Margaret Conn
Margaret A. Conn, 87, of Randolph died unexpectedly Friday, May 22, 1998. Born Aug. 31, 1910 in Deerfield, she was the daughter of Eli A. and Harriet E. (Richards) Lilley. She had lived in Randolph since 1940. Mrs. Conn had worked as the postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Randolph. She was a member of the Randolph United Methodist Church, Randolph Ladies Cemetery Association, Hayseed Club of Randolph and joined the Atwater Grange in 1924. Survivors include her husband, Melvin; sons, Bruce and Paul Stanford of Randolph; two granddaughters; and four step children. Her first husband, Donald Stanford, died in 1946. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. William Graham officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph. Memorials may be made to the Randolph Fire Department.

Scott Bouch
Scott Bouch, 23, of Wadsworth, the brother of Mary Bouch of Kent, died Thursday, May 21, 1998 on Merriman Road in Akron of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash. Mr. Bouch was a cook at Liberty Street Brewing Co. in Akron. He was a graduate of Padua Franciscan High School in Parma. He also attended classes at Cuyahoga Community College, where he wanted to pursue a culinary studies degree. He enjoyed cooking, and dreamed of someday being a chef and opening his own restaurant in the Cleveland area. He also enjoyed bicycle riding and working with computers. He loved music and had an extensive CD collection. He also enjoyed outside projects and often helped his father with yard work and home building projects. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball. Survivors include his parents, Glenn Sr. and Janet (Mesker) Bouch of Wadsworth; brothers Glenn of Mayfield Heights and Tom of Akron; and sisters Mary Bouch (Jeff Koslow) of Kent and Laura of Warren. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, S.R. 18, Medina. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Padua Franciscan High School Scholarship Fund.

Frances McCardel
Frances J. McCardel, 93, of Ravenna, died Thursday, May 21, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a period of declining health. Born Jan. 1, 1905 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of Leopold and Maria (Hurych) Michalec. She lived in Ravenna for more than 68 years. Mrs. McCardel was a school teacher and held a lifetime teaching certificate. Survivors include her son, Larry (Becky) McCardel of Rootstown; daughters, Patricia McCardel of Ravenna and Mrs. Fred (Margaret) James of Ravenna; four grandchildren; brother, Charles Michalec of Vermillion; and sister, Helen Reeser of Beverly Hills, Fla. Her husband, Lawson, died in 1993. Brothers Harry and William Michalec and sister Mary Webber also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dannie Main Former Diamond resident Dannie Main, 45, of Arley, Ala., died Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in Tampa, Fla. of a heart attack. Mr. Main had been on a business meeting for the Keibler/Thompson Corp., for which he worked. Before moving to Alabama, was a life resident of Diamond. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Michael of Ravenna; daughter, Jennifer of Alabama; mother, Virginia and step-father, Alfred Newlin of Diamond; brothers James Monroe of North Carolina, Larry of Akron and Thomas of Arley, Ala.; and sisters Linda Wilson of North Jackson, Mary Faulhaber of Palmyra, and Jeannine of Akron. His father, Lloyd Dale Main, died previously. Services were held May 18 at Nickles Funeral Home in Addison, Ala.

C.R. "Pat" Johnson
C.R. "Pat" Johnson, 63, of Ernlee Drive, Stow, died Friday, May 22, 1998 at Akron General Medical Center. Born Aug. 17, 1934 in Portsmouth, he was the son of Joseph and Pearl Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired in 1989 after working 27 years at Huntington National Bank, where he was manager of the west side office in Kent. After his retirement, he worked as a bus driver for Kent City Schools. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid motorcyclist and active bowler. He was a former member and past president of the Brimfield Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (Safranek), whom he married Oct. 15, 1955; sons, Richard (Laurie) and Kenneth (Sherry), both of Stow; daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Schlarb of Brimfield, and Deborah (Don) Crowe of Ravenna; five grandchildren; brother, Robert (Jo) of Denver, Colo.; and sisters, Doris (L.D.) Baker of Ravenna, and Betty (Jim) Reiter of Masury. His brother, Paul, died in 1979. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Mary Willis officiating. Burial will be in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom. Memorials may be made to the Stow Fire Department, emergency equipment fund, 3800 Darrow Road.

