Timothy W. Stevens, 40, of Newton Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000. Born Jan. 12, 1960 in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was the son of Walter H. and Genevieve (Patrick) Stevens. He had lived in Lake Milton before moving to Newton Township five years ago. Mr. Stevens drove a truck for Corney McNickels for six years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife, Teresa, of McDonow, Ga.; sons, James Latea of Newton Falls and Paul and Timothy of St. Cloud, Fla.; daughters, Halie and Genevieve of McDonow, Ga., and Natasha of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; four grandchildren; parents, Genevieve and Walter of Newton Falls; brothers, Rodney Trader of Hollywood, Fla., Eric Stevens of Pennsylvania, Walter Stevens of Newton Falls and Charles Trader of Columbus; and sisters, Shelea Krause and Mrs. Berman (Marcell) Gore, both of Newton Falls. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. Lawrence A. Lingo
Lawrence A. Lingo, 57, of Newton Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown. Born Jan. 29, 1943, in Warren, he was the son of Lawrence W. Lingo and LaVera Hammond. He lived in Newton Falls most of his life. Mr. Lingo owned the accounting firm LA Lingo & Co., which he established in 1974. He was Newton Falls Township Clerk from 1976-1992. Survivors include wife of 36 years Kay F. Lingo; son Michael of Eliot, Mass.; daughter Jennifer of Cortland; granddaughter Sarah of Eliot, Mass.; sister Mrs. Robert (Linda) Dugic. Son Patrick and brother David died previously. Calling hours will be held today from 6-9 p.m. at James Funeral Home, Newton Falls. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, 10 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Viola M. Payne
Viola M. Payne, 84, of Bath Township, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Akron General Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Greens Funeral Home in Mantua.

Herbert A. Jesse
AURORA - Herbert Adolph Jesse, 80, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000 at Longmeadow Nursing Home in Ravenna. Born March 14, 1920, he had been an Aurora resident since 1958. Mr. Jesse was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Survivors include his sons, Thomas and Mark, both of Ravenna; daughter, Laura Culbertson of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. His wife, Mary Ella, and daughter, Linda, died previously. Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at Hope Lutheran Church, 456 S. Chillicothe Road, Aurora. Arrangements were made by F.J. Corrigan Funeral Services in Orange Village. Francis G. DePetro
STREETSBORO - Francis G. DePetro, 60, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at his home of natural causes. Born Aug. 20, 1940, in Barnsboro, Pa., he was the son of Frank and Genevieve (Lydic) DePetro. A former Solon resident, he had lived in Streetsboro since 1976. Mr. DePetro was a retired maintenance technician for Nestle Co. in Solon. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro. Survivors include his wife, Janet (Rice), to whom he was married 28 years; son, Francis of Streetsboro; daughters, Anjanette and Danette of Streetsboro; one grandchild; brothers, William of Chesterland; Anthony and Timothy, both of Pennsylvania, and Terry of Virginia; and sisters, Roxie Pagano of Maryland and Patricia Farabaugh of Illinois. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro, with Msgr. Mary G. Conti
STOW - Mary G. Conti, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000. Born Feb. 1, 1910 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Frank and Coletta (Dovi) Seminerio. A Stow resident for 20 years, she formerly lived in the North Hill area of Akron and Kent. Mrs. Conti was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Co. until she retired in 1975. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow. Survivors include her sons, Larry (Kathy) and Thomas (Mary Elizabeth), both of Stow; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen (Larry) Palmarini of Stow. Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Stow. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Memorials may be made to Holy Family School in Stow.

