Kathy J. Morar Kathy J. Morar, 43, of 18916 Center St., North Benton, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at her home of complications from diabetes. Born July 23, 1956, in Warren, she was the daughter of Daniel A. and Frances (Gordon) Morar. She had lived in Braceville before moving to North Benton 10 years ago. She graduated from LaBrae High School in Leavittsburg in 1974. She formerly was a bookkeeper and salesperson with Delmont Auto Sales in Berlin Center. She also had helped cater at Melody Lane Ballroom in Newton Falls. She was a member of the Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Warren, the Mahoning Farm Bureau Association and the Trumbull County Guernsey Club. She enjoyed square dancing, embroidery, sewing and showing cattle. Survivors include her daughter, Amanda "Mandy", at hone; parents, Daniel and Frances Morar of North Benton; and brothers, Daniel A. Jr. and Albert G., both of Braceville. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road, NE, Warren, where saracusta service will be held at 6 p.m., and from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Warren. Miriam Krause, 75 Miriam Krause, 75, of Troy Township, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at home. Arrangements will be announced by Green's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Mantua.

Mildred J. Zimmerman Mildred J. Zimmerman, 78, of Coshocton, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Coshocton Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 26, 1921, in Fresno, Calif., she was the daughter of Jacob and Ethel (Hart) Zimmerman. A graduate of Coshocton High School, she received a bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock University (formerly Slippery Rock State College) in 1952. She performed graduate work at Ohio, Kent and Michigan state universities and the universities of Pittsburgh and Akron. Ms. Zimmerman taught students with learning disabilities at Coshocton City Schools. She also taught in Newark, Warren and Pittsburgh, Pa. She had worked as a supervisor of student teachers at Slippery Rock Laboratory School and as assistant professor of education at KSU. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a board member of the YMCA, and a charter member of Trirosis, Friends of the Library. In 1965, she was listed in Who's Who in American Education. She also was listed in the first edition of Who's Who in Child Development. She was a member of the first Girl Scout troop organized in Coshocton. Survivors include her sister, Norma G. Brown of Coshocton; niece, Barbara Platt of Collierville, Tenn.; nephew, Philip H. Brown of Coshocton; and six great-nieces. Her stepfather, Lorin Elliot; one brother; and nephew, James H. Brown, all died previously. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Given-Dawson Coshocton Funeral Home, 186 Park Ave., Coshocton, Ohio, 43812, and one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Monday at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church's Custer Chapel, with the Rev. Charles "Glenn" Weaver SUFFIELD - Charles "Glenn" Weaver, 54, died Thursday, March 2, 2000. Born in Salem, he was the son of Charles and Mary Weaver. He had lived in the Akron area most of his life. Mr. Weaver was employed by Ameritech for 30 years and retired in 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and former league director of the Akron Area Christian Sports Association. He was a member of Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Survivors include his wife, Sherrie L.; daughters, Heather L. (Scott) Riffle of Cuyahoga Falls and Trisha A. Weaver of Suffield; brothers, Thomas and Kenneth; and sisters, Margaret Flint, Avon Graham, Faye Starkey, Carol Houchen, Mary Nuzum and Martha Schaal. Henry Richard Black Henry Richard Black, 76, of Woodsfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at Barnesville Hospital. Born April 16, 1923, in Lumpkin County, Ga., he was the son of James D. and Hattie (Head) Black. Mr. Black was a retired machinist with Gougler Industries of Kent. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 169 and a member of Coopers Creek Baptist Church of Coopers Creek, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Clara (Long) Black; sons, Jim of Rootstown, Allen of Brimfield and Terry of Highland Heights; daughter, Connie Elrod of Kent; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sister, Eileen Tanner of Blairesville, Ga. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home in Barnesville where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Military graveside services will be provided by the Monroe and Belmont County Veterans Councils at Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield.