Allen Lentz
HIRAM TOWNSHIP _ Allen E. Lentz, 62, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Akron City Hospital after a construction fall at his home. Born June 24, 1935 in Berks County, Pa., he was the son of John T. and Verna (Zeller) Lentz. A former Cleveland Heights resident, he had been a Hiram area resident for 27 years. Mr. Lentz was a self-employed contractor for 25 years. He previously was assistant director of research for Master Builders in Cleveland. He earned a bachelor's degree from Albright College and a master's degree from Northwestern University. He was a member of the Hiram Township Zoning Board of Appeals. A life member of the American Trapshooters Association, he was the recipient of many awards as a master trapshooter. Survivors include his wife, Virginia R. (Bachner), whom he married Jan. 10, 1959; sons, Gregory (Nancy) of Chardon and Kirk of Niles, Ill.; daughter, Karen (Jim) Cecere; four grandchildren; sister, Rita Lentz of Wyomissing, Pa; and mother-in-law, Virginia Bachner of Garrettsville. His sister, Myrtle, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 tonight and noon until services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. The Rev. Dwaine Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram.

William Felter
William R. Felter, 76, of 218 W. Main St., Shelby, Ohio, the father of William Jr. (LIz) Felter of Kent, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Felter retired from Miami Systems in Shelby in 1985. He was a U.S. Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Ranger. In addition to his son in Kent, survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae (Augenstein); sons, Robert (Jackie) of Shelby and Michael (Sharon) of Sandusky; daughter Patty (Nathan) Dappen of Columbus; ; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brothera and two sisters. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where a wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Burial with military honors will be in the Most Pure Heart Of Mary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary School or to Shelby Little League in care of Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Philip Powell
Philip O. Powell, 83, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna after a period of failing health. Born Jan. 18, 1915 in Bethel, Ohio, he was the son of Philip O. and Blanche (Underwood) Powell, Sr. He was a resident of Ravenna for most of his life. He also livied in Akron for several years. Mr. Powell was a machinist at Taylor-Winfield Co. in Warren and Byers Machine Co. in Ravenna. He was an active member of the Kent and Ravenna Jehovah's Witnesses congregations. Survivors include his randsons, Charles Luzader of Ravenna and Philip Luzader of Kent; and friends, Dee Dee and Christopher Breauchy of Newton Falls. His wife, Agatha, died in 1997. His daughter, Wanda Lee Luzader, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lovers Lane, Ravenna, with Mr. Henry Jakob officiating. Memorials may be made to the World Wide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Florence Podojil
Services were held Monday for Florence Jean Podojil, 44, who died Saturday, May 23, 1998. Born in Youngstown, she was a resident of the area for 43 years. Mrs. Podojil was a sales assistant at Dairy Mart. Survivors include her husband James A.; son, Travis Aaron Hawkins of Ravenna; daughter, Erica Dawn (Mike) Shields of Tallmadge; two grandchildren; and brother, William Lloyd Benham, Jr. of Massillon. Services were held at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home in Tallmadge. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Youngstown. Memorials may be made to the family.

Eva Irimie
Eva L. Irimie, 77, of Ravenna, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born May 21, 1921 in Mannington, W. Va., she was the daughter of Breamer and Jessie (Church) Dunnington. She had been a Ravenna resident since 1970. Mrs. Irimie was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church in Alliance, Credinta Auxiliary of the church, a former church choir member and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 166 of Alliance. Survivors include her husband, George, whom she married Dec. 22, 1956; son, Bob of Fairmont, W. Va.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, C. W. Dunnington of Fairmont. Her brothers, George and Howard Dunnington, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, with the body to lie in state for one hour before a Saracusta service at 8 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church in Alliance, with the Rev. Raymond J. Samoila officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church Ladies Auxiliary.

MILDRED CASTO, 84
A memorial service will be held Sunday in Ravenna for Mildred Irene Casto, 84, of North Fort Myers, Fla., a life resident of Portage County, who died Sunday, October 19, 1997 at her home. Mrs. Casto was the daughter of William and Tracy Hansen. She was a 1931 graduate of Ravenna Township High School in 1931, where she excelled in basketball and swimming. She was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234 and was elected to the College of Regents of the Moose Club in 1987. She enjoyed fishing and followed the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians enthusiastically. Survivors include her husband, Ernest (Pete); sons, Larry (Mary) Harper of Streetsboro, Gary (Linda) Huber of Ravenna and William (Sandra) Huber of Paris; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Casto of Ravenna; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Parolini of Dover. Her brothers, Herbert and Emmitt Hansen, sister, Ella Pissocra, and grandson, Ed Huber, died previously. Cremation took place in North Fort Myers, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234 followed by a memorial service officiated by her eldest son, Larry W. Harper. Local arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

RUSSELL THOMPSON, 82
Russell Thompson, 82, of Tucson, Ariz., a former Mantua resident, died Sunday, May 17, 1998 at his home. Born April 13, 1916 in Cleveland, he was the son of Andrew and Clara (Johnson) Thompson. A 1934 graduate of Mantua Village High School, he lived in Mantua from 1928 through World War II, then moved to Tucson 50 years ago. Mr. Thompson and his wife, Bernice, owned and operated Thompson's Trailer Town in Tucson. He later was a mail carrier and worked in the accounting department of the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1982. Survivors include his son, Russell E. (Deborah); daughters, Joan Darnell (George) and Molly Rising (Charles); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Edward of Reminderville. His wife died previously. Graveside services were held in Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson.