George H. Wear
George H. Wear, 84, who served a term as mayor of Mogadore in the 1980s, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Hospice Care Center in Copley. Born June 30, 1916, in Prairie Home, Mo., he was the son of George and Eva Wear. Mr. Wear was a research chemist in Missouri and Panama before moving to Mogadore, where he worked in the Research and Development Division of General Tire. After retiring from General Tire and the U.S. Army Reserves, he served a two-year term as mayor of Mogadore and was an ombudsman for the Area Agency on Aging for five years. He enjoyed his farm during his retirement. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he earned two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in chemistry. Survivors include his wife, Frances, to whom he was married for 54 years; son, Sam (Daryl Burbank); daughters, Tracye (David Brown), Delese (Steve Broderick) and Rachel (Conor Mangat); and five grandchildren. His brothers, Norris and Roy; and sisters, Mary Foutz and Frances Hall, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore. Private burial services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date, with the Rev. John Schluep officiating. Henry Arland Wright
SHALERSVILLE - Henry Arland Wright, 98, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at his home. Born Jan. 25, 1902 in Shalersville, he was the son of Albert and Regina (Bauer) Wright. He was a life resident of Shalersville. Mr. Wright was a pony express driver for the Portage County Engineer's Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation District No. 4 in Ravenna. He was a member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Shalersville. Survivors include his sons, Earl (Pat) of Ravenna, Lynn (Sharon) of Shalersville and Lee of Idaho; daughter, Helen (Don) Jackson of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His wife, Gladys, died in 1981. His sisters, Lucille Wissman and Alica Athans,died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Shalersville, with the Rev. Robert Ludwig officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Shalersville. Irene May Bradley
Irene May Bradley, 80, of S.R. 44, Ravenna, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Dec. 14, 1919, in Willoughby, she was the daughter of Roy and Hazel (Twaine) Lette. She and her husband also kept a summer home in Edgewater, Fla. for the past 17 years. Mrs. Bradley worked in housekeeping at Kent State University for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses. Survivors include her husband, George, to whom she was married 41 years; sons, Robert Parks Jr. of California and James (Judy) Bradley of Hudson; daughters, Hazel Jean Wood and Yvonne Bootz, both of Willoughby, and Vicki (John) Osborne of Kent; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Winchell of Eastlake. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with the Rev. Bruce Chouinard officiating. Memorials can be made to charity.

Frances Clapp Arnold
GARRETTSVILLE - Frances Clapp Arnold, 98, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Glen View Manor in Mineral Ridge. Born March 12, 1902, in Orwell, she was the daughter of Coran and Nina (Salway) Cannon. She was reared and lived most of her life in Garrettsville. Mrs. Arnold was an accounting secretary. A well-known seamstress and quilter, one of her quilts is on display at the Garfield Historical Society. She was a member of Hiram Christian Church and LMC. Survivors include her daughters, Anita Polochock of Warren and Shirley Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons, Max Arnold of Cleveland, David Arnold of North Carolina and Phillip Arnold of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Harry A. Clapp, whom she married June 14, 1924, died April 7, 1972. Her second husband, Rex Arnold, whom she married May 29, 1984, died March 28, 1990. A daughter, Evelyn Fellows; stepdaughter, Bertha Arnold; five brothers and two sisters died previously. Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville. Memorials may be made to charity.

Edith M. Wagner
DEERFIELD - Edith M. Wagner, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Altercare of Alliance. Born April 9, 1910 in Somerset County, Pa., she was the daughter of Dennis and Bessie (Berkebile) Wagner. Miss Wagner was retired from the former Kresky Co. in Alliance. Survivors include her brother, Robert of Streetsboro; sisters, Annie Diehl of Deerfield and Ruth McCready of Berea; seven nephews and nieces; and 11 great-nephews and great-nieces. A brother, Amzy, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance. Arrangements are being handled by Myers-Israel Funeral Home in Alliance.

John "Jack" Curry
John "Jack" Curry, 69, of Yardley, Pa., the father of Patricia Abramowicz of Streetsboro, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa. Born in Bethlehem, Pa., he was the son of John and Eva Curry. He had lived in Yardley for more than 30 years. Mr. Curry earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Parks College of Aeronautical Technology of St. Louis University. He worked as an aeronautical space engineer for the Curtis Wright Corp. and retired in 1988 from the Naval Air Propulsion Center in West Trenton, NJ. After his retirement, he was a consultant for Allison Gas Turbine in Indiana and was working part-time at Faulkner Pontiac Buick GMC in Trevose, Pa. Mr. Curry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Knowles-Doyle Post 317 in Yardley, the B.P.O.E. Fairless Lodge No. 2023 and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 11013. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Parish in Yardley. He enjoyed boating, hunting and collecting model airplanes. Survivors include his wife, Joan (Dietrich); son, Timothy J. (Joy) of Owensburg, Ind.; daughters, Patricia L. (Mark) Abramowicz of Streetsboro and Jill (James) Shurtleff Jr. of Jamison, Pa.; eight grandchildren; sisters, Marie Trimble of Bethlehem, Pa. and Rosemary Halpin of Beach Haven, NJ.; and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Dorothy Lindenmuth and Frances Curry, died previously. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. at St. Ignatius Church in Yardley. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Fitzgerald-Sommer Funeral Home in Yardley. Memorials can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Helen Barthol Hansen
Services will be held tonight for Helen Barthol Hansen, 71, of Alliance, who died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Akron General Medical Center. Born Feb. 24, 1929 in Atwater, she was the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Hilker) Barthol. She had lived in Atwater and Ravenna before moving to Alliance six years ago. Mrs. Hansen retired from the General Electric Lamp Plant in Ravenna, where she was a machine adjuster. She was a member of Atwater Congregational Church, Alliance Senior Citizens and the Atwater Historical Society. Survivors include her son, Dan J. of Tennessee; daughter, Janie (Robert) Locke of Hudson; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Doris Miller of North Canton. Calling hours will be held from 6 p.m. until services at 8 tonight at Atwater Congregational Church. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel.