Alma M. Sturgill Alma M. Sturgill, 55, of Ravenna, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Aug. 7, 1944, in Springfield, Ill., she was the daughter of Elvira Wilson. Formerly of Canton, she had lived in Ravenna the past 18 years. Ms. Sturgill was a homemaker. She attended the Ravenna Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters, Kim Moles of Massillon, Paula Moles of Canal Fulton and Ann Sturgill of Ravenna; four grandchildren; brothers, Fred Accord of Florida, Lawrence Accord of Colorado, Tom Accord of Ravenna, Bob Accord of Urichsville and Jack Accord of Florida; and sisters, Mary McKibben of Ravenna and Ann Livingston of Nashville. Her son, Haskell Feltner, and brother, Bill Accord, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. There will be no services and cremation will take place.

Anna George Anna M. George, 87, of Ravenna, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born May 23, 1912, in Warwood, W.Va., she was the daughter of Adam and Anna (Auth) Stenger. She had lived in Ravenna from 1948 to 1962, and in Edinburg from 1962 until 1979, when she returned to Ravenna. Mrs. George had been a public health nurse in New Martinsville, W.Va., and worked as a private duty registered nurse in Ohio until she retired in 1977 after 44 years of service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, The Infant of Prague Guild, Catholic Nurses, Edinburg Senior Citizens, and the Young at Heart Club of Ravenna. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Pantalone of Ravenna and Mrs. Harold (Patricia) Reed of Kent; son, Edward (Billie) George of Rock Hill, S.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Paul (Matilda) Bott of Elm Grove, W.Va. and Margaret Pfalzgraf of North Canton. Her husband, Earle, died in 1991. Her brothers, Edward, Louis, Adam and Joseph Stenger; and sister, Loretta Denning, also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Zella Cottrill Zella Cottrill, 66, of Shock, W.Va., the mother and sister of several area residents, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Charlestown Area Medical Center, General Division. Born in Clay County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Myrtle (Tanner) Dickey. Mrs. Cottrill was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith for 35 years. Survivors include her husband, Glenn; sons, Craig of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Ronald of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter, Crystal Adamson of Windham; brothers, Joe Dickey of Newton Falls, Dalton Dickey of Southington, and Gary Dickey of Warren; sisters, Pauline Norman and Garnet Wagner, both of Garrettsville, Helen Tucker of Fairmont, W.Va., and Maureen Davies of Woodbine, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Nebo Baptist Church in Nebo, Clay County, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Robert Hagedorn, 68 Robert L. Hagedorn, 68, of Kent, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville after a long illness. Born March 13, 1932 in Deuslow, W.Va., he was the son of Lee and Sadie (Nuce) Hagedorn. He had been a resident of Kent since 1975. Mr. Hagedorn was a self-employed truck driver for the past 15 years. He also worked at the T.G. Data Center in Garrettsville for several years. He graduated from Morgantown Business College in Morgantown, W.Va. and attended West Virginia University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was an antique car collector and enjoyed playing the fiddle and guitar, as well as calling square dances. Survivors include his wife, Willow; father, Lee "Dobe" of Mantua; brother, Gerald (Lois) of Akron; and sisters, Myrtle (Roy) Mayfield of Mantua and Freda (Dock) Kilpatrick of Akron. His mother died in 1989. No calling hours will be held. Graveside services will be held at noon Friday at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township, with the Rev. Roger Mize officiating, with military honors by Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Mantua.

William Criblez, 77 FREEDOM - William "Bill" Criblez, 77, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at home after a long illness. Born Aug. 15, 1922 in Cuyahoga Falls, he was the son of Carl and Dorothy Criblez. He was a longtime area resident. Mr. Criblez was a machinist at BF Goodrich. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his sons, William of Mantua and Norman of Freedom; daughters, Susan Cermak of Hiram and Deborah Slaughter of Red Oak, Texas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Vera Hopkins of Kinsman; and stepbrother, Norm Paterson. His wife, Marie (Auth), whom he married July 25, 1954, died Dec. 28, 1999. Two grandchildren also died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom.