CHARLOTTE HUDGINS, 84
Charlotte Edna Robinson Hudgins, 84, the mother of Susan Barnard of Kent, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998. Born in Beaver Falls, Pa., she was the daughter of John Wesley and Edna Mae (Sheldrake) Robinson. She had lived in Cleveland, Columbia, S.C., and Winter Park, Fla. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1931 and Western Reserve University, Flora Stone Mather College in 1937. Mrs. Hudgins retired from Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Florida. In addition to her daughter in Kent, survivors include her son, Thomas J. (Margaret) Brownfield of Houston, Texas; son-in-law, Thomas J. Hines of Kent; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister. She was married to John Brownfield and William Hudgins. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Wesley Chapel, United Methodist Church of Kent. Arrangements were made by Billow Falls Chapel in Cuyahoga Falls. Memorials may be made to the Kevin Coleman Foundation, 5982 Rhodes Rd., Kent.

Mary H. Farley, 87
Mary Hilda Farley, 87, of Ravenna, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Nursing Home in Ravenna after a long illness. Born in 1911 in Krayn, Pa., was a longtime Akron resident before moving to Longmeadow eight years ago. Mrs. Farley was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Akron. Survivors include her sons, Richard (Karlee) of Montpelier and Thomas (Patricia) of Ravenna; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, James Bender of Krayn, Pa.; and sister, Catherine Kozar of Maple Heights. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Arrangements are being made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Memorials may be made to charity.

Wesley C. Stringer, 85
Wesley C. Stringer, 85, of Kent died Wednesday, May 27, 1998. Born April 6, 1913, in Kent, he was the son of John C. and Adelaide (Cunningham) Stringer. He graduated from Kent University School and attended Kent State University. Mr. Stringer retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after 25 years as an inspector. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Rockton Masonic Lodge in Kent, the Tadmor Shrine of Akron, Scottish rite. He was a master mason. He also was active in the Kent Kiwanis Club and the Men's Garden Club of Kent. He was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church and First Families of Ohio. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Lynn (Barry) Reynolds of Hudson; three grandchildren; and brothers, William L. of Bradenton, Fla. and Buell of Kent. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel, where Masonic services will be held at 6:45 p.m. A private interment service will be held for the family followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Hudson. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Hudson.

Mary N. Brown
Mary N. Brown, 100, of Newton Falls, died Thursday at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Born December 24, 1897 in Austria-Hungary, she was the daughter of John and Rose Nemeth. Mrs. Brown and her husband owned Brown's Market in Newton Falls. She was the oldest member of the First Congregational Church of Newton Falls. She also enjoyed cooking. Survivors include her son, William F. of Carlisle, Mass.; daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Kistler of Newton Falls; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Stephen J., whom she married April 28, 1919, died April 2, 1987. Her sisters, Theresa Bodner, Elizabeth Wolf, Julia Kelemen and Helen Gothay, also died previously. Private services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church of Newton Falls where friends will also be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery. The family requests contributions be made to the First Congregational Church of Newton Falls. Arrangements made by Borowski Funeral Home, Newton Falls.

Anita Gontkovsky
Anita Gontkovsky, 80, of Warren, died Saturday in Warren St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Gontkovsky was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Niles and worked at Cicero's Delicatessen in Warren for 30 years. She was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Warren, where she was active in church groups. She was a Cleveland Indians fan for many years. Survivors include sons, James of Warren and Andrew of Brecksville; daughters, Anita of Ravenna and Colette of Warren; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Julie and Ada, both of Warren. Her husband, Andrew L. Gontkovsky, whom she married in 1943, died in 1965. Brothers Fred, Don and Pete, and sister Mary, also died previously. Services have been held. Burial was at All Soul's Cemetery in Warren. Memorials may be made to the Heritage Club of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Warren.

Hazel Agnes Lanari
Hazel Agnes Lanari, 85, of Tonkin Court, Kent, died Friday at Kent Quality Care Nursing Home. Born April 23, 1913 in Brimfield, she was the daughter of Matthew and Elsena Velora Ann (Harmon) Manes. Mrs. Lanari worked as a cook at many local restaurants. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Tony (Donna) Filomena of Kent; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sisters, Almina Mealey of Akron and Gladys Berkley of Beaumont, Texas. Brothers, Charles, Frank, Wilbert and Edgar, and sisters Gertrude VanTrump, Edith Manes and Venetta Hartley died previously. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Portage County Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 234 South Water Street, Kent.
