Louise B. Friedl, 86
Louise B. (Bach) Friedl, 86, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Longmeadow Care Center of Ravenna after a long illness. Born May 27, 1912 in Lorain, she was the daughter of John and Lucy (Victor) Bach. She was a life resident of Lorain before moving to Ravenna two and a half years ago. Mrs. Friedl retired in 1976 from Stanadyne Co. after 34 years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Lorain. She enjoyed knitting. Survivors include her daughter, Elaine O'Dor of Ravenna; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Helen Brown of Walnut, Calif., and Virginia Ekey of Parma. Her husband, Arnold, died in 1977. Three brothers, Julius, Frank and John Bach, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Dombrowski-Wohlever Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, where the St. Joseph Ladies Guild will hold a Rosary service at 4 p.m. Friday and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Thomas Shubert, 78
STOW - Thomas Shubert, 78, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 while vacationing in Port Charlotte, Fla. Born Sept. 22, 1920 in Curwensville, Pa., he was the son of Charles and Edith (Lockenotte) Shubert. He moved to Ohio in 1939. Mr. Shubert retired from Goodyear Aerospace Corp. in 1984 as director of business planning. He earned his bachelor's and masters degrees from Kent State University, where he taught from 1948 to 1950 and was a charter member of the Business Advisory Council. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of world War II, a member of the Naval Airship Association and a life member of the Naval Aviation Museum. He had been secretary-treasurer of the Goodyear Airship Old-Timers Club (35 years service) and served on the board of directors of the Wingfoot Lighter than Air Society. He was a member of Joppa Lodge No. 666, had served as vice-president for long range planning for the United Way and was a volunteer at Akron City Hospital for 10 years. He was a member of First Christian Church of Stow. He is survived by his wife, Oma; sons, Thomas A. of Kent and James of Green; daughters. Nancy Neill of Shaker Heights and Patricia Kovalcik of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and sister, Aileen Yaciw. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church of Stow. Burial will be in Stow Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Stow Building Fund.

Eleanor Bennett, 85
SHALERSVILLE - Eleanor M. (Furgerson) Bennett, 85, died Tuesday March 9, 1999, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born Dec. 31, 1913 in Freedom, she was the daughter of Walter and Florence E. (Wilke) Furgerson. A life resident Portage County, she moved to Ravenna in 1980. She graduated from Mantua Center School in 1932. Mrs. Bennett was a housekeeper and a practical nurse in private homes. Survivors include her daughters, Maxine Knight of Ravenna and Wesley (Barbara) Dodrill of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert of Ravenna; sister, Greta of Ravenna; and sister-in-law, Joan Furgerson of Alexandria, Va. Her brothers, Donald and Duane, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Robert Bowen officiating. Raymond L. Beyers, 77
BRIMFIELD - Raymond Lloyd Beyers, 77, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born June 20, 1921 in Fisher, Ill., he was the son of John and Pearl (Miller) Beyers. He was a longtime resident of Brimfield. Mr. Beyers retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron after 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 177th Engineers. Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Slabaugh) whom he married Aug. 9, 1942; son, David of Ravenna; daughters, Claudia (Gary) Bissler of Shalersville, Linda (Rickey) Foster of Brohman, Mich. and Patricia of Brimfield; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Leslie of Saltesse, Mont.; and sister, Maxine VanMeter of Franklin, W.Va. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mission Baptist Church in Stow, with the Rev. David Lanum officiating.

Morgan Cassandra Hasbrouck
Morgan Cassandra Hasbrouck, 17, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in North Carolina. Morgan was the daughter of Dr. Doug J. Hasbrouck of Hudson and Michelle J. Peele of Southern Pines, N.C. She was a senior at Pinecrest High School, where she was state secretary of the National Honor Society of North Carolina. In Hudson, she was an active participant in the Summit Sizzler 4-H Livestock Club, raising and showing steers and heifers. She was an active student in art and design and enjoyed horseback riding. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Doug and Mary Hasbrouck of Hudson; mother, Michelle Peele of Southern Pines, N.C.; sisters, Danielle and Heather Hasbrouck of Hudson, and MacKenzie Hasbrouck and Meredith Perdue of Southern Pines N.C.; grandparents, Doug and Helen Hasbrouck of Hudson and Ned and Carlotta Green of North Carolina A memorial service took place Monday in North Carolina. Walter Zadel, 69, of Ravenna, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Portage County Nursing Home. Services are pending at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Donald Evanoff
