Herman Huth Herman L. "Chub" Huth, 76, of Randolph, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at his home following a long illness. Born March 16, 1922 in Randolph, he was the son of Louis and Clara (Kissel) Huth. He had been a Randolph resident his entire life, Mr. Huth was a machine operator for Lampson Sessions in Kent from which he retired after 30 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Randolph and the "Pappy Breyer Club." He was a veteran of the Air Force during World War II and an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marie (Wirbel); sons, Bernard (Sherie) of Paris and Gerald (Cathy) of North Olmsted; daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Elaine) Yarolin of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Claude of Randolph; and a sister, Edith Engelhart of Randolph. His brothers, Sylvan, Harold and Freddie, and sisters, Helen and Marie, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Randolph, with the Rev. William Engelhart officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Randolph. The family requests memorials be made to the Portage County Muscular Dystrophy Organization, 3595 Work Road, Ravenna.

Theodore Klink Theodore T. (Ted) Klink, 81, of Streetsboro, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at his home. Born Jan. 17, 1917 in Scottsdale, Pa., he was the son of Samuel and Bridget (Anderson) Klink. He had lived in Streetsboro since the 1950s and was formerly of Pennsylvania. Mr. Klink retired as a machinist from the Erickson Tool Co. in Solon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mildred, whom he married December 7, 1942; son, Ronald of Streetsboro; and two grandsons. His daughter, Nancy K. Klink, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Thomas R. Shirer officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.

David Hunter David Lee Hunter, 62, formerly of Ravenna, died Friday, June 5, 1998 in Virginia. Born Jan. 17, 1936 in Ravenna, he was the son of Freeman and Mildred (Seeley) Hunter. A former Ravenna resident, Mr. Hunter was retired as a systems developer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his brother, Ronald of North Canton; and sister, Linda Snyder of Clinton. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Arlene Cozart Arlene L. Cozart, 80, of Suffield, died Monday, June 8, 1998 following an extended illness. Born June 17, 1917 in Smithville, W. Va., she was the daughter of Clem E. and Emma LaVerna Brewer. She and her husband had lived in Ohio since 1950. Survivors include her husband, C. Allen, whom she married June 21, 1942; son, Stephen (Aleta) of Suffield; daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Emily) Salvatore of Libertyville, Ill. and Mrs. Arthur (Michele) Fach of East Canton; and 10 grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the Thursday services at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. Pastor Jim Shuman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Peace Cemetery in Hartville.

Glenn Day FAIRHOPE, PA - Glenn M. Day, 67, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at Canemauh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pa. after a short illness. Born June 15, 1930 in Fairhope, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Hannah (Hutzell) Day. He had lived in Ravenna for several years until moving to Fairhope 25 years ago. Mr. Day had been a painter at Ametek in Kent. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1953; sons, Larry, Gary (Cindy) of and Donald, all of Fairhope; daughters, Judy (Edward) Kisciky of Shalersville; Vicki (Glen) Stemple of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; brother Jacob of Fairhope; sisters, Mary Baer of Fairhope, Martha Valarinos of New York City and Janet Twigg, Shirley Smith Helen Natcher, all of Ravenna. His sons, Glenn and Jerry, and several brothers and sisters all died previously. Calling hours were held Monday and will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Deaner Funeral Home in Berlin, Pa., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mt. Zine Cemetery in Fairhope, Pa.

Patrick Harjung Patrick Michael Harjung, of Brimfield, infant son of Peter and Patricia Finch-Harjung, was stillborn Saturday, June 6, 1998 at Akron City Hospital. Survivors include his parents; brother, Peter Finch-Harjung, at home; grandparents, Peter and Joanne Harjung of Ravenna and Sterling Finch of Ravenna. Grandparents Julia Finch, Ralph and Esther Finch, Ernest and Elma Alderman, Edward and Violet Andexler, and John and Anna Harjung, all died previously. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Edward Jakab Edward Paul Jakab, 45, of Paris, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at St. Joseph's Health Center in Warren. Born July 23, 1952 in Warren, he was the son of Paul S. and Gertrude (Imhoff) Jakab. Formerly of Newton Falls, he had lived in Paris since 1981. Mr. Jakab was a maintenance worker for Lake Milton State Park. He was a member of the North Park Avenue Baptist Church in Warren. He was an artist and enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline L. (Been), whom he married June 26, 1982; mother, Mrs. Gertrude Jakab of Newton Falls; and sisters, Mrs. Dale (Natalie) Clark of Charlestown, Mrs. George (Barbara) Myers of Newton Falls and Mrs. Michael (Judy) Laskovecs of Crownpoint, Ind. Calling hours will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at James Funeral Home, Newton Falls where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Paris.