David Echelberry, 76 David L. Echelberry, 76, of 329 Elizabeth St., Newton Falls, died of cancer Monday, April 3, 2000 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born Oct. 20, 1923, in Kent, he was the son of John and Ella (Looker) Echelberry. A 1941 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, he had lived in Newton Falls for 54 years. Mr. Echelberry worked at Lordstown Ordnance Depot and was a truck driver at Rockwell International in Newton Falls for 28 years until the company closed. He also worked for Central Security as a security officer in many area banks. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the U.S.S. Iowa as a bugler, and a member of the Ohio National Guard. He retired from the 910/757 Air DW at the Youngstown Air Base. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kent American Legion, U.S.S. Iowa Association, American 910th/757th Veterans Association, the Battleship Organization, and a life member of National Chief Petty Officer's Organization. He enjoyed attending his ship's reunions, never missing one in 15 years. He enjoyed band music, playing drums and traveling to Las Vegas. He was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 69 in Newton Falls. Survivors include his wife, Jean (Davis), whom he married June 16, 1946; son, Ron Echelberry of Mantua; daughter, Mrs. Vicki (Donald) Young of Newton Falls; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ellen (Frank) Buell of Mantua. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Gilbert Chipman, 76 Gilbert C. Chipman, 76, of 238 Woodland St., Newton Falls, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 23, 1923, in Framingham, Mass., he was the son of Henry and Elsie (Cox) Chipman. Mr. Chipman retired from the U.S. Navy in 1963 as a YN1 (E-6) after 30 years of service. He earned the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation Badge and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He was a member of Newton Falls American Legion Post 236 and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a graduate of the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve and Boston Conservatory of Music. He was a member of First Church of God in Newton Falls. Survivors include Irene E. Chipman of Newton Falls; daughters, Gloria Jean (James) Fahey of Waltham, Mass. and Brenda of Natick, Mass.; stepsons, Timothy Baugher of Warren and Leo Baugher of Champion; stepdaughters, LeeAnn (Charles) Motz and Cynthia Mayer, both of Southington, and Pauline Zircle of Salem; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest of California; and sister, Evelyn Brown of Tacoma, Wash. His wife, Barbara A. (Griffin), died Feb. 8, 1991. A brother, Bernard, and sister, Alice Banks, also died previously. Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Friday at James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St. in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Charles Feater Jr., 71 BRIMFIELD - Charles W. Feaster Jr., 71, of Saxe Road, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 17, 1928, in North Industry, he was the son of Charles W. and Blanche (Whitmer) Feaster. Mr. Feaster was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a sergeant in a heavy artillery division. He was a journeyman electrician at IBEW Local 306 in Akron. He also was a member of the Rocton Lodge 316 and the Scottish Right-Valley of Canton. He had been a resident of Brimfield since 1961. Survivors include his wife, Norma (Mackley); son, Charles Lee "Skeeter" of Brimfield; and sister, Dorothy (Leo) Burris of Cambridge. Two daughters and sister, Ella Mae Schick died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent where Masonic services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Center Cemetery in Cambridge with the Rev. Geraldine Burchett officiating. Annie Zabrucki, 84 Annie Zabrucki, 84, of South Willow Extension, Kent, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born June 24, 1915, in Hollsopple, Pa., she was the daughter of Nick and Barbara (Benczi) Kovack. Mrs. Zabrucki was a retired custodian from Kent State University. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent and enjoyed gardening and quilting. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Mark) Strickler of Kent; two grandchildren; and brother Paul Kovack of Maple Park, Pa. Her husband Charles died in 1983; brothers, John in 1943, Nick Jr. in 1925 and Joseph in 1990; and sisters, Mary Kovack in 1982 and Elizabeth Tassone in 1975. