donna Jean Ray of Pikeville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, John B., whom she married Oct. 17, 1945, died in 1985. A son, Tracy, brothers Willard, Jeff, Andy and George May and sisters Ella Miller, Louise Muncy, Bessie Rape and Rose Copley also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church in Kentucky, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Arrangements were made by Lane Funeral Home.

Robert F. Glassner
MANTUA - Robert F. Glassner, 67, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the Hospice Care Center in Copley after an extended illness. Born Sept. 30, 1931 in Garfield Hts., he was the son of Leonard and Mayme (Marek) Glassner. He was a former resident of Garfield Hts. and Cleveland, moving to Mantua in 1970. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School. Mr. Glassner was an insurance agent from 1970 to 1978 for the National Life Insurance Company in Warren. From 1978 to 1993, he and his wife were the owner-operators of "The Other Place" restaurant and lounge in Mantua. Mr. Glassner was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua, American Legion Post No. 193 of Mantua and the Knights of Columbus of Mantua. He was an avid computer operator and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen "Kay" (Finucan) Glassner; sons, John (Alice) Glassner of Conifer, Colo., William (Joy) Glassner of Garrettsville and David Glassner of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Susan (James) Wood of Mantua; six grandchildren; and sisters, Jean Glassner of Broadview Hts. and Eleanor Zsigrai of Garfield Hts. His son, Robert J. died in 1956. A sister also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.

Margaret Ann Proctor
Margaret Ann Proctor, 60, of Kent, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Services will be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Miriam Low Baier
Former Kent resident, Miriam Low Baier, 102, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Akron City Hospital in Akron after a short illness. Born Oct. 7, 1896, in Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of Archibald and Paule (de Dabdo) Low. She lived in West Orange, N.J. for 55 years prior to moving to Kent in 1981. Within the last year she was a resident of Cherry Creek Acres in Stow and Heather Knoll in Tallmadge. She was a member of the Lap Robes group at Kentway Retirement Center, the Senior Citizens and the Grandmother's Clubs. Survivors include her son, C. Howard (Marie) Baier of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, Nancy B. (Walter) Adams of Kent; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles died in 1963. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Kent with the Rev. Robert Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, N.J. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 118 S. Mantua St., Kent, 44240.

Frances Piltz
Frances Piltz, 75, of Kent, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Hospice Care Center of Fairlawn. Born April 25, 1923 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Eva (Davis) Mittendorf. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. Survivors include her husband, George; sons, George Jr. (Barbara) of Kent, Jack (Cheryl) of Tallassee, Tenn., Joe (Louise) of Ravenna and Jim (Kim) of Kent; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her brother, Harold Mittendorf, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care Center of Fairlawn, 3358 Ridgewood Drive, Akron 44333.

David Pitkovich
David Pitkovich, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999 at Community Skilled Nursing Home. Arrangements are being handled by James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Lula Rainer Love
WINDHAM - Lula Rainer Love, 73, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999. Born July 6, 1925, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of Hiley A. Rainer and Lula Williams Rainer Keirns. Mrs. Love had been a homemaker. Survivors include her mother of McConnelsville; sons, Alfred and David of Windham, and Raymond of McConnelsville; brothers, Gerald, Alvin and Hiley Rainer, all of Stockport, and Lee of White House, Texas; sisters, Laverne Wogan of Chesterhill and Cleo Gold of Athens; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Her husband, Francis W. Love, died June 22, 1965. Her son, Francis; brother, Harold; and sister, Eleanor, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Stone-Matheny Funeral Home in Chesterhill, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Esther Mary Kilby
COVENTRY - Esther Mary Kilby, 77, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999. She was born Dec. 26, 1921 in Akron. Mrs. Kilby had been employed as a nurse's aid at Akron General Hospital. She also worked at the Ravenna Arsenal during the war. She was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple and a former member of Grace Baptist Church. She loved bowling, knitting and living each day to the fullest. Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Kilby of Columbus and Vickie (David J.) Graham of Akron; two grandchildren; sisters, Nina Kilby of Tenn. and Beatrice (Garland) Coleman of N.C.; and Bonnie Davis. Her husband of 35 years, Otis Kilby; and brother, Arthur Sours, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (S.R. 619) and one hour prior to the service, which will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Dr. Charles F. Billington officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.

Louis J. Chicko
NEWTON FALLS - Louis J. Chicko, 86, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. Born April 8, 1912, in Dunbar, Pa., he was the son of James J. Chicko and Theresa Mather. Formerly of Pennsylavania, he had been a resident of Newton Falls since 1929. Mr. Chicko had worked for Copperweld Steel for 32 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. Survivors include daughters, Betty Jean Sheely of Newton Falls, Marilyn (Philip) Partin of Forest, Va., Carol Ann Sheldon of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Patricia (Joseph) Dubus of Warren; brothers, Anthony of Newton Falls, Sylvester of Sharon, Pa., John of Newton Falls and Richard of Warren; and sisters, Natalie Setting and Mary Sebben, both of Warren, and Margaret (John) Krivjansky of Sharon, Pa. His wife, Mary Ann Bulvony died Sept. 29, 1979. They had married Oct. 15, 1933. Brothers, Joseph, Frank and James; sisters, Angeline Nemet and Elizabeth Marchgiano; and one grandson died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at James Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Services also will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