Michael Sitko Michael "Mitch" Sitko, 81, of S.R. 59 in Kent, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Aug. 28, 1916 in Cleveland, he was the son of Charles and Valeris (Kwiecien) Sitko. Mr. Sitko worked at the Ravenna Arsenal from 1947 to 1956 and was a materials handler at Ford from 1956 to 1982. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving nine years as air traffic controller and Drill Sergeant in the India Burma and Central Burma campaigns, earning the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Service stars. He also tried out for the Cleveland Indians after high school and played during his time in the Army and for various area teams, including the Fageol team until 1950. He loved to read and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Geisinger); sons, Jere of San Francisco and Tom (Donna), Ed, Ronald and Chuck (Mary Kay), all of Kent; daughters, Cynthia of Santa Fe, N.M and Florence Sitko, Mrs. John (Michelle) Martin and Mrs. Dan (Pam) Ray, all of Kent; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Steve (Ruth) of Hiram; and sister Mrs. Doug (Charlotte) Hurd of Richfield. His brothers James, Edward and Stanley died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Robert Brooks officiating. Ola Mae Sannin Ola Mae Sannin, 70, of Newton Falls, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. Born June 6, 1928 in Canada, Ky., she was the daughter of Benjamin F. and Fannie C. (Smith) Chapman. She was a member of Community Free Will Baptist Church in Canal Fulton. Survivors include sons, Danny of Willowwood, Benjamin of Florida and Paul (Vicki) of Lake Milton; four grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Trula Hendrick of Massillon and Dixie Turner of Vero Beach, Fla. Her husband, Elmo Jr., whom she married May 4, 1946, died May 10, 1980. Her son Jimmy, four brothers and one sister also died previously. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to 11 a.m. Thursday services at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Vaughn Cemetery in Lake Milton.

Effie Marsh Effie I. Marsh, 81, formerly of Newton Falls, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at Glenview Manor Home in Mineral Ridge. Born January 8, 1917 in Upshur Co., W.Va., she was the daughter of William and Ida (Thompson) Harris. Formerly of Buchanan, W.Va., she moved to Newton Falls in 1943. Mrs. Marsh was a seamstress. She was a member of the First Church of God in Newton Falls and enjoyed gospel music and playing the piano. Survivors include her sons, Eddy of Warren and Larry of Southington; daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Barnhart of Newton Falls and Karen Thomas of Vienna; seven grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Marvin, whom she married on November 16, 1936, died June 28, 1992. Her sons Marvin and Donald, brothers Harvey, Charles and Floyd, and sisters Thankful and Cosby also died previously. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Pascal Norman Pascal J. (P.J.) Norman, 62, of Bartow, Fla., died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla. Born March 3, 1936 in Shock, W.Va., he was the son of Boyd and Ella Norman. Formerly of Spencer, W.Va., he moved to Bartow in 1987. Mr. Norman was a truck driver with Gray Trucking. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Damon of Gandeeville, W.Va.; stepsons, Robert Blosser of Taeys Valley, W.Va. and Charles Blosser of Lesage, W.Va.; daughters, Ramona Nichols of Iron Station, N.C., Andrea Turner of Charlotte, N.C., and Melinda Cantebury of Walton, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; brother, Stanley W. Norman of Ravenna; half-brother LaRon Conley of Southington; and sisters, Della Southward of Marion, Ohio and Neva Bill of Mount Gilead, Ohio. His brothers Orval, Denver and Haymond all died previously. Services are pending.