Donald M. Evanoff, Sr., 68, of Casa Grande, Ariz., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Casa Grande, Ariz. He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Cleveland. Mr. Evanoff was a housing authority manager and was chosen Outstanding Executive Director of 1992 by the Arizona Housing Authority Directors Association. He was a member of the city of Casa Grande Board of Adjustment, Desert Valley Care Center board, Police Association of Virginia, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Arizona County Sheriffs Association and a mediator for the Arizona Attorney General's Office. He liked helping people and was known for his ability to make people laugh with his jokes and stories. Survivors include his wife, Jackie; son, Donald Jr. of Duncan, Ariz; daughter, Kim Seigler of Casa Grande, Ariz.; one grandson; brothers, Eugene of Boise, Idaho, Fred of Casa Grande, Ariz. and Lawrence of Mountain Home; and sisters, Nadine of Calif., Valerie of Mountain Home, Ark. and Mary Ann of Orlando, Fla. No services were scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Humane Society. Cole & Maud Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ned Hertzog
Ned M. Hertzog, 59, of Hendersonville, N.C., a Windham native, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville, N.C., after a short illness. A former Windham resident, he was the son of Lester Allen and Marjorie (Leisenring) Hertzog. He had lived in Orange Park, Fla., before moving to North Carolina two years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1988, retiring as a senior master chief. Survivors include his wife, Louise of Hendersonville, N.C.; sons, Mark and Wayne Hertzog, both of Orange Park, Fla.; stepchildren, Keith Jones of Dublin, Va., Donna Glod of Jefferson County, W.Va., Trish Morgan of Beckley, W.Va. and Dreama Kuhlmann of Spokane, Wash.; eight stepgrandchildren; brothers, Ken of North Canton and Barry of Hudsonville, Mich.; and sisters, Evelyn Braun of Columbus, Jane Blewett of Houston, Texas and Karen Franklin of Pensacola, Fla. Delmas S. Baughman
WINDHAM TOWNSHIP - Delmas S. Baughman, 51, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at his home after a brief illness. Born Jan. 23, 1948 in Webster County, W.Va., he was the son of Stanley and Elida (Anderson) Baughman. Mr. Baughman was a laborer at Ohio Rubber since 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Cora (Cox), whom he married June 13, 1972; daughter, Carolyn Campbell of Windham; two grandchildren; and brother, Ricky of Bridgeport, W.Va. His son, Stanley, and his parents died previously. Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Golden Rule Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Kenneth Muster
Kenneth L. Muster, Sr., 86, of Kent, a former Atwater resident, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born April 22, 1912 in Shalersville, he was the son of Robert and Jenny (Dennis) Muster. Mr. Muster had worked as a superintendent at Hugo Sand for 43 years and after retirement, he volunteered with the American Red Cross and Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of The Atwater Methodist Church, the Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Deerfield American Legion. He had served with the United States Army 492nd Engineers Base Co. in the Pacific during World War II and had served on the Atwater School Board for 12 years. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rhea (Parkin); son, Kenneth L. Jr. (Marcia) of Hiram, daughter, Donna (Donald) Brassard of Englewood, Fla.; five granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Russell of Riverside, Calif. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Bowen officiating. PARIS - Carl V. Gilham, 71, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Dec. 17, 1927 in Flushing Township, Ohio, he was the son of Clyde and Goldie (Daily) Gilham. A former Ravenna resident, he had lived in Paris Township for five years. Mr. Gilham was a truck driver for Aurora Trucking until he retired. Survivors include his wife, Betty (McCauslin), to whom he was married 18 years; sons, Jeffrey (Karen) of Ravenna, and Douglas of Bloomdale, Ohio; daughters, Deborah (Garry) Pepper of Stow, Carla (Ric) Boulton of Stow, Jamie Patrick of North Baltimore, Ohio, and Dena (Ed) Wood of Newton Falls; stepsons, Doyle (Tish) Elkins of Ravenna, David Elkins of Ravenna, Charles Reedy of Middlefield, and Edward (Becky) Reedy of Ravenna; stepdaughter, Della (John) Kirtley of Deerfield; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Peg Gilham, Gerry Gilham, Idella Smith of Ravenna and Norma Rietz, all of Ravenna, and Eleanor Hughes of Lima. Alice Hall
ROOTSTOWN - Alice W. Hall, 92, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born March 5, 1907 in Amesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Herbert Smith and Lucy Andrews. She had lived in Portage County since 1942. At one time there were five generations of the Hall family. Mrs. Hall was a cafeteria worker for the Rootstown schools until she retired. She had worked at the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II. She was a member of Community Bible Church in Rootstown and the Rootstown Garden Club. Survivors include her son, Wendell C. Jr. of Florida; daughter, Helen J. Gilbert of Rootstown; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Dorothy Geary of Cambridge. Her husband, Wendell, died in 1983. A son, Charles F.; three brothers; and one sister, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Community Bible Church in Rootstown, with the Rev. Roy Kelsey officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. Dominic Romeo Jr.