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Creston McCumbers, 79 STOW - Creston J. McCumbers, 79, died Saturday, April 22, 2000. Born March 10, 1929, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Perry and Abbie McCumbers. Mr. McCumbers was retired from Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton after 36 years of service. He was a resident of the Stow area since 1950. Survivors include his son Creston "Pete" (Denise) of Akron; daughters, Glennis (Ron) Braddom of Stow, Libby (Al) Walker of Cuyahoga Falls, Abbie (Tom) Dray of Charlestown Township and Kathy (Ken) Lambach of Munroe Falls; and eight grandchildren. His wife Murlene and granddaughter Sarah died previously. Marvin S. Canupp Marvin S. Canupp, 56, the husband of former Kent resident Sandra Troyer Canupp, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his home in Wantagh, Long Island, N.Y. He was born Oct. 18, 1943, in Springfield. Mr. Canupp was a U.S. Department of Defense civilian employee, working for the U. S. Navy in East Meadow, N. Y. He served 20 years in the U. S. Air Force, retiring on Sept. 1, 1983. During his career he served in England, Crete, the Philippines, Italy and then back to England. He attended The Ohio State University and then earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland and a master's degree from Troy State University. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Beadlow Manor Golf Club in Bedfordshire, England; the Bedford County Past Captain's Golf Society and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Troyer Canupp of Wantagh, N.Y.; daughter, Teri M. Katz; son, Scott A. (Lisa); grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Katz, all of Cuyahoga Falls, and father-in-law, Loris Troyer and his wife, Laura of Kent. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, with the Rev. Steven Lashbrook officiating. The service will include a military honor guard and bagpiper Harry Bowman. Memorials may be made to the Portage County Unit of the American Cancer Society, 1900 W. Charles C. Diehl EDINBURG - Charles C. Diehl, 79, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at his home. Born Nov. 30, 1920 in Berlin Center, he was the son of Harry L. and Edith M. (Fouck) Diehl. He grew up in Ellsworth and had lived in Edinburg since 1953. Mr. Diehl worked for Kaplan Trucking for 28 years until retiring, and also drove a bus for the Southeast School System for 10 years. He was involved with draft horses and farming all of his life. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Normandy campaign. He earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of Deerfield American Legion Post 713. Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. (Kean), whom he married Aug. 4, 1945; sons, Clifford of Louisville, Christopher of Edinburg, Woodrow of Ashland; daughter, Patricia of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Callahan of Alliance. His infant brother, Kenneth, died previously. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. April 16 at Edinburg Cemetery, where Deerfield American Legion Post No. 713 will offer military honors. Arrangements were made by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Robert W. Troyer Sr. GARRETTSVILLE - Robert W. Troyer Sr., 77, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Feb. 13, 1923 in Stow, he was the son of Walter and Alta (Mowl) Troyer. He had been a resident of the Garrettsville and Hiram areas since 1930. He was a 1941 graduate of Hiram High School, where he was active in sports. Mr. Troyer worked on the Troyer family farm in Hiram Township, which was started by his father, for many years and later was employed at the Pontiac and Buick automotive dealerships in Garrettsville for many years. He was a member of Hiram Christian Church. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Doris (Swann), whom he married Feb. 1, 1945; sons, Robert W. Jr. of Garrettsville and Terry R. of Houston, Texas; daughter, Gail E. Hovey of Garrettsville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelynne Spencer of Hiram. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Green's Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Mantua, where services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Robert Bowen of Hiram Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville. Memorials may be made to Community Ambulance of Garrettsville.

Barbara May Wass EDINBURG - Barbara May Wass, 65, died Thursday, April 6, 2000 at his home. Born March 3, 1935, in McKeesport, Pa., she was the daughter of Steven J. and Mary (Gulbine) Toth. Mrs. Wass worked as a cook in the Southeast School District. She was a member of Edinburg United Church, Edinburg Homemakers Club, Atwater Quilt Club and Good Sam Camping Club. Survivors include her husband, Jennings "Frank" Wass; five children; and 10 grandchildren. Private graveside services were held for the family and burial is in Edinburg Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna chapel. Memorials may be made to Edinburg United Church Memorial Fund.