Joseph Porcase Joseph S. Porcase, 80, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, June 9, 1998. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., he lived in Ravenna before he moved to Florida in 1978. Mr. Porcase was a retired tire builder for Firestone Tire and Rubber in Akron, an Army veteran of World War II and an avid bowler. Survivors include his wife, Edith; sons, Daniel of Ravenna and Paul of Newton Falls; daughters, Candace Wyers of Ravenna and Jo-Ann Sabathe of Covington, La.; sisters, Ida Baker of Vero Beach, Fla., Marinina Thomas of Lombard, Ill., and Dolores Jarboe of Mansfield; brother, Anthony of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel, 406 S. Orange St., New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Thelma Phillips Thelma Marie Phillips, 81, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Ravenna Robinson Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 14, 1916 in Sistersville, W. Va., she was the daughter of Theodore Benjamin and Virginia Catherine Wright. She had lived in Ravenna all of her life. Phillips was a member of the First Christian Church of Ravenna. Survivors include her sons, Karl William Deffenbaugh of Walker, La., and Danny Lee Wright and Charles James Phillips, both of Ravenna; daughter, Sonia Renee Biles of Ravenna; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Clara Gaynal Brown of Somersdale, N.J. She was preceded in death by her sons, Dennis Lowell Dotts and Gary Lynn Dotts; grandson, Gayle Wright; brother, Gayle Victor Wright; and sister, Mary Virginia Barnes. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Russel Goldner.

Betty Miller DEERFIELD - Betty L. (Wagner) Miller, 69, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Oct. 27, 1928 in Ford City, Pa., she was the daughter of Merle and Clara Bell (Hilliard) Wagner. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, crafts and her dogs. She was a former member of the First Methodist Church of Leechburg, Pa. Survivors include her husband, Byron C., whom she married Feb. 24, 1949; son, Byron M. of Diamond; daughters, Mrs. Jerome (Clara Mae) Slovick of North Olmsted and Mrs. James (Bonnie) Cravener of Manor Township, Pa.; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and brother, Clarence B. Wagner of Ford City, Pa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Leechburg, Pa. with the Rev. Ronald Raptosh officiating. Burial will be in Spring Church Presbyterian Cemetery in Kiskimenitas Township, Pa.

John Nash AKRON - John Francis Nash, 70, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at Akron City Hospital after a long illness. Born June 7, 1928 in Hudson, Mass., he was the son of John M. and Edna (Fournier) Nash. He had been an Akron resident since 1984 after moving to Ohio in 1953. Mr. Nash earned a bachelor's degree in education from Boston College. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Nash had been the superintendent of the Southington Local Schools, principal of Spencer Elementary School in Geneva, director of International Placement Service in Cleveland, owner of the National Teachers Placement Bureau in Cleveland and head chef at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club in Madison. He retired in 1997 from Portage County Private Industrial Council in Ravenna. Survivors include his fiancee, Conney Kowatch of Akron; sons, Patrick D. of Kihei Maui, Hawaii and Timothy J. of Warren; daughter Alicia Jean Vogelaar of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; brothers, Patrick of Harwick, Mass., and James of Waunconda, Ill.; sisters, Edna Mae Maddocks of Hudson, Mass., Mary Crowell of Morton, Penn., Dorothy Cormier of Leominster, Mass. and Jane Philbin of Acton, Mass. Stephen Ulrich Stephen Edward "Stub" Ulrich, 77, of Palmyra, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born January 23, 1921, in Akron, he was the son of Carl and Anna (Kratheim) Ulrich. He lived in Louisville and Rootstown before moving to Palmyra 51 years ago. Mr. Ulrich was a truck driver for the Vale Edge and Chestnut Ridge Dairies, the Ravenna Arsenal, Stoney's Trucking in North Alliance, Kuntzman Trucking in Alliance, and Youngstown Cartage. He was also a salesman with the Fuller Brush Company. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Survivors include his wife, Margaret T. (Pamer); son, Edward of North Benton; daughters, Cynthia (David) Schneider of Edinburg and Mrs. Carter (Sylvia) Coss of Mich.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and brother, Harry of Ravenna. His brothers John, Carl, and Frank all died previously. Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Palmyra.