Dominic Romeo Jr., 54, of Stow Street in Kent, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Sandusky. Born Aug. 30, 1944 in Ravenna, he was the son of Dominic and Eva (Amaru) Romeo. Mr. Romeo was a supervisor for Morgan Adhesive Co. in Stow. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his son, Michael of Kent; daughter, Lisa of Kent; father, Dominic of Warren; mother, Eva Rosian of Warren; brother, Anthony of Deerfield; and former wife, Ann Levitsky of Kent. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Earl Wertenberger, 85
Earl E. Wertenberger, 85, formerly of Brimfield and Ravenna, died Friday March 12, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Aug. 22, 1913 in Alliance, he was the son of Henry A. and Nettie (Marker) Wertenberger. He had lived in the Brimfield area since he was a young. Mr. Wertenberger was an electrician for Goodyear until he retired in 1972. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church. He had served as a Brimfield Trustee, was active in the National and Local Democratic Party, a member of the Brimfield Grange and also was in the Kelso House Commemorative Committee. Survivors include his nephews, Harold and Gaylord both of Skull Valley, Ariz., Lloyd of Texas, Jim Walsh of Newton Falls, John Walsh of Stow; nieces, Anita Fankhauser of Streetsboro, and Paula Grodecki of Hudson, Wis. His wife, Delores M. (Walsh) died previously in 1994. His brother, Carl H. and sister, Lois Krueger, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. John E. Stephens Sr., 52
HIRAM - John E. Stephens, Sr., 52, died Saturday March 13, 1999, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township after an apparent heart attack. Born Feb. 15, 1947 in Washington County, Pa., he was the son of Charles and Geraldine Stephens. He was a resident of Hiram the past 2 years, previously lived in Brecksville for one year, and also was a resident of Twinsburg for 20 years. Mr. Stephens was a supervisor at H and H Engineered Molded Products in Solon the past four years, and previously was a supervisor at R. and G. Sloan in Independence. He was a member of St. Cosmos and Damien Catholic Church in Twinsburg and also had attended St. Basil's Catholic Church in Brecksville. He was an avid computer programmer enthusiast and a Star Trek fan. Survivors include his wife, Denise (Wright); son, John E. Jr. (Tracie) of Kent; step-daughter, Heather Dragich of Hiram; two grandchildren; mother, Geraldine of Lone Pine, Pa.; brother, Buddy of Lone Pine; sisters, Betty Roberts of Lone Pine and Marty of Columbus. His first wife, Yvonne, died previously in 1992, and his father, Charles, died in 1991. Walter Graves, 43
WINDHAM - Walter C. Graves, 43, died Friday March 12, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born May 12, 1955 in Ravenna, he was the son of William and Donna J. (Wyers) Graves. He had lived in Windham for seven years and was a former resident of Ravenna. Mr. Graves was a core maker for A.C. Williams Co. in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl (Clark), whom he had been married to for 18 years; father, William of Canton; sons, Wally and Steven both at home, Edward Cole of Akron; daughters, Holly and Tiffany both at home; brother, Roger of Ravenna; sister, Linda of Ravenna; step-mother, Ardis of Canton; step-brother, Charles A. Ramsel of Minnesota, David Ramsel of Dover, Mark Ramsel of Canton; step-sisters, Eveline Maciag and Nel Ohler both of Canton. His mother, Donna, died previously. Joseph M. Gungle, 74
ATWATER - Joseph M. Gungle, 74, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at home after a long illness. He was the son of Joe and Barbara Gungle. Mr. Gungle worked for Firestone Rubber and Tire Co. in Akron and Coventry school district until he retired. Survivors include his wife, Carol (LaRose); son, Joseph (Patricia) of Barberton; daughter, Toni (Larry) Lawrence of Kent; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and father-in-law, Thomas LaRose. His brother, Herbert, died previously. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Bible Church in Atwater. Memorials may be made to the Portage County Hospice.

Carl Fiorentino Jr.
AURORA - Carl W. Fiorentino Jr., 23, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital in Solon of natural causes. Born July 21, 1975 in Warrensville Heights, he was the son of Carl W. and Sue (Stamper) Fiorentino. Formerly of Streetsboro, he had lived in Aurora for the last 13 years. Mr. Fiorentino was a forklift operator for the Reiter's Stop and Shop in Solon. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1993. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora. Survivors include his parents, of Aurora; brother, Joseph of Aurora; sister, Stephanie of Aurora; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Fiorentino of Streetsboro; grandmother, Helen Andenora of Aurora; and great-grandmother, Esther Stamper of Alabama. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Mildred Deel
Mildred Deel, 85, of Kent, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Feb. 8, 1914 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of George B. Lee and Eleanor B. Meerman. She lived in Kent for 11 years, and was formerly of Ravenna. Mrs. Deel was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Kent and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her son, Michael Deel of Kent; daughters, Virginia Lee of Cuyahoga Falls and Marilyn Carey of Bay Village; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Howard, died in 1987. Her sister, Virginia Davidson, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted, with the Rev. Steven Lashbrook officiating. Agnes Hach
AURORA - Agnes Hach, 92, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Hach dedicated her life to raising her family and assisting her husband, Emil, as the secretary of his construction firm and as a fishing partner. She was a member of The Church In Aurora. Survivors include her son, Emil C. (Barbara); eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lillian Objiemski. Her husband, Emil; daughter, Louise Porter; brothers, Joseph and Frank Busta; and sister, Marie Jirsa, all died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 tonight at Kindrich-McHugh-Steinbauer Funeral Home in Solon, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Kevin Horak officiating.