Viola M. Payne
Viola M. Payne, 84, of Bath Township, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Akron General Medical Center. Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Cowen, W. Va., she was the daughter of Howard and Florence Miller. She had lived in Elkins, W. Va., before living in Cleveland for 37 years. She moved to the Akron and Bath area in 1997. Mrs. Payne was a homemaker. She also worked at Wash and Dry Laundry of Cleveland from 1970-78 and operated laundromats until her retirement. She enjoyed collecting miniature horses. Survivors include her sons, Lonzo (Shirley) of Fitzgerald, Ga., Dennis (Martha) of Boalare, W.Va. and Loyd Meeks of Bath Township; daughter, Bethel Covel of Pennsylvania.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Miller of Ariz.; and sister, Goldie Miller of W.Va. Her husband, Virgil, died in 1942. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township.

Caroline Collige Warren
STOW - Caroline Collige Warren, 98, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Stow-Glen Retirement Center. Born Jan. 14, 1902 in Midway, Pa. She was a former Kent resident. Mrs. Warren was employed at Kent State University in the printing service department for 19 years until she retired in 1972. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, an emeritus professor of physics at KSU; daughter, Suzanne (Robert C.) Frutchey of Barberton; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Michigan. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Jaqueline V. Zepp
Jaqueline V. Zepp, 67, of South Euclid, a former Aurora resident, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000. Born July 6, 1933, in Uniontown, Pa., she was the daughter of Clyde and Mary Edna (Collier) Hager. She had lived in the Cleveland area most of her life, moving to Aurora from Cleveland Heights in 1974. She lived in Aurora for 22 years before moving to South Euclid. Mrs. Zepp worked as a hairdresser and cosmetologist at Eastern Star Nursing Home and Council Gardens Retirement Home. Survivors include her sons Alan J. (Patti) of Aurora, Jeffrey (Marci) of Ravenna, Jonathan of Freedom; daughters Judith L. (Kimbal) Fatica of Wickliffe and Arlene (Robert) Neutz of Wilmington, Del.; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Karl and Donald Hager; sisters, Marguerite Davis, Jean Kopf, Gladys Livingston, Geraldine Nichols; and husband, James. Her brothers, Edwin and Wendell, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. until services at 8 p.m. Thursday at Kindrich-McHugh-Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road, Solon. James C. Case
James C. Case, 78, of Ravenna died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000. He was born Oct. 2, 1921 in War, W. Va. Mr. Case worked with Miller & Son Concrete Manufacturing until he retired. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Laura, whom he was married to for 57 years; sons, James L. (Rosalie), George S. (Pam) and Anthony C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Margie Edmonds. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Marie C. Simukka
Marie C. Simukka, 94, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2000. Born Sept. 9, 1905, in Strasburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mary A. and Logan Machan. She was reared in Strasburg and later lived in Euclid and Chicago before coming to Ravenna with her husband, Dr. William Simukka, a well-known optometrist. Mrs. Simukka was an executive secretary for several firms and became her husband's office manager.' She was a member of the First Congregational Church, and also was active in several civic organizations, including the Elks Club Women's Auxiliary and Sorosis. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. William Simukka and by two sisters and six brothers. Friends may call from 11 a.m. Monday at until services at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Newcomer-Farmley Funeral Home.

Woodrow "Woody" Lovett III
WINDHAM - Woodrow "Woody" Lovett III, 38, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at the Cleveland Clinic of cancer. Born Nov. 24, 1961, in East Liverpool, he was the son of Woodrow "Woody" Lovett Jr. and Lillian "Louise" (Cronin) Lovett. Mr. Lovett was a lifelong resident of Windham. He was a press operator at Harbison Walker in Windham, and was a member of USW Local No. 8565. He was active in the Windham Hot Stove League. Survivors include his wife, Linda (Doolittle) Lovett of Windham, whom he married June 30, 1980; sons, Woodrow "Woody" IV and Jeffrey, at home; his parents of Arcadia Fla.; paternal grandmother, Opal Smith of Salineville, Ohio; an uncle, Michael Cronin of Chardon; sisters, Sondra "Elizabeth" Taylor of Marion, Ohio, and Lynnette Lovett of Arcadia, Fla. A sister, Michaelene Lovett, died previously. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. Sunday until funeral services at 3 p.m. at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville (www.legacy.com), with the Rev. Karen Anderson officiating.