Camella Eyre SUFFIELD - Camella M. Eyre, 91, died Thursday, June 11, 1998. Born in West Union, W. Va., she was the daughter of David and Grace Smith. She had lived in the Suffield area for most of her life. She was a member of the Suffield United Church of Christ, the Suffield Garden Club, Grange and the Republican Club. Survivors include her son, Joseph (Patricia) of Cuyahoga Falls; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Her son Calvin, daughter Alice Adams, brothers, Martin and William J. Smith and sisters, Dessel Fender and Mary Winifred Smith, all died previously. Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Saturday services at the Suffield United Church of Christ, 1115 S.R. 43, with Pastor Earl F. Agnes Paugh CHARLESTOWN - Agnes Paugh, 86, died Thursday, June 11, 1998 at her home. Born June 12, 1911 in Davis W. Va., she had lived in Cleveland before moving to Charlestown 25 years ago. Mrs. Paugh was a cook for Shaw High School in E. Cleveland until she retired after 22 years. She also was a volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Survivors include her sons, James H. (Evelyn) of Mentor and Richard E. (Nina) of Frankfort, N.Y.; daughters, Mrs. John (Dorcas) Moviel of Sebring, Fla. and Mrs. Fred (Shirley) Jayne of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Henry W., died October 15, 1982. Her grandson, James Jayne, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m.. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Jeanette Rosier WINDHAM - Jeanette Rosier, 59, died Thursday, June 11, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness. Born February 7, 1939 in Somerset, Pa., she was the daughter of James and Bernice (Lear) Pugh. Formerly of Pennsylvania, she had lived in the area for 27 years. Mrs. Rosier was an inspector for EverReady in Garrettsville until she retired in 1996 after 27 years. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna and enjoyed gardening, crafts, baking and spending time with her family. Survivors include her sons, Gerald "Buck" Miller and Jack Miller, both of Nelson; daughters, Brenda Samples of Nelson, Lisa Cook and Tracey Finney, both of Windham, Nancy Salas of Ravenna, and Judith "Judy" Smith of Garrettsville; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Bernice (Lear) Pugh of Somerset, Pa.; brothers, James of Listie, Pa., and Donald Sr., William, Wayne and Roger Sr., all of Somerset, Pa.; and sisters, Connie Hileman of Somerset, Pa. and Linda Manges of Hooverville, Pa. Her father, James and brother, LaVan, died previously. Kenneth G. Greek Kenneth G. Greek, 73, of Ravenna, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. He had been ill with cancer. Born June 3, 1925 in Alliance, he was the son of Clarence Earl and Louella (Hawkins) Greek. He was a Ravenna resident for 18 years. Mr. Greek was a driver for Acme Delivery until he retired in 1985. Survivors include his sons, Tony Alessi of Garrettsville and Carl Alessi of Ravenna; and one grandchild. His wife, Christine V. (Passalacqua) Alessi, whom he married Dec. 26, 1963, died Jan. 11, 1995. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Michael Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

William Hinkle William "Buck" Hinkle, 80, of 3898 N. Park Extension, Warren, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center Eastland in Warren after a brief illness. Born July 11, 1917 in Richwood, W. Va., he was the son of Samuel and Margaret (Williams) Hinkle. He had been an area resident since 1973. Mr. Hinkle retired from Copperweld Steel Corp., where he worked as an inspector for 29 years. He also was a retired pastor who ministered at Yale Baptist Church in Deerfield. He did evangelical work in his early years. He was a member of the Leavittsburg Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He enjoyed camping, reading the Bible and church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Beulah (Green), whom he married June 20, 1951; sons, Rick of Newton Falls, Dan of Champion and Tim of Southington; daughters, Jane Reid of Kent and Mrs. Gerald (Kathy) Rattai of Kent; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Given of Richwood. Four brothers and three sisters died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leavittsburg Baptist Church, where the body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Champion. Memorials may be made to the Leavittsburg Baptist Church.
